Other than Romper Stomper and The Nightmare Before Christmas
Does Jacob Elordi really think anyone believes he has watched most of these films
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 23, 2022 2:16 AM |
It's just such a random selection of movies.
Robert Altman, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Gus Van Sant and Richard Linklater have literally nothing in common.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 19, 2022 7:34 PM |
These are allegedly what his favorite movies from the 90s are
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 19, 2022 7:36 PM |
His agent told him to watch a couple of obscure movies to come across as deep after he got the request to put together a list. This happens all the time, it's all PR.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 19, 2022 7:38 PM |
But did he watch the movie called Elordi?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 19, 2022 7:40 PM |
None of those movies are what I would call obscure and maybe you are are underestimating him. It’s not like he listed The Bitter Tear of Petra Von Kant or Hotel Terminus.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 19, 2022 7:48 PM |
There is no way Jacob Elordi could pronounce Krzysztof Kieślowski much less have seen his work.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 19, 2022 7:56 PM |
LBH his favorite films from the 90s are Braveheart, Titanic, The Matrix and… I’ll be generous and say he’s seen Goodfellas.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 19, 2022 8:02 PM |
Did he really enjoy My Own Private Idaho?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 19, 2022 8:02 PM |
Yes it is reasonable to assume a strapping young man many have watched 8 movies.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 19, 2022 8:06 PM |
Every young actor says my own private Idaho. James Franco was hung up on it too, remember. It improves their chances at being taken seriously by the more award worthy directors.

Maybe if it was the late 90s-early aughts. No one remembers it now.

The Three Colours trilogy picked up nominations at the Oscars, Baftas and Golden Globes.
If someone at drama school looked at early 90s movies or European movies then there's every chance they would have watched the trilogy.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 19, 2022 8:16 PM |
R12 you’re so sweet in thinking Jacob Elordi went to college.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 19, 2022 8:21 PM |
R12 I watched the trilogy and at the end I wondered why it was a trilogy
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 19, 2022 8:22 PM |
I can’t pronounce Krzysztof Kieślowski either but I loved the double life of Veronique and red.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 19, 2022 8:29 PM |
R15 I think it is ChristoFF kiss-love-skee
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 19, 2022 8:31 PM |
He did a similarly pretentious interview with GQ, and it just so happened he had stacks of books all around his living room when the interviewer arrived - what a coincidence!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 19, 2022 8:43 PM |
When I was in my 20s my fave movies/music lists looked super pretentious too. But these days I'm not afraid to admit that I prefer White Chicks to The Tree of Life and Eurovision Song Contest to opera.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 19, 2022 8:47 PM |
God, he's a pretentious nozzle.
He really needs to examine Alex Pettyfer's career and see the ghost of christmas future.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 19, 2022 8:55 PM |
he's very beautiful. Any performance you'd recommand ?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 19, 2022 9:05 PM |
What's so surprising? That a 25-year-old former acting student could name eight not embarrassing titles of films he likes? There's nothing in those 8 titles that's impossible to believe he wouldn't know them. Only Three Colors: Blue might raise an eyebrow, but not for someone who studied acting in some capacity and who was as dedicated to launching an acting career. (Now if his co-star Angus Cloud had made a reference to Krzysztof Kieślowski, THAT would have made me think his agent was listening to the interview in the next room and texted him 8 film titles in response to an interview question.)
At 16 he was studying acting (among other things presumably) at St. Joseph's Nudgee College in Brisbane; and by 21 he was living in Hollywood and sharing a manager with Liam Hemsworth. Even at a stage in life when things move very fast his career got along somehow, and who wouldn't think that a teenager taking acting that seriously would trouble himself to see a few films along the way, or that he would at least absorb some opinions on a few films that had some merit beyond box office bottomline.

I think I’ll be old today and get on Datalounge and pick on Jacob Elordi.

Oh, sis.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 19, 2022 9:09 PM |
back in the day I thought his name was Elordi Jacobé
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 19, 2022 9:10 PM |
True fact: Jacob Elordi was named after French actress Irene Jacob, who starred in Three Colours: Red

No wonder he hated his association with his own movies, he’s got some good taste. Must be frustrating having to make the stuff he does.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 20, 2022 7:17 AM |
The vast majority of the movies he named are very well-known, and not just by cinephiles. His short list of ‘90s films is not nearly as pretentious as I was expecting based on the thread title.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 20, 2022 7:33 AM |
I was REALLY disappointed when I saw him naked on Euphoria. His ass is as flat as pancakes
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 20, 2022 7:40 AM |
Pretentious little closeted fag. Well, actually gigantic

You have never spoken to someone under 25 have you? I had to explain to one what the movie “Alien” was.

Most people are not on DL talking about obscure movies and acting like the 1970s/80s never ended. It's not an age thing, most people aren't interested in movies or music outside of the mainstream or what they're familiar with. People like simple and easy stories with easy resolutions. When you study acting and arts, there's a list of films that you're expected to watch and study. So it's not odd someone who went to an arts school is familiar with some European or art house titles.
When I was a teen, I had IFC, AMC and TCM loved to watch old, indie or foreign movies. The local library and Internet helped open me to a lot of alternative stuff too. Most kids grew up watching old children's movies like Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, and Nightmare on Elm Street. VCRs were a thing into the mid-2010s. My college had free archives to watch old movies and documentaries as well. And I'm only four years older than Elordi.

Timothee Chalamet went to an arts school and yet had never heard of Psycho. And Elordi didn't go to an arts school.
All his claims of knowledge of film history are performative, as best shown in a paragraph from the GQ interview I linked to earlier:
[quote]He pierced his ears because Daniel Day-Lewis did. He wears a Saint Christopher medal, like Steve McQueen did. He’s carrying his Saltburn script around in a worn leather binder that used to belong to Gary Oldman – a gift from Oldman’s son Charlie, a close friend. He’s spent years emulating these stars

Nightmare on Elm Street is a children’s movie? I wasn’t aware of that. Well, I guess it has one thing in common with Willy Wonka — characters being finished off one by one. And like the other two musical films mentioned, it has that catchy musical number performed by the jump roping girls.

R33 My mistake. Though plenty people watched horror movies as kids. My mom showed me Gremlins as a small kid. I watched The Exorcist, Carrie and Poltergeist as a kid too. Sci-Fi Channel used to rerun all the Friday the 13th movies.

I envy these types who haven’t seen the classic films yet, so much to look forward to.

I don't think one's acting ability has anything to do with watching old movies. The job of an actor is to pretend to be something they're not. If they're trained professionally to do that then they should be able to do it. I'm sure before VCRs, many actors didn't always see every well-regarded film. Plus there's non-American actors. So I don't give a shit if they haven't seen every old Hollywood movie because even if they did, it wouldn't make be able to act.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 21, 2022 12:14 PM |
LOL so you've gone from falsely claiming that acting schools make sure their students watch older films to now saying it's totally unnecessary for actors to watch old films.
And all of this is missing the point that Elordi's claims to love these films, and his wider claims of being a student of the craft, of reading hundreds of books about acting and actors, is likely pretentious made up bullshit.

The only one that's a surprise is the Kieslowski. OP sounds like a philistine.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 23, 2022 2:08 AM |
None of those are obscure.

Altman was a big influence on Anderson. And not literally.
