Looks like they went to Party City.
CZJ doesn’t look a day over 23.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 16, 2022 3:26 PM |
Guzman is tragically miscast.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 16, 2022 3:26 PM |
Luis Guzman is hideous. Gomez is supposed to be dashing & charming.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 16, 2022 3:27 PM |
Guzman is one of the ugliest people ever to be born.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 16, 2022 3:27 PM |
Were the Addams' always Hispanic or is this a reimagining?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 16, 2022 3:28 PM |
Guzman is one of my favorite character actors and I LOVE CZJ with her beautiful self.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 16, 2022 3:29 PM |
You can just tell this will be a disaster from the cast photo. Imagine that little troll kissing CZJ’s perfectly exfoliated arm. Cringe.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 16, 2022 3:29 PM |
The original TV show was good. The 90s movies were perfect. This will be horrendous.
The movies were perfect and better than the show, why mess with perfection.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 16, 2022 3:32 PM |
CZJ is good casting for Morticia. But, Luis Guzman is going to suck balls as Gomez. Jenna Ortega is shit actress who for some reason Hollywood is desperate to make happen.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 16, 2022 3:45 PM |
CZJ might make an acceptable Morticia. I remember being appalled when i heard Raul Julia was cast as Gomez, but he was absolutely perfect in the role.
R5, Addams himself said that Gomez had Latin blood and later speculated that his father or grandfather had married into some branch of the landowning clans of southern California, who retained ownership after the territories passed out of Spanish control.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 16, 2022 3:46 PM |
CZJ looks like CZJ in a black dress. Yawn.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 16, 2022 3:47 PM |
Gomez looked hideous in the comic strip.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 16, 2022 3:47 PM |
Ruined already no thanks
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 16, 2022 3:48 PM |
R11 wym CZJ looks SEXY. like feed me Mommy...
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 16, 2022 3:50 PM |
Luiz Guzman is a terrible actor who gets a ton of work. He’s one very lucky guy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 16, 2022 3:50 PM |
R12 is correct, Gomez was borderline deformed in the comic and the joke was that as a rich and cultured man he could of course attract an elegant wife.
Morticia herself - while certainly upper class - was also rather more disturbing-looking in the cartoons.
In any case it appears that Wednesday will be the primary focus and her parents will be background characters.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 16, 2022 3:52 PM |
Guzman looks like Theresa Guidice!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 16, 2022 3:54 PM |
Lauren Sanchez (Bezo's squeeze) and CZJ = separated at birth or the same plastic surgeon ?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 16, 2022 3:55 PM |
Gomez should be somewhat attractive. You know, dark but refined with a lot of big dick energy. Not looking like Jose el gordo from the bodega.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 16, 2022 3:58 PM |
I thought Guzman was amusing as the parking lot cashier in that Frasier episode where he refuses to pay.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 16, 2022 3:59 PM |
John Astin was not terribly good looking, but you believed he could be sexy and romantic and appealing.
Luis Guzman is just straight up disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 16, 2022 4:06 PM |
Comic strip? COMIC STRIP?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 16, 2022 4:09 PM |
I don’t get most of the funnies in the New Yorker. Why are they even “funny?”
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 16, 2022 4:14 PM |
Looks okay. Morticia looks too healthy though.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 16, 2022 4:18 PM |
Gomez is indeed short and hideous in Charles Addams' original comics. That this new effort isn't a remake of the TV show or movies is somewhat refreshing.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 16, 2022 4:20 PM |
Pugsley isn't fat anymore I see.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 16, 2022 4:21 PM |
Ape-type.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 16, 2022 4:24 PM |
They should’ve gone with Adrian Zmed as Gomez. He’s animated and can act. With the right styling he could pull it off.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 16, 2022 4:25 PM |
Yes, R28, but they weren't doing it at the Opa-Locka Dinner Theater.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 16, 2022 4:26 PM |
R21 calling the homely Guzman "straight up disgusting" reveals what a disgusting person you are.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 16, 2022 5:29 PM |
But Guzman is an ugly man. He looks like a killer pig.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 16, 2022 5:49 PM |
R5 He’s been Hispanic for a number of iterations now. Raul Julia, Oscar Isaac, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 16, 2022 5:51 PM |
Raul Julia and Guzman are both boriqua. I'm pretty sure Guzman considers himself afro latino. Was watching some documentary or something on the film, Breakin' and NYC b-boy culture where he referred to himself as such.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 16, 2022 6:48 PM |
Netflix?
Pssssh, no.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 17, 2022 3:35 PM |
R34 I like the piranhas.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 17, 2022 3:38 PM |
So basically, they took all the leftover scripts they have for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and repurposed them into this.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 17, 2022 4:10 PM |
Netflix is getting The Munsters and The Addams Family both at the same time. It is like 1964-1966 again. I find it very exciting.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 17, 2022 4:14 PM |
Puerto Ricans can certainly be beautiful, but there's a distinctive ugly Puerto Rican look and Guzman has it. So does Sonia Sotomayor and Casanova from "Project Runway", if anyone remembers him.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 17, 2022 4:18 PM |
The late stand-up comic Rick Aviles (Willie Lopez, "Ghost") might have been a good Gomez. He may have played a mean, murdering thug, but in other films I've seen him in, he could be very funny even when not playing a funny guy. Guzman can be funny too. Just glad that Hispanic actors are getting parts that doesn't involve them pulling out a gun or a knife or always beating someone up
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 17, 2022 4:54 PM |
I think John Leguizamo as Gomez would have been a much better choice.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 17, 2022 5:43 PM |
You guys just always want to see a man you can fap too especially if they are ethnic. Grow up.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 17, 2022 5:47 PM |
THAT'S supposed to be suave "Latin Lover" Gomez? Just awful.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 17, 2022 5:55 PM |
I think Guzman looks amusing. The Addams were freaks.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 17, 2022 5:58 PM |
R5 Gomez was always Hispanic. They were supposed to be 1920s generic European bohemians/ occultists.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 17, 2022 6:01 PM |
Antonio Banderas would have been good if they were looking for a Raul Julia type. Though very clearly they were not.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 17, 2022 6:01 PM |
r33 r39 Don't forget about ME?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 17, 2022 6:04 PM |
I'm so tired of Tim Burton. He needs to retire and stop directing adaptation after adaptation. He offers nothing that the original source didn't have. Plus why doesn't he still create original stuff like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, A Nightmare Before Christmas or Frankenweenie? Or make another mature film like Ed Wood?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 17, 2022 6:06 PM |
R42 Sounds good to me!
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 17, 2022 6:06 PM |
R49 Morticia, Gomez and the kids could break out into a fun upbeat hip hop number about embracing their heritage and achieving their dreams (without forgetting where they come from.) Maybe set it in a dingy laundromat?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 17, 2022 6:07 PM |
Lin-Manuel Miranda would make a fantastic Aunt Becky-style villain for an Addams Family reboot.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 17, 2022 6:09 PM |
Guzman stood out immediately and not in a good way. It’s like Boardwalk Empire, love Buscemi, but he was so miscast in the lead role.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 17, 2022 6:13 PM |
Gomez is supposed to be short, fat and ugly but still suave and charming. Guzman has that first part down but not the second.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 17, 2022 6:18 PM |
Is this a prequel to "Friday?"
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 17, 2022 6:22 PM |
The closest actor we have to Raul Julia is Oscar Isaac (see attached gif), but he’s already voiced Gomez in the animated movies. The Gomez they’re going for in this adaptation is the Gomez from the original Charles Addams comics, who is not suave. He’s…ugly and portly. That’s why they went with someone like Luis Guzman.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 17, 2022 7:00 PM |
[quote] THAT'S supposed to be suave "Latin Lover" Gomez? Just awful.
Once again: it's clear Tim Burton is going back to the original Charles Addams cartoons as his source material, not the later sitcom.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 17, 2022 7:21 PM |
Who cares if he's going back to the cartoons? No one wants to look at Guzman's hideous face.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 17, 2022 7:22 PM |
Thanks for being everyone's spokesperson, r59. We chose well when we elected you to that position.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 17, 2022 7:24 PM |
Oh, hahahahahahaha R60. Man, that's hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 17, 2022 7:33 PM |
This cartoon from the 90s was very faithful to the original New Yorker cartoons.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 17, 2022 7:54 PM |
Guzman is an Uncle Fester, not a Gomez.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 17, 2022 7:59 PM |
Wow I’m out. Going from Raul Julia to Guzman is such a downgrade. Raul Julia made you want to have sex with him. Guzman makes you wanna barf.
Hate the straight stereotype that beautiful women fall in love with butt ass ugly guys.
Casting Guzman would’ve made sense if Morticia was ugly too but instead it’s the beautiful CZJ.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 17, 2022 9:00 PM |
R50 Wholly original content is hard to create. Time after time.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 17, 2022 9:09 PM |
I’m withholding judgment for now, not that I’ll watch it.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | August 17, 2022 9:09 PM |
Tim Burton has become unendurably ham-handed and unerringly misses the point of whatever he's filming. Cf. "Willy Wonka" and "Dark Shadows."
Why does Wednesday's school in the trailer around 00:40 have a bust of Terry Sweeney as Nancy Reagan?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 17, 2022 9:10 PM |
I checked out the preview and it is typical Tim Burton - tries too hard and too over-the-top. I'll pass.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 17, 2022 9:31 PM |
R67 that is sly wit.
