Europe Suffering Its Worst Drought In 500 Years

From dry and cracked reservoirs in Spain to falling water levels on major arteries like the Danube, the Rhine and the Po, an unprecedented drought is afflicting nearly half of the European continent. It is damaging farm economies, forcing water restrictions, causing wildfires and threatening aquatic species.

There has been no significant rainfall for almost two months in Western, Central and Southern Europe. And the dry period is expected to continue in what experts say could be the worst drought in 500 years.

How can Conservatives still deny Climate Change is real?

... but what about her emails?

When will the PTB step up and take climate change seriously. Maybe they could Cry themselves a river. Imagine how it is for India and places were the margins of survival are threadbare already. Western Europe has been going through the fossil fuels with abandon for years. last time I was in England the fossil fuel usage was maybe not on par with L.A. but there were trains planes and automobiles going every which direction. This drought is a good wake up call for WU. I hope they don't suffer too much but climate change is existential until you turn on the tap and nothing comes out. Next stop terrible fires.

500 years ago there was a drought.

In 500 years? The 1765-1768 saw a 40 month drought across the entirety of the British Isles and which rendered the usually fierce River Shannon crossible by foot:

"Overall, the drought of 1834–1836 was the most intense SPI-12 event in our reconstruction for England and Wales. Newspaper accounts and documentary sources confirm the extent of impacts across England in particular.

We also identify a major, “forgotten” drought in 1765–1768 that affected the British-Irish Isles. This was the most intense event in our reconstructions for Ireland and Scotland, and ranks first for accumulated deficits across all three regional series. Moreover, the 1765–1768 event was also the most extreme multi-year drought across all regional series when considering 36-month accumulations (SPI-36). Newspaper and other sources confirm the occurrence and major socio-economic impact of this drought, such as major rivers like the Shannon being fordable by foot. Our results provide new insights into historical droughts across the British Irish Isles. Given the importance of historical droughts for stress-testing the resilience of water resources, drought plans and supply systems, the forgotten drought of 1765–1768 offers perhaps the most extreme benchmark scenario in more than 250-years."

NEVER trust NPR. No fact checking is EVER done over there anymore.

They have a drought to contend with which is bad enough PLUS they have to deal with the SKYROCKETING price of energy plus the fact that there might not be sufficient natural gas to heat and light their homes this winter

Europe is FUCKED.

And, they've been banned even from having real fireplaces in most UK/Euro houses now, so it's not as though they can even rely on using cords of wood for light, warmth and cooking. They really are well and truly fucked.
