Stain Help: Houseguest put apple cider vinegar in my dishwasher and…

It stained the bottom. It was white. Now, it is an uneven brown stain color.

What will remove the stain and restore it to white?

by Anonymousreply 62September 11, 2022 4:29 PM

What possessed them to do that?

Try to run it through with baking soda in the detergent compartment.

by Anonymousreply 1September 8, 2022 2:43 AM

Bleach? Ajax?

by Anonymousreply 2September 8, 2022 2:44 AM

They dumped apple cider vinegar on the bottom and it evaporated. It has left a disgusting brown stain.

by Anonymousreply 3September 8, 2022 2:49 AM

Rin baking soda through it

by Anonymousreply 4September 8, 2022 2:50 AM

Not bleach it might yellow everything. Again baking soda is the best. You could also throw a little extra into the bottom of the machine as well as the amount that will go into the soap compartment. Run it for a longer cycle. Don’t bother either a heated drying cycle. You may need to do this more than once.

by Anonymousreply 5September 8, 2022 2:53 AM

If baking soda doesn't cut it, try a rag soaked in CLR. (Wear gloves)

by Anonymousreply 6September 8, 2022 2:54 AM

I’m done with guests. One Frau broke an antique clock and shrugged it off like it was nothing. It was a 6k clock that cost $1800 to repair. When I asked her to Cover the deductible for my home owners insurance claim she blocked me. Another spilled some power are drink on brand new white blackout shades.

by Anonymousreply 7September 8, 2022 3:02 AM

R7 How did she spill a drink on the shades? That sounds like some serious klutziness.

by Anonymousreply 8September 8, 2022 3:05 AM

Feel free to invite me over any time.

I won't touch your stiff, and I don't do dishes.

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2022 3:06 AM

What about using white vinegar?

by Anonymousreply 10September 8, 2022 3:07 AM

Could I just pour a bottle of bleach on the bottom? Could something go wrong? Would bleach remove a brown ugly massive stain from apple cider vinegar?

by Anonymousreply 11September 8, 2022 3:10 AM

I would try some liquid Soft Scrub with Bleach and maybe the abrasive side a sponge.

by Anonymousreply 12September 8, 2022 3:10 AM

Take a sharpie and put a smiley face on it.

by Anonymousreply 13September 8, 2022 3:43 AM

I cleaned the floor of my shower stall (molded fiberglass, I think) with No Fumes Easy Off spray. I had tried all kinds of different things and that finally worked.

by Anonymousreply 14September 8, 2022 3:49 AM

I did you a huge favor by breaking that disgustingly gaudy clock.

by Anonymousreply 15September 8, 2022 3:53 AM

Contact the dishwasher manufacturer. You could damage the seals and other components if you use the wrong thing.

by Anonymousreply 16September 8, 2022 4:02 AM

I'm pretty sure the vinegar I used to clean the inside of my microwave bubbled the paint and caused a rust through (danger! danger!) after just 2 years of use. RIP cheap-o microwave...thanks for all the fish! I love the stuff for general cleaning, just not on appliances apparently.

by Anonymousreply 17September 8, 2022 4:09 AM

OP. Ladies. Listen up. This sounds like a job for Barkeeps Friend Soft Cleaner. NOT the powder. It’s a paste.

by Anonymousreply 18September 8, 2022 4:16 AM

R11 are you the OP? If you are then at least read the suggestions people have taken the time to give you. I told you bleach will stain things yellow in there

BAKING SODA.

by Anonymousreply 19September 8, 2022 4:32 AM

R15 plus you gave him the gift of a story.

by Anonymousreply 20September 8, 2022 4:41 AM

Use soy sauce, OP. Soy sauce.

by Anonymousreply 21September 8, 2022 5:26 AM

Do u think it is permanently stained? I am so pissed.

by Anonymousreply 22September 8, 2022 5:52 AM

Just tell future houseguests that a previous houseguest took a shit in it.

Otherwise they'll think you did.

by Anonymousreply 23September 8, 2022 5:57 AM

I must be missing something. Aren't dishwashers stainless steel inside, or does OP have a white manservant who bottoms?

by Anonymousreply 24September 8, 2022 6:08 AM

Just close your dishwasher when not in use. Out of sight, out of mind!

by Anonymousreply 25September 8, 2022 6:13 AM

Vinegar is highly acidic, it probably ate through your bottom and nothing will restore it.

by Anonymousreply 26September 8, 2022 6:33 AM

Bleach, if anything. Maybe oxy detergent powder.

by Anonymousreply 27September 8, 2022 6:35 AM

[quote] I won't touch your stiff,

What fun are you, then?

by Anonymousreply 28September 8, 2022 6:36 AM

I am going to cry. I cannot believe this is happening.

by Anonymousreply 29September 8, 2022 6:36 AM

WHEN WILL THE TEARS STOP?!?!?!

by Anonymousreply 30September 8, 2022 6:40 AM

Is this some elaborately disguised parable about Aaron Schock's brown stained bottom?

by Anonymousreply 31September 8, 2022 9:19 AM

I understand that it is unsightly, but do you leave the dishwasher door open all the time where everyone can see it? I don’t think the stain will impact the washer’s performance and the stain will probably lessen over time.

by Anonymousreply 32September 8, 2022 9:30 AM

Wait. You're bitching because there's a stain on the INSIDE of your dishwasher?????

WTF?

You're an idiot.

(This why they hate us.)

by Anonymousreply 33September 8, 2022 10:46 AM

Have you tried dog shit yet, weepy OP?

by Anonymousreply 34September 8, 2022 11:02 AM

-0.00005/10 OP

by Anonymousreply 35September 8, 2022 11:03 AM

You can use vinegar to clean the inside of a dishwasher. You put a cup of it inside a bowl and run the cycle.

The only thing vinegar can hurt in a dishwasher is the rubber in the seals, potentially. It will not discolor a dishwasher's interior. In fact, it's used to clean an interior that has been discolored by hard water deposits.

All these posts on DL about how clean you guys keep your homes, and something like this fools you? For shame.

by Anonymousreply 36September 8, 2022 11:51 AM

White vinegar

by Anonymousreply 37September 8, 2022 12:32 PM

R24 Older dishwashers (pre the stainless invasion of 1995) and many new inexpensive ones still have that white or gray interior casing.

by Anonymousreply 38September 8, 2022 12:34 PM

Assuming you're one of those "classy gays" whose appliances are up-to-date, and your dishwasher is stainless steel on the inside?

Your stain is permanent! Vinegar is an acid! A corrosive acid! Call up your friend and demand she replace your dishwasher! (But, since she's going to be shelling out 1,000 for your replacement, offer her your "slightly stained" "slightly used" one, which she can then use to replace her horrific avocado green dishwasher!)

Everybody wins!

by Anonymousreply 39September 8, 2022 10:20 PM

Here’s your solution, OP

Take a valium, swallow it. Poof! Problem solved

by Anonymousreply 40September 8, 2022 11:08 PM

Just use some vim with your fingers. It's how you take a stain out of a countertop.

by Anonymousreply 41September 8, 2022 11:19 PM

How did the Frau break the clock?

by Anonymousreply 42September 9, 2022 1:45 AM

Tide pen?

I think the stain will lessen over time and eventually disappear even if you do nothing.

by Anonymousreply 43September 9, 2022 2:14 AM

🙉 Toss in a handful of denture cleaning tablets.

🙈 If that doesn't work, try wearing a blindfold.

by Anonymousreply 44September 9, 2022 6:07 AM

Marry a rich old queen and your problems are solved!

by Anonymousreply 45September 9, 2022 6:11 AM

Mix some bleach and toilet bowl cleaner and put it in but close the door FAST to avoid exposure to the toxic chlorine gas cloud this will create. Allow the chemicals and gas to fester for a few hours then run the machine. When it's done DO NOT OPEN IT!! The gas is still inside. You must run 10 cycles to dissipate the gas. Then voila! The stain will still be there and you may have destroyed the machine but at least you tried based on some bullshit advice you read on the internet.

by Anonymousreply 46September 9, 2022 6:48 AM

Was this the obese houseguest you tried to cook with the high thromostat, OP? Did he get away? Was he trying to use the vinegar stain as a distraction?

by Anonymousreply 47September 9, 2022 6:50 AM

First of all, any dishwasher that does not have a stainless steel interior is trash. Throw out the trash, OP.

by Anonymousreply 48September 9, 2022 6:50 AM

Handsies Kneesies w/ Mr. Clean Eraser or Bartender's Friend. I'm not mad at you, house guest, I'm mad at the stain.

by Anonymousreply 49September 9, 2022 6:54 AM

Yes, OP, throw out your inferior, snob unapproved, dishwasher. How common of you to have an average appliance. Do what the best households do and hire a maid/house keeper/domestic slave.

by Anonymousreply 50September 9, 2022 6:58 AM

I have never in all my life had apple cider vinegar in my house. That is frau trash. Why would you even have such a ridiculous thing in the house? Stop allowing trash to enter your home and this problem will not recur.

by Anonymousreply 51September 9, 2022 7:05 AM

R11 If you're the OP, why the fuck aren't you reading the suggestions? I gave up on this thread after your post.

by Anonymousreply 52September 9, 2022 7:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 53September 9, 2022 2:36 PM

OP you are far too skittish and neurotic. Stop thinking about it. It works fine. You make me tense.

by Anonymousreply 54September 10, 2022 3:02 AM

Baking soda. Give it a scrub by hand and then run it.

by Anonymousreply 55September 10, 2022 3:30 AM

In 55 replies, not one of you realized that OP's moron houseguest is liable for a new dishwasher due to his/her sheer stupidity? Come on bitches, you're slipping!

by Anonymousreply 56September 10, 2022 4:03 AM

It's probably not worth the hassle to OP. I'd feel the same.

by Anonymousreply 57September 10, 2022 4:06 AM

🤗 Grab him by the throat, and mercilessly bang his freaking head against the dishwasher until he's unconscious, and leave him lying in a pool of his own soapsuds.

by Anonymousreply 58September 10, 2022 4:17 AM

Kill the guest, sever his head, deliver the head to his loved ones along with a Polaroid of the inside of your dishwasher.

by Anonymousreply 59September 10, 2022 5:48 AM

[quote]In 55 replies, not one of you realized that OP's moron houseguest is liable for a new dishwasher due to his/her sheer stupidity?

This need NOT be expensive...Walmart has $200 RCA countertop dishwashers with STAINLESS STEEL INTERIOR!

by Anonymousreply 60September 10, 2022 6:02 AM

Cream hydrogen peroxide, the shit you bleach your hair with. Whitens plastic. Youtub it.

by Anonymousreply 61September 11, 2022 12:32 AM

If this is what your houseguest did to your dishwasher, I'd hate to see what he did to your bathroom.
