What was your fave Watley song??
R5 is definitely my favorite.

I wished she kept making albums. Maybe move to the UK where dance music still survived in the 2000s. She had a long discography though but stopped in 2006

I love all of her 80s songs. In the early 90s her music fell off a cliff.
Of her latter day songs, her Masters at Work collaboration "I Love To Love" is probably my favorite.

Her "Larger Than Life" LP is a monument of 80s dance-pop. She was so stylish.

R17, great minds think alike.

99% of this thread is one person. Absolutely insane.

R21 wanna eat my ass?

After You, Who? from the AIDS album Red, Hot, and Blue.
She could stage a comeback with a standards album.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 17, 2022 1:14 AM |
"Cars That Go Boom." Wait, no. That was someone else.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 17, 2022 1:49 AM |
I love her UK single “Where the Boys Are.” It was before her big solo debut.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 17, 2022 1:54 AM |
A Night to Remember... when she was with Shalimar!!!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 17, 2022 3:30 AM |
R26 L'Trimm, thank you!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 17, 2022 3:52 AM |
Her entire 1st album!!
R27 really shows how much Andry Cymone helped launch her solo career. He was Prince's childhood friend and bandmate and co-wrote and produced Jody's album (probably played most of the instruments too) .THey were secretly married.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 17, 2022 4:28 AM |
Jody deserved a bigger career. She does come across as a bit bitter, perhaps because she never got the respect or longevity she deserved.
Her look, sound and fashion style were so stylish. I preferred her to Janet and occasionally, Madonna. I thought Larger Than Life was better than Like a Prayer and Rhythm Nation 1814.

R30 "Looking for a New Love" is pure Prince.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 17, 2022 4:49 AM |
My favorite thing she’s done is Andre Cymone 🤭
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 17, 2022 4:55 AM |
Let’s go OT and talk about Donna Pescow.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 17, 2022 5:00 AM |
I love the George Michael duet "Learn To Say No" from her debut.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 17, 2022 5:12 AM |
Op that was my fave song too, I scrolled all the way to here & thought no one had mentioned it. It’s such a unique song!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 17, 2022 5:21 AM |
Still A Thrill is EVEN MORE Prince like!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 17, 2022 2:05 PM |
Definitely Still A Thrill, I love that husky voice she uses.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 18, 2022 12:23 AM |
I sure love Friends (feat. Eric B. & Rakim) from 1989
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 30, 2022 7:33 PM |
The first album is still her best—all the songs are great.
By the third album, however, she’s was petering out.
I wonder what she’s up to nowadays
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 30, 2022 7:37 PM |
"If I'm Not In Love" always got me to the dance floor
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 30, 2022 7:43 PM |
I know she was really popular for awhile, and even I enjoyed some of her hits, but honestly her voice isn't all that great. She's no Sade.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 30, 2022 9:56 PM |
Sade isn’t a great vocalist r43. Bad example.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 30, 2022 9:59 PM |
r44 you obviously haven't listened to much Sade. Your response is invalid.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 30, 2022 10:35 PM |
Not to mention Sade has been relevant since the 80s and continues to be popular. She doesn't churn out crap album after album, but she does continue to produce and tour on her own schedule. Obviously she's doing *something* right.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 30, 2022 10:36 PM |
Oh shut the fuck up, numb nuts.r45 r46. I have listened to Sade and bought her music since 1984. You stupid basted. Go stir up sit in your desperate Blondie thread shit-Stan.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 30, 2022 10:39 PM |
R45, r46 loves to eat dog shit.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 30, 2022 10:40 PM |
Huh r47? What are you on about? What Blondie thread? If there is one, I've never visited nor commented on it, much less started it.
Always love when people on here accuse you of being someone you're not. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 30, 2022 10:41 PM |
[quite] Definitely Still A Thrill, I love that husky voice she uses.
Jody had hoped to persuade Grace Jones to sing it with her but Grace didn't do collaborations -- so she did her best Grace impression.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 30, 2022 10:42 PM |
R49 fuck right off. You sack of shit.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 30, 2022 10:53 PM |
Love Still a Thrill!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 30, 2022 11:40 PM |
r51 Did Bill Lumberg tell you he was going to need you to go ahead and come in tomorrow to work? Did he also tell you he's going to need you to come in on Sunday as well? You seem awfully grumpy for a Friday afternoon before the weekend.
Here's a virtual hug, hon; you obviously need it; you seem to be just oozing anger over something so innocuous. Smiles to you as well.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 30, 2022 11:41 PM |
Fuck you!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 30, 2022 11:44 PM |
Ain't nobody listening to Jody Twatley.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 30, 2022 11:50 PM |
Did Howard Hewitt treat her badly when they were in that group (can’t recall the name) together?
Hewitt has some incredible solo albums too
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 30, 2022 11:54 PM |
They’re not listening to that talentless cunt Cassie.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 30, 2022 11:59 PM |
[quote]I wonder what she’s up to nowadays
She’s still performing and is active on social media. She posts her morning walks and little tea/coffee talk videos on Facebook where she sings variations of her hits and gives pep talks and such. She usually signs off her videos with what has become her signature phrase, “Wattage.”

Can’t recall the name??? It’s Shalamar, bitch!

I'm sorry to break this to the OP, but the world has forgotten about Jody Watley.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 1, 2022 3:39 AM |
R60, who is Janet?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 1, 2022 3:57 AM |
^^Oh, RiRi, she's just the person you've modeled a portion of your look and stage shows after.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 1, 2022 5:04 AM |
R6, that video absolutely transfixed me as a gayling. It was the first time I considered that black men were also sexy (I hadn't given the matter any thought before) and also that men viewed by women were a thing. Plus it's a great song and Jody is so glamorous.

Full of Fire. Second Time Around. w/Shalamar

That Shalamar song, night to remember, is one of my favorite songs of all time. Ciara favors her.

FYI... I recently discovered "The Jody Watley Show" on SiriusXM - The Groove. New episodes appear monthly. She talks about her life, music, and fashion. Celebrity guests too. In February she had En Vogue and TLC. March 2024 celebrates Women's History Month. I haven't listened to this episode in it's entirety but it's available on the SXM app. The February episode was interesting and fun to listen to. She has a great new single out too.

Jody Watley - Everlasting
I like this, her new single. Old school r&b vibes.
