One of the first LGBTQ-friendly senior housing facilities in the United States, the John C. Anderson Apartments — named for the pathbreaking Black and gay City Council member who died in 1983 — has been called home by nearly 100 people
Do you or would you live in a gay housing for seniors?

I’m on the list to go there at some point. I’ll look forward to it
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 27, 2022 12:50 PM |
I'd certainly consider it.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 27, 2022 12:50 PM |
Yes, I think I would, but no “trans” support, no “queer”, no “LGBTQIA”, I would look for this, if I see a trace of it, absolutely no.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 27, 2022 12:51 PM |
If it's affordable and clean - YES!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 27, 2022 12:56 PM |
Only if everyone there looks 35.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 27, 2022 1:05 PM |
No, I’m hoping to die of a sudden heart attack before I’m in need of assisted living.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 27, 2022 1:12 PM |
Do they have hot nurses and orderlies? 😛
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 27, 2022 1:15 PM |
I’d consider it, but not if they insisted on putting me in an article!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 27, 2022 1:27 PM |
I’d sooner move into a Pit Of Vipers!!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 27, 2022 1:30 PM |
But'chare in one already r9!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 27, 2022 1:33 PM |
This is NOT an assisted living facility, R6. It's simply low/moderate income apartments and no medical assistance of any kind is provided. You must be fully functional and able to take care of yourself, (or have somebody do it for you) in order to live here.
R3, this complex is very "woke" and you would be miserable here. But then, I guess you'd be miserable anywhere because, after all, you are a miserable person. Good look living on the streets. You won't be missed.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 27, 2022 1:33 PM |
I've heard stories about illicit sex in senior living facilities. So yeah, I'd probably live there.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 27, 2022 1:37 PM |
[quote][R3], this complex is very "woke" and you would be miserable here.
Of course it is. Thanks for letting me know. WW!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 27, 2022 1:43 PM |
I don't have much feeling or ties to family so i would consider this. I would like a close colony of my logical family best, gay or straight, but we are all too far flung.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 27, 2022 1:52 PM |
ABP -- anywhere but Philly.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 27, 2022 2:01 PM |
Yes. Woke or not, who cares.
But is Monkey Pox rampant among the over 60 set?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 27, 2022 2:06 PM |
Needy Sexy Minkees
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 27, 2022 2:10 PM |
R16, we had the smallpox vaccine. CDC says we're 85%+ out of jail.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 27, 2022 2:10 PM |
Sex would be the last thing on my mind in a seniors housing.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 27, 2022 2:12 PM |
Here's a much more upscale one in a much nicer (although with a high fire risk) area.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 27, 2022 3:45 PM |
My wife and I are undecided on whether to age in place (if it's practical) or move to senior housing when the time comes. But if we opted for a senior community, I'd move out of state if necessary for a gay one.
That's assuming actual gay men and lesbians live there. Forty years from now it might be a bunch of tedious purple-haired straight women who whimsically cover their walkers in rainbows but never got any gayer than writing "Supernatural" fanfic.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 27, 2022 4:01 PM |
I identify as 66 and as a lesbian.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 27, 2022 4:09 PM |
Is this kind of gay living more a lesbian thing?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 30, 2022 11:19 AM |
Gay housing for Seniors? I already do, it's called Palm Springs!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 30, 2022 11:26 AM |
R25, well, Palm Springs is very very far from the east coast. I’d rather not move that far. Plus, not having a car is a HUGE plus as a senior

That creepy 'transgender' murderer who was in the news recently, the person who had already been arrested for two murders in the past and was let out of prison, lived in one of these facilities.
This person was the freak who chopped up a female friend. He had one of her legs in his wheel chair! He claimed to be transgender, but didn't appear to have sex reassignment surgery, he basically wore makeup and dressed like a woman. There are so many mentally ill people out there, especially committing crimes in NYC.
You never know who your neighbors are.

Two words, Cape Cod. Almost the same thing on the East Coast.

by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 30, 2022 12:25 PM |
I would so very grateful to not end up homeless, this would be an answered prayer.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 30, 2022 12:53 PM |
same here

A senior housing for gays in Boston just got vandalized and smeared with hate speech.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 30, 2022 4:17 PM |
"low/moderate income apartments"
No, thank you. I'd rather live with rich straight people than poor gay ones.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 30, 2022 5:54 PM |
100%, actually looking at 55+ communities. I'm inn CA and leaning towards Laguna Woods, CA - gay/straight gated community in Southern California.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 30, 2022 5:56 PM |
Laguna Woods Village is not in the least bit gay. It's a nice place, but I've always gotten the impression that you have to be very social and involved in everything--and there's not much privacy. (It's also expensive, although still a good deal for southern OC. The monthly fees are very high, but there are TONS of facilities.)
The other downside is that it's only for independent living, so once you need more care, you either need to bring in your own help or move to an assisted living or nursing facility.
Rossmoor in Walnut Creek (Bay Area) is its sister community. They were both built by the same developer. They all used to be called "Leisure World" (aka "Seizure World), including the one in Seal Beach, which is much more downmarket.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 30, 2022 6:11 PM |
No, I'd hate fat, old homos hitting on me.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 30, 2022 6:53 PM |
R35, thanks, I know a couple of couple gay people who live there and they seem to like it. Also, there is a gay club/organization.
I'm in Los Angeles and growing increasingly disenchanted - the crime, homeless, etc. Some of my friends what to retire and stay in LA, the others want Palm Springs or Florida. I don't like any of those choices so I think I will be on my own....however, I do want to stay in CA.
Since you seem very familiar with options, do you know anything I might be missing?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 30, 2022 7:11 PM |
R33, well, very happy to never share a roof with you either, schmuck
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 30, 2022 8:01 PM |
I'm glad the one in Philadelphia and other, similar places exist. But it's not for me.
I wouldn't qualify financially.
I hope to have my own friends around me as long as I am self-sufficient to a significant extent; don't see the point in moving to a place that's only home so long as I can look after myself.
With the right group of friends, a small-scale privatized co-op version of this idea could be appealing, more of a co-living thing: buy an old country house in Ireland or the UK, something too big for a family but which lends itself into somewhat flexibly arranged suites (and communal drawing rooms, dining rooms, etc) and hire in caterers and other staff to keep the place running. Let out any finished barns and ancillary buildings for weddings and events to offset expenses, and if a resident moves on to assisted living or nursing care, sell their shares and interview for the next member-resident.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 30, 2022 9:31 PM |
Not sure I’d want to live in an all gay place.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 30, 2022 9:38 PM |
I would

Now, kindly go fuck off to your SRO hotel room.

They built one in Chicago and it seems trouble free .
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 1, 2022 3:48 AM |
When you enter, does it smell like pee AND cum?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 1, 2022 3:56 AM |
There is a huge shortage of affordable or low income senior housing in USA, and numbers are worse for LGBT.
NYC recently opened Stonewall House, but there needs to be more.

[quote] I'm inn CA and leaning towards Laguna Woods, CA - gay/straight gated community in Southern California.
NOPE, It's not gay at all. Don't know where you are getting that idea from. Certainly nothing LGBT friendly on their website either. It's a typical over 55 retirement community. That's it. I am sure there are SOME gays there but not anymore than any other community.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 1, 2022 8:39 AM |
R42 lacks the humor gene. So touchy and easily triggered. I think you have some unresolved issues about your social status that need to be addressed with counseling Dear.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 1, 2022 8:42 AM |
yes
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 1, 2022 8:53 AM |
It would depend if it's "gay" or "lgbt".
I'm a gay man, not a fucking psycho.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 1, 2022 9:51 AM |
For those who need affordable housing that looks like a lovely place
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 1, 2022 10:39 AM |
I love it
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 1, 2022 11:25 AM |
If it were for gay men yes, but if lesbians lived there then no. Old lesbians are nasty mean fucks to most men at that point in life. Even to gay men. Although they could be handy should I need to terra-scape the hillside behind the house.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 2, 2022 3:07 AM |
I doubt lesbians want to live with men/gay men either. Separate gay men-only, lesbian-only housing sounds normal. LGBTQ+: disaster central, with too many mentally unstable ones. Murders/rapes are bound to happen too, like at r26.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 2, 2022 3:20 AM |
Lesbians would be raising the barn in one day like the Amish, gay men would be throwing the party. Which lesbians would talk trash about it while showing up with a bucket of KFC they slaved all 5 minutes for in the drive through.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 2, 2022 6:34 AM |
The article posted shows the lesbians and the gays
