I’m interested to know how they will write C.Z. Guest because she was very neutral. She wasn’t as bitchy as the other women and I think at the end she was the only one still on speaking terms with Capote.

And I agree with R5. Toby Jones is the only actor who has been able to play Capote as a real human and not a cartoon character.

Aided by a good script, Toby Jones caught his playfulness and charm. Philip Seymour Hoffman was too leaden.

CZ Guest's part will definitely be the hardest to make interesting because she was sane and down-to-earth, and if it hadn't been for her money, rather dull.

True story: I follow the Warhol Museum page on TikTok and they have young, I guess hip, looking people, definitely high school maybe college doing videos. One guy did one on Capote and did not pronounce his name correctly. Many others and myself left comments saying it needed to be corrected. Nothing was done. This week a TikTok with the director popped up and I said in that video’s comments that it needed to be corrected using the proper pronunciation of his name, as it’s not a good look for the museum. When I looked yesterday both videos were gone. I expect there will be some level of oversight on future videos.

I grew up watching Truman Capote appear on talk shows and the like in the '70s; Hoffman just kind of swanned around in that film, he wasn't anything like Truman Capote.

Reminds me when Patti LuPone opened as Maria Callas in the West End - and the critics, who all had memories of Callas appearing at the opera house and on the BBC were like, "Who is this supposed to be??" It closed rather quickly. I think it was a combination of McNally's script AND the coarse performance.

Demi Moore is in talks to join the series. I’m thinking if this is going up to the end of his life, she must be playing Joanne Carson. She was quite thin and had a very oval face as well and was quite willowy.

I wonder if Gore Vidal will be a character in the series, and if so, who will play him. We know those two legendary eldergays loathed each other.

I read the book the series will be based on, and it’s unfortunately not one of the the good new narrative nonfictions, woven together like a novel. Each chapter is basically an overview of each swan and exploration of his relationship with them, with some tie-ins and throwbacks to other women. Much of it also reads like a travel diary as he would run off to spend time with each one in a different locale. It’ll be interesting to see how they pull that off, especially all the European locations.

I then decided to read The Swans of Fifth Avenue and after a few chapters in I DNF the book as it was all repeat of what I read in the nonfiction book, but novelized, and not salaciously enough to make it much different. I think it’s a case of read either one or the other depending on where your preferences lie. I unexpectedly read another novel by this author and while she has literary aspirations, it’s mostly commercial fare dressed up .

Moore will play Ann Woodward, the woman who committed suicide when the first chapter of Answered Prayers was published in Esquire.

I think it’s very easy to imitate Capote, the challenge will be to act the role and give depth and nuance, especially as such an unsympathetic character and make us care about him.
