What is DL's origin story?

It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly, a shot rang out!

Colonial caftans lifted en masse to present hole on The Mayflower.

It all happened during Prohibition.

Muriel's parents died and she had to live with her Uncle Ben and Aunt May in NYC. One day, while on a school field trip, she was bitten by a radioactive Charles Nelson Reilly. After the bite, Muriel developed amazing new powers and thus Datalounge was born.

I thought originally it was like the Green Book, but for which truck stops had glory holes, and which diners had the best pie.

Each post was originally carved in stone. Updates took for-ev-er.

All I remember was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time.

Before a distant planet around a red star exploded, its chief scientist Jor-El and his wife Lara sent their baby Muri-El in a space rocket that landed safely on Earth.

Somebody started it for fun. Oscar Mary! Flymonger I believe It grew slowly with modest success for a long while. It grew even more as people started searching for weird and perverted information and up came Data Lounge threads in the lists of links.

That's how I found it anyway and I imagine legions more as well. I've been here ever since, being weird and perverted and all.

Good question, OP. And good info, R9. I've shared this before, but I found DL during the Tom Cruise couch jumping incident on Oprah. I was hearing all this chatter on the internet that day and the day after about his behavior, so I Googled it and a Datalounge thread was one of the links. Clicked on it and learned about the incident and laughed a lot at the posts. I then started poking around and was hooked. This must be about 15 years ago - back when DL had page numbers for each thread.

I should add, I was not in any way looking for something along the lines of DL. It just happened.

Muriel I thought her name was Myrtle.
