by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 8, 2022 5:46 PM |
I had the interesting experience of working as assistant to one of the editors (yes, there are more than one) of the HQ release "Finding Freedom". I thought you guys - especially the Crown sympathizers - might like to know that while the British Royal Family does occasionally come across rather poorly in the book, there were also definitely bits that, while verified to be true by numerous sources, were in the end kept from the finished draft. This was done mostly at the behest of one of our senior editors, who in addition to being quite old is also conservative.
For instance, it was left out that one of the main reasons Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the U.K. is the noxious stench that fires from QEII's practically decomposing cunt. There is absolutely no way to remove it (the smell) from any room she's entered. This is one reason Miss Markle wanted to use air fresheners in St. George's Chapel at Windsor the day of her wedding. The Prince had warned Markle what it was like to live with this fetid, all-pervading stink but she had no idea it could be so bad. Ultimately, she felt it was best to raise her child away from the toxic reek, which court doctors still do not understand.
Anyway, ask me any questions if you like. My contract with the publisher's up.

Iām not a fan of the monarchy but itās definitely the end of an era. Growing up in Canada sheās been such a huge part of everyday life. Her face is everywhere. Now would be a good time to do away with the royal family.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 8, 2022 5:51 PM |
R41 One doesn't have to be a monarchist for what? For it to be a sad day? I am interested and attuned to history, but it's not a sad day for me because the Queen of England died. I figure it is for the many Queen-lovers here, though.

[quote]The Widowhood Effect is the increase in the probability of a person dying during a relatively short period of time after their long-time spouse has died. The pattern indicates a sharp increase in risk of death for the widower particularly, but not exclusively, in the three months after the death of their spouse.
She lasted longer than the odds would have otherwise predicted.

As I type Queen Margrethe, who is celebrating her 50th anniversary on the Danish throne this week, is spilling cigarette ashes and screaming up and down the corridors of the palace at Marselisborg.
[quote]On 10 September, the Queen and the royal family will appear on the balcony at Christian IX's Palace at Amalienborg, following the changing of the guard at noon, where large crowds of well-wishers are expected to gather to cheer her. Margrethe will take part in a carriage procession to Copenhagen City Hall for an official lunch and another balcony appearance. The Queen will attend a gala performance in her honour at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.
[quote]On 11 September, Queen Margrethe will attend a special thanksgiving service at Church of Our Lady ā Copenhagen Cathedral. At midday, a luncheon will be held on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog. Harry and Meghan basically abused her toward the end of her life, all merely in order to drum up interest in them and make money. by Anonymous | reply 194 | September 8, 2022 8:02 PM |
How utterly wonderfully symbolic is Harry arriving after the Queen's death is announced. Always missing the mark, Harry.
Several questions emerge around the Sussexes: will they return to using their HRHs now that the person who told them they couldn't is dead?
Harry is now 5th in line, his children (now HRHs themselves), his children 6th and 7th. Will this bring Harry's efforts in his court case any benefits?
Will the family go on grey-rocking him?
And how uncannily scaring the comment yesterday that with the Harkles' luck, HM would die the next day and spoil their WellChild event!
The funeral is ten days from now. One expects that Meghan will have to fly home to be with the children, leaving Harry to do the funereal honours.
William and Kate are now TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall AND Cambridge, and William is now heir to the revenues of the Duchy of Cornwall.
Has anyone heard from Omid Scabies today?

Prince William will become Prince of Wales after the coronation, pending a ceremony at a fancy old castle in Wales.
The Dukedom of Edinburgh is set to be bestowed on Prince Edward.
Charlotte won't automatically become Princess Royal after Anne dies. They don't always use the title. Anne was in her thirties when she was given the title, and is still typically known as Princess Anne.

Who do you think Omid Scobie got those orders and the narrative from? Paddington Bear?
Harry and Meghan have poisoned the Queen's last couple of years of life, thoughtlessly, deliberately, cynically, and cruelly.
They are part of this narrative because that narrative begs the question of how the family is going to handle them now that the Queen's restraining hand is gone.

My sister from Texas texted me, "Our Auntie Elizabeth made her transition. Nicely done; RIP queen! I was just at the grocery store thinking another one ascends to the "earbob" section of the pearly gates."

If William doesn't want to be in the same room with Harry today, I'd hardly call that petty.
Harry and his wife have been attacking William, Kate, Charles, and the Queen for two years. And as recently as last night.
The fact that they let Harry through the gates of Balmoral is remarkable.

R298, I noticed the superscript / smaller-sized font for the "8th of September" part. That's actually more modern in that Microsoft Word does that, automatically. I turned my automatic stuff off for MS Word because I prefer to not have the superscript and small-size font.
But what's wrong with Times Roman?

R300 Times Roman has been updated to Times New Roman which is thinner and has less embellishments or tails on some letters. Even so, a more modern looking serif font would be Didot, which is very clean.

Who knows why Harry was late, but in my feverish imagination he had a big meltdown over the whole situation and Meghan had to calm his hysterical ass down. One thingās for sure, he should have made a beeline to Balmoral as soon as they landed in the UK the other day.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | September 8, 2022 10:58 PM |
Bone cancer.
That's why Harry made such a shit-fuss about making sure "she had the right people around her," and almost gave the privacy of the queen away in an ego move. Among all the family's reactions to the news of her illness, his was the only one that said, "IMPOSSIBLE! I'LL SAVE HER!"
She was receiving treatments but it progressed quickly, or seemed to, as in older patients the pains can be considered arthritis or discomfort of age. It is possible that this type of osteosarcoma disadvantaged a failing immune system. The COVID and the strain of family and national work also were understood to have played a role, but her demeanor was upbeat and her mind clear. The surprising smiles and engagement with people showed a resolve to enjoy every minute, or seem to. She went to Balmoral for maximum privacy and it was the season.

The Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields, 68, stayed with the Queen at Balmoral after being invited to perform a sermon at Braemar and Crathie Parish Church, the church where Her Majesty worshipped while at the castle in Scotland.
Greenshields, a Kirk minister and moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, had dinner on Saturday evening and lunch on Sunday afternoon with the Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal. He told The Times: āIt was a fantastic visit. Her memory was absolutely amazing and she was really full of fun.
āIt came as a great shock to me when I heard she was gravely ill because she was in amazingly good form over the weekend.
āShe was the life and soul of things. She was speaking very personally to me about her time there way back when she was a child, she was talking about her horses from the past, naming them from 40 years ago, peopleās names and places. She was quite remarkable.
vāWe were talking about Ukraine and the situation there and her sadness at what she was seeing happening.
āShe was talking about church affairs, she was very apprised of everything going on in the Church of Scotland, which would put a lot of our members to shame, she probably knew a lot more than the average member. It was only a few days ago, I canāt believe it.ā

The previous weekend, the Very Rev Dr Martin Fair, 58, who has been minister at Arbroath St Andrews for 30 years, stayed as her guest at Balmoral.
He said: āI found her to be bright and in very good spirits, so I was sad to hear the announcement about her deterioration. We were in her sitting room and in the dining room as part of a family gathering ā it was a privilege to be part of it.
āShe was absolutely switched on about everything, current affairs and historical memories. She was on very good form.

R423 Well said.

No one should underestimate the hold the monarchy still has on Britain, and why the Windsors continue. And, Charles has behind him now an extremely popular relatively youthful and hugely popular Prince and Princess of Wales with a very attractive young family.
Harry and Meghan got it so wrong, that it beggars description. They could have been part of all this, as well as their children.

When most people seem to care, what guides you to believe the fact you don't really matters to anybody? What makes you think suddenly you have the capacity to influence anything, considering your track record to date?

Shame on Della and anyone else gleefully twisting Charlesā words to make it seem like he took an opportunity to take a passive aggressive snipe at his youngest son. Here is what Charles said VERBATIM. Note that he referred to both of his children and daughters-in-law by their first names. However, he also made it a point to identify William and Catherineās automatically designated new titles.
[quote]As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me. He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades. Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given. r439, I stand by my post at r436.
Yes, he called William and Catherine William and Catherine.
What's significant is that it was in the context of announcing William's new titles.
He immediately refers afterwards to another son; a son and daughter in-law that also have a style- Duke and Duchess, but instead of referring to them with that style, he calls them "Harry and Meghan".

[quote] Is it now the House of Mountbatten-Windsor?
There were agreements worked out that it is supposed to be before the Queen died, but Charles as the King is now free to do whatever he likes (he need not abide by his mother's ishes). What usually happens is that a queen regnant is the last of a dynasty (unless her sister takes over from her), and the person who succeeds her represents a new dynastic name: so Elizabeth I was the last of the House of Tudor, and Anne was the last of the House of Stuart, and Victoria was the last of Hanover. Charles could decide he wants to start a new dynasty named after his father's family and be the House of Mountbatten; but technically the agreement put in place now is for him to be the start of the house of Windsor-Mountbatten, which is a continuation of the last dynasty.

I will say, having just watched it, that I detected no shading of the Sussex's. Indeed, his mention of them was quite a bit warmer than I expected.
Who gets to christen Cunard's new MS Queen Anne, I wonder. Lilibet did the Queen Mary and current Queen Elizabeth (at the time, the president of Cunard observed that she was the only person there who'd been present for the christening of all of Cunard's ships of that name, having been there when her mother did the first, and then doing the QEII herself), and Camilla did the Queen Victoria. I mean, I guess it defaults to Camilla, but they should consider letting Kate do it.

Charlesās mention of Harry and Meghan was perfect. They canāt claim they werenāt acknowledged. They canāt claim it wasnāt warm, at least on the surface. But it was a statement of fact that they have a new life in America and thatās that.

^As the new King just sent a pointed message to the public about Harry and Meghan, they are fair game on this thread.
Charles made his family situation clear to the press and public: no, he will not try to bring Harry and Meghzn back, as rumours have suggested; they are te out, and out for good. Charles sugar-coated it with what I am sure was sincere-ish fatherly love as far as Harry goes, and by doing so, endures that if the two go on trashing the King his wife, and his brother, it will be the Sussexes who will look bad.
He conferred new stardom on William and Kate, making his little addendum about the Sussexes sound like a P.S., which it was. He's left them their worthless titles, their kids are HRHs - so they can't bitch that they were pumished unfairly.
But those symbold mean something BIG in Britain, far less in America.
It's on a par with his mother's "recollections may vary".
The old dog was capable of learning new tricks from Mum. This is the same man who wanted to issue a point by point rebuttal after the Oprah interview, but was restrained by the Queen.
Anyone who thinks that the Sussexes were anything but, at a minimum, bitter hearing this, is naive. I'm sure they were livid about the comparison with William and Kate, especially given that Charles' little by-the-by to them was tacked onto the far bigger news of Charles creating William Prince of Wales immediately.
No one in the family or the court or the government would miss the coded message.
The week that the Sussexes had counted on to up their status and celebrity glitter has, instead, been ruinous for them.
They never see the next move coming.
I wonder what Netflix is thinking.

They also have their Norfolk bolthole, and now Adelaide House at Windsor for them main pad as they kids are going to school there now during the week.
Charles has said previously he'd move into BP once he's King, and evacuate Clarence House. CH will now become offices perhaps, until such time as Prince George perhaps want so use it as his residence years from now. Or more likely, a place for a widowed Queen Camilla to live our her days after CIII's passing. These spots can be converted back and forth from living quarters to offices easily.

R436 Love the rhetorical stiletto bit, Della.
And leave us not forget the significance of "rebuild their lives overseas" to Harry's court case against the UK government to get Judicial Review of the Home Office's decisions on his security when "visiting" Britain.
I want a tee-shirt with Recollections May Vary on the front - a tote bag would be even better. Anyone seen them out there?
Further wondering if Charles, in wielding that stiletto this afternoon, was hoping to persuade both Sussexes to skip the funeral, the way they skipped the rest of the Jubly - or at least, Meghan.
Why the fuck she'd show her face there with egg on her face there after this week's shambolic showing and Charles' Fare Thee Well, with every single person in the Abbey grinning privately, is beyond me.
Everyone screamed the Queen should take the titles, Charles should take the titles . . . but the two suavely went one better: they left the Sussexes with titles that are increasingly worthless in America, tattered window dressing instead of Proof of Significance. And wait till the new Prince and Princess of Wales visit America.
I suppose if Harry gets mean enough in the memoir, there's always the Line of Succession avenue.

R486 Kensington Palace remains their LONDON HOME.
They did not MOVE OUT of it. They took a school year place nearer to the Queen, their kids' school, and her family. Adelaide Cottage wasn't renovated or built for them. It was move in ready.
They probably knew the Queen wasn't going to last much longer and with Charles and Camilla now officially at BP and Clarence House, they could cover the base at Windsor.
The understanding wasn't that KP would be their home for the rest of their lives. It was until such time as Charles acceded to the throne and/or William did, making other arrangements necessary.

Sorry, but after thinking this through a bit more, I am not siding with Della's perspective.
Why should Charles elaborate further on Harry & Meghan, when he, as a father, is clearly disappointed that his own youngest son has estranged himself, and continues to do so? Wouldn't ANY father take the same tack? This is like me being pissed that my family forgot to send me a fake invite to a summer BBQ where everyone still lives back home, when I'd clearly stated I was not coming back home that summer. Such 'ceremony' craved to be read by folks now thinking this was 'deep shade' is not appropriate and not in the Royal custom either.
As has been stated, new titles weren't being bestowed upon the Sussexes, so mentioning their existing titles all over again would sound pointless and very forced. Throwing out a "you're always welcome back here at Buckingham" would be criticized for being disingenuous, and ACTUALLY shady. He said he loved them, and wishes them well in their new life 'abroad', which connotes adventures, travels and essentially positive things, but a clear fatherly tone that he wished they would come home, but accepts their decision. It was very well stated.
Outside of that, a father is not expected to pretend he isn't disappointed when their kids move 10,000 miles away, not even the King. So yeah, some basic Dad vibes is all there is to it. I don't blame him one bit.

The TIMES:
As a princess, the future Queen would often slip unnoticed into the stalls of a West End theatre to watch a play. Things naturally became more difficult after her accession but The Stage optimistically told readers in 1952 that if the Queen wished to pay an informal visit to a theatre London playgoers should pretend not to notice and allow her an evening off. She once told FranƧois Hollande, the French president, that as a girl she had wanted to be an actress (this was eight years before her double-act with Paddington). Hollande suggested that in a way she already was. āYes,ā the Queen conceded. āBut always the same role.ā
The Queen met many actors, several of whom have played her. One of the most memorable was Prunella Scales, in A Question of Attribution, Alan Bennettās play about Anthony Blunt, the Surveyor of the Queenās Pictures and Russian spy. The women met afterwards and Scales gave a curtsy. āI expect you think I should be doing that to you,ā the Queen said.
Sometimes Her Majesty had to pull rank on Another Majesty. At a concert in 1982 to mark the centenary of the Royal College of Music, the Queen Mother was heard to hiss āWho do you think you are?ā as her daughter elbowed her way past to take the plum seat. āThe Queen, Mummy, the Queen,ā her daughter replied pointedly.
The Queenās first prime minister was born 101 years before her last. Reflecting on her longevity for an American audience, the academic Matt Glassman pointed out that she had reigned for almost 30 per cent of US history. āThe Brits think 100 miles is a long distance,ā he said. āAmericans think 100 years is a long time.ā Our American friends, though fond of the monarchy, donāt always get it. At a reception in Washington after the war, President Truman introduced Princess Elizabeth to his mother-in-law, who told the future Queen: āIām so glad your father was re-elected.ā

I've been wanting to mention, in case no one else mentioned it, but a BBC newscaster stated on yesterday that Charles the II was the Queen's forebear. She is not descended from Charles II. He had no legitimate children. She is descended from Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of James I and aunt of Charles II. Please correct me if there was any provable illegitimate descent directly from him to her.

I believe you're correct, R513āElizabeth was not directly descended from any of Charles II offspring.
However, four of her grandchildren are: William and Harry (through their mother) from both Henry FitzRoy and Charles Lennox, and the two York girls (again through their mother) from Charles Lennox, Anne Lennard, and the Duke of Monmouth.

Lady Colin explained there is a news black-out of sorts that prevents the public from learning about all that's going on behind the scenes.
For instance, no photographers following the queen's body to the mortuary where she's been enbalmed, no photos of the arrival of her coffin, etc.
One would think the foreign press could give a flip, but so far nothing.

The Accession Council looks a bit like one of those occasions where the royals go home and laugh after about the things that go wrong.
There's this outsized document to be signed and two copies, on a table too small for both copies and the fountain pens and the inkwells and Charles, Camilla and William, signing, are all grimacing and trying to figure out how to write around the inkwells. It's awkward and comic. The kind of thing the Queen was said to love.
