People taller or shorter than you realized?

Speaking of midgets -- Joan Crawford. There's a pic of her someplace online standing next to director William Castle and What's My Line panelist Dorothy Kilgallen. She's about half the height of Castle, and even shorter than no-chin Kilgallen.

DeSantis, I found out on DL he was only 5'9". I thought he was a fat John Goodman type. His T Rex arms make sense now.

Joan Crawford being that small messes with my head. She had such a strong, intense presence.

Mine too R5. They photographed her from lower angles to make her look taller.

I guess I figured Ben Affleck was 6'2" as well. That's my height so I notice in daily life when people are taller since its not common. But hard to judge virtually. I guess I figured actors who are "tall" would be my height not 6'4 and 6'5!

Standing at 5'1", Lady Gaga is an inch shorter than Madonna. I thought she was taller.

I haven't looked his height up (those are often padded by their PR anyway) but shit Eric Stoltz must be short as hell. I watched Mask again last night and he looked to be an inch or two taller than Cher who is a midget. He was also a tiny build, too. He absolutely could pass for 15 or 16, which is what he was playing, despite the fact that he was actually 23 or 24 years old at the time.

Cher is not short for a woman, she is 5'7". It seems like almost every actress I look up to is 5'6". I think 5'6" is supposed to be the Ideal and probably not true of most of them. Allison Janney always looked very tall to me. She has long arms and long legs. she looks 6 feet.

Didn't realize that Natalie Wood was just 5 feet tall. She seemed taller in her movies and dated tall men (Warren Beatty is 6'2).

Emilio Estevez is 5'7.

The perspective is skewed in that photo of Joan, because she's standing several feet behind Castle and Kilgallen, who are standing at the front of the stage.

Joan was about 5'3", which was considered average to above average for the women of her day.

She got shorter (as we all do with age) but she continued to wear high heels, and she was not considered "short" by her peers.

My perception of Alan Ladd changed so much when I learned how short and gay he was. Once you see it you can't unsee it. Pocket gay.

R3 Dorothy Kilgallen was 5'7" which was quite tall for women then and still several inches taller than the US average for women today. Crawford is listed as anywhere from 5'2"-5'4" which was not short for the time. She would probably have been shorter toward the end of her life as people tend to lose height.

I once stood next to Ben Stiller. I’m 5’10” and I towered over him.

Mariah Carey was waif-like early in her career. Was surprised to learn she is 5’8”, quite tall for a woman.

On the flip side, Missy Elliott is a tiny 5’2”, but always had a big presence (I don’t mean her weight alone).

Allison Janney and Jane Lynch are both easily six feet tall. They have the same body type, actually. All thin and almost narrow in build with legs for days and really long arms.

I assume Jennifer Coolidge was picked to work with Jane Lynch in "Best in Show" because she's quite tall as well. I'm thinking 5"9 or so with her. I like her figure.

I saw Katherine Hepburn in person and she was quite tall probably around 5’10. Her leading men must have all been quite tall, DeNiro, Pacino, Hoffman are very short. Definitely under 5’6 which is my height. All their leading ladies must be tiny.

Yes, Streisand is only about 5'4. Mae West was also only 5 feet tall. Both seem tall and imposing.
