R4 that series really sucks

With older shows, I do tend to prefer later seasons after they have actually gotten the rhythm going. For instance I prefer the syndicated Mama's Family to the NBC episodes. The early episodes of Golden Girls were very issue driven, I liked it better when they threw all that out of the window.

R6 I like all of Mana’s Family

The Avengers didn't get really gel until the third season (series, in UK terminology), once they had the character of Cathy Gale nailed down and ditched the other two occasional sidekicks

Sopranos: I did not like Seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 was when it started being good.
Seinfeld: First season, at least, was bad. George Costanza thought he was Woody Allen. Kramer thought he was the guy on Taxi.

The first season of the Facts of Life sucked.

R10 Seasons 2-6 were my faves

The Golden Girls
Roseanne (well, seasons 4-7)

Strangely enough I felt Dynasty was better from 1985 onwards. I especially enjoyed 1987 and 1988..

Honestly I think most (not all) shows don’t really hit their stride until the 2nd or 3rd season.

r14 Which is why I think it is a shame the original Twin Peaks in 1990 was axed after two seasons.

I don't agree about Twin Peaks. I think Twin Peaks was a one/two season show at best, maybe even a mini series. Once the main mystery was solved, there was not a whole lot to sustain it.

Star Trek Enterprise. Rambling seasons 1 and 2, to engaging character driven seasons 3 and 4. Shame about the terrible series finale, however, it was just getting good when the show ended.

Knots Landing? Never heard of it.

r16 Fair enough but I personally saw plenty potential with characters like Catherine Martell,Nadine Hurley and Annie Blackburn.I feel it just needed one big overarching new storyline to give it massive vigour and medium term longevity.

Agree about Roseanne. The first few seasons are not great, until she and Tom Arnold took over.

Well, we all like the later seasons of "Bewitched" when there was Darren #2.

I prefer the later seasons of Small Wonder.

I'm a big fan of the first 2 seasons of Bewitched. Even though they were still working things out, Alice Pierce was amazing and Darren and Samantha seemed really in love.

The later seasons (6 and 7) of Designing Women were better. Linda Bloodworth-Thomason had lost interest with it at that point and moved onto other things. The show becomes a more standard sitcom, and the better for it. The earlier seasons reflected LBT's taste: lots of heavy-handed political lectures and syrupy Very Special Episodes.

Mom, The Nanny, The Golden Girls

Beverly Hills 90210 when it became a full on soap opera and "Melrose Place lite" beginning in season 4, the first college season
Self contained, after school special typ episodes were replaced with continuing stories like Brandon having an affair with his married teacher, Brenda running off to marry Stuart but is still in love with Dylan whose with Kelly her former best friend, Dylan getting a long lost sister, who ends up being kidnapped by his "dead" father's lover and her new husband etc

One Day at a Time improved as it went on. I won't say it was ever good, but the later seasons were better than the earlier ones.

I'm the exact opposite, R27. That's when I checked out.

Star Trek TOS
Star Trek TNG
Star Trek DS9
Star Trek Enterprise - if you chop all four of these series in half, then I can watch the later episodes the best.
The sole exception is Star Trek Voyager. If you chop it in half then the first 3 years are the easier seasons to watch before Seven Of Everything shows up & can do just about everything that was needed to be done. Too much Borg crap shoved into viewers faces until momma bear got the damn ship home at the literal last minute.

Being Human - the UK series. I much prefer the three leads in that last season over brooding Aidan Turner and whiny Russell Tovey in the first few seasons.
