Her fan base was shallow.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 30, 2022 12:32 AM |
She'll still get a hit once in a while. The issue was her arrogance though just like Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne. Pink was just as manufactured as Britney and Jessica who she mocked with "Stupid Girl" and originally started out as R&B before switching to pop rock. She think she's rock but she never strayed from safe radio friendly pop fluff. The lack of humor about herself and mean dyke vibe didn't help with her longevity. She still tours and makes money and is set for life.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 30, 2022 12:34 AM |
She had a good few years, which is standard for pop singers.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 30, 2022 12:41 AM |
R5 I agree she's been around a while and had a good run. It's not like she was a one album wonder..

by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 30, 2022 12:54 AM |
She's part of the same late 90s/early 2000s teen pop/bubblegum R&B explosion as Backstreet Boys, Britney, Justin Timberlake, Christina, Jessica and Beyonce. She went pop rock/pop punk as it was gaining traction but never progressed after that. Her whole alternative "not like the other girls" mantra was phony. I think she should go back to R&B, she seems to hate the Babyface produced debut album though it was perfect for her vocals.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 30, 2022 12:54 AM |
I don't know any of her solo work but her album and tour with Dallas Green as "You+Me" were excellent. Especially loved their cover of Sade's "No Ordinary Love".
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 30, 2022 12:54 AM |
She is hardly some "whatever happened to her" one hit wonder. Pink has now been around for 20 years and is still a big draw on tour. Sells albums and still gets airplay. And she's undeniably talented as pop vocalists go. (arguably, her stuff all sounds very similar tho)
Really enjoyed this video she did 4 years ago w/ channing tatum. Shows that her record company is still willing to put some resources behind her.

R12: yeah I haven’t been a fan for years (did like her early R&B stuff) but I’d never say she disappeared or declined in success. It’s an odd artist to pick for a whatever happened to. She’s between albums is all. She’ll release another one and it’ll got top 5, she’ll tour, etc.

Pink, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce still have songs played on the radio and could still get new hits. Usher is another one who still has it. Their fanbases will still support them.
The better question is asking about whatever happened to Christina Aguilera?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 30, 2022 1:04 AM |
She has a great singing voice, I saw her on tour shortly before the pandemic hit. It was a high energy performance.
I think she’s confused over who her base is, and panders too much to the pre-teen crowd. One of her recently released songs featured her daughter, ugh. Pink’s music was better when she was mad at her husband, and not in a solid marriage with two kids.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 30, 2022 1:12 AM |
Like the above poster said she positioned herself as a rebel who was hard and edgy and not a pop princess like Britney or Katy but musically she was pretty much the same as them. Her songs were still pop fluff.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 30, 2022 1:34 AM |
R21 Yep. Pink, Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera's anti-Britney images fell apart because they were just as manufactured. Their arrogance came across as hypocritical. Ashlee Simpson is also part of this group, that bitch was not rock, just a ditzy Southern girl like her sister.
Though Pink at least had the talent to fare better and wisely made suburban mom music. But she's not a hot topic anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 30, 2022 1:39 AM |
I prefer Shirley Bassey's cover of Get This Party Started.

The most basic of white girls act and say "I'm not like all the other girls." And go through their teen rocker/punk/goth phase for attention. Then drop it like a hot potato as soon as they get a real job or real relationship/marriage. Pink strikes me as someone stuck in that adolescent phase. But many celebrities are in arrested development.

Her last albums have been nothing but self-help music. Her last albums were called “Hurts 2B Human” and “Beautiful Trauma”.
She writes the kind of lyrics 40 year-old women post as memes on Facebook. “I have beautiful flaws” nonsense. Women who’ve “survived through the storm” and all that shit.

I remember when she released her song "Stupid Girls". In interviews to promote it she often maligned other female celebrities of the time like Paris Hilton & Britney Spears for their vapid contributions & reliance on looking too pretty. I'd think, as she sat there in a full face of thick make-up & fully coiffed, "What a hypocrite! Bitch, you didn't wake up looking like that!" Pink is nothing more than a poser.

R73, I can’t recall exactly. I read an interview with a number of top singers and they agreed that Pink had the best voice.
Personally, I don’t hear it. She has a good voice but not one that’s particularly distinct. Maybe it’s powerful in person
by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 30, 2022 9:57 PM |
She had an interesting career. Her first album, produced by Babyface, was R and B. Then she switched to more pop, and then female power
by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 30, 2022 9:57 PM |
SO MANY r73! Heh. She's got an identifiable voice and it's remarkably on key and well-controlled without sounding over-trained (you'd think pitch would be a given but with pop stars...). Her songs are catchy and inoffensive. She seems nice.
I sound like I'm damning with faint praise but really that puts her above 90% of her peers.

Apart from her debut where she was dolled up to be sexy. She isn't sexy or pretty. She's absolutely talented but doesn't look like a typical pop star. I feel she's bigger with women especially soccer moms and lesbians. I don't know any gays who stan her at all. Not that that's a bad thing or makes a difference. But I get why some gays on here who may be in a bubble may underestimate how popular she still is with women.

She does have vocal chops (yes, chops).
She probably did struggle with her persona at the beginning, trying to stand apart from Britney, Christina, even Jessica Simpson was singing at that point. So, maybe it seems fake in retrospect.
Glad that she took a stance on Roe v. Wade being overturned.
I think she still tours. She has enough hits to just play her "oldies," at this point.
She does ping as a lesbian to me. At the same time, I don't think she's homophobic, far from it.

The weird thing is Katy is a very capable singer. I used to think she couldn't sing until I listened to her old Christian music and saw her acoustic performances on YouTube. So I think the loud off-key singing is just part of her schtick. That quirky obnoxious party girl image. She is better when she's more subdued.

Honestly I find late 2000s/early 2010s pop underrated. A lot of the singles by Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Britney, Ciara, Kesha, Taylor Swift, Beyonce etc around that time aged well and they sounded futuristic. Late 90s/early 2000s pop was overall very corny.

The way white Trumpers have co-opted the word “woke” is pathetic. It is a word that has been used in black vernacular for decades to describe something or someone who is very clear-eyed and alert to various social injustices, but they have demonized it in the same way that they’ve co-opted and sullied the phrase Black Lives Matter into Blue Lives Matter (whatever the fuck that means). "Woke" is slang not vernacular. Black vernacular is a real thing with real rules. It's simply a subset of the Southern accent and it's not too dissimilar to the Irish or Northern English accent to an extent. "I be", "shook", "ain't no". Most non-Southern white and nonblack people don't use it at all properly. Y'all is now ruined.

R129, you'll find that the DL has not swallowed the "woke" bullshit but sure, we're all "Trumptards" here. Idiot.

[quote] but sure, we're all "Trumptards" here.
The smartest, most "woke" thing you've said thus far.

I really like Walk Me Home from 2019. Is it her most recent hit? She has a great voice; if we still had producers like Jerry Wexler around I think she'd put out some classic albums.

Yes, the Pink / Linda Perry rift had something to do with Christina Aguilera. I didn't realize the issue was "Beautiful." I thought it was just the fact that LP was working with Aguilera at all. I got the feeling that LP's career was in the doldrums until she collaborated with Pink. Then, I guess Pink thought that LP should have been a little more loyal / faithful to her after taking her out of the doldrums.

P!nk said she was like a jealous lover when Linda worked with Xtina on her album. But they also clashed while working on the Lady Marmalade collab. I love how P!nk didn't give a fuck and called Xtina out on her diva bullshit.

She turned purple
by Anonymous | reply 135 | September 1, 2022 1:29 AM |
I never liked her. So try-hard and nasty attitude. I also get MAGA vibes from her husband.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | September 1, 2022 1:31 AM |
R133: yeah I think it was more the general point of LP working with other singers and who Pink considered her rivals. I don’t think Beautiful was ever meant for Pink.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | September 1, 2022 9:35 AM |
R132 Pink is truly ahead of her time because in the video she appears like a 60 year old millenial. The music reminds me of Justin Timberlake's weird country song but as a soccer mom remix.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | September 1, 2022 11:21 AM |
R134 They should be friends though coz they are both pro-circumcision despite chanting "my body, my choice". Are they secretly republicans like R136 touches on with saying that Pink's hubby could be a MAGAT? I expected more from strong career women in Hollywood but apparently they are just sum plain celeb chicks anyhow. I mean for realz, how can ya sing "Can't hold us down" and then let yo own son held down for a skin ripping??

R139, seek counseling.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | September 1, 2022 5:05 PM |
R140 Why? I support "my body my, choice" to the fullest. For women and men. Why need counseling for supporting freedom?
by Anonymous | reply 141 | September 1, 2022 5:34 PM |
I think she's definitely bi. Just like Christina Aguilera. Many bi women marry men eventually once they crave to start a family.

People in the youtube comments aren't too happy about her opinions lately.

R142 it's amazing how Xtina managed to slip under the radar with Sam Ronson during the LiLo era.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | September 1, 2022 10:47 PM |
R145 lilo & stitch?
by Anonymous | reply 146 | September 1, 2022 11:33 PM |
Lindsay Lohan is bi too but she is a whore, so she just goes for men with money. She made up that sex list to help the closet cases in Hollyweird.
Britney is another bisexual but she prefers big dicks on douchebags. I think the Paris drama turned her away from the vag.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | September 1, 2022 11:42 PM |
R147 So she is a bi-muslim? Does she have hijab for her vagina to cover the sin? Where is the list..?
by Anonymous | reply 148 | September 1, 2022 11:44 PM |
She's bearding for some rich Arab prince just like Janet did. She was getting too old to escort.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | September 1, 2022 11:46 PM |
R146 yes
R147 why would she want to help them?
by Anonymous | reply 150 | September 1, 2022 11:51 PM |
Lilo's sex list. Some of these names are suspect

Pop stardom is so weird. Pink has a great voice. And some great songs. The machine seemed to be behind her.
But she never transcended to that Bey or Gaga level of fame.
Eh, she's rich. And made her mark I guess.

The "everyone is gay" people may be desperate, but they have nothing on the "everyone is lesbian" crowd.

R155 way to be dramatic.

She drives the kids to school, while they sing a medley of her hit.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | September 2, 2022 11:48 AM |
I was never into her screeching lesbionic singing. She gets on my nerves.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | September 9, 2022 2:47 AM |
Op, Pink dried up. His voice has got to be tired by now. A few decent song, and I think Pink really could sing them without all the electronic fakery.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | September 9, 2022 2:53 AM |
She's a closeted lesbian.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | September 9, 2022 5:21 AM |
Everyone knows she is bi.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | September 9, 2022 6:51 AM |
She's a lumpy Polish potato. She was never going to be a star.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | September 9, 2022 7:40 AM |
R162 unfortunately that term doesn't exist on here.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | September 9, 2022 10:18 AM |
[quote]She’s also a Jew, so maybe people should have respected there were cultural reasons why she had her son circumcised.
She's also a feminist. That's the problem. It also demonstrates the problem with feminism- women let themselves off the hook if possible. And because Jewish men are circumcised as babies and then raised Jewish, they certainly don't have a problem with it. Who polices the police?

Her 2010 VMA performance, Glitter in the Air, was amazing, IMO. Really a gold standard for a live performance.

by Anonymous | reply 169 | September 9, 2022 9:14 PM |
That performance at R168 always brings me to tears.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | September 9, 2022 10:07 PM |
R168 here. That's the Grammys, actually, not the VMAs. The video posted at R168 cuts off the audience reaction at the end. The audience, incl. Rhianna, also seemed really touched and impressed by Pink's performance.
I do wonder if part of it was lip-synced. (Like the parts where she's in the air and spinning.) If so, I think it would be OK, but just wondering.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | September 9, 2022 10:10 PM |
Pink sounded beautiful and the performance was gorgeous at R168
Rihanna laughed at Britney and was moved by Pink. Her reactions are usually on point.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | September 9, 2022 10:23 PM |
Pink is fantastic in concert. I adore her. And in that grammy video, she was not lip synching.

Like an asshole and then chose to perform with Britney doing an S&M remix.

The best part of Shitney’s VMA performance was Rihanna laughing at her.
