Great list for those of you who enjoy hot dogs. You can know which are the best quality.
8 Hot Dogs That Use the Highest Quality Ingredients
by Anonymous | reply 96 | June 5, 2023 10:45 PM |
They're hot dogs, that bar is set pretty low
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 3, 2022 9:47 PM |
I love hot dogs! I’ve been enjoying Hebrew National Knockwurst on potato buns lately, with sauerkraut.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 3, 2022 9:55 PM |
I can highly recommend Vienna Beef brand as well.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 3, 2022 9:55 PM |
R2 my stepdad got us into Hebrew National when we were kids. My mom always bought Nathan’s though.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 3, 2022 9:56 PM |
I prefer either Nathan's or Hebrew National. Nothing else will do.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 3, 2022 9:56 PM |
No, Sabrett?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 3, 2022 9:57 PM |
They are shitty ultra-processed food, all the good stuff that goes into them are just pointless.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 3, 2022 10:01 PM |
R7- They are delicious, shitty ultra-processed food. Fify. 😁
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 3, 2022 10:03 PM |
Isn’t Sabrett’s what the NYC hot dog vendors use?
Those are delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 3, 2022 10:09 PM |
That's like listing the highest-quality cigarettes or marshmellows. Does it matter?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 3, 2022 10:11 PM |
Hot dogs are essential. I love them at the ball park and for a quick lunch in the big city (NYC, Chicago, Toronto). I only buy all beef for the bbq.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 3, 2022 10:13 PM |
I like Applegate's brand too. Glad to see it tops the list...R7 doesn't even wrinkle the sheets when he fucks.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 3, 2022 10:15 PM |
Who doesn’t eat hot dogs?
Foreigner cunts?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 3, 2022 10:16 PM |
I buy Sabrett, Nathans or Hebrew National.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 3, 2022 10:16 PM |
I like Polish sausage on a bun as well, a little blackened at the edges.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 3, 2022 10:17 PM |
I like hot dogs from a vendor smothered in assorted veggies, but that's about the only way I'll eat them
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 3, 2022 10:18 PM |
Five Guys has a surprisingly good dog. They split it and grill it.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 3, 2022 10:18 PM |
The word, r16, is vegetables.
Vegetables.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 3, 2022 10:22 PM |
My family makes fun of me because I purchase Nathan's or Hebrew National for my dog once or twice a year, as a special treat.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 3, 2022 10:23 PM |
That seems pretty low stakes, r19.
Are you Palestinian or something?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 3, 2022 10:25 PM |
I always figured Hebrew National was better than most. No trayf, right?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 3, 2022 10:37 PM |
r16 Doesn't smothering the vendor make you lose your appetite?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 3, 2022 10:49 PM |
Which ones ‘plumped when you cook ‘em’? 🎶
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 3, 2022 10:49 PM |
I'm a Hebrew National gurl as well
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 3, 2022 11:29 PM |
[quote] all the good stuff that goes into them are just pointless
Oh, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 4, 2022 12:07 AM |
"marshmellows"
Oh, dear!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 4, 2022 12:27 AM |
I prefer sausage on a bun. Usually a spicy Italian.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 4, 2022 12:44 AM |
Applegate farms "Great Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dog" rocks! Absolutely delicious. Hebrew National is great too!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 4, 2022 1:03 AM |
Nathan's with mustard and onion on a toasted bun and a side of tater tots. God's perfect meal.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 4, 2022 1:23 AM |
R28 Agreed. Applegate Farms Organic are the best in the industry. Yes they cost more but the ingredients make it worth it. I don't eat meat, but I do buy them for friends and relatives when I have cookouts.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 4, 2022 1:26 AM |
I love me a good toe, eyeball, intestines and bladder hot dog!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 4, 2022 1:38 AM |
R31 sounds limited or from darkest Africa.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 4, 2022 1:40 AM |
Applegate Farms Organic might be good but they don't have a Wienermobile.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 4, 2022 1:47 AM |
Oooo, look at me! I’m Applegate Farms and I’m organic but I don’t have my own transportation but I also can’t host because I’m a bunch of made up healthy bullshit!
Tee-hee!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 4, 2022 1:52 AM |
Applegate has a skateboard.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 4, 2022 1:53 AM |
DAS RITE.
Excalate.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 4, 2022 1:55 AM |
Natural casing hot dogs have a superior snap.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 4, 2022 1:58 AM |
Superdawg in Chicago, cunts!!
Michael Stern says yes!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 4, 2022 2:01 AM |
I've been buying Nathan's for years but the last purchase was very disappointing. I always boil them and although the texture was not like the restaurant snappiness, it was decent. When I bit into it this last time, they were so mushy and spongy and salty. I looked at the package to see if it said "new recipe!" or something. I did notice that the franks are advertised as "skinless". No wonder. That outer skin made Nathan's so different from other national brands.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 4, 2022 2:02 AM |
Those look intriguing, r41.
Never tried that brand, but I think I’ll pick some up.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 4, 2022 2:10 AM |
Or get vegan ones. They are made from plant-based pigs assholes.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 4, 2022 2:13 AM |
Why would they use a picture of different hot dogs where none of those brands even made the list?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 4, 2022 2:16 AM |
J-School isn’t sending their best!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 4, 2022 2:18 AM |
I find most hot dogs too tiny. It is all bun when you eat them.
I prefer using the Hebrew National quarter-pounders.
Although I hate paying for the "Kosher" con.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 4, 2022 2:38 AM |
Its a satisfying treat once in a while
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 4, 2022 2:39 AM |
R46 that’s why they sell BUN LENGTH.
R47 it’s food. Not cookies.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 4, 2022 2:41 AM |
Junk food, literally
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 4, 2022 2:43 AM |
My favorite hot dogs are made by Kowalski but I don't think they sell them outside Michigan. Great with or without the casing.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 4, 2022 2:45 AM |
R49 is a crypto-soy-bean industry shill.
We see you, Miss Thing.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 4, 2022 2:45 AM |
R51 only it’s all bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 4, 2022 2:46 AM |
I think the nicer market near me sells Kowalski Polish sausage. I’ll have to try some.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 4, 2022 2:46 AM |
"The word, [R16], is vegetables.
Vegetables."
"[R16] Doesn't smothering the vendor make you lose your appetite? "
This is why you two were always picked on as kids and why the big kids smashed your hot dogs in your face 😠
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 4, 2022 2:47 AM |
Eh, I considered it foreplay, r54.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 4, 2022 2:59 AM |
Processed meat = cancer. I think of hot dogs as the cigarette of foods.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 4, 2022 3:32 AM |
[quote]Processed meat = cancer.
Poorly processed meat.
Italians eat lots of sausage, cured meats. They are a diet staple as they are in other countries as well. Yet Italy has one of the highest longevity rates in the West.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 4, 2022 3:37 AM |
Where is the Darfur Orphan on this thread?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 4, 2022 4:58 AM |
R58 I like sausage (Polish and Italian) but not hot dogs. A good butcher makes sausage just like your grandma used to make, with no additives.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 4, 2022 5:00 AM |
That is so cool.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 4, 2022 6:35 AM |
We use only the really GOOD cow anuses in ours!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 4, 2022 6:42 AM |
Can you imagine trying to maneuver that fucking thing?
And it wouldn’t help with people stopping to gawk, or pointing fire hoses of mustard at it.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 4, 2022 6:44 AM |
I would feel like Billy Badass driving that thing.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 4, 2022 6:46 AM |
"Can you imagine trying to maneuver that fucking thing? "
Yeah, well, don't try to park it in the garage
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 4, 2022 6:47 AM |
SEE?!? SEE?!?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 4, 2022 6:49 AM |
Welcome to DL, Upton Sinclair.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 4, 2022 7:07 AM |
I'm surprised Gilbert's didn't make the cut. I only buy them but once or twice a year, but The Froman is the best I've had. I believe they've changed the name of their uncured all-beef franks due to a lawsuit, but they're the same regardless. They're naturally cured, so any cancer risk should be diminished, and they taste like actual hot dogs... surprise, surprise, as many of these uncured sausages do NOT.
Abe Froman was the "Sausage King", mentioned in the film [italic] Ferris Bueller's Day Off [/italic]. I think he WAS an actual person now, after the abrupt name change!
When I can't find them, I buy David Berg's, or Vienna Beef. All three brands have the same flavour profile to me, and that's what I simply prefer.
I've also had Poisoned Dragon's fave, and those are quite good as well, if you like a Jalapeño kick.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 4, 2022 7:19 AM |
I too love Kowalski R50. I love the snap. I also love their stadium kielbasa. I used to eat them at Tiger Stadium back in the day. I considered ordering their hotdogs online but you have to buy six packages in a time. And I’m sure they charge an arm and a leg for shipping!
I also love Rinaldi‘s hot Italian sausage on a bun. Too bad you can’t find it on the West Coast.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 4, 2022 7:29 AM |
I like a big Kowalski myself! Thanks for reminding me. I forgot to mention them. Bobak's is good as well, a local Chicagoland brand. Here is the link for Gilbert's, which I also forgot to include.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 4, 2022 7:32 AM |
Kowalski's are available in Chicago, as well as North Western Indiana, R50.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 4, 2022 7:34 AM |
Read The Jungle.
Then, I will suggest to you Beyond Sausage (plant based).
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 4, 2022 7:38 AM |
R73 With respect, any work by Upton Sinclair is best left out a discussion of the finest cured and processed meats! I'll carry on with my hot dog consumption regardless. I love hot dogs with Chili, and any occasion there is a cook-out. I also love a Kirkland hot dog on my way out of Costco. Heavy onion, relish, and mustard, please!
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 4, 2022 7:49 AM |
R57 I enjoy cigarettes as well, in moderation of course. (especially when I swim to Scotland)
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 4, 2022 8:14 AM |
R73, you need to go on.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 4, 2022 8:44 AM |
If I buy hot dogs, I go with Hebrew National all beef dogs.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 4, 2022 9:39 AM |
I hate beef hot dogs. And chicken and turkey dogs taste like nothing. And plant based meat? Why?! If you want to eat plants, eat plants!
What ever happened to all pork dogs? The few brands at the store that have any pork at all are all mixed with something else, usually chicken or turkey. If you want just pork you have to get sausage.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | September 4, 2022 9:43 AM |
R78 I believe there really was never a 100% pork frankfurter, or hot dog, from the Austriann or German tradition anyhow. Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but most of the famous makers were eithef Austrian or German Jews, even when their product was not sold as "Kosher-All Beef", as in the case of the Gienna Beef family's founders in the USA.
Other sausages derived from pork, were originally given a variety of different names.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 4, 2022 9:49 AM |
I liked hot dogs until I saw they have at least 22 grams if fat each. 22 grams! Maybe just one for Labor Day.
What's the deal with no ketchup? I am 60 and have always liked them with, sparingly, ketchup, mustard and relish. This thread is making me hungry.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 4, 2022 9:51 AM |
^ sorry for the typos, several which I had corrected for... Vienna Beef, hopefully you can make sense of that.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | September 4, 2022 9:52 AM |
I like the Taste of Hebrew Nation but there is always a yellowish orange grease that comes off of them when you put one in the microwave. That's why I prefer Vienna Beef hot dogs.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 4, 2022 10:30 AM |
R82 I really wish Vienna Beef made an uncured variety. I'm not keen on Hebrew National either. Rather, I think it's the worst of the all-beef Kosher Franks.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 4, 2022 11:03 AM |
[quote]R69: I've also had Poisoned Dragon's fave, and those are quite good as well, if you like a Jalapeño kick.
There is also a version without the jalapeños, if you'd rather.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | September 4, 2022 12:58 PM |
R84 Thanks, now I must try those as well! Reminds me that I have a smoked and encased meat obsession.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | September 4, 2022 1:10 PM |
Hmm...
I wonder which one is more poisonous- a hot dog ( it certainly made Patty Duke lose control) or a submarine sandwich with the salami ham etc
by Anonymous | reply 86 | September 4, 2022 2:07 PM |
R96 Thanks, I enjoyed an Italian sub for my dinner last night. (Mortadella, Ham, Salami, and Pepperoni) I know the cured meats are associated with X, but I never did consider my sandwich POISONOUS until now. Thanks a lot!
by Anonymous | reply 87 | September 4, 2022 2:28 PM |
^R86 don't have my reading glasses on
by Anonymous | reply 88 | September 4, 2022 2:29 PM |
r61 I would rather a weiner spend the night in me than me in it.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | September 4, 2022 2:32 PM |
I am not saying that processed food is good. It's awful for you, I'm sure. But, I think we're going to learn at some point in the not too distant future that all of this organic, natural ingredients, no preservatives stuff has been a total scam.
If you want healthy meat, you're going to have to start buying it directly from farms, yourself.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | September 4, 2022 2:38 PM |
there is no "quality" in hotdogs. it's all shit.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | September 4, 2022 2:52 PM |
R82 please do not microwave hotdogs! It makes the hot dog gods cry!
by Anonymous | reply 92 | September 4, 2022 4:36 PM |
It is not just the fat, it is the high sodium that makes this a once in a while treat. Even low sodium franks are obscenely high in sodium. If I am at a family cookout, I can't resist a grilled frank with mustard, never ketchup. I like it almost burned and crispy.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | September 4, 2022 5:05 PM |
Whoever recommended Applegate, I am soooooo fucking pissed!
I had a taste for a hotdogs w/sauerkraut, onions and yellow mustard. Remembered this thread and re-read it.
DoorDashed Applegate and Nathan's, plus buns. Cooked one of each.
The Nathan's was fantastic. The Applegate's, not so much. It actually tasted spoiled. Thinking it could be just part of it, I ventured another bite fron the opposite end. Even worse.
And the fucking things cost me $9.99 for EIGHT shitty-tasting wieners that I have to put in the trash.
I sooooo fucking hate when this happens, and I hate this extreme capitalism that makes companies change a good recipe for some bullshit that always translates to "We fucked with this wonderful recipe to squeeze out more $$$$$ while keeping the same name."
Was already having a bad day; this makes it worse.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | June 5, 2023 8:42 PM |
R19 Your dog eats its own vomit.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | June 5, 2023 9:28 PM |
Hebrew National hot dogs are the best. And they hold up well over an open flame.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | June 5, 2023 10:45 PM |
