Is anyone watching? Tim is shrinking. Heidi is even more beautiful. And the designers seem too normal. Who will bring the drama?????

Oh. I forgot. Thanks for reminding me!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 19, 2022 5:17 AM |
OP is it still on Prime? I've only been able to find season 1 recently.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 19, 2022 5:21 AM |
Heidi had some tweaks done to her face
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 19, 2022 5:37 AM |
R2 yup, still on Prime

I like the crazy Swiss guy. Brooklyn guy is cute, loved his Champion look inspired by his dad.
First two eliminations were completely correct. Early on but I predict the Brazilian guy, Chinese lady and the Montreal guy may battle for the win.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 22, 2022 9:21 AM |
Tim is shrinking. He’s always been a gentleman of a certain age, but this is the first thing I’ve seen him in where he comes across as old. Like his body is starting to get worn down.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 22, 2022 9:38 AM |
First elimination was *not* correct; second one was. Girl with pink hair will be next to go.
Brazilian guy, Swiss guy, Chinese woman, English woman are the strongest.
French Canadian guy is going to be a problem.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 22, 2022 10:29 AM |
I don’t know why Brooklyn guy wasn’t in the top in second challenge. Amazing stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 22, 2022 1:49 PM |
This is the most talented group. I like the practical, business approach to each task, no more rooting through garbage bins for scraps nonsense. It's brilliant that viewers can buy the outfit that just won.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 23, 2022 9:50 AM |
Well Ep 4 is just fabulous. And the drama over the sewing machines was an added bonus.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 26, 2022 8:19 PM |
That was indeed a fun episode and agreed that given caliber of contestants, what they pulled off in 7 hrs was pretty cool
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 27, 2022 3:10 AM |
So glad no one was sent home in episode 4. Every single garment was fabulous and so creative.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 27, 2022 2:14 PM |
I don't know how many are watching, but this has been great. Reminds me of the early seasons of PR. The switch was good for everyone except PR, if it's even still in production.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 27, 2022 2:27 PM |
The contestants are great but Nicole Richie and that queen trying to be Simon Cowell have to go. It does make you understand how important the judges are. Heidi and Tim are so reliable that they need stronger backup. However, both black male guest judges were quite good.
Overall, it's a great season so far.

The mafia boss funeral episode will go down as one of the greatest episodes. It took the dreaded Team challenge and brilliantly revamped it so everyone got to work in their specialty, everyone knew who their character was, the result was automatically cohesive and they all had a lot of fun. It was genius on the part of Yannick to suggest it.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 28, 2022 5:00 PM |
The funeral collection was great. Great idea for being cohesive.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 28, 2022 5:02 PM |
One of the best design challenges EVAH!! What a genius idea by Yannick! Beautiful clothes and design...they are all so talented! Shame about the sewing machines, but it worked out in the end.

The Japanese woman should have been cut in the Italian funeral challenge. Her dress by far was worse than the others.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 2, 2022 6:01 AM |
R25, there was no Japanese woman in S3. But you knew that.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 2, 2022 7:01 AM |
Best season so far contestant and challenge wise, but Nicole Ritchie and the Moschino queen aren’t great judges.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 2, 2022 7:47 AM |
Jeanette is so beat down she assumed she was going home. It was sad seeing her fight to stay when she was the actual winner.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 2, 2022 7:51 AM |
If all seven contestants did shit work then the problem was the too short timeline for the challenge and lack of understanding of what to deliver on. Imagine having a queen dressed head to toe in vinyl leopard print complain that your designs are uninspiring. The fucking irony…
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 2, 2022 12:38 PM |
Sad to see Curtis go. Bring back Naomi Campbell!!!! These judges suck. If everyone was so awful in ep 5 then why even have a winner? Yannick was holding back laughter during Jeremy’s tantrum. And the biggest shocker of all......TIM WORE JEANS!!!!!!!!! Best season so far.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 2, 2022 1:00 PM |
I also like that the contestants have seamstresses that do additional work for the contestants. A lot of little details that were nagging from PR have been corrected for this show. It's a really good show and I'm actually enjoying it which I didn't think I'd say because I was so burned out on PR. But the show absolutely has to find that balance of judges again. The Leopard Queen and Nicole have to go and even though they're obviously going for a younger demographic, Nina is pretty sorely missed.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 2, 2022 1:10 PM |
I hope next season is filmed in NYC and Tim and Heidi convince Michael Kors to be a judge. He was hilarious on PR.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 2, 2022 1:53 PM |
I loved Naomi Campbell from Season 1. She is serious about fashion and added class.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 2, 2022 2:10 PM |
I'm not big on all the gender-neutral stuff (I know, I know, I'm evil, get with the times, etc.), but it's nice to have a competition show that takes things a bit more seriously. The use of seamstresses is a good choice and for the most part the challenges seem more down-to-earth. The Seven hour onewas a bit too short tho. Hope they don't restrict them to such an extreme again. And I don't care for Nicole...
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 2, 2022 2:10 PM |
I think all the designers didn’t have the same point of reference for “festival wear” as the judges. I think the judges literally wanted something you’d wear to Burning Man or Coachella. Something a bit more psychedelic that would appeal to people under 25.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 2, 2022 2:11 PM |
"Disco mango hitchhiking for a camel ride in the desert! I mean, my god, what was he thinking? It's fungus, it's lichen, it's liver fibrosis skipping class for a marijuana cigarette in the seventh grade, you know what I mean? Cat vomit on French toast! Mashed chickpeas with food coloring gone awry! It's unpalatable! Worst of all, it's MATRONLY!"
I wish Amazon would pay Michael Kors to do reaction videos like Netflix does with Katya and Trixie.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 2, 2022 2:24 PM |
I actually still enjoy PR but agree that this is about real fashion instead of gimmicks.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 2, 2022 2:25 PM |
Wait. Is Brooklyn guy the one who designs non-binary evening wear? Is there a huge market for that?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 2, 2022 2:32 PM |
As is the custom on these shows, the first contestant eliminated was the one who specialized in festival wear but I'm sure Jeremy and Nicole would have found something to bitch about if she showed.
Another refreshing twist is that these designers actually have lines already so they should be more aware of the business end of design but they've also been about the art of fashion. While Sienna showed herself to be a one trick pony, I could absolutely see her having a huge business in wedding dresses, which I believe she specializes in.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 2, 2022 2:46 PM |
I love design shows like this ome for the creativity and not so much for the game aspect of it. I like to watch creative people think and work through challenges and come up with interesting products that surprise even themselves.
I am growing less and less tolerant of these made-for-TV over-the-top judging scenarios in which creative people are chastised by judges as if they are children and as if they have been acting immorally or unethically. It's an idiotic setup.
All creative endeavors are subjective to begin with, and so unless a person doesn't actually have the skills they said they do, then whatever they create may be excellent to one person and awful to another. But no; the judges of these shows apply their tastes and eviscerate people who create things they don't like, as if they are children who beat up their siblings or killed an animal. It is really fucking annoying to me. I know TV producers feel like manufactured drama is what drives people to watch reality TV but it turns me off and I have stopped watching other shows because of it.
"We really didn't get what you were doing and so we don't like it" is fine.
Not fine: "What were you thinking! We are so disappointed in you! We thought you were better than this. You failed. We guess this is all you are capable of. Pathetic. Disappointing. You've run out of chances. You are OUT."
Gross.

Wtf is Nicole wearing in this latest social media episode? If that bedazzled, peach colored top is from House of Harlow where she is “Creative Director” then the contestants have legal recourse to have her removed as a judge. It was fucking ugly and when matched with her stringy hair and dirty eye makeup, made Nicole look like an older version of an Olsen twin.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 4, 2022 8:10 PM |
I hate that peach bedazzled jumper too. Usually Nicole has good style. Heidi is a fling drag queen though. I didn't know Germans loved so much shiny.

The prints made from photos of Yannick's and then Georgia's designs were really lovely. I don't know why everyone loved Yannick's giant pant leg dress. It reminded me of a Halloween costume. And I am pissed Mark Antoine is out.

I just watched S1 and you guys are right, Naomi was a really great judge but I suspect she was difficult to work with, despite Heidi always saying she was such a good friend. Also, the streetwear challenge in Tokyo was really fun.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 5, 2022 4:26 AM |
He's not a good judge , and it was an absurd moment that did nothing for the integrity of the show, but I would absolutely love to do that once in my life.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 5, 2022 4:59 AM |
Just a heads up. I started watching MTC3 because of this thread and I've enjoyed it so much that I went back and watched the first two seasons. This is really good, fun TV. Brings you back to the early days of PR. But talk about downgrading. Jeremy for Joseph in the judging was pretty disastrous and I hope it doesn't derail S3. I especially liked how Naomi really fought for her designers and was so articulate about it but sometimes simply saying LOVE or LIKE.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 5, 2022 3:51 PM |
Naomi was a great judge and just such a perfect resting bitch. Miss her! Altho when she was a judge, she was the Big Cool Friend for Nicole Ritchie who is always so annoying when she would mimic Naomi and say "I would wear that." Like, is that the best fucking critique you can come up with? Oh great. Two judges would wear that. Wow! Or. "I don't like this." My god, how fascinating! This year without Naomi, Nicole's judging has been better. I have only count 2 "I would wear that," so far in 6 episodes. Much improved!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 6, 2022 1:22 AM |
For judges, they need 1) a name designer and 2) a fashion magazine editor like Nina. Editors see *everything* and know what's current, what's a retread, what's selling. Tik Tok influencers? Mother of god. Models, Naomi Campbell is one of the exceptions. Most are like Heidi "I'd wear that" Klum. I think if the third judge is a buyer, that's tricky. It gets too commercial.
But mostly the producers, if they're in a budget crunch, cut out some of the razzle dazzle (a runway out in the desert) and give the designers two days to create. Or sleep. Viewers want to see interesting fashion not meltdowns and glued seams.

In S2, Gary is obviously autistic but he's amazing. The commercial and garments he did for the Drive in challenge were just wonderful and even though he seems at least a decade older than any other contestant, he oddly seems more in tune with the younger audiences.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 6, 2022 4:05 PM |
Gary doesn't try to follow the latest trend. He makes distinctive clothes in unusual prints.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 6, 2022 9:05 PM |
In any other season, Gary would have won. I like Andrea and do think she'll do well (the other Andrea too) but Gary did something so interesting unlike PR winner Gretchen who tread on similar ground. S2 finale was pretty awesome and Jeremy wasn't as obnoxious in his first season.

These last two challenges, the winning looks on Amazon were made from polyester. The red "festival" look? Shiny red polyester satin. It could not look any worse.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 7, 2022 12:15 AM |
R467 I agree. When the judges were raving about Jeannette's red abortion I was sure I was having a stroke because what they were saying made not sense.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 7, 2022 3:10 AM |
Oh, it looked dramatic on the runway with the headpiece, that was a very clever bit of styling, but with the draping and the split seams revealing a granny panty, it's not a look that was easy to translate to mass production. It wasn't intended to, but her accessible dress was so bad. Really, they just should've admitted the challenge was a failure.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 7, 2022 1:11 PM |
Let's hope we'll never see a festival challenge again on Making the Cut...clearly the designers had no reference points and didn't understand the assignment.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 7, 2022 5:21 PM |
I can completely understand not being a festival person (not my cuppa either), but fashion designers being totally unaware of what people wear to such festivals genuinely surprised me.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 7, 2022 5:59 PM |
The designers did their own thing but the judges clearly had their own ideas about what they were expecting but didn't express it when they explained the challenge. The festival designer who left first did what she called a festival evening wear but the judges didn't respond to that either so it could be the judges didn't know what they wanted or didn't know how extremely broad ranging festival wear is.

R75. Agreed. I liked the British (sorry I’m terrible with names) designers collection and pop up shop the best. The judges seemed disappointed because she ‘wowed them’ with the first few outfits and everything after that seemed ordinary. I disagree. I thought she was the most accessible.

Kieran Shipka should be a judge.

It was a letdown after last year's finale. The only real upgrade they need is to get two new judges. However, it was refreshing to have a finale with likable contestants for a change.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | September 10, 2022 3:17 AM |
I would’ve liked to have seen the festival wear designer stick around. Her rainbow skirt was beautiful and her design was completely different from all the rest. I do like that she fought to stay there, too.
Does anyone else think they use a filter on Heidi when she is judging? Her skin looks blurred.
I’m glad Yannick won. He needed the money more than the rest and I think he’s creative and will branch out.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 10, 2022 4:24 AM |
The three judges voted Yannick as winner but Christine from Amazon was not having it so she’s mentoring Raphael through a collection for the online store. She needs stuff that’s going to sell, not oversized clown pants as dresses for him/her/them.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 10, 2022 5:13 AM |
The Making the Cut-branded stuff on Amazon always has been factory outlet-quality knockoffs 'inspired by' the designers, made cheaply with cheap fabrics.
The TV series seems to have almost no relationship to the clothes they sell.
Here are clothes inspired by Yannik. It's a super-basic hoodie and People of Walmart sweatpants with a print similar to the one he showed with green marbling.
I don't really get it. Georgia's clothes actually looked like clothes that could be translated into slightly better versions of the basics Amazon actually sells.
Rafael's clothes because they are so colorful look high end and striking when made well with rich fabrics but will look like Dollar General clothing aisle stuff if made with polyester and not well fitted.
Is Amazon ever going to sell upside-down pants-blazers? Absolutely not. Is Amazon going to sell a blazer whose collar is around the crown of the head? Never. Is Amazon going to sell a deconstructed blazer with the middle replaced by ribbons? No.
I guess they just make the show as a show to compete with Project Runway and maybe to remind viewers they can buy clothes on Amazon? But three seasons have wrapped now and consistently, buyers on Amazon say the clothes they've bought from the Making the Cut line are cheap looking, cheaply made and sized wrong,
by Anonymous | reply 81 | September 10, 2022 11:09 AM |
I checked out Georgia Hardinge’s website and she is the real deal. Yannik’s brand is poor college student club kid.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 10, 2022 3:26 PM |
I have no clue how Yannik won. There was nothing remotely commercial about his clothing, and I thought the point of the show was to create a *global* brand. Yannik’s clothes have limited appeal. He only won because he was a big vacuous supermodel like Heidi, and we all know Heidi picks the winners. That’s why Raphael ended up getting the mentorship. His print and designs are actually things Amazon can cheaply recreate and sell. I mean, $70 for that mint green sweatshirt that looks Dollar General is how they translate Yannik? Yeesh.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 10, 2022 3:55 PM |
Of the three finalists Georgia will probably have the most successful business.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | September 10, 2022 5:30 PM |
I agree that Heidi picks the winner and the others agree to keep their jobs. Rafael was the winner IMO, Yannik was the most "fashion forward" but almost unwearable. He won with the "sustainability" argument. If he had such a great business plan/background why did 8 other Swiss investors reject him? Also, who wants a shirt that came through the mail without an envelope? Hello? No one even questioned this. The million dollars is going for that??
Even though I've never done drag (yet), I wanted to wear everything Rafael sent down the runway, not for the look but for the feel that each piece conveyed. It was joyous. Yannik was thrilling but ridiculous for almost any context. Alpine Ice vs. Brazilian Flow. The Brazilian will get you laid.

Do we know what Yannick’s offensive tattoo is? He had to wear a bandage over it all season on his arm.
As this is a US produced show I’m expecting it was something the rest of the world would find titillating but US viewers would be shocked by (a swear word, a penis, boobs…)
by Anonymous | reply 87 | September 11, 2022 3:50 AM |
R87 I think the Brazilian designer's jacket had boobs on it, so it's probably not boobs. Maybe it's Katht Griffin holding up a mask of Trump's face covered in ketchup.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | September 11, 2022 8:40 AM |
Heidi loved Yannik. It was so obvious that I fully expected Yannik would win from early in the season—and so I thought it all might be a setup for a 'twist' in which he wouldn't be named the winner after all, since the favoritism was so glaring. Heidi kept calling him cute and she hugged him in his little fake shop. It didn't seem like the Amazon lady had much influence over who would win.
Amazon is going to make bargain-basement polyester versions of the winner's clothes, anyway, so it hardly matters from an Amazon perspective who wins.
I do think Georgia was smart to realize this and downgrade her fabric sculptures to photographic images of them that could be printed on stretchy polyster tee shirts for Amazon knockoffs.
I think it was a little off putting that Georgia said a few times, "I've done it. I've cracked the code and I know how to make what will sell." That set her on the opposite end of the spectrum from Yannik, with him being impractically conceptual and her coming across as artlessly commercial.
I love Yannik's personality. His appearance doesn't hurt, either; despite all the distracting piercings and so on, he still has a model's body and face. Apparently, the combination of looking good and being likable was worth a million bucks. If he looked like Rafael or Mondo G, he probably wouldn't have been selected to win.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | September 11, 2022 9:53 AM |
R83 From a revue perspective, Amazon doesn’t really care which designer wins. The winning designer’s clothing, accessible or not, is not going to produce a significant amount of revenue. This is just a branding/marketing play for Amazon.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | September 11, 2022 2:04 PM |
*revenue perspective
by Anonymous | reply 91 | September 11, 2022 2:04 PM |
Which is why we see through the Amazon bullshit, R90. And why Yannik shouldn’t have been the winner. I don’t see a huge market for upside down pant leg tube dresses that double as their own packaging. Based on what the show pretends to be, the one who checked the most Amazon boxes was Georgia.

Random Project Runway comment: I just read an interview with Christopher Palu, from when Project Runway was brought back to Bravo. He was asked what he thought about Christian Siriano being brought in as the mentor to replace Tim Gunn, and he said he can't watch it without getting upset because of how Siriano has been misrepresented. He said that the producers have depicted Siriano as a great success on his own merits to put out a false idea that he made it big on his own talents, whereas the production invested millions of dollars in him. He said that the show threw a big party for Siriano when he won, which it never did for any other winner, and it underwrote his business from the beginning and brokered relationships so that it could claim a great success came from the show, because fewer and fewer designers were applying to be on the show every year and they needed to prove they were finding great talent. He said he felt duped and seemed offended that Siriano played along with the story he was self-made when he was given preferential treatment and misled all the designers who followed by pretending being on the show, rather than being financially supported after the show made him a success.
I wonder if we will ever hear of any of the Making the Cut designers after the show. A million dollars is a lot of money to give to someone never to be heard of again.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | September 13, 2022 10:14 AM |
Yannik's final collection was very conceptual, he didn't care about making it accessible (except for that big shirt dress)
Rafi had a bright, colorful collection--loved his Los Angeles print--full of designs that could be altered for every day wear.
Yannik won but the Amazon lady was clearly taken with Rafi so she offered to mentor him.
Now go to the MTC store on Amazon.
Yannik's whack designs are there, the backless dress now has a back, but the others are the same and it's all made from white cotton twill.
Rafi's is mostly new stuff, sleeveless mock-turtle shells in lime, hot pink, etc. The LA print. And it's all done in 100% polyester. It's crap.
So somehow Yannik was able to control his production where Rafi could not. I find that interesting.
I don't think Yannik's will be a huge success, it's just too avant garde for Amazon shoppers but he did end up with a better quality line.

Sorry, between the final two, Rafael should've won based on what this show is about.
And this Yannik stuff is laughable when you think about the fact that he's working with Amazon:
maison blanche believes it is necessary to address the discourse of taboo topics by means of conceptual fashion and to create a stage for interaction. socio-political issues, the defamation and repression of minorities, especially the lgbtqia+ community, as well as gender issues and feminism, form the content of the collections. maison blanche makes queer anti fashion. queer within the meaning of different, abnormal or not according to expectations. it`s subversive content is reflected in the deconstruction and deposition of codes. it forms a side-stream to the mainstream and serves subcultures. maison blanche`s anti fashion takes the liberty to create its own (ab)normal. it shits on the maxims of action and codes of behavior of the masses, but influences them. it rewrites unwritten rules, completely detached from the oppressive ideas of social ideologies and the fashion industry. maison blanche condemns the common practices of the fashion industry and therefore wants to establish itself far away from this circus. maison blanche conceives fashion, especially skirts & dresses on a man's body and thus aims to expand the rules of conduct. as a wearer it wishes much more than a certain gender, people of all genders with a similar mindset.

[quote]Do we know what Yannick’s offensive tattoo is? He had to wear a bandage over it all season on his arm.
[quote]I asked Yannik about a minor mystery: What tattoos did he have to cover for television? “Some were super simple, like a QR code,” he told me. Also, “I have a beer can on the back of my arm.” The QR code actually works, and while it usually points to his website, he’s redirected it to his Instagram account now.
