New producers have said Law & Order SVU is moving in a "new direction"
She will be replaced by former Days of our Lives actress Molly Burnett

New direction means younger actress with bouncier tits and even blonder hair.

I haven't watched the show since late Season 15, but she was mediocre most of the time.
After 12 Season on the show, she was probably getting a pretty good paycheck per episode. They will be up for renewal again at the end of this upcoming season, so they probably wanted to lower the budget some to increase the chances to be renewed. She was the most expendable of the vets and would receive the least backlash from fans.

I can't believe it's been 12 years.

Molly Burnett is the worst! I hope she becomes a not-so-special victim.

She is the new cop on the block Grace Muncy

She was very mediocre. She’s very lucky she had a long run.

I’m in the minority but really like Kelly Giddish. Haven’t watched SVU since before Danny Pino left, but…

Mariska, as a producer, was in on it.
She’s being paid a fortune but can’t stand them to pay the younger, skinnier girl?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 24, 2022 11:33 PM |
R8 No she wasn't. In fact, Variety reported that Mariska (and another unnamed producer) pushed them to keep Giddish but the new showrunner got his way.
Giddish's replacement is even younger and skinnier, so your theory holds no water.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 26, 2022 2:04 PM |
How hard did Mariska push? Was it just performative?
Money was surely part of the issue. Heck, she might have given back some of her enormous salary (like the Big Bang leads did) so they could pay her more.
When you get an EP title, you can’t claim you have no power.

When Giddish's character joined, the show seemed to go in a different direction. Suddenly, viewers were treated to the home lives of the SVU detectives, and I wasn't really a fan. Giddish seemed to constantly be in strange sexual storylines with other police officers. I recently visited my dad who still watches SVU. I saw scenes where it appears she has had two children now -- both with cops, I think. One (Donal Logue) was married, right? I was sitting there wondering why I knew so much about this blonde's sex life.
Hearing about Stabler's 17 kids was enough.

I agree with r12, they've drifted so far from the interesting crime-of-passion or abuse case format where we see the law part and the order part, but they're probably and understandably out of ideas.

The only thing Dick Wolf loves more than creating his formulaic procedurals is firing the actors who bring them to life. By the time Kelli started, that kink of his was well in place. You work for him knowing the ax can fall at any moment, for any reason.

I’d move on from Mariska. She was never the tremendous actress some made her out to be, and she now moves around the squad room like Jabba the Hut.

r9 I don't get where you got that
From the article:
[quote] Kelli Giddish’s upcoming “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” exit was not her choice, [bold] nor was it a decision made by showrunner David Graziano [/bold] , Variety has learned.
so, [italic] not [/italic] the showrunner, right?

[quote] Following the exit news, producer Julie Martin promised fans via Twitter that the duo “will have a happy ending.”
I would like to see Scanavino have a happy ending

So one tepid, talentless soap bitch will be replaced by another.
The horror!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 26, 2022 4:24 PM |
Good, I hate her storylines, especially her sister and mother. I do like her dog though.

Was never a fan, didn’t find her narrative believable, & will not miss her.

Well aren't you a misogynistic piece of garbage. Why "bitch," bitch?

How did that bitch Burnett get hired? That bitch can't act.

This. 👆 I just finished reading Live From New York, the Tom Shales history of SNL. As a cost-saving effort in the early aughts, one of SNL's producers decreed no more soda in cans and switched to 2 L bottles. His inspiration? A conversation with Dick Wolf who was preparing his budget for renewal of one of the L&O series. Two liter bottles on set was Dick's idea. So much cheaper. It's the last thing I would have expected to read in that book.

I doubt this was a budget issue, as it is doubtful that Giddish salary would break the bank
If it was really a budget issue, they could've asked the cast (including Mariska) to take a 20% salary cut, I don't think anyone would say no if it meant keeping the show going

Good! Her plastic surgery was distracting.

You would think being in a SUV for 12 years she would want to be out..

People still watch this mess?

Can this new person be as bad as Jamie Gray Hyder?

NBC seems to have gone very far out of their way to make sure that this seems like a network decision. and it very well may have been. And Hargitay doesn't have power to stop a move like that if she wants to keep her own salary where it is.
Giddish's character has already had tons of ups and downs, overcome drinking and gambling addictions, had two kids from two baby daddies and graduated to senior detective. Not much room for her character to do anything other than fail again and that gets old (see Shameless, where they were forced to have emmy rossum's character forget everything she'd learned over and over).
They need fresh blood and a hot young woman for men to look at. It's good for Giddish's career too. Gives her a shot at a starring role on her own series or to take on character, supporting work that is interesting. Anyone who watched the show knows she's talented and appealing--thats how she had such a long run after being added as the hot young thing over a decade ago. Good for her. Look forward to seeing what she does next

I was watching the weekend repeats on USA, I couldn't stand the ridiculous storyline with Amanda's hillbilly trashy grifter sister, the blond who set up Amanda to kill her BF, a man the sister claimed was raping and beating her while she was pregnant. Thing is, the trash bag sister wasn't pregnant at all, she simply missed her period, she completely set up Amanda. There was an insurance policy the sister took out on the BF, putting her and Amanda's names down as the recipients. Amanda was not aware of the policy.
The sister was about to go to jail, instead she had a key to Amanda's apartment and basically took everything, including her dinner plates and furniture, from Amanda's apartment, then the trashy sister hit the road.
I forgot the actress who played Amanda's mother, that was yet another lame storyline. Think it was Virginia Madsen?
I guess the Donal Logue character will never know that one of Amanda's kids is his? The series could have gone into that situation as well as the other characters private lives. On Chris Meloni's new series, we are seeing more of his family situation, especially his crazy mother. There is nothing wrong exploring a character's private life on SVU too.
