Why didn’t the cops do anything with the reports that came in leading up to this event.
Is the media asking them questions and holding them accountable?

At age 16, kidnapped a man in 2000 at gun point and threw him into a trunk for two hours, stopping at an ATM to force him to draw money. The man yelled when he saw a security person and Abston fled but was caught and sentenced to about 24 years. He got out in July 2020.

This was in the older thread but here is a YouTube of a quick police interview on Friday early afternoon. Some concerns raise about a similarity between the suspect and some complaints from the university women’s x country running team nearby. Cop brushed it off. Again, this was Friday when not nearly as much was known in public about suspect etc.

The victim was in recovery? Running provides a natural high. Runners can be obsessive about running. The victim had probably ran at that time regularly without an issue. I wouldn't recommend anyone run alone that time of day but don't think that it is strange that she did.
The suspect is a creep. Usually when a crime is committed and the suspect picked up, neighbors are in disbelief. His neighbors will be surprised if he didn't do it.

Neighbors already pegged him as a creep. Offering females a hundred bucks for sex - with no success supposedly. I guess he thought he had a lot of sex (with women at least) to catch up on if he was arrested by 16 and came out at 36. So he got violent.
He looks soulless.

He was certainly busy after getting out of jail the first time. From CNN:
“Three additional charges were added for Abston since his arrest Saturday, according to Shelby County Jail Records. Those charges include identity theft, theft of property $1000 or less and fraudulent use/illegal possession of a credit or debit card $1000 or less, records show.
The newly filed charges Abston are not related to Fletcher's abduction, according to an affidavit obtained by CNN affiliate WHBQ. The new charges are connected to a Thursday theft report filed by a woman who reported that someone was using her CashApp card and Wisley Card at gas stations without her knowledge.”

It bugs me that the public defender had barely been assigned and she was asking for a gag order on all future proceedings. Apparently she will be filing an official motion to do so. I think that is wrong for these high profile cases to be doing that. They tried with the murdaugh case as well. You can always find jurors who will consider all evidence and not be influence by media. It’s become a knee jerk reaction by these defence lawyers now to try and prevent the trial from being public.

The suspect offered to pay for sex, this is inappropriate and creepy but he didn't assault the women he approached. He has no prior history of murder.

Tennessee has the electric chair as a means of execution - it was last used in 2009. Interestingly enough, it was built out of wood from the state's former gallows used in hangings. Death row inmates can choose the electric chair over lethal injection, but there is still a lot of controversy about using it.
I wonder why a method could not be used similar to defibrillating a patient in the hospital. The inmate could be sedated, strapped to a table, and then the shock could be delivered via paddles, only with much greater strength than that used in defibrillation. Larger and correctly placed paddles should get the job done in one or two strikes.

I’ve been having nightmares about Eliza’s murder. I was awakened and startled by seeing that last photo of her on her 4am jog. I see that photo and I wake up horrified. I can’t seem to figure out how and why her body was found on the back steps of that broken down house? I first heard her body was found in a “wooded area’.
Now, reports are saying she was found on or near the doorsteps? How would she have ended up there? Was she alive for a brief moment and was trying to get help? I realize the police shouldn’t give away too much details. But there’s so many discrepancies based on news reports. I just hope that asshole gets the death penalty and in a way, even liberal states should allow in some instances of heinous crimes that the perp should be sentenced and put down in a speedy manner.

R121 I totally hear you on this. I think of times when I’ve come back from an evening walk a little too late and it becomes dark quickly or am out walking usually busy parkland/trail areas near me and realize there has been a lull in foot traffic and I am very alone. That’s different from jogging at 4am, but those moments of danger can sneak up on any of us at any time without meaning to have them happen. And despite all the heiress stuff the media loves to mention, she was so .. ordinary. Like anyone.
Details are a little hard to piece together. I thought maybe she was killed in those first few minutes they mention after she was and tied but I shudder to think it wasn’t until later. The trial will be public likely - even though the public defender on day one tried to gag order the whole thing. I feel the need to know how this all happened.

Woman here. Shit like this scares the crap out of me. I remember bike riding once on a dirt road that ran parallel to a canal. A guy in a truck started following very closely behind me. He then sped up and blocked access to the street. Either I veer left and go into canal or right and ride through high grass and trees. Luckily I got away. Was never so scared in my life. He didn't say anything, but will never forget to look on his face and knew he was up to no good. This happened on sunny afternoon. Told my bf (ex) at the time and said he probably wanted to get to know me and I was overreacting. Screw him. I bought mace. It's a scary world and it pisses me the complaints were not taken seriously. Poor woman.

R126 What a terrible experience. I’m glad you escaped. A man just attempted to abduct a woman in broad daylight in Chicago‘s West Loop. The increased video/security cams are making it easier for police to catch these creeps, but unfortunately doesn’t do much to deter the crime in the first place.

R121/r122 stop being such a coward. Learn how to protect and defend yourself and live your life. Hopefully you don’t have any loved ones that need you to protect them. They would be doomed.

I'd stare right back, and maybe draw my finger across my throat and point at him.

Gunshot wound to the head, blunt force trauma AND fentanyl in her system? Overkill…
Think he tried to drug her and she kept fighting?

R133 That’s what everyone is thinking, he drugged her to subdue her. I can’t imagine how much she suffered at the end.

R60 I would stare right back and fan a bunch of bills, point to the prison guard, and laugh, knowing that motherfucker is about to get some Chris Scarver justice.
