Thanks for the new thread OP!

by Anonymousreply 1September 9, 2022 5:30 PM

Let's go ons!

by Anonymousreply 2September 9, 2022 5:33 PM

Carlos and Ruud in the final!

he wore dark shorts today so we were deprived of the view

by Anonymousreply 5September 9, 2022 6:34 PM

The ATP's dress code should ban dark shorts.

by Anonymousreply 6September 9, 2022 7:35 PM

I can’t put my finger on why but I can’t stand Swiatek. Maybe it’s the ugly groundstrokes. Or the weird fist pump. Or the gamesmanship.

by Anonymousreply 7September 9, 2022 7:38 PM

I saw him (Salisbury) and Rajeev practice at Indian Wells and ending up talking with his mom. He was shirtless and has a beautiful body. Ram has absolutely huge feet. I was 10 feet off the court, it was great.

by Anonymousreply 8September 9, 2022 7:39 PM

Khachanov is a hottie. Probably boring though.

by Anonymousreply 9September 9, 2022 7:40 PM

Khachanov likes chess, apparently. And Cristiano Ronaldo.

by Anonymousreply 10September 9, 2022 7:43 PM

This is the Disney Princes semi.

by Anonymousreply 11September 9, 2022 7:45 PM

R7 bitch is on steroids sponsored and covered by goverment

by Anonymousreply 12September 9, 2022 7:47 PM

The junior finalists are:

Havlickova vs Eala

Baily vs Landaluce.

Eala is from philipines and trains on Rafa Nadal academy. It could be the second year in a row with a spanish champions on boys tournament if Landaluce (who is the younges in the top 10 junior) wins

by Anonymousreply 13September 9, 2022 7:52 PM

a mix of the good and bad points in this first set and here we are in a tiebreak

by Anonymousreply 14September 9, 2022 8:04 PM

These young guys are playing some amazing tennis. Alcaraz v. Tiafoe tonight gonna be 🔥

by Anonymousreply 15September 9, 2022 8:12 PM

55 shots on set point!

by Anonymousreply 16September 9, 2022 8:13 PM

That was a crazy-long rally for set point.

by Anonymousreply 17September 9, 2022 8:14 PM

I'm here for Karen's chest hair poking out of that Nike shirt. God, he's hot.

But Ruud is my boy. Just a lovely guy, and hard working. Watch him win the whole dang thing and be #1. People will go nuts.

And with Federer and Nadal in question for Laver Cup, don't you think Ruud and Alacaraz would be great replacements? And certainly Foe should play for the World, right? Is Isner still injured?

by Anonymousreply 18September 9, 2022 8:22 PM

Word on the street is that Federer and Isner will return to the Tour on the same day.

by Anonymousreply 19September 9, 2022 8:31 PM

People underestimate Ruud but he is so solid on court right now.

by Anonymousreply 20September 9, 2022 8:33 PM

Alcaraz-Ruud would be harder to pick than this match.

by Anonymousreply 21September 9, 2022 8:54 PM

Ruud's dad is kinda hot too. And the sister is gorgeous. Pretty family.

by Anonymousreply 22September 9, 2022 9:12 PM

I absolutely love Casper's dimples and his unruly mop of hair.

by Anonymousreply 23September 9, 2022 9:13 PM

Ruud choked that last game badly

by Anonymousreply 24September 9, 2022 9:34 PM

K Hemsworth took the 3rd! We're going at least 4, bitches.

by Anonymousreply 25September 9, 2022 9:35 PM

Karen keeping the flame alive. Probably futile but we'll see.

by Anonymousreply 26September 9, 2022 9:35 PM

Casper needs to take down his shorts and let me pleasure him. Relieve the tension, ya know.

by Anonymousreply 27September 9, 2022 9:36 PM

Karen Hemsworth’s shirt with it’s little cut out for his chest hair is very alluring

by Anonymousreply 28September 9, 2022 9:36 PM

I think most of us thought Ruud had a lower ceiling, at least in the near time.

by Anonymousreply 29September 9, 2022 9:46 PM

double break point for Casper

by Anonymousreply 30September 9, 2022 9:50 PM

and he breaks with a crazy-good FH down the line on the run!

by Anonymousreply 31September 9, 2022 9:51 PM

CASPER!!!!

by Anonymousreply 32September 9, 2022 9:52 PM

Wow that forehand by Ruud to break was crazy good.

by Anonymousreply 33September 9, 2022 9:52 PM

I'd rather probe Casper's floor than his ceiling...

by Anonymousreply 34September 9, 2022 9:53 PM

What are Casper Ruud’s and Karen Khachanov’s respective skin colors?

by Anonymousreply 35September 9, 2022 10:02 PM

double break for Cute Casper!

by Anonymousreply 36September 9, 2022 10:02 PM

Ruud 2 games from final and possible #1 ranking if Alcaraz loses tonight or he beats him on Sunday

by Anonymousreply 37September 9, 2022 10:03 PM

Love it when Casper just takes charge:

"No more fannying around, I'm ending this now"

(He'll lose it now)

by Anonymousreply 38September 9, 2022 10:05 PM

those women in Casper's box are the blondest blondes who ever blonded

by Anonymousreply 39September 9, 2022 10:07 PM

They're his sisters

by Anonymousreply 40September 9, 2022 10:08 PM

We're his sisters.

by Anonymousreply 41September 9, 2022 10:08 PM

Do we know if cutie Casper ever allows the services of other mens?

by Anonymousreply 42September 9, 2022 10:10 PM

casper has 2 sisters?

by Anonymousreply 45September 9, 2022 10:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 48September 9, 2022 10:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 49September 9, 2022 10:27 PM

Yup R48. Maybe Casper wrote his number on one of them They're going to hook up later in the locker room. Hot.

by Anonymousreply 50September 9, 2022 10:28 PM

R45 I believe he has 3. Two are there. Both very pretty and the dad is a DILF too

Iga Swiatek immediately regrets ‘disgusting’ US Open reveal during court interview

A bathroom break helped propel Iga Swiatek to a comeback win against No. 6 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the second semifinal at the U.S. Open on Thursday night.

In her post-match interview, the No. 1-ranked player, who used the restroom after the first set, said she felt much “lighter” when she returned to the court. It was a TMI detail Swiatek quickly regretted saying.

“It’s more what I did (in the bathroom),” Swiatek, 21, said about her strong performance after the break between sets. “I kind of needed to go. For sure I felt lighter. Sorry, that’s disgusting.”

The Polish pro indeed looked like a different player after the first set. She defeated Sabalenka 6-1 in the second set and then came back from down 4-2 in the final set to win the match (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).

“I tried to use that time to really try to think about what to change and do it in a good way,” Swiatek said. “I remember earlier when I was younger, all I did in the bathroom between sets when I lost was cry. This time I can actually think about what to change and actually problem solve. I’m pretty glad I did that, because I got a new idea for the second set.”

Swiatek’s win over Sabalenka was a milestone 50th win of her career at a Grand Slam. She is now 50-12 overall at the majors.

Swiatek, a two-time French Open champ, will face No. 5 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in the women’s final on Saturday in Flushing Meadows.

Shwee-i-take-a-shit

by Anonymousreply 56September 9, 2022 10:52 PM

Tiafoe looks tired already.

by Anonymousreply 57September 9, 2022 11:47 PM

Tiafoe is sweating so much. Carlos is not sweating that much.

by Anonymousreply 58September 10, 2022 12:29 AM

That game point was insane!

by Anonymousreply 59September 10, 2022 12:32 AM

The mixed doubles pickle ball semifinal on Tennis Channel is exciting. Thoughts?

Waters/Johns team or Smith/Koller team?

by Anonymousreply 60September 10, 2022 12:35 AM

Tiafoe grabs the first set!

by Anonymousreply 61September 10, 2022 12:41 AM

I've never seen Tiafoe play so well.

by Anonymousreply 62September 10, 2022 12:53 AM

is Carlos greying? I see a few white hairs.

by Anonymousreply 63September 10, 2022 1:03 AM

Carlitos not only has a prominent black mole on the right side of his neck but also a larger one on the back of his neck.

by Anonymousreply 64September 10, 2022 1:16 AM

Tiafoe is tired. he was sweating so much in the first set. he's running out of gas...

by Anonymousreply 65September 10, 2022 1:19 AM

McEnroe fangirling Carlos so hard, lol.

by Anonymousreply 66September 10, 2022 1:30 AM

Tiafoe went to the bathroom?

by Anonymousreply 67September 10, 2022 1:32 AM

"Occupied!"

by Anonymousreply 68September 10, 2022 1:36 AM

What’s the deal with people bringing their tiny dogs to the USO? They just showed Martina in the audience with a tiny dog on her lap. The other day another woman had her tiny dog wearing sunglasses and a little doggie outfit. Why would you do this?

by Anonymousreply 69September 10, 2022 1:38 AM

I know I should be rooting for Tiafoe as an American but hes so fugly and his toxic masculinity is boring

by Anonymousreply 70September 10, 2022 1:39 AM

Frances is fading.

by Anonymousreply 71September 10, 2022 1:47 AM

yes, I totally knew he would run out of gas. He needs to improve his fitness.

by Anonymousreply 72September 10, 2022 1:49 AM

Yes, I am not rooting for him either...the hype is too much.

by Anonymousreply 73September 10, 2022 1:50 AM

Frances still sweating like

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 74September 10, 2022 1:56 AM

R70 Toxic masculinity? You realize that every person he encounters he gives them a hug, right? I don't see how that matches up with being toxic.

He's also considered one of the warmest, and friendliest people on tour.

Can you give some examples?

by Anonymousreply 75September 10, 2022 2:02 AM

Will brown boy beat black guy?

by Anonymousreply 76September 10, 2022 2:04 AM

Does Tiafoe gotta support his whole family too? What does his twin brother do for a living?

by Anonymousreply 77September 10, 2022 2:04 AM

so who do you think will win the final? casper or carlos?

by Anonymousreply 78September 10, 2022 2:11 AM

This kid is so good it’s scary.

by Anonymousreply 79September 10, 2022 2:11 AM

Alcarez is on fire. I was hoping Tiafoe to win but it's not looking good for him right now.

by Anonymousreply 80September 10, 2022 2:16 AM

I don’t see the “toxic masculinity” in Frances. He def has swagger and a cocky charm - but I’ve never seen a hint of the anger and violence that so many players exhibit.

He has a sarcastic and deadpan sense of humor and loves performing for the crowd and that’s enjoyable imo…

by Anonymousreply 81September 10, 2022 2:22 AM

I like Tiafoe, he seems like a nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 82September 10, 2022 2:23 AM

Is Matteo adopted or his brother adopted?

by Anonymousreply 83September 10, 2022 2:31 AM

Plenty of players radiate danger or self-destructiveness, but Tiafoe is not one of them.

by Anonymousreply 84September 10, 2022 2:31 AM

Tiafoe is about as toxically masculine as Paddington Bear.

by Anonymousreply 85September 10, 2022 2:43 AM

R85 I heard Paddington Bear's favorite movie was Fight Club.

by Anonymousreply 86September 10, 2022 2:45 AM

[quote] I heard Paddington Bear's favorite movie was Fight Club.

Well it certainly wasn’t this piece of dreck.

Frances just hurled an f-bomb.

by Anonymousreply 88September 10, 2022 2:57 AM

it's clear R70 is blind and isn't a good judge of character

by Anonymousreply 89September 10, 2022 2:58 AM

what the fuck do they feed those Spanish players? Alcaraz has endless energy and never gets tired just like Nadal. PCB is like that too but just not as talented

by Anonymousreply 90September 10, 2022 2:59 AM

CAN NOT STAND TIAFOE!.... ALL THAT damn mugging! May have come from humble beginnings, but he sure as hell isn't humble or classy...

off topic, but why at the u.s. open are the cameras CONSTANTLY showing "celebrities" in the audience? I've never known of any major sporting event that is forever doing this? WHY? Is it to show how cool and important the u.s. open and in particular Tennis is?...

by Anonymousreply 91September 10, 2022 3:10 AM

Why announcers say “Mugurutha” but not “Alcarath”?

by Anonymousreply 92September 10, 2022 3:11 AM

5 sets bitches!

Tiafoe comeback?

I wish this was the final

Ruud had a much easier draw

by Anonymousreply 93September 10, 2022 3:12 AM

Are you KIDDING ME??

by Anonymousreply 94September 10, 2022 3:12 AM

whoever the guy wearing the blue shirt is in Tiafoe's box, he's hot too. He looks like a trainer

by Anonymousreply 95September 10, 2022 3:14 AM

R91, they only do that in every other sport on the planet.

by Anonymousreply 96September 10, 2022 3:14 AM

R91, I don’t watch NBA games, but apparently they frequently show celebrities in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 97September 10, 2022 3:15 AM

R96... I don't know it just seems like at the U.S. open they do it more than other sports, nauseatingly so....

Alcaraz should have simply nailed the ball down the line on his match point instead of being "too cutesy" with that drop shot. match should already be over... Also he didn't need to go for the lines in that 4th set tiebreaker either....

by Anonymousreply 98September 10, 2022 3:15 AM

WWE wrestlers have more restraint than Tiafoe.

by Anonymousreply 99September 10, 2022 3:16 AM

Tiafoe is on the obnoxious side post points/sets he wins but it is the biggest match of his life.

by Anonymousreply 100September 10, 2022 3:18 AM

Tiafoe and Alvarez both play to the audience and milk it a bit, but it's all good spirited. Some of you just need an excuse to exercise your perpetual disgruntlement.

by Anonymousreply 101September 10, 2022 3:30 AM

Alcaraz*

by Anonymousreply 102September 10, 2022 3:30 AM

R101 thank you

Tiafoe and Alcaraz are not annoying. They are fired up but friendly before and after matches. They feed off the crowd

2 of the best bodies on tour too

by Anonymousreply 103September 10, 2022 3:33 AM

Tiafoe is so likeable how can you not root for him?

by Anonymousreply 104September 10, 2022 3:34 AM

I can't imagine how unbeatable Alcaraz is going to be by the time he's 21-22. He's so close now to being impossible. He's got the speed, power off all wings, touch, fitness/endurance...the only thing is sometimes he has a couple of loose moments but that's normal especially for a teenager

by Anonymousreply 105September 10, 2022 3:34 AM

If he stays healthy and just keeps improving Alcaraz will be scary good by his mid 20s.

by Anonymousreply 106September 10, 2022 3:37 AM

I'm ready for this match to be over.

by Anonymousreply 107September 10, 2022 3:48 AM

Alcaraz (Garfia) in the final.

by Anonymousreply 108September 10, 2022 3:56 AM

Alcaraz is just a warrior. He refuses to lose. I really hope he wins the title. His path to the final has had much tougher opponents than Ruud who got lucky with all the upsets.

Tiafoe played the tournament of his life. If he can keep this form up he should be able to win more titles and be a contender at the other slams/masters.

by Anonymousreply 109September 10, 2022 3:56 AM

I just hope Alcarez doesn't become a diva. There's no denying he's very talented but he needs to remain humble.

by Anonymousreply 110September 10, 2022 3:58 AM

Brown boy beated black guy.

by Anonymousreply 111September 10, 2022 3:59 AM

Tiafoe apologized for losing, what a guy. Alcarez needs to practice his English.

by Anonymousreply 112September 10, 2022 4:01 AM

Alcaraz has much better English than Nadal did at that age

by Anonymousreply 113September 10, 2022 4:01 AM

sad that Alcaraz already has noticeable crow's feet and not even 20 yet.

by Anonymousreply 114September 10, 2022 4:04 AM

I hope Alcaraz wins, Rudd bugs me for no reasonable explanation. He just does.

by Anonymousreply 115September 10, 2022 4:04 AM

Svee-i-tek team or Ons team?

by Anonymousreply 116September 10, 2022 4:06 AM

Ons team!

by Anonymousreply 117September 10, 2022 4:07 AM

Ruud is solid but his overall game isn't super impressive. Lots of action on that forehand and decent first serve for his size but the overly spinny backhand is a big no. Alcaraz should tear that side up on him

by Anonymousreply 118September 10, 2022 4:07 AM

Alcaraz’s coach is a 🦊

by Anonymousreply 119September 10, 2022 4:09 AM

When I saw Ruud on the street on Park Ave, he looked very full of himself. However, I see that he's very nice to fans so he's OK.

by Anonymousreply 120September 10, 2022 4:09 AM

Did you see his Carlos's brother? Thick curly hair who looks like him

by Anonymousreply 121September 10, 2022 4:10 AM

Carlos needs some white strips. But yeah, he is scary good. All the strokes, court smarts, and an insane level of composure - all at 19.

by Anonymousreply 122September 10, 2022 4:14 AM

R118 I'm sure that's the plan. To attack the backhand

by Anonymousreply 123September 10, 2022 4:15 AM

Carlo's package.

by Anonymousreply 124September 10, 2022 4:24 AM

Happy Tiafoe lost. I’m so fucking sick of hyper macho bullshit in tennis. It’s a fucking stereotype now. Enough! Tennis can be manly. You don’t have to express every fucking point played.

by Anonymousreply 125September 10, 2022 4:37 AM

I'm glad Tiafoe lost too, I'm glad I don't have to hear anymore vomit inducing accolades about him and how "great" he is.

by Anonymousreply 126September 10, 2022 4:50 AM

Exactly r126.

by Anonymousreply 127September 10, 2022 5:10 AM

R119, Carlos' coach is hot. He was a top tennis player in his day.

by Anonymousreply 128September 10, 2022 5:15 AM

R112 Why don't more people speak Spanish? Or, at least get one who can interview him in Spanish.

by Anonymousreply 129September 10, 2022 5:44 AM

R118 and R123 Ruud's backhand has improved so much though. It was a liability just last year. This year it's actually become a weapon. Sure, his forehand is still better, but it's like that for most players.

by Anonymousreply 130September 10, 2022 5:48 AM

R119 and R128 I love Ferrero! He is so sweet and talented. And yes, hot🤤 Ferrero and Alcaraz have the the sweetest relationship. They seem very close.

by Anonymousreply 131September 10, 2022 5:50 AM

Ruud has very compact swings. I'd never noticed them before. He has a lovely game. A little safe but he is a very smart tennis player.

by Anonymousreply 132September 10, 2022 5:52 AM

R90 Same can be said for Ruud. He's probably one of the fittest players on the tour. He can run down all the balls and never seem to get tired. I'd say he's better in best of 5 matches because he wears down his opponents until they get tired.

by Anonymousreply 133September 10, 2022 5:53 AM

[quote] Ferrero and Alcaraz have the the sweetest relationship. They seem very close.

I think it was during the French Open that they should a video of Ferrero arriving at the hotel where Carlitos was staying, and he literally jumped up and down with a wide smile when he arrived. Just like a kid.

by Anonymousreply 134September 10, 2022 5:54 AM

R133 I agree. Deceiving speed and he never seems over tired.

by Anonymousreply 135September 10, 2022 5:57 AM

The DL's own Tommy Paul actually has given Ruud his toughest test. There's no good reason why that match couldn't have been played shirtless. They both have rocking bodies.

by Anonymousreply 136September 10, 2022 6:01 AM

I'm scared for the final. I really want Ruud to win. It would mean so much to Norwegians everywhere. What he has done is simply out of this world. It's huge for this little country. We are usually only good in winter sports. Just imagining having a grand slam winner is unreal. I just fear we are so close but Alcaraz will end up winning in the end😭 Really hope I'm wrong though.

by Anonymousreply 137September 10, 2022 6:02 AM

Alcaraz’s fist-pumping after literally every point he wins is so annoying.

by Anonymousreply 138September 10, 2022 6:03 AM

If Tiafoe was Ruud's opponent in the final I'd give Ruud a 70-80 % chance of winning. Tiafoe is a good match-up for him. Alcaraz is the exact opposite. He's the worst match-up. I don't think Ruud has the game to beat him.

by Anonymousreply 139September 10, 2022 6:04 AM

R138 yeah he's getting on my nerves. Casper is way more humble.

by Anonymousreply 140September 10, 2022 6:04 AM

I hope Casper beats the shit out of the roided out cunt.

by Anonymousreply 141September 10, 2022 6:55 AM

[quote] We are usually only good in winter sports.

Really, R137 ?

by Anonymousreply 142September 10, 2022 7:38 AM

Ruud will have a lot of work to do to prove himself as a convincing #1 or #2 player. His record right now against the top 30 isn't impressive at all. He only owns Cilic, Shapovalov and Opelka.

Alcaraz at a young age already has so many top player wins. He hasn't played everyone yet but most top guys he's faced more than once, he's got at least 1 win over.

by Anonymousreply 143September 10, 2022 8:45 AM

R142 Yes, but I mean before them. Now we have Ingebritsen and Warholm in track and field, Hovland in golf, Haaland in soccer and Ruud in tennis. Can't forget about Mol and Sørum in beach volleyball either, or Blummenfeldt in triathlon. I guess we're doing ok considering we are a population of 5 million.

by Anonymousreply 144September 10, 2022 10:52 AM

Cute Casper

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 145September 10, 2022 11:16 AM

Really torn over this final because I love them both. Carlos’ tennis is undeniably more exciting, but this is probably Casper’s best chance at a slam.

by Anonymousreply 146September 10, 2022 11:36 AM

R157 = SONJA HENIE

by Anonymousreply 147September 10, 2022 11:42 AM

I had courtside seats to the studs men’s games yesterday. I drooled over Carlos - his hot ass and vpl. His moaning as he hit the balls made it hard to concentrate at times.

by Anonymousreply 148September 10, 2022 12:01 PM

How in the hell did Ruud just a couple of weeks ago lose handily 3 and 3 to recent NCAA champion Shelton? and Now is in the finals of the U.S. open?...

that loss was BEYOND embarrassing..top 5 player losing easily to a college player??

by Anonymousreply 149September 10, 2022 1:17 PM

Are you perfect every day r149? Neither is Casper, nor anyone.

by Anonymousreply 150September 10, 2022 1:33 PM

R141 Glad someone else sees it.

Kid did two back to back 5 setter 5 hour marathons, losing two tiebreaks, hitting like a ball basher all the times and still looking energetic, fresh and in full recovery like a mountain flower, all of this at 19 with his body not even fully developed for such harsh fights. I've never seen a player so obviously on doping. The tests on ATP tour are a joke.

THANKS RAFA

by Anonymousreply 152September 10, 2022 2:58 PM

Tiafoe is so messy, Did you see all the messy towels etc after the match and he left his bag there, left with only his rackets.

by Anonymousreply 153September 10, 2022 3:09 PM

LOL I kept thinking how gross his hotel room must be

by Anonymousreply 154September 10, 2022 3:14 PM

Don't underestimate Ruud. He can totally win this thing. Unbelievably solid, consistent. Alcaraz is flashier, true, and goes in as the favorite (+ media hype), but Ruud will be right in it.

by Anonymousreply 155September 10, 2022 3:23 PM

Ons team.

by Anonymousreply 156September 10, 2022 3:25 PM

I’m Sonja Henie.

by Anonymousreply 157September 10, 2022 3:25 PM

Ruud played really solid yesterday.

I wasn't on DL for Tiafoe-Alcaraz. Alcaraz was the better player who was sloppy at times. Fifth five-set win; kudos!

I was impressed with Tiafoe for one big reason - he kept his head about him when he was completely lost in the woods and getting destroyed for that 11-12 game stretch. Former Big Foe would have gone into crowd pleasing mode with trick shots and lots of engagement. But, he really kept on grinding, even though his confidence was probably shot and found his way back into the fourth set - and then unbelievably won it with some some Alcaraz mistakes and timely good play/shots by Tiafoe. He can feel a lot better than if he would have lost 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, letting Alacaraz sprint to the finish.

Alcaraz is such a talent, but he can get streaky. And Ruud is the picture of consistency and has beefed up his game a little. Alcaraz has won their only two matches, not that I'm sure that matters in this situation. But anyway, I'm excited for the final.

by Anonymousreply 158September 10, 2022 3:28 PM

Whoops, I meant "third five-set win."

by Anonymousreply 159September 10, 2022 3:33 PM

Well, our little DL conspiracy theorists. Alcaraz came off court and had to give a pee sample. So he’s going to be caught, right?

by Anonymousreply 160September 10, 2022 4:59 PM

R160, most athletes who dope can pass drug tests, because of drug cycling. That means that the drugs are used between competitions to allow the athlete to build muscle and practice harder. The athlete is then tapered off the drugs. The hapless Russian figure skater who was caught recently simply hadn’t cleared the drugs from her system quickly enough.

by Anonymousreply 161September 10, 2022 5:17 PM

R161, tennis players are regularly tested outside of competition time, with surprise visits from the testers. Remember when Serena hid in her panic room to get away from the tester? The same happens in other sports too, e.g. Lance Armstrong trying to pretend the Tour de France officials were deliberately harassing him when he had a surprise visit from testers.

by Anonymousreply 162September 10, 2022 5:51 PM

R162, there are no more “surprise visits” for tennis players.

I just came across a match between Serena and Martina Hingis, a.k.a. Chucky, at the Aus Open in 2001 and OMG, I had totally forgotten how thin Serena once was. We've been so much of that pantagruelesque mama figure in the last 10 years that we forgot how fit and lanky she was.

by Anonymousreply 180September 10, 2022 9:00 PM

She may not be a compelling personality yet, but I do admire how Swiatek embraces being #1. After years of enduring so many head cases on the WTA and one-slam wonders, it's refreshing to see a player finally rise to the challenge. Her record in finals is insanely impressive.

by Anonymousreply 202September 10, 2022 10:24 PM

R201 I was thinking that if Swiatek can win the US Open, why can't Barty? She just needed the right draw, a bit of luck. She should have kept playing. It was a shock that she retired. Maybe she could just have taken more time off in between slams if that was the issue.

by Anonymousreply 203September 10, 2022 10:24 PM

Swiatek is so awkward to listen to talk. From sharing she took a crap between sets to her other awkward answers.

by Anonymousreply 218September 10, 2022 10:44 PM

R180 the second set was certainly more entertaining than the worst men's RG final we've seen in years this year. Ruud was a dud rolling over for Nadal

by Anonymousreply 219September 10, 2022 10:47 PM

I'm glad that Swiatek has embraced her #1 role. There was concern when Barty retired that Swiatek would crack under pressure but she hasn't. Next question will be how she handles trying to defend everything next year. 3 slams on 2 different surfaces is a good start so far

I think Jabeur will have more chances to get a slam in the next 2 years. She's late 20s so she needs to capitalize on everything now.

by Anonymousreply 220September 10, 2022 10:48 PM

Back to pickle ball on Tennis Channel which is more compelling than this USA Open women's final!

by Anonymousreply 221September 10, 2022 10:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 222September 10, 2022 10:50 PM

R220 barty was better no 1, iga got it too easy , she is keeping it because wta is a mess right now, but she is NOT unbeatable. She is not so amazing how she is pictured.

by Anonymousreply 223September 10, 2022 10:53 PM

R220 yep. The pressure will be on Iga next year in a big way. Just its competitive I hope players find ways to break her game down.

by Anonymousreply 224September 10, 2022 10:54 PM

To be fair though, Iga already has the same amount of slams as Barty, and two more WTA1000s than what Barty got over a longer period... but we will see.

Ruud's record against the other top 25 players and slam winners: 31-41 = 43% win rate

Nadal 0-1

Djokovic 0-3

Alcaraz 0-2 (both this year)

Zverev 1-2

Taylor Townhouse is in the women's dubs finals!

by Anonymousreply 239September 11, 2022 10:58 AM

Swiatek did what most recent number 1 were unable to do, really show she is a number one and dominate.

I love Barty's game, but her numbers are extremely overrated. She was basically number one a whole year without playing a single match due the pandemic.

I like Ruud and i wouldn't mind if he wins, but he will be the weakest number one ever. He is a solid player but his numbers against top players are bad.

Both junior winners train on Rafa Nadal Academy. Landaluce is the second spanish player in a row to win the US Open, and the first 16 yo since Rune and Mochizuki won RG and Wimbledon three years ago

by Anonymousreply 240September 11, 2022 11:02 AM

R240 of course she is dominating esus but her rivalrs are in pathetic state, I dont remember such weak top 10

by Anonymousreply 241September 11, 2022 11:40 AM

That's not her fault.

To be fair, the top 10 it's been that way before Swiatek was number one

by Anonymousreply 242September 11, 2022 11:50 AM

Is anyone reading CARRIE SOTO IS BACK, about women’s tennis, by the author of DAISY AND THE SIX? It’s really baaad.

by Anonymousreply 243September 11, 2022 11:54 AM

R242 so barty wasnt real no 1 because of pandemic, but swiatek is real no 1 with same weak competitors? Barty has less titles because she didnt care and didnt play so much. And I think top 10 now is even worse than 3 years ago

by Anonymousreply 244September 11, 2022 12:00 PM

I talk about level of play. Barty was so much better, entertaining competitor. And swiatek got no 1 for free, she didnt beat Barty , she took her place.

by Anonymousreply 245September 11, 2022 12:06 PM

R243 Taylor Reid Jenkins seems to like tennis, two of the characters of Malibu rising were tennis players (i think they were losely inspired on Connors and Evert)

by Anonymousreply 246September 11, 2022 12:18 PM

R244 Who said that?

Barty was a real number one, but her number of weeks at number one was not remotely close to the domination she had. She ended the year as number one three times, the same as Seles and Hingis and she is not remotely in that league.

Anyway this discussion is pointless because she retired because she wanted. She was not injured or old.

Everybody expected Swiatek to crumble under the pressure but she rose to the challenge. She completely dominated the clay season (she is the best clay courter since Justine Henin) and now won the US Open. She won two GS on the same season (something Barty never did)

by Anonymousreply 247September 11, 2022 12:22 PM

R247 Iga swiatek said she had deserved her no 1 because she won IW and Miami. Barty could have stayed and swiatek would still won? WE DONT KNOW THAT. Maybe she wouldnt.I d love to see iga beating Barty in USA or later during clay season. But she did NEVER beat no1. Even this year

by Anonymousreply 248September 11, 2022 12:27 PM

I think Barty won her first slam when she was 23. Swiatek is still 21 so maybe she can get even better and win more slams.

by Anonymousreply 249September 11, 2022 1:40 PM

R249 bary didnt start her peak in weakest year ever

by Anonymousreply 250September 11, 2022 1:42 PM

That was the most boring final ever on us open..There is so much subtle gamesmanship going on with Iga. Delaying Ons serve, changing rackets between points, going to her chair when it isn't a change of ends. She is s cheater. Is that her trick? She will not be liked if she keeps doing it.

by Anonymousreply 251September 11, 2022 2:21 PM

R251 I noticed those things too. They are small but almost no other player does them as much as her. Little tactics here and there. Tennis is about momentum and I guess she smartly tries to alter it with her stalls of time.

by Anonymousreply 252September 11, 2022 2:27 PM

Yes, agreed, I was supporting her but I hope she cuts that crap out because it didn't even work (she still lost the point/game from what I saw) and it's a horrible look - very off-putting for fans. Just focus on the tennis.

by Anonymousreply 253September 11, 2022 2:27 PM

yeah and she said something stupid that she's glad that it's not cash, when handed the check. What a stupid cunt. Not a fan. I'm gutted for Ons.

by Anonymousreply 264September 11, 2022 2:48 PM

by Anonymousreply 265September 11, 2022 2:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 268September 11, 2022 2:56 PM

R265 so iga is a clown now? It was a stand-up or something? jesus, you re dumb. If It was "only" million for a win, she wouldnt have said so? Maybe Iga agrees with me that for that female shit show women earn too much I categorically disagree w/ the women getting paid the same as the men. Imo you should get paid based on your workload.

by Anonymousreply 269September 11, 2022 2:58 PM

R269 Who turns down getting millions? Virtually no-one. It's pretty much why they play professionally. But it came across as a subtle acknowledgment that she knows how large the sum is.

by Anonymousreply 270September 11, 2022 3:01 PM

I honestly think it's silly that women get paid as much as men for doing less. Iga won in 2 sets with only the second set being competitive. A point here or there and it wouldve gone 3. Not her fault Ons couldn't bring it. However if today's match is fairly competitive it will at least go 4 and they don't earn more than her? Bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 271September 11, 2022 3:03 PM

Taylor Townsend in her runner-up speech talking about putting in the work and grinding everyday to improve but won’t lose the 30lbs she so obviously needs to to become a top rank player.

Is no one being honest with her? I don’t understand it

by Anonymousreply 291September 11, 2022 7:36 PM

I don't understand it either. how can you call yourself a pro when you are fat?! it's so unprofessional!

by Anonymousreply 292September 11, 2022 7:37 PM

Carlos is not 100%,

are you guys watching ESPN? they showed him warming up and he is walking with a limp. looks like the right leg. all those 5 hour matches are catching up to him.

I think casper will take this.

by Anonymousreply 293September 11, 2022 7:40 PM

the only way Ruud will beat Alcaraz is if Alcaraz is injured, tired or chokes.

by Anonymousreply 294September 11, 2022 7:46 PM

Ruud has had some great draws this year. He's solid but does not have a dominating game

by Anonymousreply 295September 11, 2022 7:47 PM

Townsend had a baby. I suspect she’s doing the best she can. And I love her game.

McNally was the weak link.

by Anonymousreply 296September 11, 2022 7:49 PM

It's curious, Iga is loved in every forum i watched but i wouldn't be surprised if she is hated here, everybody is hated on DL

by Anonymousreply 297September 11, 2022 7:51 PM

Agree, R297. Everyone is either too boring or, the opposite, too cocky. Or they win too much, or they take steroids (and DLers are the ultimate arbiters of this).

by Anonymousreply 298September 11, 2022 7:55 PM

R296 it’s not like she was in shape before she had her baby either.

and yes Taylor Townsend she does have a great game, that’s what makes it so frustrating that she won’t do the most obvious thing to actually take advantage of her talent

by Anonymousreply 299September 11, 2022 7:56 PM

there is widespread doping in all sports, since the start of time. that's a fact.

by Anonymousreply 300September 11, 2022 7:57 PM

R149 Ruud reportedly complained that there wasn't enough room on the court in Cincinnati to run down all of Shelton's shots

if you notice at the USO he goes as far back as possible like Nadal, Djokovic, Medvedev etc.

the way to beat him is with shorter angles. His movement is very good

by Anonymousreply 301September 11, 2022 8:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 310September 11, 2022 8:10 PM

[quote]Taylor Townsend in her runner-up speech talking about putting in the work and grinding everyday to improve but won’t lose the 30lbs she so obviously needs to to become a top rank player.

You have a point. In the grand scheme of things, 30lbs is nothing for an elite athlete to lose. You can lose 30lbs in a month on a strict, regimented diet. I'm sure there are tons of nutritionalists/trainers who can help her easily get there.

by Anonymousreply 318September 11, 2022 8:19 PM

I was fairly neutral, but the overwhelming bias of the Tenniserati for Alcaraz has me ruu-ting for Ruud.

I think Alcaraz is winning this, but God I hope Ruud will bring justice and beat the shit out of that drugged up media lovechild. Ruud is going to be No. 1 regardless after this, maybe a few weeks, probably slamless if he doesn't win tonight.

by Anonymousreply 327September 11, 2022 8:29 PM

[quote] has to defend way less points

by Anonymousreply 334September 11, 2022 8:35 PM

R331 Ruud defends 250 points from San Diego, QF in Wien and Paris and a semi at the ATP Finals. Yeah I didn't remember the semi in Turin, my bad. But never say never, if Alcaraz disappoints like this summer and Ruud wins a couple of masters things can be different. But yeah he HAS to win this.

by Anonymousreply 335September 11, 2022 8:35 PM

Yikes, Christie Brinkley has overindexed on fillers!

by Anonymousreply 336September 11, 2022 8:36 PM

I think Taylor was making a statement. She’s comfortable with her body. She’s taunting the DL. But she refuses to be shamed.

by Anonymousreply 337September 11, 2022 8:37 PM

R335 I can see Ruud doing well, but i can't see Alcaraz flopping like last season.

Ruud will need to do very well on Paris and Carlos losing early to have a chance

by Anonymousreply 338September 11, 2022 8:37 PM

Andy Roddick still has a nice ass. Agree or disagree?

I mean to put "ass" there.

by Anonymousreply 353September 11, 2022 9:33 PM

And that just like that, Ruud isn't just "hanging in" but up a break in the second set.

by Anonymousreply 354September 11, 2022 9:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 379September 11, 2022 10:33 PM

Alcaraz is better than Ruud, but he's not executing. He's spraying too many balls, making poor shot selection at critical times, and not serving as well as he can. I fear that Ruud will just "solid" his way to his maiden Slam title.

by Anonymousreply 380September 11, 2022 10:34 PM

Alcaraz's obsession for these poorly executed dropshots is unbelievable. Latino himbo just dropped after the blond version of Shapo.

R380 it's a combo of fatigue and lack of experience

he needs to stop with the drop shots for sure too

by Anonymousreply 385September 11, 2022 10:41 PM

"What next big tournament after USA Open?"

There's no Slam - the biggest level tournament - until the Australian Open in January.

Other than that - there's the Masters tournaments in Paris and Shanghai before the end of the season. Plus, the Tour Finals - which only the top 8 qualify for.

by Anonymousreply 386September 11, 2022 10:44 PM

actually there are no tournaments in Russia and China this year so that has led to a bunch of tournaments in new locations this fall. Should be fun

by Anonymousreply 387September 11, 2022 10:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 392September 11, 2022 10:48 PM

100% agree, R390. How many times has he had Ruud on a string, but then Carlos hits to Ruud's forehand, aka his best shot. That goes to my poor shot selection comment.

by Anonymousreply 393September 11, 2022 10:54 PM

Alcaraz cant get the ball in the court much for awhile then like this tiebreak he goes for broke and can't miss a damn shot.

by Anonymousreply 394September 11, 2022 10:58 PM

I'm not one to actually think this kid takes steroids but what he has done this tournament with these really long matches does make you scratch your head. You can be young and super fit but with how long hes played its insane that hasn't affected him at all.

by Anonymousreply 395September 11, 2022 11:01 PM

The thing I love most about Alcaraz besides his relentless athleticism is that despite being only around 6' or 6'1, he hits his shots as hard as anyone. It's important to show that you don't have to be a behemoth to have power. I don't want tennis to turn into basketball player heights. It's good for the game to have a mix of heights. I love that we have Schwartzman and Opelka playing the same game.

Alcaraz gets so much torque it's crazy

by Anonymousreply 396September 11, 2022 11:02 PM

Wow, Ruud reverts to his French Open final form in the tiebreak and Alcaraz runs away with it. Carlos wasn't hitting it as much to his forehand in the breaker. That helped. But Ruud really shit the bed.

[quote] I’m rooting for the white guy!

Well it appears he’s going to lose.

by Anonymousreply 398September 11, 2022 11:05 PM

R392 no replacement Masters. Paris is now the only one this fall. Instead though, Astana Open has been upgraded to 500 level

On the WTA side however, they decided to make Guadalajara a 1000 level after its successful hosting of the YEC finals last year. This year Fort Worth will host

Taylor Townsend was controversially benched by the USTA all the way back in 2012 because she was too fat.

She was the #1 US junior at the time.

She paid her own way into the US Open and never lost the weight. She gained 80 (!) pounds during her pregnancy last year.

by Anonymousreply 408September 11, 2022 11:44 PM

3 straight years now on ATP

new slam winners at USO

Thiem, Medvedev, Alcaraz

by Anonymousreply 409September 11, 2022 11:45 PM

Hooray! Finally an exciting #1 who isn't one of the Big 3! I hope this makes him hungry for more Slams and that he doesn't pull a Thiem and can't handle the pressure. I think he's going to want more. He's such a quality player, too. He needs to work on his shot selection and stop overhitting at times, but he's got everything he needs. I hope he and Sinner will start fighting for titles. You always need a rival to push you to greater heights.

Credit to Jim Courier (aka Cames Jourier on DL) for calling it back during the spring clay court season before Roland Garros. Courier said in the next four Slams, which at the time would have been the 2022 RG, Wimbledon, the US Open, and the 2023 Aus Open, he thought Alcaraz would win his first Slam. Good call by Courier way back in the spring.

Happy for Carlos! Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for Djokovic and Nadal, the last remnants of the Big 3.

this week's schedule:

ATP has Davis Cup

WTA Chennai is 1 of the new events debuting this fall. Chennai is home of the Amritraj family and unsurprisingly, in-law Alison Risk-Amritraj is entered as the top seed. The field is pretty barren, but other notables are Bouchard who needed a WC, another comeback player Wickmayer and hyped youngster Fruhvirtova.

WTA Portoroz features a stronger field Raducanu, credit to her, is getting back to work after a disappointing USO. She is the top seed but will have a lot of trouble winning the title this week. She will play the unpredictable and streaky Yastremska in the first round, with the rapidly rising Mandlik (Mandlikova's daughter) likely after that. Vekic is also in the draw. #2 seed is Haddad Maia. #3 is Wimbledon champ Rybakina. #6 is Cornet, Raducanu's USO conqueror. Lastly #8 is Tomljanovic in the best form of her life. So Raducanu will have to really work if she wants to win in Slovenia.

Shapo is not ugly. He is above average. He's quite young still, who knows what he will look like when he starts losing his hair. Berrettini is dreamy looking, beautiful eyes.

I was checking out Casper's insta page and it seems like he likes to wear white/beige jeans. He isn't ugly and seems like a nice person.

I agree with the poster about Carlos. He has a certain caveman quality about him. I was just telling my partner that lol. He doesn't look very intelligent. I'm sure he's a good kid and very respectful...it could be a facade, who knows? He is acting a certain way because he has an image to maintain. But he is definitely the future.

He won a slam before greek asshole and german asshole.

WTA rankings are out post-USO:

notable changes:

#1 Swiatek has more than double the amount of points as #2 Jabeur, her career high.

Kontaveit somehow only fell to #3 but she has a lot to defend this fall.

Pegula climbs to career high #5

Gauff new career high #8

Garcia returns to the top 10 after several years

Fernandez big hit to her ranking...drops to #40

Raducanu huge fall to #83

Serena is not officially retired and is up to #321 having been outside top 600 before the USO

Ruud is beautiful. His cheekbones are perfection and his eyes change color based on the light but can look like a dark grey. And he has an adorable personality.

Alcaraz has a great bod. I was rooting for him. When he's clean-shaven early in tournaments he looks pretty good but that beard is straggly. His best feature is the huge infectious smile that splits his face. Interestingly, when he's just trying to smile for the cameras, it's not nearly as nice.

Russian features can either be gorgeous (young Dmitrov! yeah I know he's Bulgarian but) or awful and Shapo's, sadly, is the latter. I want to root for my fellow Canadian but facts are facts. He's got the long, bumpy features, somewhat mitigated by youth.

Ugh, I hate when I say something like the above at r433. I would feel awful if Shapo read that, but he's young and rich and probably not haunting a gay bitchery board.

Also, Rublev is kind of adorable, especially when he's all tearful, and he's got great hair. I heard somewhere that Medvedev and Karatsev tease him by calling him Sinner. So mean and also ouch, poor Sinner.

R434, don't worry R434, Shapo ain't gonna be reading anything. He can't even spell canada! lol

by Anonymousreply 436September 12, 2022 4:32 AM

Not true!

I can add, duh

Shapo is better looking than the blond GOATs Borg and Becker, whom people creamed over in their day.

The media is reporting that they've heard that authorities in Australia have decided to overturn Djokovic's visa ban. So he'll be playing the AO next year.

People creamed over Becker? I'm sure a some found him hot, but generally? A young phenom, lots of media attention, but a sex symbol? I don't remember that. I'm honestly asking, not being contrarian.

Also, do you guys remember young girls going crazy for Agassi early on and maybe a period where he was suggested as, if not handsome, then at least "attractive" in that rock star way - the persona, the energy. Which in retrospect I think is funny because he was really sort of a mess.

by Anonymousreply 440September 12, 2022 4:44 AM

How can Pegula be the top-ranked American woman when Coco is the GOAT???

by Anonymousreply 441September 12, 2022 4:47 AM

So mindblowing to think that Becker is in prison as we speak.

by Anonymousreply 442September 12, 2022 5:02 AM

I hear he's very popular in the showers.

by Anonymousreply 443September 12, 2022 1:31 PM

He looks like shit these days though. The sun and booze hasn't been kind.

by Anonymousreply 444September 12, 2022 2:50 PM

yeah, I've seen Becker in person, not pretty.

by Anonymousreply 445September 12, 2022 3:24 PM

Becker was HAF back in the day: a thicc strawberry blond.
