young people tend to float... they'll drive for hours evey weekend just to go to the latest trend but they aren't inclined to be loyal customers. once a club is dead to them, it's buried for a few months to years, and there's little an owner can do to entice them back as they've moved on, distracted by the next shiny thing.

older gents tend to have a routine, a carved out niche. .. they aren't as apt to rake up their mileage, waste gas/electic, deal with traffic, fight for a parking space, take the tram or walk for miles to the pub and then back to the car. They might have several bars they go to but it's routine. It's a lot harder to talk them out of going to their haunts.

I'm 50 and have head things about respecting their gay elders from younger guys like "Thank you for paving the way for us" and while I know it's meant in a kind way I don't really like it. It's amazing how often I'm listening to podcasts that review shows or movies, and if there is a character who is, say 17, they will be described as a "literal child". There's no sense of a sliding scale of responsibilities as one gets older, and now I have heard some young people argue that adulthood shouldn't be until 25. Even in the videos responding to the above and calling him out have people saying: "well of course I have no interest in flirting with someone so many years younger than me", and acting like, as you say, a 29 year old dating a 23 year old is someone "problematic". (Hell, they would be triggered by my dating history seeing as at 32 I was dating a 55 year old, haha!)

R171, very relatable, my generation (teens in the 90s) were all trying to be more grown up, being "sophisticated" and "mature" were considered goals. I have always been able to get along well with people from the older generations - in fact, once we reached a certain age then everyone was expected to be able to carry on conversations and be a part of things with others, whatever age they were.

R179 Yep it's very much a Western, white middle to upperclass ideal. In other countries, teens are treated as young adults and given more responsibilities and expectations. Many make the choice to go to school and study to get into college and have to pass an exam for that. Or they can opt to go to a vocational high school and learn a trade and take an apprenticeship.

R179 and then they grow up not being able to do anything, to look after themselves or anything like that. I have parents at work who are ringing up their children's university lecturers, doctors, dentists, and these "kids" are 25. It doesn't do them any good not to be able to function like that.
