What's so great about Millie Bobby Brown?

Just saw a double feature of Godzilla King Of All Monsters/Godzilla versus Kong

She's not really pretty and her acting is atrocious. She reminded me of a younger Natalie Portman with Down's Syndrome

Yes I've never seen Stranger Things (yes Mary, clutch those pearls) but I guess if the Hollywood machine pushes the most bland playing people as their aimless stars, I guess the sheep that followed deserve it.

Hence the popularity of Jennifer lawrence, Channing Tatum, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Kitsch

OP, I'm confused by her success as well but take heart, it seems like people are over her. She got mixed notices for the latest season of Stranger Things and while she's doing that silly Sherlock sequel I don't think people have many illusions about her anymore.

by Anonymousreply 1August 27, 2022 8:20 PM

All I know about her besides Stranger Things is she was sexualized along with Finn Wolfhard and it caused a big controversy.

by Anonymousreply 2August 27, 2022 8:23 PM

She was a very compelling child actor. Season 1 of Stranger Things blew me away with her little elfin face and sad eyes. In more recent seasons, I think she’s okay. I’m not sure she’s lived up to her earlier promise, but I’d say that about most of the original kids in that show. The guys who play Mike, Will and Lucas are pretty bad in their older personas. Nancy and Jonathan are blah. The show gets a lot of criticism for bringing in new characters only to bump them off, but honestly I think they do it to smooth over the talent deficit in the original group of kids. Everyone of the new characters have been much better actors. I’m including Joe Keary/Steve in the later group since I think his character was kept on because he interacted well with the younger cast members and made them look better. Well, this is a long answer to your question but I have been doing a rewatch this week and thinking about it. I hope Millie and the younger cast are careful with their money and don’t expect huge careers in show business as adults.

by Anonymousreply 3August 28, 2022 5:17 PM

Finn Wolfhard is barely male.

by Anonymousreply 4August 28, 2022 5:34 PM

The Molly Ringwald of the 2010s/2020s, she'll be over in less than ten years. Except she can passably act.

by Anonymousreply 5August 28, 2022 5:37 PM

Finn Wolfhard’s face is terrible. He’s worse-looking than the chap with the little teeth.

by Anonymousreply 6August 28, 2022 5:37 PM

Millie Bobby Jojo Siwa

by Anonymousreply 7August 28, 2022 8:06 PM

Her late stepmother, Whitney Houston.

by Anonymousreply 8October 6, 2023 7:38 PM

She seems a little full of herself.

by Anonymousreply 9October 6, 2023 7:44 PM

She was good enough in the first couple seasons of Stranger Things. I also find her bland and forgettable as a grown-up actress. I also can't STAND her name.

by Anonymousreply 10October 6, 2023 7:46 PM

She prefers showers.

by Anonymousreply 11October 6, 2023 7:47 PM

I didn’t realize she did anything beyond Stranger Things.

by Anonymousreply 12October 6, 2023 9:46 PM

Did you not watch her in Enola Holmes with straight actor Henry Cavill, r12?

by Anonymousreply 14October 6, 2023 11:04 PM

She's gorgeous!

by Anonymousreply 15October 7, 2023 12:07 AM

She’s average in every way

by Anonymousreply 16October 7, 2023 12:30 AM

You forgot Timothee Chalamet OP.

by Anonymousreply 17October 7, 2023 12:34 AM

[quote] The first page opens with the clunker: “It was hot — the kind of heat that makes you long for the weather to cool down.” This is followed by about 150 pages of walk-on characters ominously pointing out just how dodgy the steps down to Bethnal Green station are. “While the entrance is adequate for normal usage,” some random engineer tells the Mayor, “I think it’s very likely unsafe if there are crowds of people all trying to enter at once.” It’s a bit like setting a novel on the Titanic and having guests randomly come out with, “oh, I sure do hope we won’t see any icebergs on our journey.”

Well she can't write. Or at least she can't hire competent ghost writers that's clear

She reminds me of Miley Ray Cyrus - the need for attention, drawing all the oxygen in the room to them. I enjoy her character in ST, but have to change the channel if I come across an interview with her.

by Anonymousreply 19October 7, 2023 1:01 AM

Ugh, this kid. Took my niece shopping last week and she was pestering me to buy Nineteen Steps. Normally, I'm a pushover and will buy whatever my nieces and nephews want, but I told Miss 12-going-on-20 that I was not going to spend my money on a poorly written novel that she would only read once, and that further, she could wait until the local library got it because our family wasn't going to support some billionaire brat by buying her crappy merch.

by Anonymousreply 20October 7, 2023 1:27 AM

She has the unfortunate problem of looking 40 at such a young age, much like Angela Lansbury. However, Angela milked that for decades and always played the older woman and looked "ageless" because of it.

by Anonymousreply 21October 7, 2023 2:42 AM

She went straight from cute kid to chain smoking cougar.

by Anonymousreply 22October 7, 2023 2:45 AM

She’s very plain in the same way that Emma Watson is plain. Insecure straight guys seem to go crazy over bland women because they aren’t intimidating.

by Anonymousreply 23October 7, 2023 3:24 AM

The name itself is a dead giveaway that this is a pretentious person.

by Anonymousreply 24October 7, 2023 3:37 AM

r21 Can't quite see Dame Angela attempting this look.

Certainly not her trashy name.

by Anonymousreply 26October 7, 2023 2:46 PM

I think she’s likable. In a couple of video clips she posted, she’s kind of charming. I’m sure casting directors like her when they meet her.

by Anonymousreply 27October 7, 2023 4:13 PM

What r21 said

by Anonymousreply 31October 8, 2023 1:19 AM

I find her beyond annoying starting with her ridiculous name.

by Anonymousreply 32October 8, 2023 1:41 AM

she makes a good fag hag as her redeeming quality. They ever redo Mean Girls soon Noah and Millie would be top of my casting list

I saw her in person over the summer and had no idea who she is but she is definitely a head-turner. She carries herself with complete confidence. I thought she was a model but someone told me who she was.

by Anonymousreply 34October 8, 2023 1:51 AM

Her career is not going to last long because she already looks like she's 55.

by Anonymousreply 35October 8, 2023 1:52 AM

"Hence the popularity of Jennifer lawrence, Channing Tatum, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Kitsch"

Kitsch and Vikander aren't popular. They flopped. Bad thesis.

by Anonymousreply 36October 8, 2023 1:54 AM

Always has her mouth open.

by Anonymousreply 37October 8, 2023 1:57 AM

The quirky look that makes them popular actors as children first carryover to adulthood.

by Anonymousreply 38October 8, 2023 2:05 AM

[quote] “It was hot — the kind of heat that makes you long for the weather to cool down.”

That’s so profound.

Here’s the opening line of chapter 2:

[quote]”I was sopping wet — the kind of wetness that makes you long for your clothing to be dry.”

by Anonymousreply 39October 8, 2023 2:14 AM

You know who was great in Stranger Things? Joseph Quinn and Dacre Montgomery. Those guys can act.

by Anonymousreply 40October 8, 2023 2:18 AM

She's 19 or 20 but is styled like a 40-something divorcee on the prowl.

by Anonymousreply 41October 8, 2023 2:29 AM

R10 I like her name better than "Sadie Sink."

OP, if you have not seen Stranger Things, you really haven't seen Millie Bobby Brown. I don't necessarily like every single second of her performance but it covers many episodes and seasons, and it's one of the performances that carries the show. She was a phenomenal child actor, in my opinion. She hasn't been as great in a few of the later episodes but the storyline let her down.

by Anonymousreply 42October 8, 2023 3:09 AM

She made an impact in the first season of Stranger Things and seemed to be very talented as well as unconditionally pretty. Every season after, she got uglier and her acting got worse. Maybe it’s the material, but others outshone her. Sadie Sink is much better and so are some of the guys.

by Anonymousreply 43October 8, 2023 3:23 AM

*unconventially*

by Anonymousreply 44October 8, 2023 3:24 AM

The issue with ST is the acting even amongst the weaker cast is better than the writing and that pretty much carries the show. The majority of the cast aren't given anything scriptwise worthwhile for seasons on end and have to make do with what they're given. In Millie's case that's trying to make Finn Wolfhard look like he's not just mentally calculating his paycheck and then getting a nosebleed while fighting a boss battle at the end of the season.

I would say Sadie is a better actress though, and given she's actually managed to branch out from Netflix the last few years unlike MBB I'd say the industry agrees.

by Anonymousreply 45October 8, 2023 3:24 AM

I think Millie has had an incredibly hard role at times. I don't really get Sadie Sink, she seems bitchy and leaves me cold. Her face seems inexpressive.

by Anonymousreply 46October 8, 2023 5:21 AM

She's like the female Jaden Smith in that she comes off as incredibly entitled and bratty in interviews. If anything, it will be her public persona that causes her downfall.

I agree she was interesting in the first few seasons of Stranger Things, but her performance became more one-note in later seasons. But I believe that has more to do with the repetitive, cliche writing than her acting.

by Anonymousreply 47October 8, 2023 5:30 AM

She was born in Spain, like me!

by Anonymousreply 48October 8, 2023 7:46 AM

[quote]Always has her mouth open.

Well, she needs to breathe.

by Anonymousreply 49October 8, 2023 7:47 AM

She has a nose, R49.

by Anonymousreply 50October 9, 2023 10:42 PM

R38 I meant to say the quirky looks of a child actor doesn’t carryover to being a star as an adult.

by Anonymousreply 51October 10, 2023 2:11 AM

I love her speaking voice.
