The ATP's dress code should ban dark shorts.

I can’t put my finger on why but I can’t stand Swiatek. Maybe it’s the ugly groundstrokes. Or the weird fist pump. Or the gamesmanship.

I saw him (Salisbury) and Rajeev practice at Indian Wells and ending up talking with his mom. He was shirtless and has a beautiful body. Ram has absolutely huge feet. I was 10 feet off the court, it was great.

Havlickova vs Eala
Baily vs Landaluce.
Eala is from philipines and trains on Rafa Nadal academy. It could be the second year in a row with a spanish champions on boys tournament if Landaluce (who is the younges in the top 10 junior) wins

I'm here for Karen's chest hair poking out of that Nike shirt. God, he's hot.
But Ruud is my boy. Just a lovely guy, and hard working. Watch him win the whole dang thing and be #1. People will go nuts.
And with Federer and Nadal in question for Laver Cup, don't you think Ruud and Alacaraz would be great replacements? And certainly Foe should play for the World, right? Is Isner still injured?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 9, 2022 8:22 PM |
Word on the street is that Federer and Isner will return to the Tour on the same day.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 9, 2022 8:31 PM |

Iga Swiatek immediately regrets ‘disgusting’ US Open reveal during court interview
A bathroom break helped propel Iga Swiatek to a comeback win against No. 6 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the second semifinal at the U.S. Open on Thursday night.
In her post-match interview, the No. 1-ranked player, who used the restroom after the first set, said she felt much “lighter” when she returned to the court. It was a TMI detail Swiatek quickly regretted saying.
“It’s more what I did (in the bathroom),” Swiatek, 21, said about her strong performance after the break between sets. “I kind of needed to go. For sure I felt lighter. Sorry, that’s disgusting.”
The Polish pro indeed looked like a different player after the first set. She defeated Sabalenka 6-1 in the second set and then came back from down 4-2 in the final set to win the match (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).
“I tried to use that time to really try to think about what to change and do it in a good way,” Swiatek said. “I remember earlier when I was younger, all I did in the bathroom between sets when I lost was cry. This time I can actually think about what to change and actually problem solve. I’m pretty glad I did that, because I got a new idea for the second set.”
Swiatek’s win over Sabalenka was a milestone 50th win of her career at a Grand Slam. She is now 50-12 overall at the majors.
Swiatek, a two-time French Open champ, will face No. 5 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in the women’s final on Saturday in Flushing Meadows.

by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 10, 2022 1:50 AM |
R70 Toxic masculinity? You realize that every person he encounters he gives them a hug, right? I don't see how that matches up with being toxic.
He's also considered one of the warmest, and friendliest people on tour.
Can you give some examples?

by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 10, 2022 2:16 AM |
I don’t see the “toxic masculinity” in Frances. He def has swagger and a cocky charm - but I’ve never seen a hint of the anger and violence that so many players exhibit.
He has a sarcastic and deadpan sense of humor and loves performing for the crowd and that’s enjoyable imo…
by Anonymous | reply 81 | September 10, 2022 2:22 AM |

CAN NOT STAND TIAFOE!.... ALL THAT damn mugging! May have come from humble beginnings, but he sure as hell isn't humble or classy...
off topic, but why at the u.s. open are the cameras CONSTANTLY showing "celebrities" in the audience? I've never known of any major sporting event that is forever doing this? WHY? Is it to show how cool and important the u.s. open and in particular Tennis is?...
by Anonymous | reply 91 | September 10, 2022 3:10 AM |

R96... I don't know it just seems like at the U.S. open they do it more than other sports, nauseatingly so....
Alcaraz should have simply nailed the ball down the line on his match point instead of being "too cutesy" with that drop shot. match should already be over... Also he didn't need to go for the lines in that 4th set tiebreaker either....

Tiafoe is so likeable how can you not root for him?
by Anonymous | reply 104 | September 10, 2022 3:34 AM |
I can't imagine how unbeatable Alcaraz is going to be by the time he's 21-22. He's so close now to being impossible. He's got the speed, power off all wings, touch, fitness/endurance...the only thing is sometimes he has a couple of loose moments but that's normal especially for a teenager
by Anonymous | reply 105 | September 10, 2022 3:34 AM |
If he stays healthy and just keeps improving Alcaraz will be scary good by his mid 20s.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | September 10, 2022 3:37 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 107 | September 10, 2022 3:48 AM |
Alcaraz (Garfia) in the final.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | September 10, 2022 3:56 AM |
Alcaraz is just a warrior. He refuses to lose. I really hope he wins the title. His path to the final has had much tougher opponents than Ruud who got lucky with all the upsets.
Tiafoe played the tournament of his life. If he can keep this form up he should be able to win more titles and be a contender at the other slams/masters.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | September 10, 2022 3:56 AM |
I just hope Alcarez doesn't become a diva. There's no denying he's very talented but he needs to remain humble.

Ruud is solid but his overall game isn't super impressive. Lots of action on that forehand and decent first serve for his size but the overly spinny backhand is a big no. Alcaraz should tear that side up on him
by Anonymous | reply 118 | September 10, 2022 4:07 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 121 | September 10, 2022 4:10 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 122 | September 10, 2022 4:14 AM |
R118 I'm sure that's the plan. To attack the backhand

by Anonymous | reply 129 | September 10, 2022 5:44 AM |
R118 and R123 Ruud's backhand has improved so much though. It was a liability just last year. This year it's actually become a weapon. Sure, his forehand is still better, but it's like that for most players.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | September 10, 2022 5:48 AM |
R119 and R128 I love Ferrero! He is so sweet and talented. And yes, hot🤤 Ferrero and Alcaraz have the the sweetest relationship. They seem very close.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | September 10, 2022 5:50 AM |
Ruud has very compact swings. I'd never noticed them before. He has a lovely game. A little safe but he is a very smart tennis player.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | September 10, 2022 5:52 AM |
R90 Same can be said for Ruud. He's probably one of the fittest players on the tour. He can run down all the balls and never seem to get tired. I'd say he's better in best of 5 matches because he wears down his opponents until they get tired.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | September 10, 2022 5:53 AM |
[quote] Ferrero and Alcaraz have the the sweetest relationship. They seem very close.
I think it was during the French Open that they should a video of Ferrero arriving at the hotel where Carlitos was staying, and he literally jumped up and down with a wide smile when he arrived. Just like a kid.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | September 10, 2022 5:54 AM |
R133 I agree. Deceiving speed and he never seems over tired.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | September 10, 2022 5:57 AM |
The DL's own Tommy Paul actually has given Ruud his toughest test. There's no good reason why that match couldn't have been played shirtless. They both have rocking bodies.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | September 10, 2022 6:01 AM |
I'm scared for the final. I really want Ruud to win. It would mean so much to Norwegians everywhere. What he has done is simply out of this world. It's huge for this little country. We are usually only good in winter sports. Just imagining having a grand slam winner is unreal. I just fear we are so close but Alcaraz will end up winning in the end😭 Really hope I'm wrong though.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | September 10, 2022 6:02 AM |
Alcaraz’s fist-pumping after literally every point he wins is so annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | September 10, 2022 6:03 AM |
If Tiafoe was Ruud's opponent in the final I'd give Ruud a 70-80 % chance of winning. Tiafoe is a good match-up for him. Alcaraz is the exact opposite. He's the worst match-up. I don't think Ruud has the game to beat him.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | September 10, 2022 6:04 AM |

Ruud will have a lot of work to do to prove himself as a convincing #1 or #2 player. His record right now against the top 30 isn't impressive at all. He only owns Cilic, Shapovalov and Opelka.
Alcaraz at a young age already has so many top player wins. He hasn't played everyone yet but most top guys he's faced more than once, he's got at least 1 win over.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | September 10, 2022 8:45 AM |
R142 Yes, but I mean before them. Now we have Ingebritsen and Warholm in track and field, Hovland in golf, Haaland in soccer and Ruud in tennis. How in the hell did Ruud just a couple of weeks ago lose handily 3 and 3 to recent NCAA champion Shelton? and Now is in the finals of the U.S. open?...
that loss was BEYOND embarrassing..top 5 player losing easily to a college player??

R141 Glad someone else sees it.
Kid did two back to back 5 setter 5 hour marathons, losing two tiebreaks, hitting like a ball basher all the times and still looking energetic, fresh and in full recovery like a mountain flower, all of this at 19 with his body not even fully developed for such harsh fights. I've never seen a player so obviously on doping. The tests on ATP tour are a joke.

Don't underestimate Ruud. He can totally win this thing. Unbelievably solid, consistent. Alcaraz is flashier, true, and goes in as the favorite (+ media hype), but Ruud will be right in it.

by Anonymous | reply 157 | September 10, 2022 3:25 PM |
Ruud played really solid yesterday.
I wasn't on DL for Tiafoe-Alcaraz. Alcaraz was the better player who was sloppy at times. Fifth five-set win; kudos!
I was impressed with Tiafoe for one big reason - he kept his head about him when he was completely lost in the woods and getting destroyed for that 11-12 game stretch. Former Big Foe would have gone into crowd pleasing mode with trick shots and lots of engagement. But, he really kept on grinding, even though his confidence was probably shot and found his way back into the fourth set - and then unbelievably won it with some some Alcaraz mistakes and timely good play/shots by Tiafoe. He can feel a lot better than if he would have lost 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2, letting Alacaraz sprint to the finish.
Alcaraz is such a talent, but he can get streaky. And Ruud is the picture of consistency and has beefed up his game a little. Alcaraz has won their only two matches, not that I'm sure that matters in this situation. But anyway, I'm excited for the final.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | September 10, 2022 3:28 PM |
Whoops, I meant "third five-set win."
by Anonymous | reply 159 | September 10, 2022 3:33 PM |
Well, our little DL conspiracy theorists. Alcaraz came off court and had to give a pee sample. So he’s going to be caught, right?
by Anonymous | reply 160 | September 10, 2022 4:59 PM |
R160, most athletes who dope can pass drug tests, because of drug cycling. That means that the drugs are used between competitions to allow the athlete to build muscle and practice harder. The athlete is then tapered off the drugs. The hapless Russian figure skater who was caught recently simply hadn’t cleared the drugs from her system quickly enough.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | September 10, 2022 5:17 PM |
R161, tennis players are regularly tested outside of competition time, with surprise visits from the testers. Remember when Serena hid in her panic room to get away from the tester? The same happens in other sports too, e.g. Lance Armstrong trying to pretend the Tour de France officials were deliberately harassing him when he had a surprise visit from testers.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | September 10, 2022 5:51 PM |
R162, there are no more “surprise visits” for tennis players.

R201 I was thinking that if Swiatek can win the US Open, why can't Barty? She just needed the right draw, a bit of luck. She should have kept playing. It was a shock that she retired. Maybe she could just have taken more time off in between slams if that was the issue.

by Anonymous | reply 219 | September 10, 2022 10:47 PM |
I'm glad that Swiatek has embraced her #1 role. There was concern when Barty retired that Swiatek would crack under pressure but she hasn't. Next question will be how she handles trying to defend everything next year. 3 slams on 2 different surfaces is a good start so far
I think Jabeur will have more chances to get a slam in the next 2 years. She's late 20s so she needs to capitalize on everything now.

Swiatek did what most recent number 1 were unable to do, really show she is a number one and dominate.
I love Barty's game, but her numbers are extremely overrated. She was basically number one a whole year without playing a single match due the pandemic.
I like Ruud and i wouldn't mind if he wins, but he will be the weakest number one ever. He is a solid player but his numbers against top players are bad.
Both junior winners train on Rafa Nadal Academy. Landaluce is the second spanish player in a row to win the US Open, and the first 16 yo since Rune and Mochizuki won RG and Wimbledon three years ago

R242 so barty wasnt real no 1 because of pandemic, but swiatek is real no 1 with same weak competitors? Barty has less titles because she didnt care and didnt play so much. And I think top 10 now is even worse than 3 years ago
by Anonymous | reply 244 | September 11, 2022 12:00 PM |
I talk about level of play. Barty was so much better, entertaining competitor. And swiatek got no 1 for free, she didnt beat Barty , she took her place.

R243 Taylor Reid Jenkins seems to like tennis, two of the characters of Malibu rising were tennis players (i think they were losely inspired on Connors and Evert)
by Anonymous | reply 246 | September 11, 2022 12:18 PM |
R244 Who said that?
Barty was a real number one, but her number of weeks at number one was not remotely close to the domination she had. She ended the year as number one three times, the same as Seles and Hingis and she is not remotely in that league.
Anyway this discussion is pointless because she retired because she wanted. She was not injured or old.
Everybody expected Swiatek to crumble under the pressure but she rose to the challenge. She completely dominated the clay season (she is the best clay courter since Justine Henin) and now won the US Open. She won two GS on the same season (something Barty never did)
by Anonymous | reply 247 | September 11, 2022 12:22 PM |
R247 Iga swiatek said she had deserved her no 1 because she won IW and Miami. Barty could have stayed and swiatek would still won? WE DONT KNOW THAT. Maybe she wouldnt.I d love to see iga beating Barty in USA or later during clay season. But she did NEVER beat no1. Even this year
by Anonymous | reply 248 | September 11, 2022 12:27 PM |

That was the most boring final ever on us open..There is so much subtle gamesmanship going on with Iga. Delaying Ons serve, changing rackets between points, going to her chair when it isn't a change of ends. She is s cheater. Is that her trick? She will not be liked if she keeps doing it.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | September 11, 2022 2:21 PM |
R251 I noticed those things too. They are small but almost no other player does them as much as her. Little tactics here and there. Tennis is about momentum and I guess she smartly tries to alter it with her stalls of time.

by Anonymous | reply 269 | September 11, 2022 2:58 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 270 | September 11, 2022 3:01 PM |
I honestly think it's silly that women get paid as much as men for doing less. Iga won in 2 sets with only the second set being competitive. A point here or there and it wouldve gone 3. Not her fault Ons couldn't bring it. However if today's match is fairly competitive it will at least go 4 and they don't earn more than her? Bullshit.

the only way Ruud will beat Alcaraz is if Alcaraz is injured, tired or chokes.

Ruud has had some great draws this year. He's solid but does not have a dominating game

You have a point. In the grand scheme of things, 30lbs is nothing for an elite athlete to lose. You can lose 30lbs in a month on a strict, regimented diet. I'm sure there are tons of nutritionalists/trainers who can help her easily get there.

There's no Slam - the biggest level tournament - until the Australian Open in January.

100% agree, R390. How many times has he had Ruud on a string, but then Carlos hits to Ruud's forehand, aka his best shot. That goes to my poor shot selection comment.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | September 11, 2022 10:54 PM |

I'm not one to actually think this kid takes steroids but what he has done this tournament with these really long matches does make you scratch your head. You can be young and super fit but with how long hes played its insane that hasn't affected him at all.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | September 11, 2022 11:01 PM |
The thing I love most about Alcaraz besides his relentless athleticism is that despite being only around 6' or 6'1, he hits his shots as hard as anyone. It's important to show that you don't have to be a behemoth to have power. I don't want tennis to turn into basketball player heights. It's good for the game to have a mix of heights. I love that we have Schwartzman and Opelka playing the same game.
Alcaraz gets so much torque it's crazy
by Anonymous | reply 396 | September 11, 2022 11:02 PM |
Wow, Ruud reverts to his French Open final form in the tiebreak and Alcaraz runs away with it. Carlos wasn't hitting it as much to his forehand in the breaker. That helped. But Ruud really shit the bed.

new slam winners at USO
Thiem, Medvedev, Alcaraz
by Anonymous | reply 409 | September 11, 2022 11:45 PM |
Hooray! Finally an exciting #1 who isn't one of the Big 3! I hope this makes him hungry for more Slams and that he doesn't pull a Thiem and can't handle the pressure. I think he's going to want more. He's such a quality player, too. He needs to work on his shot selection and stop overhitting at times, but he's got everything he needs. I hope he and Sinner will start fighting for titles. You always need a rival to push you to greater heights.
Credit to Jim Courier (aka Cames Jourier on DL) for calling it back during the spring clay court season before Roland Garros. Courier said in the next four Slams, which at the time would have been the 2022 RG, Wimbledon, the US Open, and the 2023 Aus Open, he thought Alcaraz would win his first Slam. Good call by Courier way back in the spring.
Happy for Carlos! Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for Djokovic and Nadal, the last remnants of the Big 3.

by Anonymous | reply 417 | September 11, 2022 11:58 PM |
I'd rather have Alacaraz and Ruud and others win them. Sinner, ugh. Though it's probably inevitable that he'll win a few at some point. He's that good.

A win for the dermally-challenged everywhere!

That Ruud boy is GAW-JUS!
Lovely facial features.

IF you saw the shots to his box, it's understandable. The whole family looks great - dad, mom, sisters, grandma. And the older women have aged really well.
by Anonymous | reply 421 | September 12, 2022 2:41 AM |
I'll take a shot to his box anytime.

Ruud is cute, not gorgeous, not pretty, not beautiful or handsome. He also looks much better on court rather than off.
by Anonymous | reply 423 | September 12, 2022 3:24 AM |
Ruud is cute and pretty.
Tsisipas - Gorgeous/beautiful
Berrettini, Shapovalov - Handsome
None of them can surpass a young Pete Sampras, who was everything all at once for a few years.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | September 12, 2022 3:38 AM |
Pete? Lol.
by Anonymous | reply 425 | September 12, 2022 3:50 AM |
You would have to be Helen Keller to imagine that Shapo is handsome, much less In the same league as Berrettini
by Anonymous | reply 426 | September 12, 2022 4:00 AM |
Berrettini looks better, IMO, but neither is all that great.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | September 12, 2022 4:09 AM |
Shapovalov has a lovely jawline. He is handsome.

this week's schedule:
ATP has Davis Cup
WTA Chennai is 1 of the new events debuting this fall. Chennai is home of the Amritraj family and unsurprisingly, in-law Alison Risk-Amritraj is entered as the top seed. The field is pretty barren, but other notables are Bouchard who needed a WC, another comeback player Wickmayer and hyped youngster Fruhvirtova.
WTA Portoroz features a stronger field Raducanu, credit to her, is getting back to work after a disappointing USO. She is the top seed but will have a lot of trouble winning the title this week. She will play the unpredictable and streaky Yastremska in the first round, with the rapidly rising Mandlik (Mandlikova's daughter) likely after that. Vekic is also in the draw. #2 seed is Haddad Maia. #3 is Wimbledon champ Rybakina. #6 is Cornet, Raducanu's USO conqueror. Lastly #8 is Tomljanovic in the best form of her life. So Raducanu will have to really work if she wants to win in Slovenia.

Shapo is not ugly. He is above average. He's quite young still, who knows what he will look like when he starts losing his hair. Berrettini is dreamy looking, beautiful eyes.
I was checking out Casper's insta page and it seems like he likes to wear white/beige jeans. He isn't ugly and seems like a nice person.

I agree with the poster about Carlos. He has a certain caveman quality about him. I was just telling my partner that lol. He doesn't look very intelligent. I'm sure he's a good kid and very respectful...it could be a facade, who knows? He is acting a certain way because he has an image to maintain. But he is definitely the future.
He won a slam before greek asshole and german asshole.

WTA rankings are out post-USO:
notable changes:
#1 Swiatek has more than double the amount of points as #2 Jabeur, her career high.
Kontaveit somehow only fell to #3 but she has a lot to defend this fall.
Pegula climbs to career high #5
Gauff new career high #8
Garcia returns to the top 10 after several years
Fernandez big hit to her ranking...drops to #40
Raducanu huge fall to #83
Serena is not officially retired and is up to #321 having been outside top 600 before the USO

Ruud is beautiful. His cheekbones are perfection and his eyes change color based on the light but can look like a dark grey. And he has an adorable personality.
Alcaraz has a great bod. I was rooting for him. When he's clean-shaven early in tournaments he looks pretty good but that beard is straggly. His best feature is the huge infectious smile that splits his face. Interestingly, when he's just trying to smile for the cameras, it's not nearly as nice.
Russian features can either be gorgeous (young Dmitrov! yeah I know he's Bulgarian but) or awful and Shapo's, sadly, is the latter. I want to root for my fellow Canadian but facts are facts. He's got the long, bumpy features, somewhat mitigated by youth.

Ugh, I hate when I say something like the above at r433. I would feel awful if Shapo read that, but he's young and rich and probably not haunting a gay bitchery board.

Also, Rublev is kind of adorable, especially when he's all tearful, and he's got great hair. I heard somewhere that Medvedev and Karatsev tease him by calling him Sinner. So mean and also ouch, poor Sinner.

R434, don't worry R434, Shapo ain't gonna be reading anything. He can't even spell canada! lol
by Anonymous | reply 436 | September 12, 2022 4:32 AM |
Not true!
I can add, duh
by Anonymous | reply 437 | September 12, 2022 4:34 AM |
Shapo is better looking than the blond GOATs Borg and Becker, whom people creamed over in their day.

The media is reporting that they've heard that authorities in Australia have decided to overturn Djokovic's visa ban. So he'll be playing the AO next year.
by Anonymous | reply 439 | September 12, 2022 4:40 AM |
People creamed over Becker? I'm sure a some found him hot, but generally? A young phenom, lots of media attention, but a sex symbol? I don't remember that. I'm honestly asking, not being contrarian.
Also, do you guys remember young girls going crazy for Agassi early on and maybe a period where he was suggested as, if not handsome, then at least "attractive" in that rock star way - the persona, the energy. Which in retrospect I think is funny because he was really sort of a mess.

How can Pegula be the top-ranked American woman when Coco is the GOAT???
by Anonymous | reply 441 | September 12, 2022 4:47 AM |
So mindblowing to think that Becker is in prison as we speak.
by Anonymous | reply 442 | September 12, 2022 5:02 AM |
I hear he's very popular in the showers.
by Anonymous | reply 443 | September 12, 2022 1:31 PM |
He looks like shit these days though. The sun and booze hasn't been kind.
by Anonymous | reply 444 | September 12, 2022 2:50 PM |
yeah, I've seen Becker in person, not pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | September 12, 2022 3:24 PM |
Becker was HAF back in the day: a thicc strawberry blond.
