Certainly none of the attributes you described, OP. To me, its all about how you treat other people and animals. It has nothing to do with wealth, but rather, how you use that wealth. Do you contribute something to the world, or merely exist to be seen in it?

Oh god, “class” has to do with taste & money, and how well you “tolerate” certain types. It has nothing to do with being a bleeding heart.

To me, Tom Ford is the quintessential “classy gay.” Unfortunately, most gays who TRY to be classy overdo it…putting them squarely in Andy Cohen territory.

"Classy" is a word mainly used by rubes and social climbers. People with actual class don't announce it.

R21, I’m not sure an Indian can be considered a classy. Usually those with money tend to be ostentatious with their wealth and not particularly well-rounded in terms of their familiarity of art and culture.

"Old school" classy gays would be people like Tim Gunn (formerly of Project Runway), actor John Gielgud, composer Samuel Barber, conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, authors Armistead Maupin, Andrew Holleran, E M Forster, lots of gay clothing and interior designers, some artists, dancers, a few (very few) actors who are out and lead authentic lives. But those are just the visible ones. I think all over the world, there are lots of classy gay men. To me, they would be erudite people, people who are curious about the arts and the lives of other people, who take an interest in a wide variety of topics, who try to do good in their communities, serving on boards of museums or symphonies., who don't spend all of their lives trying to tear down other people, gossiping, or doing unseemly things in the public eye. And of course, they would be kind and considerate people, mannerly, thoughtful. Not bitter and vindictive.

I once worked with a gay who was wonderful to everyone no matter where they ranked in the company. He was excellent himself so had a freedom to not have to kiss the bosses' asses.

You would think he was just a nice average guy.

Only years later did I find out that he had gone to two ivy league colleges and had done many different great accomplishments outside of work.
