That mall is in Massachusetts, the home of Masshole drivers. I'm surprised anyone even noticed.

R7 There are normally concrete pylons there that prevent a car from getting to the doors. The pylons had been temporarily removed for some reason, and in no time at all, a Masshole driver found her way in.

Mall doors do open to allow cars. How do you think they get cars/boats/wtf ever to display in them?

The safety post preventing cars from coming into the mall was missing after a recent previous accident, according to the article, which makes me think this has happened before.

The nearby mall has large doors that have basically a ramp in front of them specifically to allow cars in for events, like giveaways of SUVs and such. It's probably pretty easy to drive into a mall if the safety posts are gone.

So were the doors propped open, or did she drive through them? Why yes, I am too lazy to read the story.

That is a huge security risk, a terrorist could drive into the mall and blow it to pieces. Usually buildings these days have bollards as part of the design to prevent this kind of thing happening.

R26 There are bollards there normally but they had been removed temporarily. There have been 2 or 3 shootings and an attempted shooting in that mall in the last few years. I don’t go in there anymore.

This sounds like something I would do. I'm a very nervous driver with no sense of direction. I get panicky in unfamiliar environments and have gotten myself in similar circumstances as this woman. I've driven on sidewalks and running/walking trails without knowing what I was doing until people started yelling at me. I didn't even know how to put gas in my car until I was in college.

r48 its interesting that nervous drivers just keep driving instead of stopping until they get their bearings. If you keep moving you just get more lost/off route.
