First Look At Addams Family in “Wednesday”

CZJ doesn’t look a day over 23.

Guzman is tragically miscast.

Luis Guzman is hideous. Gomez is supposed to be dashing & charming.

Guzman is one of the ugliest people ever to be born.

Were the Addams' always Hispanic or is this a reimagining?

Guzman is one of my favorite character actors and I LOVE CZJ with her beautiful self.

You can just tell this will be a disaster from the cast photo. Imagine that little troll kissing CZJ’s perfectly exfoliated arm. Cringe.

The original TV show was good. The 90s movies were perfect. This will be horrendous.

The movies were perfect and better than the show, why mess with perfection.

CZJ is good casting for Morticia. But, Luis Guzman is going to suck balls as Gomez. Jenna Ortega is shit actress who for some reason Hollywood is desperate to make happen.

CZJ might make an acceptable Morticia. I remember being appalled when i heard Raul Julia was cast as Gomez, but he was absolutely perfect in the role.

R5, Addams himself said that Gomez had Latin blood and later speculated that his father or grandfather had married into some branch of the landowning clans of southern California, who retained ownership after the territories passed out of Spanish control.

CZJ looks like CZJ in a black dress. Yawn.

Gomez looked hideous in the comic strip.

Luiz Guzman is a terrible actor who gets a ton of work. He’s one very lucky guy.

R12 is correct, Gomez was borderline deformed in the comic and the joke was that as a rich and cultured man he could of course attract an elegant wife.

Morticia herself - while certainly upper class - was also rather more disturbing-looking in the cartoons.

In any case it appears that Wednesday will be the primary focus and her parents will be background characters.

Gomez should be somewhat attractive. You know, dark but refined with a lot of big dick energy. Not looking like Jose el gordo from the bodega.

I thought Guzman was amusing as the parking lot cashier in that Frasier episode where he refuses to pay.

John Astin was not terribly good looking, but you believed he could be sexy and romantic and appealing.

Gomez is indeed short and hideous in Charles Addams' original comics. That this new effort isn't a remake of the TV show or movies is somewhat refreshing.

Raul Julia and Guzman are both boriqua. I'm pretty sure Guzman considers himself afro latino. Was watching some documentary or something on the film, Breakin' and NYC b-boy culture where he referred to himself as such.

So basically, they took all the leftover scripts they have for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and repurposed them into this.

Netflix is getting The Munsters and The Addams Family both at the same time. It is like 1964-1966 again. I find it very exciting.

Puerto Ricans can certainly be beautiful, but there's a distinctive ugly Puerto Rican look and Guzman has it. So does Sonia Sotomayor and Casanova from "Project Runway", if anyone remembers him.

The late stand-up comic Rick Aviles (Willie Lopez, "Ghost") might have been a good Gomez. He may have played a mean, murdering thug, but in other films I've seen him in, he could be very funny even when not playing a funny guy. Guzman can be funny too. Just glad that Hispanic actors are getting parts that doesn't involve them pulling out a gun or a knife or always beating someone up

I think John Leguizamo as Gomez would have been a much better choice.

You guys just always want to see a man you can fap too especially if they are ethnic. Grow up.

Antonio Banderas would have been good if they were looking for a Raul Julia type. Though very clearly they were not.

I'm so tired of Tim Burton. He needs to retire and stop directing adaptation after adaptation. He offers nothing that the original source didn't have. Plus why doesn't he still create original stuff like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, A Nightmare Before Christmas or Frankenweenie? Or make another mature film like Ed Wood?

R49 Morticia, Gomez and the kids could break out into a fun upbeat hip hop number about embracing their heritage and achieving their dreams (without forgetting where they come from.) Maybe set it in a dingy laundromat?

Lin-Manuel Miranda would make a fantastic Aunt Becky-style villain for an Addams Family reboot.

Guzman stood out immediately and not in a good way. It’s like Boardwalk Empire, love Buscemi, but he was so miscast in the lead role.

Gomez is supposed to be short, fat and ugly but still suave and charming. Guzman has that first part down but not the second.

Is this a prequel to "Friday?"

The closest actor we have to Raul Julia is Oscar Isaac (see attached gif), but he’s already voiced Gomez in the animated movies. The Gomez they’re going for in this adaptation is the Gomez from the original Charles Addams comics, who is not suave. He’s…ugly and portly. That’s why they went with someone like Luis Guzman.

Once again: it's clear Tim Burton is going back to the original Charles Addams cartoons as his source material, not the later sitcom.

Tim Burton has become unendurably ham-handed and unerringly misses the point of whatever he's filming. Cf. "Willy Wonka" and "Dark Shadows."

Why does Wednesday's school in the trailer around 00:40 have a bust of Terry Sweeney as Nancy Reagan?

I checked out the preview and it is typical Tim Burton - tries too hard and too over-the-top. I'll pass.
