Spandau were a jazz-and-punk influenced British pop/new wave band and were smarter than your average bears. Tony Hadley had a very strong baritone and was also sexy as hell.

Tony Hadley used to be very handsome, and so were Steve Norman and Martin Kemp. My mother used to love them in the 80s and they are part of my early childhood's soundtrack - Only When You Leave and Gold are still her favourites, and I must admit that she is right - and so are you, R6. Their material was great and they were more sophisticated and musically gifted than most of their contemporaries.
