CNN's first anchor....DEAD!
I knew Bernard Shaw. I thought he’d died in 1950.

That's sad. I liked the guy. A pioneer African American journalist.

His death is about to be majorly overshadowed by news out of Balmoral.

What a day for deaths. David Arnold the comedian has died, as did Anne Garrels of NPR. And, for pet lovers, crazy cat Thurston Waffles also died.

I loved Bernie Shaw as a newscaster! Sorry to hear this

He got out of CNN while the gettin' was good. It hasn't had any class since he left.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 8, 2022 2:22 PM |
Honestly, I thought he died a long time ago.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 8, 2022 3:37 PM |
Thank goodness Bernie lived long enough to see them start flushing out the sewer CNN had become. I'm certain he went to the Great Broadcast Booth in the Sky with a smile.

My biggest memory of Bernie was when He, John Holliman and Peter Arnett were in a Baghdad Hotel in '91 when Shock & Awe started. John was a pro. Arnett was literally hanging out the window reporting. I loved Bernie because he sounded like he was under a table reporting. You could hear the nervousness in his voice. He was real in that moment just like most of us would have been in that situation.

First they fired Brian Stetler. Then they fired John Harwood. Now they kill Bernard Shaw. What's going on over there?

I didn’t realize that My Fair Lady had been written by a black man.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 8, 2022 4:43 PM |
Awww, that’s a shame. I loved his plays.

Sucks to be you, Bernie
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 8, 2022 5:57 PM |
It's too bad he died of pneumonia that wasn't covid related?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 8, 2022 6:01 PM |
He’s the new Farrah Fawcett of the obituary world.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 8, 2022 6:01 PM |
He had such sensitive eyes, I really admire him. The first time I ever saw CNN he was there. I feel like he’s hanging out with qe2 right now in a better place

That was my second thought after learning of Mr. Shaw's death, R13.
Rest in Peace, Bernard Shaw.

Quaint.

It wasn't!

I'd imagine that, like Farrah Fawcett, Bernie will regret the timing of his death the rest of his life.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 8, 2022 10:05 PM |
He was loverly

I thought he died back in the late 80s from AIDS. Who the hell am I thinking of?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 8, 2022 10:22 PM |
That's right.

How did Max Robinson get AIDS? Was he a hemophiliac?

R10, they want to be more centerist. Guys who got sacked were too far Left,

He was a creep. He’s the shithead who asked Dukakis about his wife being raped and murdered. Even GHW Bush commented on what a tacky question it was.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 9, 2022 1:26 AM |
I like him but I thought that question to Dukakis was so damn unfair. Granted Dukakis didn't handle it well but it was a question that should never have been asked in such a personal matter.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 9, 2022 1:37 AM |
He was too clever by half.
Only 3 of his enormous output is watchable.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 9, 2022 1:42 AM |
R25 - Yeah sure, we can go with that.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 9, 2022 11:53 AM |
R26 - they want to go whack-oh. They're trying to prevent objectivity.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 10, 2022 1:43 AM |
R32 - What's a whack-oh? Did you mean whack-off? Oh dear.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 10, 2022 12:31 PM |
Did Bridget love him?

Bernard on Max (not literally):
“I think the love of friends was one of the things that kept Max alive for such a long time,” said Bernard Shaw, a news anchor for Cable News Network and a close friend for 20 years. “Max at the time of his death had more arms around him than he had when he was fighting lonely battles fighting racism in the (television) industry, fighting the things all of us deal with in our personal lives.
“He had no bitterness whatsoever at the end. I called him from Westwood the night before I anchored the presidential debate and he used most of his energy in that conversation wishing me well and telling me how much he was proud of me and how much he loved me.”
