The Gays and Tennis Part 126 - Hard Court Summer

I'm surprised no one started a new thread. The last one got paywalled. Hopefully everyone will start posting on this one.

Swiatek went down to Haddad Maia. Alcaraz continues to cause some concern. I wonder if the pressure is getting to him? Kyrgios loses his shit and then the match. Auger Alliasime proves again he will continue to drop stinkers. Ruud is boring.

So glad that Hubie took out Kyrgios 🙌🏻

by Anonymousreply 1August 12, 2022 9:29 PM

I bet Nadal wins the US Open. These weak-willed young guns don't have the fortitude. Nadal injured still beats most of them. Hell, he had to drop out of Wimbledon. No one actually beat him.

For the women, it is truly anyone's to win. The WTA is such a mess. Swiatek seemed like a consistent #1 but now looks to be struggling.

by Anonymousreply 2August 12, 2022 9:37 PM

Thanks for the new thread, OP.

I am undisputed GOAT!
Serena Williams' pointed dig at Margaret Court in retirement reveal
Serena Williams has taken a veiled swipe at Margaret Court after revealing she will retire from tennis after the US Open.
Williams addressed Court's record and the 'GOAT' debate in her article, pointing out that Court won all of her titles before the professional era of tennis.
"There are people who say I'm not the GOAT (greatest of all time) because I didn't pass Court's record, which she achieved before the 'Open era' that began in 1968," the former World No.1 said.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't want that record. Obviously I do. But day to day, I'm really not thinking about her.
"If I'm in a Slam final, then yes, I'm thinking about that record. Maybe I thought about it too much, and that didn't help."

I like Raducanu and think she has lots of promise unlike some asshole tennis fans but with only 2 tournaments left for Serena I want her to win as much as possible.

by Anonymousreply 15August 12, 2022 11:43 PM

Ree Ree will destroy Emma. Emma has hardly been a steely competitor since winning the Open.

by Anonymousreply 16August 13, 2022 12:47 AM

women's Cincy draw is insane!

I think everyone notable except for Kerber (where is she?) is there

#1 Swiatek opens against Stephens or Cornet

Keys vs. Putintseva in big contrast lol

Ostapenko vs. surging Haddad Maia

Muguruza might open against Rybakina (or qualifier)

Krejcikova vs. Kudermetova

Halep vs. Muchova

Kvitova vs. Teichmann

Pegula opens against Andreescu or Giorgi

Azarenka vs. Kanepi

Raducanu vs. Serena !!

Pliskova vs. Venus

Kastkina vs. Anisimova

by Anonymousreply 17August 13, 2022 1:10 AM

men's draw is decent but obviously missing Novaxx. Thiem still MiA Is he vaccinated yet? He hasn't left Europe all year

Murray either decided to go through qualifying or was denied a main draw WC

#1 Medvedev opens against Van De Zandschulp or Cressy

Paul vs. Brooksby should be fun

Dimitrov vs. Shapovalov

Fritz vs. Baez

Kyrgios vs. Davidovich Fokina

Karatsev vs. Nakashima

Berrettini vs. Tiafoe

Khachanov vs. Korda

Hurkacz opens against Isner or Bonzi

Norrie vs. Rune

FAA opens against De Minaur or Bublik

RBA vs. F. Cerundolo

Nadal returns and opens against struggling Coric or qualifier (hoping Murray lol)

by Anonymousreply 18August 13, 2022 1:15 AM

I thought Thiem was lying last year when he immediately said he’s been vaxxed after it was discovered he hadn’t been before the Austrian Open or whatever that tournament was…

by Anonymousreply 19August 13, 2022 1:18 AM

Sounds like it could be a mole? DL Mole Patrol will be happy.

by Anonymousreply 42August 14, 2022 3:54 AM

Two really great semis. The PCB/Evans match was particularly titanic! Evans may be a scary demi-psycho but he play really creative tennis and is great in a scrap. Good to see PCB keep his head together all week.

Could be a great final.

by Anonymousreply 43August 14, 2022 8:36 AM

worst finals evah, snoozeville. I thought CoCo was supposed to win?

by Anonymousreply 44August 14, 2022 2:37 PM

In a clash between DL boyfriends Hubie and PCB, we win either way! It's a rare final that works out that way.

by Anonymousreply 45August 14, 2022 3:21 PM

I am totally fascinated as to who will win the U.S. Open if Djokovic can't play. It's not Nadal's best surface at all on top of him having injuries.

What do you think?

by Anonymousreply 46August 14, 2022 3:26 PM
I thought CoCo was supposed to win?

Call me Coco can still win the doubles title with Pegula. If think if they win Coco will be ranked #1 in doubles

by Anonymousreply 47August 14, 2022 3:34 PM

Agreed, R45--all eye candy, no attitude, and they've both been playing great tennis. What's not to like?

by Anonymousreply 48August 14, 2022 3:38 PM

Hubie is a great dark horse choice for the Open. So is Sinner.

Djokovic won't be there, Zverev's still recovering, Nadal's body over seven matches...

I'd say Medvedev is the favorite. Keep an eye on where Nick K lands in the draw. After that, Hubie and Sinner have a shot.

by Anonymousreply 49August 14, 2022 3:50 PM

Is Thiem vaxxed? He didn't play in Canada. Will we see him in US Open?

by Anonymousreply 50August 14, 2022 4:03 PM

I'd like to see PCB get his first Masters especially since his biggest achievements thus far are a bronze medal and 2 slam SF appearances

clearly Hurkacz has the advantage on serve. Unlike a lot of other big servers though, he actually returns well too. He'll want to get that big strike early to prevent super long rallies.

PCB obviously moves better and is more consistent. He'll look to attack Hurkacz' forehand. While that shot has improved a lot over the last few years, it's the side that can really break down under pressure.

by Anonymousreply 58August 14, 2022 8:18 PM

r55 go away.

by Anonymousreply 59August 14, 2022 8:25 PM

With recent changes on COVID policy, CDC will soon issue new guidelines on international travel requirements on vaccines, Djokovic might be able to play USO.

by Anonymousreply 60August 14, 2022 8:25 PM

R59 you're allowed to have low standards but you can't expect the rest of us to. Nothing personal against Hurkacz but he's decidedly average looking

by Anonymousreply 61August 14, 2022 8:34 PM

r61 you sound like a real catch! Photo please so we can judge you.

by Anonymousreply 62August 14, 2022 8:45 PM

Hubie is cute. And of course most of us on here are gay men who fantasize--and have our entire lives--about fit, tennis players. So it's fun to fantasize about nearly all the pro men's players. It's neat that they're all so different--from different countries and so forth.

So Hubie is smooth, goofy, charming, tall. Some other guy is hairy, swarthy, barrel-chested. These differences are fun and make them attractive.

by Anonymousreply 63August 14, 2022 8:50 PM

Agree r63. The "low standards" part of your response r61 is just obnoxious. My guess is you're not a tennis pro nor a supermodel so no need to be such a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 64August 14, 2022 8:52 PM

Hubie's no model, but he's a handsome, charming dork.

Of course, anyone with bland, pedestrian tastes wouldn't get the appeal.

well done Coco! Very impressive at her age to have such success in both singles and doubles

by Anonymousreply 77August 14, 2022 10:26 PM

R46, Rafa has 4 Open titles. He's pretty damn good there! If he's healthy, it's hard to bet against him.

If Rafa isn't healthy? The easy bet is Med. But he's been wildly inconsistent. I'd be pretty wide open, I think.

Yay PCB! One of my original tennis "husbands", I'm glad to see him finally win a big one. (The other day when he was playing Draper it was loyalty vs the new pretty...) Hubie's adorable too - even when he's having a tantrum you can tell he's still careful not to direct it at anyone.

by Anonymousreply 81August 15, 2022 12:18 AM

But why is serena considered the goat? she only has 2 all time records, that being oldest number #1 ever and the open (but not all time record) of grand slam singles titles....which everyone knows could and should be put into context....

graf, navratilova, even evert have far more all time records than she does.....

by Anonymousreply 82August 15, 2022 12:27 AM
But why is serena considered the goat?

Precisely. I am only GOAT!

by Anonymousreply 83August 15, 2022 12:30 AM

R82, GOAT-ness will never come down to numbers alone. You can put anyone’s titles “in context” and inflate or diminish them. Graf has all the numbers in the world going for her but she doesn’t inspire the conviction that she is the best. Basically, no one believes that any other female player could consistently beat an in-form Serena.

by Anonymousreply 84August 15, 2022 1:03 AM

Capriati, Hingis, Henin all consistently beat Serena at her peak.

by Anonymousreply 85August 15, 2022 1:14 AM

Seles beat Graf at her peak until the stabbing

by Anonymousreply 86August 15, 2022 2:05 AM

Honestly, Serena, Martina and Graf all have legit claims at GOAThood. Evert nearly does too.

Graf would have it outright had the Seles stabbing not occurred. Well, she would have it outright if she still ended up with 22 facing a healthy Seles.

Serena could easily have 27 or 28 slams but she got distracted/bored/out of shape too often in her career.

by Anonymousreply 87August 15, 2022 3:05 AM
Serena could easily have 27 or 28 slams but she got distracted/bored/out of shape too often in her career.

She had a baby for god's sake!

by Anonymousreply 88August 15, 2022 3:12 AM

Say what you like about Nadal/Djokovic/Federer, they've always been so focused and hardworking - nothing like someone like Osaka. Truly an amazing trio.

by Anonymousreply 89August 15, 2022 3:14 AM

R87 Martina and Graf >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Serena

Someone needs to send Serena home in the first round at USO, so we don't have to endure her USTA sponsored tearfest for the next 14 days, you know it's coming! If she is gone after the first match, it will be just an one day affair, much more manageable.

by Anonymousreply 90August 15, 2022 4:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 94August 15, 2022 9:09 AM

Nobody considered Court the goat on Graf's time. In fact nobody considered her in the top 3 (Graf, Navratilova, Evert).

She won most of her australian open titles without any real competitors.

Seles' stabbing always there when one talk about Graf, but the truth is it wasn't the stabbing but Monica's reaction to the stabbing what changed everything. She recovered pretty fast, but she couldn't deal with playing again till 1995, and she never was the same after her return. She was never fit enough to compete (even with that she reached the final rounds regularly) and the killer instinct she had before the stabbing dissapeared

The truth is Graf was facing a lot of personal problems during Monica's rising and she could even won more GS if she didn't have serious injury problems during 97 and 98 and had to retire so soon.

A sub par Steffi was able to win RG in 1999 and reached the Wimbledon final. She could compete with Capriati, Venus, Serena, Davenport and Hingis at least three or four more years.

Serena won more GS during the 10`s than during her years of real domination and that's because she didn't have to face players like Capriati or Henin. The truth is she has an amazing career, and was able to being competitive even when his prime was long ago

by Anonymousreply 95August 15, 2022 10:37 AM

Musetti is incredibly bad outside clay.

People seem to like to trash Alcaraz and Sinner everytime they lose but they are doing way better than Musetti who was thought it would be a contender (even Rune is doing better than him, but not lately)

Alcaraz admitted in the attached interview that he didn't handle it well being one of the top seeds in Montreal and having his ranking be so high. He didn't deal well with the pressure. He's hoping to turn it around in Cincy. I sure hope he does. Well at least we know now that it is the pressure that's getting to him. He hasn't played consistently well since before the French Open.

To be fair with Alcaraz, he reached second week on Wimbledon (with barely grass experience) and two finals on clay while he was playing pretty bad (some don't do that much even playing well).

The truth is he was outside of top 30 at the beginning of the season and now he is 4 (and probably will end year even higher because he only defends his US Open points)

At this rate, the Serena tribute will be early in the tournament. Emma spanked her but good.

I kind of wish she’d hung up her racquet before now. She just wasn’t competitive, except for brief spurts.

I loved that the crowd booed Kyrgios at the end. This right after Nick was hypocritically lecturing fans on Twitter about 'respecting players' in an attempt to suck up to Medvedev. Nick now believes he's part of the top 'elite' so he's trying to curry favour with them - hence his sickening faux-bromance with Djokovic post Wimbledon.

He's so fucking phoney!

by Anonymousreply 200August 18, 2022 5:26 AM

yay Porna! He gives Nadal trouble because he has a big first serve, moves very well and has a great backhand. Nadal is used to hitting crosscourt and breaking down most of the right handed ATP players' weaker backhands since most have a better forehand. It's the main reason why Nadal has often struggled against Djokovic but why he beat Federer more often than not.

Serena has a protected ranking. She didn't use a WC for Cincinnati this week

by Anonymousreply 209August 18, 2022 9:47 AM

R202 I think it's that the lighter balls (same thing at the US Open) really suit her game. They fly through the air really fast and other players have been talking about how they don't like them. Swiatek said in an interview that players want to use the same balls as the men.

by Anonymousreply 210August 18, 2022 10:16 AM

To elaborate, because the lighter balls are so fast through the air, they give players with less natural power more chance to be on an equal footing with power players. When Raducanu faces power players using normal balls she gets obliterated because then they have an advantage.

I have to say Coric is the best looking one among those in the same age group, not just among tennis players, he is actually gay porn star good looking!

Coric was also the first "future" star, long before Sasha, Daniil or Citybus burst on the scene, he beat Nadal when he was just 17. He had some injuries that hindered his career, but the real reason is he didn't really develop a weapon that can take him to the top, his tennis is meh, nothing really stood out, it's really unfortunate that his tennis didn't progress well.

Heiress def. Raducanu

by Anonymousreply 247August 19, 2022 1:35 AM

R243 good question! I think there are several reasons, one is the old habit, players are still adjusting to electronic line calls, some made the challenge without even realizing it's unnecessary now, but for some, they want to know how far or how close the ball is, so they can make some adjustment, and of course, some would use the challenge to disrupt opponents' momentum or buy themself a break to catch the breath.

by Anonymousreply 248August 19, 2022 1:46 AM

Losing the major drawing cards has not been good. Nadal rarely does well here. Only Fed really had a legacy of sticking around, and it's doubtful he'll ever play here again. He used to rent a house in the Mason suburbs within walking distance, and I think another player, maybe Isner?, has it this year.

Daddy, Titty, Stacky, Porny Teams

by Anonymousreply 265August 19, 2022 3:51 PM

When does Daddy play?

by Anonymousreply 266August 19, 2022 3:55 PM

I’m indifferent between Medvedev team or Daddy Fritz team.

Tsitsy team.

Alcaraz (Garfia) team though I also like Norrie.

Chore-itch team (for the eye candy) thoggb I also like FAA.

by Anonymousreply 267August 19, 2022 4:13 PM

Daddy plays right after the Keys match, which may be wrapped up in minutes.

by Anonymousreply 268August 19, 2022 4:36 PM

Keys takes out the Wimbledon champ and returns to the top 20, playing really solid tennis. Good for her.

Sabalenka team or Zhang team?

Pegula team or Garcia team?

by Anonymousreply 272August 19, 2022 4:58 PM

Sabalenka is like something out of a Russ Meyer film, so I'll root for her.

by Anonymousreply 273August 19, 2022 5:02 PM

Serena is a cow omg.....

by Anonymousreply 274August 19, 2022 6:16 PM

It's pretty impressive Alcaraz could be #2 if he wins Cincy. Of course A. Zverev is still injured and Novax is stuck at home

The lighter balls are also used in the lead up to the major, including the Western & Southern Open and the Canadian Open where Swiatek crashed out in the round of last 16.

Swiatek is not the only player to have complained about the balls as she and Paula Badosa, currently ranked No. 4, reportedly spoke to WTA CEO and chairman Steve Simon last year and asked whether they could switch to use the same ball as the men.

'I don't think it would be a problem because it's still the same company, it's Wilson, but, yeah, maybe we should push a bit more,' Swiatek said.

'I stopped actually pushing and trying to convince WTA, because the war in Ukraine happened and I refocused on something else. Yeah, but honestly, any tournament I play with these balls, I didn't feel well.'

Amy Binder, the WTA's senior vice president of global communications, explained the reasoning behind using the regular felt balls was to reduce the risk of injury but insisted the organization was listening to players' concerns.

'The WTA has always utilized regular felt balls for hardcourt play, and we have now begun to hear from a select number of our athletes that they would like to consider a change to using the extra duty ball,' Binder told ESPN.

'The basis behind using the regular felt ball was that it limited the potential of arm, shoulder, elbow and wrist injuries. This is something that we will continue to monitor and discuss further with both our athletes and our sports science teams.'

Australian Open champion Ash Barty's trainer had previously complained about the use of the regular felt balls.

After Barty's Grand Slam win in January, her longtime coach Craig Tyzzer claimed the Australian, who has since retired, would never win at the US Open due to the balls.

'The US Open really needs to change the ball for the girls, the fact they still use a different ball for guys and girls, it's a terrible ball for someone like Ash,' Tyzzer said.

'It was the only tournament last year and really for two years where she uses a gut racket, but I had to change her to a poly just to get any sort of control of the ball. If they keep that ball the same, no one like Ash will win that tournament.

'So I think you see the result at the US Open, it was two players who, you go, 'Wow, that was, two different players won that?' There's no surprise when the ball is like it is.'

by Anonymousreply 331August 21, 2022 2:42 AM

next week's draws are out:

[bold] Winston-Salem: [/bold]

notables:

#18 Dimitrov is top seed. He will open against either Thiem or Wolf. That should be a wild match as both are so streaky. I can't remember the last time Thiem played on a hardcourt.

#13 Draper will open against Fognini or Lajovic

Van De Zandschulp, Rune, Cressy, Musetti, Basilashvili, Baez, Ivashka, Sonego, Goffin, Kokkinakis, Edmund, Gasquet and Kwon all in the draw too

[bold] Granby, Canada [/bold]

Kasatkina is top seed. No byes. She'll open against fellow lesbian Greet Minnen. The rest of the draw is mostly challenger level. If Kasatkina falters the winner is going to be really random.

[bold] Cleveland [/bold]

Krejcikova is top seed. No byes She opens against Potapova. This draw is better than Granby but no real big names. It seems most of the women are just going to NYC.

Kenin took a WC

Mertens vs. Cirstea

Garcia vs. Samsonova but I think Garcia will likely withdraw given that she's in the Cincy final

Cornet vs. Yastremska

It looked like the woman in her box kissed her neck during the group hug. Not romantically, but maybe in a "This is as affectionate as we've decided to be at matches" kind of way.

by Anonymousreply 350August 21, 2022 7:54 PM

lmao Garcia said to the crowd "sometimes people ask for an autograph but they don't know who we are. You do".

I didn't realize people did that. I'm not an autograph person but why go up to someone if you don't know who the person is?

by Anonymousreply 351August 21, 2022 8:03 PM

Garcia thanked her box but only mentioned her coach specifically

and Kvitova confirmed she's dating her coach

by Anonymousreply 352August 21, 2022 8:03 PM

When Garcia effusively praised Kvitova for her kindness and friendly presence on the tour, I can't be the only one who mentally inserted "Unlike some of my compatriots." (Sure, they've ostensibly buried the hatchet, but she knows Kiki and Alize are always down for drama.)

hoping for Coric but obviously Tsitsipas is the favorite based on experience.

I'm surprised Coric has done so well on the fastest hardcourt because his forehand can fall apart when rushed. His serving has been incredible though. I always knew his first serve was decent but he's been consistently hitting in the 130s which is new for him.

by Anonymousreply 358August 21, 2022 8:13 PM

Yet again Citybus aiming balls directly at his opponent. He really is a cunt. No wonder all the players hate him. Can't believe I'm agreeing with Kyrgios.

by Anonymousreply 373August 21, 2022 9:31 PM

Jason Goodall can't be all that bright. When Courier said earlier that Tsitsipas wanted to play doubles in Canada last week but couldn't find a partner, Goodall was shocked. Um hello? Tsitsipas is 1 of the most hated players on tour. He's had so many contentious matches with players over the years.

Off the top of my head: several against Medvedev, Zverev and Kyrgios. He also pissed off Murray with the toilet breaks at last year's USO. His USO match a few years ago against Coric was contentious as is the match today. Additionally, he welcomed Alcaraz to the tour with shitty behavior both at the USO last year and their clay match this year.

It doesn't matter how talented he is. If hardly anyone likes him, he'll have trouble finding partners. Rune is new to the tour and a brat himself so their partnership makes sense. I do wonder if Tsitsipas will behave badly when they play each other in singles or if he'll show more courtesy

Tsitsipas is like the ATP Sharapova. Her main friend for a while was Kirilenko but in the last few years of their careers that friendship fell apart too after a contentious Indian Wells match

US Open tennis stars set to raise relief funds for Ukraine

The U.S. Open will step up for Ukraine during the reinstated “Fan Week,’’ with a star-laden tennis exhibition Wednesday night at the USTA National Tennis Center.

The USTA has set up “Tennis Plays for Peace,’’ with its signature event to be held at Flushing Meadows on Aug. 24, which is Ukraine Independence Day.

A series of singles and mixed doubles matches will be staged, highlighted by Rafael Nadal, along with teenage sensations Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff.

Also participating will be lefty Leylah Fernandez, last year’s surprise Open finalist; John McEnroe; Poland’s Iga Swiatek, who took the WTA tour by storm earlier this year with a 37-match winning streak; rising American standout Taylor Fritz; young Canadian stud Felix Auger-Aliassime; former Open champion Victoria Azarenka; Italy’s serving menace, Matteo Berrettini; and American top-10 standout Jessica Pegula.

Tennis legend Serena Williams will not participate, as she is unable to get out of prior commitments leading up to her final U.S. Open. The matches will be telecast on ESPN+, hosted by Patrick McEnroe.

Tickets for the two-hour tennis festival are priced at $25 and $50. Globalgiving, which has a Ukraine crisis relief fund, will receive 100 percent of the proceeds. The USTA hopes to raise at least $2 million for Ukraine over the next three weeks.

Wimbledon got political over the Russian invasion of Ukraine when it banned Russians from participating, including 2021 Open champion Daniil Medvedev. It was a controversial move that sparked the WTA and ATP to eliminate awarding tour points for the 2022 Wimbledon.

Russians will be permitted to compete at the U.S. Open, but Serbian Novak Djokovic, will not be allowed. A federal law prohibits unvaccinated individuals who aren’t American citizens from entering the country, and Djokovic is not vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Ukraine fundraiser is a keystone event of “U.S. Open Fan Week,” which is back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

“Fan Week’’ will be highlighted by the qualifying tournament and Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on Saturday. The qualifier event was held without fans the past two years. The main draw will being next Monday with no policy on vaccinations.

‘Drunk’ fan Ania Palus suing Nick Kyrgios for Wimbledon outburst

She likely didn’t have “700 drinks.”

Tennis fan and Polish lawyer Ania Palus is suing Nick Kyrgios for defamation after she claims the tennis star’s Wimbledon finals outburst caused her “considerable harm.” During the third set of Kyrgios’ loss to Novak Djokovic, the Australian claimed that Palus was distracting him during his serve.

“Why is she still here?” Kyrgios complained to the umpire. “She’s drunk out of her mind and speaking to me in the middle of a game. What’s acceptable? OK, kick her out. I know exactly which one it is. The one in the dress, who looks like she’s had about 700 drinks bro.”

Palus was escorted out of the stadium, but was allowed to return 15 minutes later after having some water. She later said she had only had drunk a Pimms and a glass of Rose.

“I wanted to give him support. Maybe I took it too far… but I only had good intentions,” she said. “It’s the temperature for me, I had no hat. I’m really sorry.”

However, Palus is now hoping to make Kyrgios sorry.

“It was an event we had been looking forward to for some time,” said Palus, who was in attendance at the tennis Grand Slam with her mother.

“During the course of the final, Nick Kyrgios made a reckless and entirely baseless allegation against me.

“Not only did this cause considerable harm on the day, resulting in my temporary removal from the arena, but Mr Kyrgios’ false allegation was broadcast to, and read by, millions around the world, causing me and my family very substantial damage and distress. I am not litigious, but after much consideration, I have concluded that that I have no alternative but to instruct my solicitors Brett Wilson LLP to bring defamation proceedings against Mr Kyrgios in order to clear my name.

“The need to obtain vindication, and to prevent repetition of the allegation, are the only reasons for taking legal action. Any damages recovered will be donated to charity. Given the extant claim, I am unable to comment further on the events of the day in question. I hope that Mr Kyrgios will reflect on the harm he has caused me and my family and offer a prompt resolution to this matter. However, if he is unwilling to do this, I am committed to obtaining vindication in the High Court.”

Palus’ lawsuit is not the only legal issue Kyrgios is dealing with. Kyrgios is facing assault charges in Australia over accusations from ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari. Kyrgios’ lawyer pushed for a three-month adjournment of the case, but was denied by a judge at a hearing on Monday. Kyrgios is now due in an Australian court on Oct. 4 for the matter.
