The Search for James Bond Continues

The other thread was paywalled.

Latest news is that they want a Bond who is under 40 and at least 5ft 10 tall which rules out quite a few DL favourites.

In the running-

Richard Madden

James Norton

Joe Alwyn

Theo James

Rege Jean Page

by Anonymousreply 255February 8, 2023 3:07 PM

Old ass Idris Elba is out of the running then

by Anonymousreply 1August 15, 2022 1:27 AM

Idris is way too old. So is Tom Hardy and even Henry Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 2August 15, 2022 1:31 AM

Just give it to Madden and be done with it.

by Anonymousreply 3August 15, 2022 1:32 AM

James Norton doesn't strike me as athletic enough.

Richard Madden seems too effete.

Of that group, I'm inclined toward Theo James, but believe that Page has a diversity inside track.

by Anonymousreply 4August 15, 2022 1:34 AM

Jesus, I hope it's not that arrogant asshole Rege Jean Page.

by Anonymousreply 5August 15, 2022 1:36 AM

Alwyn is too pretty.

by Anonymousreply 6August 15, 2022 1:39 AM

At least there are two person of color candidates listed at OP, although I’m not a fan of Rege and hope he doesn’t get the part.

by Anonymousreply 7August 15, 2022 1:56 AM

Why don 't they start a new series ?

by Anonymousreply 8August 15, 2022 2:04 AM

008?

by Anonymousreply 9August 15, 2022 2:06 AM

Eh ! Why not ?

Or another way to talk about spies and action.

by Anonymousreply 10August 15, 2022 2:07 AM

Oh for God's sake, make Bond white, as he's supposed to be. Write another character for somebody else.

by Anonymousreply 11August 15, 2022 2:36 AM

Window of opportunity is closing on Cavill... this is his last chance!!

by Anonymousreply 12August 15, 2022 3:02 AM

They should start at the beginning again, a remake of Dr. No. The plots of the later films are so stupid and gadget driven. Back to basics.

by Anonymousreply 13August 15, 2022 4:06 AM

If Madden gets the job, does Froy go into the Witness Protection Program?

by Anonymousreply 14August 15, 2022 4:53 AM

[quote] Alwyn is too pretty

All of them are pretty.

by Anonymousreply 15August 15, 2022 4:55 AM

Madden is much too short then. He claims 5'9" which means 5'7" or shorter. He also looks much older than 40 even though he is 35.

by Anonymousreply 16August 15, 2022 4:56 AM

Hmm, Madden does not look like a Bond. They need someone more sophisticated. I also did not like Craig for the same reason. I hope they do not choose a black guy. Bond is white. Period. Start a new franchise if you want a black agent. It also bothers me that Captain America is black now. These are iconic characters and not interchangeable.

by Anonymousreply 17August 15, 2022 6:37 AM

[quote]They need someone more sophisticated.

Craig is closer to what Ian Fleming wrote than the other Bonds.

[quote]It also bothers me that Captain America is black now.

Captain America has been many people in the comics, including Falcon, who has always been black. While stunt casting, like a black Superman, is ridiculous, the comics have a long history of people of various races holding the hero titles, including Miles Morales as Spiderman and John Stewart a black Green Lantern, as well as women who've assumed the titles of various characters.

A black Bond would make sense if the fan theory that "James Bond" is the name of anyone who assumes the role of 007, rather than an individual person, that was popular until the Craig Bond gave a lot more of his personal story and pretty much nullified that theory.

by Anonymousreply 18August 15, 2022 1:01 PM

R17, does it bother you when movies set in the 19th have actors with spray tans and plastic surgery or when 30-year-olds are cast as high schoolers or Americans who can't do English accents are cast as Brits? Stop being racist

by Anonymousreply 19August 15, 2022 5:25 PM

Aiden Turner

Too bad the cutoff age is 40, Sam Heughan would have been good.

by Anonymousreply 20August 15, 2022 10:47 PM

James Norton for me. He'll show peen.

by Anonymousreply 21August 15, 2022 10:51 PM

What about Tom Ellis ?

by Anonymousreply 22August 15, 2022 10:54 PM

What happened to Gerald Butler? Is he too old now?

by Anonymousreply 23August 15, 2022 11:14 PM

R19: how about Daniel Craig playing Shaft?

by Anonymousreply 24August 15, 2022 11:33 PM

Well, you probably think James Franco is qualified to play Fidel Castro, so....

by Anonymousreply 25August 15, 2022 11:35 PM

Bond is iconic. Shaft is iconic. Jackie Chan movies are iconic. White Bond, black Shaft. Asian Jackie Chan.

by Anonymousreply 26August 16, 2022 12:10 AM

[quote] does it bother you when movies set in the 19th have actors with spray tan

Well Theo James has a natural, brown “tan”, yet he’s cast in period pieces.

by Anonymousreply 27August 16, 2022 12:16 AM

R26, but no Latino Castro....even though, unlike Bond, he's a person who actually was real

by Anonymousreply 28August 16, 2022 12:28 AM

Cavill pre Superman bulk up was perfect for Bond. Black hair, blue eyes, chiselled features, strong jawline.

Madden is not 5ft 7 or the actresses he's played opposite would tower over him.

by Anonymousreply 29August 16, 2022 1:05 AM

[Quote][R17], does it bother you when movies set in the 19th have actors with spray tans and plastic surgery or when 30-year-olds are cast as high schoolers or Americans who can't do English accents are cast as Brits? Stop being racist

Yes, that bothers me too. Bridgerton for example is utterly ridiculous. If you do a time piece, stick to the historical facts. Why is it so hard to leave iconic characters, movies or series alone and start a new franchise? Or come up with a new storyline or concept for diverse characters?

by Anonymousreply 30August 16, 2022 4:32 AM

Downtown Abbey was quite right to cast him as an exotic Turk.

by Anonymousreply 31August 16, 2022 4:43 AM

R30. The point is not that it’s so hard. It’s that hitching a ride on an established franchise is a big leg up.

by Anonymousreply 32August 16, 2022 4:45 AM

Have always considered most suggestions just a pack of old geezers. I wouldn’t be the least surprised if they’re looking for a James Bond under 30, not under 40. I big problem has been James Bond hasn’t been capturing the critical youth market (that’s why casting was told for No Time To Die that the villain needed to be someone younger.) They’re now looking towards (as Broccoli has said) a complete reinvention, beginning the new series with a callow Bond capable of making mistakes. The problem is finding an actor of that age with gravatas.

by Anonymousreply 33August 16, 2022 4:55 AM

I've told you guys already.

Leo Suter. He's 28. Very handsome. Great bod. Can do cute and maybe humbled but also serious with gravitas. In real life he was a rower at Oxford. His late mother was made a Dame for her feminist business contributions. A nice and very smart guy. He's 6'2" and he's already played gay in Victoria and he looks great in a tux and naked. He's in some Viking show now - haven't seen it.

I sound like his agent and I will be expecting a cut of his Bond earnings.

He was a bit younger here.

Madden's my pick, but I wouldn't be horrified by any of the actors OP listed. Well, unless Alwyn insisted on Taylor Swift becoming a Bond Girl. Valentine's Day proved that, like Leni Riefenstahl, she should never be allowed to make another film.

by Anonymousreply 36August 16, 2022 9:12 AM

Brace yourself. Taylor is in the upcoming Amsterdam.

I like the idea for new series of 008, a woke feminist secret agent who is actually secret and not well known for every villain around the world.

by Anonymousreply 38August 16, 2022 11:22 AM

I'd love to see a feminist secret agent movie.

by Anonymousreply 40August 16, 2022 2:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 41August 16, 2022 5:15 PM

R30, Bridgerton is fiction. You know that, right?

by Anonymousreply 42August 16, 2022 5:28 PM

This was just trending on twitter now, how the next Bond will be young (early 30s) -

Your failure of understanding is funny.

Bridgerton - the books or the show - is not intended to be historical fiction or even historically accurate. While I do agree that characters should remain true to how they were envisioned, it's more a function of character and motivation. It's rare that gender or race have no bearing on the inner life of a character. I don't know that I'd care one way or another about Bond being black or any other race while being a woman would make a huge difference.

You got lost, Klan Granny at R45. Still banging on about Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 46August 20, 2022 3:59 PM

If they are going for under 20, Harry Styles is the obvious option.

by Anonymousreply 47August 20, 2022 4:00 PM

Leo Suter looks about 40 already.

The Klan Granny at R45 is the one who's always bitching about how much she hates colour blind casting.

by Anonymousreply 48August 20, 2022 4:04 PM

Taron Egerton

by Anonymousreply 49August 20, 2022 4:07 PM

I like Ben Whishaw. He'd get my ass in a seat if he were to play James Bond. He may not be anyone's physical ideal, especially on DL (musclemary.org), but I find him sophisticated enough. I'm not bit interested in Madden or Suter. I would not mind Tom Brittney from Grantchester, though I'm not sure I'd actually go to a theatre to see him as Bond.

Ben Whishaw. That's my Bond, James Bond.

by Anonymousreply 50August 20, 2022 4:08 PM

Jacob Elordi of "Euphoria" is pretty, if they'll go for an Australian.

They won't employ an out gay man as Bond.

by Anonymousreply 53August 20, 2022 10:23 PM

I posted R45 and that was meant for the latest Angelina BS. I have no idea how it got here? LOL! What do Klan Grannies have to do with it? I'm confused.

I think we're haunted by a poltergeist.

R53, I think you're probably right on that.

Joe Alwyn is a charisma void that can’t act his way out of a paper bag. Absolutely not.

by Anonymousreply 56August 20, 2022 10:38 PM

HARRY STYLES FITS THE BILL

SINISTER, DEEP VOICE, STRIKING EYES THAT LOOKS VERY GREEN ON CAMERA, SUPER FIT, DOES OWN STUNTS.

by Anonymousreply 60August 21, 2022 1:25 AM

James Norton, unless he "smells funny down there".

by Anonymousreply 61August 21, 2022 3:00 AM

I want to see Harry in his new films. Then I’ll judge.

by Anonymousreply 62August 21, 2022 4:28 AM

Richard Eden who writes the Daily Mail's Confidential column has today said the tip is James Norton.

He's always been quietly in the front rank of possibilities, so this would be no surprise if so.

by Anonymousreply 63August 30, 2022 7:51 AM

Norton was certainly the stuff in McMafia. If you haven't seen it, highly recommended.

by Anonymousreply 64August 30, 2022 7:52 AM

Mike Doyle still needs a breakout role and he has the sophistication and ice cool exterior. Still gives off are youthful vibe yet old enough to have a gravitas. And if you can have a black Bond you can have an American Bond.

by Anonymousreply 65August 30, 2022 8:02 AM

That's a joke, right?

by Anonymousreply 66August 30, 2022 8:06 AM

[quote]James Norton, unless he "smells funny down there".

Define funny.

by Anonymousreply 67August 30, 2022 8:09 AM

Norton is an interesting choice. Just a year older than Madden. I would think they would want to go perhaps just a tad bit younger than that (earlier 30s), considering how long it takes to make these films, how long it's taking to just get this new reset off the ground, and how long they may want to run this particular actor.

by Anonymousreply 68August 30, 2022 8:13 AM

I'm not sure any of the actors listed in the OP have the gravitas to be honest. I really hope it's not Rege Jean Page as his head is already massive and he seems like a bit of a wimp.

Henry Cavill is my choice.

by Anonymousreply 69August 30, 2022 8:29 AM

I think there's two things that will work against Styles:

1. He's young and wants to do A LOT, including his music, so less easy to control 2. He's young and still a bit unstable, and enjoying playing round with gender-fuck, and that's the things you want for someone who is to represent Bond. Producers everywhere have been spooked by the Ezra Miller disaster, which means a movie costing $250 might need to be canned.

by Anonymousreply 70August 30, 2022 8:30 AM

I’ve said it before: Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

by Anonymousreply 85August 31, 2022 5:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 86August 31, 2022 8:17 AM

Binge watching The Tudors and Henry Cavill is divine. He looks and sounds more like Bond than any Bond ever. If he could diet down to his Tudors weight he could still be cast as he's only 40 so they'd get a good three films out of him.

by Anonymousreply 87August 31, 2022 11:38 AM

Harry looks the part and has that combo of playfulness and menace (see his part in Dunkirk for the latter). However, he has a Cheshire accent and Bond needs to speak in a neutral/posh accent as befits his Eton education.

[quote]For a while, that person seemed to be Idris Elba. But the “Luther” star recently said he didn’t see Bond when he “looks in the mirror” — remarks that some have interpreted as Elba’s valediction to 007.

[quote]Broccoli and Wilson hadn’t recently spoken to the long-time Bond candidate at the time of this interview, but they say they understand. “He’s great,” says Wilson, and Broccoli quickly adds, “We love Idris.”

[quote]“The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off,” she notes. “And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].” Wilson interjects: “And he was in his early 30s at the time!”

by Anonymousreply 98September 22, 2022 2:27 AM

Harry Styles is perfect to play Bond--if you want to ruin the franchise forever. RME

Did anyone see Tom Hardy fight and win that ju jisu fight? There's a video of it. He could play a couple of Bond films before aging out of the role.

Wild Card: Ioan Gruffudd from Fantastic Four and Horatio Hornblower. Like Hardy, he could do a couple of Bond movies.

Aidan Turner would be okay with me. Cillian Murphy? No. Too pretty-boy. Nobody wants a girlish James Bond except people who don't know or care about James Bond.

And the Brits will NEVER allow a non-Brit to play Bond. Pierce Brosnan is Irish, but that's as far as they will go.

by Anonymousreply 99September 22, 2022 2:57 AM

Gruffudd is, like, 50

by Anonymousreply 100September 22, 2022 3:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 101September 22, 2022 3:15 AM

r99, don't forget the Aussie

by Anonymousreply 102September 22, 2022 3:21 AM

R95 So basically kind of confirming what the rumor mill has been saying all along, that they want to go a bit younger and that it will be for multiple movies over 10-12 years that won't even start being made for another couple years. So I get a feeling that rules out mid 30s and up unless they really find someone they like. Probably early 30s as much as possible. Read somewhere else that they also wanted someone possibly a bit unknown. So that would kind of rule out the big names we've been throwing around here.

by Anonymousreply 103September 22, 2022 4:41 AM

I still say James Norton, despite him being 36.

by Anonymousreply 104September 22, 2022 4:52 AM

287. ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 09/23 **4** This permanent A list mostly movie actor (Robert Downey Jr.) is best friends with this producing family (brother and sister Michael G. Vote for Thomas Doherty. He and Aidan Turner have the aesthetics and charisma of a James Bond.

by Anonymousreply 126September 24, 2022 1:52 AM

Hard pass on Tom Doherty. We dont need a pansexual looking Bond. He has to be more rugged, manly, athletic/built/fit and charming. The best Bonds were Sean Connery and Daniel Craig for that reason.

[Quote]Rege Jean Page, Henry Golding, Thomas Doherty and a young black guy whose name I can't remember.

If this is true (2 black actors, asian and twink), then they are clearly going for the diversity angle. Out of this list my vote would be for Henry Golding since he seems the most masculine.

by Anonymousreply 128September 24, 2022 9:00 PM

Barbara Broccoli mentioned Idris Elba the other day. He could always play a villain but chances are he’d outshine some of these actors you’re listing.

by Anonymousreply 129September 24, 2022 11:58 PM

Idris would make a great Bond villain if they don't want him for Bond.

by Anonymousreply 130September 25, 2022 3:17 AM

Aidan Turner at 39 is too old.

Thomas Doherty dated Dove Cameron for years and is now with a fashion model called Yasmin who used to date the rapper G Eazy. Thomas is also a model for Dior.

That Thomas Doherty is incredibly hot. I could see it working. And exactly the kind of younger, suave angle to reinvigorate the property I was kind of thinking of.

And young enough to commit to it a for a decade (through his 30s basically, by the time they start). And he looks like a grown man, while still being young.

by Anonymousreply 134September 25, 2022 5:45 AM

Why so obsessed with this skinny twink?? Thomas Doherty doesnt look rugged or manly enough for Bond. Fashion model with a nice face? Yes. Orphaned emotionally damaged hitman 007? No.

Wow. Y'all think Doherty is a "twink"? Hmmm, ok. He looks "manly" enough to me. And the face has good bone structure. Photographs beautifully, but masculine enough.

When I think "twink", I think Froy, or Shawn Mendes.

by Anonymousreply 138September 25, 2022 5:56 AM

Thomas Doherty is adored by Gen Z and that's the audience they want to attract. Bond doesn't need to be some craggy Craig type in his 50s. You would have called Roger Moore, Brosnan and Timothy Dalton twinks too.

by Anonymousreply 139September 25, 2022 5:56 AM

"What if they want diversity without going black? Who are their choices?"

Henry Golding, Theo James.

by Anonymousreply 140September 25, 2022 5:57 AM

Doherty looks smooth faced and cute because he's still only 27 but his face will age and become angular and sharply defined - probably by his early 30s.

by Anonymousreply 141September 25, 2022 6:00 AM

'Y'all think Doherty is a "twink"?'

A lot of men here think anyone under 30 and slim with light eyes and no facial hair is a twink.

by Anonymousreply 142September 25, 2022 6:01 AM

Daniel Craig wasnt 50s when he started. Dohertys age isnt the issue. He doesnt have what it takes to play the Bond character.

Read the books. You need substance to be Bond. Charisma. Charm. Brooding. Tough. Rugged. Masculine. Seducing ladies but emotionally unavailable. Need more than just a handsome face (that was Brosnan's problem too, handsome but boring). Sorry, I know you really love him and Harry Styles I just dont agree he would make a good action movie star.

by Anonymousreply 143September 25, 2022 6:14 AM

Of course he looks manly, to 70 year old caftan wearing queens that haven't been fucked in 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 144September 25, 2022 6:16 AM

Contrary to what some of you may think, many of us are far closer in age to the men being considered. No "70 year old caftans" here. "Queens" though, yes.

Personally, I'm just ready for something different regarding Bond. Craig was great, but let's do something new. As well as the overall look and feel of the films themselves. I don't need everything to be hyper-realistic, dark, or gritty. I wouldn't mind seeing some stylization, more sex appeal, and a sense of humor about itself. I mean, it's never going to happen, but hey, why not...

And Brosnan wasn't boring at all. The films may have been a bit cheesier then, but they were a hell of a lot more fun. I thought he was a great Bond.

by Anonymousreply 145September 25, 2022 6:26 AM

Caitlyn Jenner?

by Anonymousreply 146September 25, 2022 6:37 AM

I seriously doubt they're going to choose someone who is just a model and not a known actor.

The last time they tried that they got George Lazenby.

by Anonymousreply 147September 25, 2022 6:38 AM

Henry Golding could be perfect.

by Anonymousreply 148September 25, 2022 6:42 AM

[quote] I'm not sure how you could be closer in age to those considered when Pierce was Bond 27 years ago. Unless you watched at birth.

R149 😂 The post above mine says we're all a bunch of caftan-wearing 70 year olds. I said that some, if not most, of us are probably "closer in age to the men being considered"...as in, most of the men suggested in these threads are somewhere in their 30s, give or take a few years above or below that age range.

Thus, many of us grew up watching all the old Bond films, including, if not especially, the Brosnan films that came out when we were kids and teens.

I thought that was pretty self explanatory, no?

by Anonymousreply 153September 25, 2022 9:12 AM

The RM movies had a sense of humor. A bit too cheeky at times. I thought the first DC movie was a great balance (skewered, one sympathizes)

But what appealed to me as a kid was the debonair Bond with his fancy spy gadgets. Throwing DC back in the retro Aston Martin was a great device for one movie, but doesn't keep me interested as a theme.

I am old enough to remember when the debate was just SC and RM. RM fit for the times, but he was no SC. I guess they can throw some girly little man in the mix to appease the current target audience. Whatever puts ass's in the seats.

by Anonymousreply 154September 25, 2022 10:39 AM

I've just seen some extended scenes from Time Traveler's Wife and Theo James' acting is just cringeworthy bad. Actually so was Rose Leslie. At least he was better looking than she was. How did she even get that role? Granted the dialogue was also really bad but I felt like it was all bad soap opera level bad.

I don't think James could pull it off believably.

by Anonymousreply 155September 25, 2022 1:19 PM

Let’s face it, Daniel Craig is not all that attractive unless Michelin men are your thing. He’s also a rougher, harder-edged James Bond. The recent episodes weren’t too bad, but not great either.

At least the prior Bonds were “cheeky” and exhibited a bit more humor than the darker Daniel Craig episodes.

In a darker post-pandemic world, think it would be heavy to continue having a dark Daniel Craig-like James Bond.

Hopeful that the producers can find a Bond for a more balanced series.

by Anonymousreply 156September 25, 2022 1:20 PM

[quote] What if they want diversity without going black?

They'll call Jonathan Bailey or Richard Madden. And then double-down on Bond's pussyhounding on screen.

Sope Dirisu can act circles around Thomas Doherty and Henry Golding put together, but it doesn't matter - they won't cast a dark-skinned black man as James Bond. The only reason the Broccolis were licking Idris's ass in that interview was because they already decided he was out.

This is a multibillion dollar franchise. They will only risk so much.

Sutherland was an unusual coloratura in that she had a huge voice where most coloraturas have usually lighter and smaller sounding voices.

R177, racist Bond!

by Anonymousreply 178September 26, 2022 4:26 PM

There is NO way Hammer is in consideration. Even if he's rehabilitated, they've always been pretty adamant about Bond being British (or at least Commonwealth - Lazenby).

However, DL fav Jacob Elordi (AUS) has somehow started popping up on lists now that they're focusing on actors closer to 30 than 40 years old - I hope it's just wishful fangurl thinking and not real.

The popular frontrunner seems to be Rege Jean Page (Bridgerton). I don't see him in the role. His non-Bridgerton roles have not been particularly memorable.

Aidan Turner had been my top choice, but he's 39 right now, so may be too old based on the new casting criteria supposedly in place.

Henry Golding is not an action hero - see Snake Eyes. Also, while he does have a British father, I don't think that technically meets the Bond is a British actor requirement although Malaysia was a British colony, so that may be borderline acceptable.

Not Dornan. I like Jamie Dornan. He's hot, but not Bond.

by Anonymousreply 179September 26, 2022 5:04 PM

r179, Pierce Brosnan (Irish), Sean Connery (Scottish) and George Lazenby (Australian) aren't technically British.

by Anonymousreply 180September 26, 2022 11:19 PM

Henry Golding is a stunning man and a good actor, but he hasn't proven himself enough in action films yet. However, the producers may disagree. They will want a true up and comer who has been a strong leading man in a few notable but not huge blockbuster things but isn't yet a standalone star. Lots of regency and historical fiction will not count for much - the producers have made it clear they want a modern Bond.

This rules out people like Rege Jean Page who was cute enough on his single season of the silly little Netflix regency romcom, but couldn't even carry a supporting role well in a mediocre high profile action film. Most damning, he had zero chemistry with ANA DE ARMAS, even, a woman who managed to eke out a lot of chemistry with 2 minutes of screen time in the last actual Bond film. It rules out people like Aidan Turner who isn't hot enough and James Norton; their years of toiling in PBS obscurity won't shore them up for Bond. It rules out guys like Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Thomas Doherty, both of whom are very good actors and the right age but haven't yet proven they can carry anything as the leading man.

In theory, Bond is an aspirational character: men want to be him and women want to sleep with him and everyone finds him a fascinating, bold loose canon with a strong heroic streak. A great many of the actors brought up in this thread are good looking and talented, but they just don't fit this picture.

by Anonymousreply 185September 27, 2022 2:45 AM

Absolutely none of the men mentioned in this thread are twinks anymore. None. Let alone of the Helix variety.

by Anonymousreply 195September 27, 2022 9:40 AM

[quote]I think of twinks as being 25 or under, very slender with no Muscle Mary factor like these guys have. A twink to me is under 5ft 9 and under 145lbs.

Yeah, the definition of "twink" has changed somewhat. I used to mean young and youthful, slim, pretty waif-like. Now, it just means young and hot. "Twink"was short for "twinkle" which was named in reference to Twinkle Toe Shoes - which, I don't think we need expand on the gay connotations of that any further.

Leo Suter has the same problem Theo James, James Norton, Rege Jean Page, Aidan Turner and countless other historical/niche genre fiction actors mentioned up and down this thread have: no proof they can carry a major mainstream blockbuster as a leading man. They're going for an up and comer, not a totally untried newbie.

by Anonymousreply 199September 27, 2022 10:16 PM

Theo James has tried and failed.

by Anonymousreply 200September 27, 2022 10:34 PM

R199, how does your argument even work?

What proof was there Daniel Craig could carry a major mainstream blockbuster as a leading man before 2006?

What proof was there for Roger Moore before 1973 and Man with the Golden Gun?

What proof was there for Sean Connery before 1962 and Dr. No? Unless you count Darby O'Gill and the Little People. LOL!

The answer for all 3 is NONE.

Besides what I already mentioned, I like Suter because he isn't already identified with some other role and most importantly some other franchise. Or some other endeavor like a pop singer. All 3 - Connery, Moore and to a lesser extent Craig - were all catapulted into superstardom precisely because of the Bond role. Bond wasn't catapulted because of them.

We agree on James. He is completely wooden and his effort in the Divergent franchise failed - except for some remaining female fans. Plus male-female chemistry is important and the only one I've seen him have that chemistry with is that younger actress in Sanditon. Though a lot of the sexual tension between them was fighting and kind of a rough sparring.

by Anonymousreply 201September 28, 2022 12:12 AM

I've never seen Novak in a dramatic role — is he any good at them? He's great at comedy, but that doesn't tell me anything about how he'd be as Bond.

Bond dramatic? Lol.

I’m watching Richard Madden in Bodyguard on Netflix, it seems to me he’d be a smashing James Bond

He's aged 10 years in the 4 years since that filmed, but I wouldn't be mad it if it was Richard. He's a fine action actor, the right age, and the right level of fame.

Something was trending about Bond on twitter today, with various actors in their 30s being mentioned as possibilities, all those named here.

And then there was a whole segment on Access Hollywood, where they went through a whole list of potential names, most listed here, except no Madden mention.

Even five minutes a bunch of Gen Z assistants sit around a virtual table of an online entertainment site and come up with the new Bond favourite according to 'sources'.

The list will be whatever the in thing is of the moment according to those Gen Z tastes.

It's why you get idiotic suggestions like Harry Styles.

by Anonymousreply 243October 7, 2022 8:08 AM

Styles looks like a malnourished tree frog.

by Anonymousreply 244October 7, 2022 3:41 PM

You know they're just making shit up at this point when Variety just had a list of potential Bonds and the list included EMILY BLUNT.

by Anonymousreply 245October 7, 2022 5:33 PM

Madden would be a good choice but they might not want a tabloid celeb.

by Anonymousreply 246October 9, 2022 6:26 AM

r246, are you kidding? That's great press for the franchise. But I think Madden is too short.

by Anonymousreply 247October 9, 2022 2:01 PM

R247 Are we sure about that? Considering the markets Bond has to sell to, do they want someone with well established gay rumors, and a heavy predilection for twinks?

by Anonymousreply 248October 9, 2022 2:29 PM

Well, if James Bond were gay, he’d definitely be into twinks.

I recall hearing Daniel Craig nailed the audition, plus had done a few dramatic roles already (Layer Cake, Some Voices). Im thinking they probably have a list of men in mind but they need to impress at the audition too.

All Daniel does is squint and purse his lips.

by Anonymousreply 251October 10, 2022 3:39 PM

I guess they're looking at Aaron Taylor-Johnson

by Anonymousreply 252December 8, 2022 9:41 PM

I’ll do it if they pay me 5 mil

by Anonymousreply 253December 8, 2022 9:42 PM

I hope it's not him

by Anonymousreply 254December 27, 2022 10:39 PM

Any updates?
