Anne was well liked in Hollywood. She had a good heart
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 19, 2022 4:05 AM |
Yes OP, Anne was a saint. She was a warm, generous, grounded , smart, responsible human being; Her entire life was an act of strength, stability and generosity towards all people. We all had a friend in Anne. She was a beacon of joy. Her untimely death is completely uncomprehensible,.. until you read it spiritually as a modern retelling of saint Joan. (and also , her car was remote controlled by Ellen De generes).
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 19, 2022 4:08 AM |
I always found her to be really hot.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 19, 2022 4:09 AM |
She was such a liar though. I distrust anyone whose narrative of their personal relationships veer from "This person is the alpha and omega of perfect" to "This person victimized me." From Steve Martin to Ellen DeGeneres to Coley Laffoon to James Tupper - and these were simply her public relationships - they all began as the avatar as perfection and ended as, by her account, low lifes.
I think she tried to ride the "Ellen is a bitch" wave too. Ellen blackmailed her? Ellen was in no position in 2000 when she and AH broke up. Her own career was in limbo. She lacked that clout.
Anne Heche's IMDB shows the usual "This may be the new hot young thing!" in the late 1990s when she was with Ellen and tapered off to more low budget stuff before she broke up with Ellan. Being with Ellen didn't help her box office, as I suspect was her agenda, and the star making machinery had begun to ease off after the desultory returns on her studio movies WHILE she was with Ellen from Volcano to Six Days Seven Nights to Donnie Brasco to I know What You Did Last Summer to Psycho. It wasn't Ellen blackballing her from 2000 onwards. Her career had shifted to independents and lower budgets before the end of the 1990s (barely before). She wasn't a star.
And how could she complain Ellen held her back when she worked constantly while with Ellen? It's not her fault those big budget films tanked.

It is very sad and disturbing to see anyone die such an agonizing and horrific death. One can only hope it wasn't as terrifying and painful as it looked. No one deserves to die that way. We will probably never know if this was as intentional as it seemed to be or the result of driving impaired. Either way the punishment didn't seem to fit the crime. She helped others by donating her organs and I admire her for that. She paid a brutal price for her mistake. RIP.

R22 is correct, most people put on a ventilator are put into an induced coma or semi coma. It's not that they can feel pain on a ventilator, but people with naturally thrash around/panic and try to dislodge something that is stuck inside their throat like that.

r7, have you considered that people from abusive backgrounds seek out relationships with abusive people because that's their learned comfort zone? Are you aware that women who have been sexually assaulted are more likely to be sexually assaulted again because their resulting 'victim' body language tips off predators subconsciously that they're an easy target? Do you genuinely believe that, despite every single account to the contrary, that Ellen DeGeneres is a nice person? Do you know anything about human psychology at all? Anything?

Anne was one of the most talented performers ever. She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay people were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her spaceship and she theirs.

Heche was a gifted and fascinating actress but like most of us very complex. People are not either innocent pure angels or monsters. She was very damaged and genuinely mentally ill. I would also wager probably over indulged by the people around her. What a sad conclusion.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 24, 2022 7:27 AM |
She was a celebrity, with money and a bad habit.
She was driving around with a bottle of booze, intoxicated, risking lives- and likely took a bad batch of street drugs because she’d been cut off from the good stuff- either couldn’t refill a script, or her dealer cut her off.
YET-if anyone could afford the very best of rehabilitation, drug counseling or therapy- where a doctor or counselor would’ve reviewed and tipped her off that she had a serious problem and should seek help- it was her.
There’s the great person, then there’s the alcoholic/drug addict.
Speaking as someone 11 years sober, this wasn’t Anne’s first rodeo, it’s a sad ending I’ve heard many times before, but was all on her, her reaction to life’s ups and downs, and not being able to handle life on life’s terms. All types of people get sober without an iota of help from family or friends, you cannot blame Ellen or anyone else for Anne’s choices.
This would be an entirely different story if she mowed down a few pedestrians or a baby carriage along the way, MARY!
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 24, 2022 7:40 AM |
r61, she was paying alimony and child support to two exhusbands and her eldest was off to college and she was doing Lifetime movies. She was also living in an apartment. And doing a podcast (that no one watched) for extra income. I highly doubt she had much, if any, extra scratch to go to Hazeldon.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 24, 2022 8:25 AM |
R62, like I said, this didn’t come out of thin air, Anne likely has had issues for many years, even decades- yet could’ve gotten sober even if she was broke. Many people lose absolutely everything before they do. I’m not blaming her because I was just like her long ago-
My experience is that’s much more difficult for those that have money, notoriety or prestige to get sober- but they do, one they get their ego out of the way.

R25 Anne lacks credibility. Saying Ellen blackballed her when Ellen herself was struggling is bullshit and just her attempt to get some spotlight off Ellen's cancellation. Ellen had no clout at the time, certainly not in film.
Her ghosting Ellen and then wandering around naked in someone's yard may have made a couple of projects think twice but that's not Ellen's fault. If her movies had been hits she'd have been hired anyway.
You are assuming all of these relationships were abusive. I think that's just Anne's way of blaming the other person and her aversion to accountability. There's no prior evidence people like Laffoon and Tupper were or are abusive.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 27, 2022 8:03 PM |
R48 the song LB wrote about her was "Down on Rodeo Drive." I just looked it up.
He says this about the song and I'm not sure what he means completely:
"That was about Anne Heche, who I was dating for about a year. I think more broadly it was just about people who spend all their time window shopping through their life. I don’t mean literally window shopping. I mean looking through the window at stuff and not going in and engaging, or keeping a distance. Even relationships that you’ve had for a long time, a lot of people don’t get beyond a certain point. I mean, I could be one of them. I don’t really know, but it’s the idea of connection through the glass. It was just an analogy to being down on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and window shopping looking at all the pretty stuff."

I’m the AA bitch again. I’ve met a LOT of women like Anne, most of them have coasted awhile on their good looks, and then show up in the rooms only when they can no longer land the part or be depended on to show up to work. Nearly every one of them comes in, embraces the Program, but puts their own spin in it. THIS is where they and all us other other addicts and alcoholics fail miserably and either die and get another chance.
The soft spoken, delicate, unassuming, wallflower type people that blend in and are agreeable are the WORST to get sober, because they clean up so well by Monday and always show up for work on time- I should know because I was one of them for a very long time.
Ego. It’s all about ego, and just how much you can get away with using or drinking- before you die (or get sober).
