Her name is Lynne Mishele, R10.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 12, 2022 3:55 AM |
R10 it’s not excusable on Anne’s part and what she did was terribly reckless and irresponsible, but there is still a difference between someone losing their possessions and someone losing their life—especially a parent with kids. Even though it’s of her own doing, it’s a sad situation.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 12, 2022 4:02 AM |
R12, her kids aren’t really liable. A lawsuit will come out of Anne’s money, so they may not get anything, but it isn’t the same as them being liable. The victims should absolutely be financially compensated by her estate. The kids have a dad to care for them, which is more than a lot of kids have.

You know, I am really saddened by this. The woman will never get any credit for it, and I will probably be excoriated for saying it, but back in the day, back in 19-fucking-97, Anne Heche actually helped to move the needle for gay people. She did that whether or not she ultimately identified as gay herself. I won’t forget that and I hope other people don’t forget it either.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 12, 2022 4:20 AM |
It may have been adrenaline, R32. My great-grandfather had a story about seeing someone get up and run home after being hit by a car, only to die when they reached their house. Great grandpa was a physician who served in World War II, and said it wasn’t unheard of (although rare) for someone to experience a surge of energy after a traumatic injury.
An anoxic brain injury suggests it was caused by lack of oxygen, rather than damage suffered in the car accident. It must have been terrifying to be conscious while trapped in a burning car. No matter what decisions Anne made that led to this (and how intentional they were) it’s a sad way to go.

I posted about this before, but I saw a kid get decapitated while riding his bike while I was on the way to work 13 years ago. I was at a 4 way stop intersection and a car plowed right through and hit him. He was decapitated (head kind of dangling but not completely off) with his helmet still on, and he pushed his body up on his elbow like he was trying to get up. It’s a reflex thing.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 12, 2022 4:43 AM |
I kind of agree with r35; in 1997-98, Anne Heche was half of the most famous lesbian couple in America, and her casting as the lead in Six Days, Seven Nights opposite Harrison Ford was big news. Those were incredible times. Then the break-up, the breakdowns, and all the hetero relationships puts it all in a different perspective. Now this.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 12, 2022 4:44 AM |
In the footage of her sitting up while being put into the ambulance that people are referring to, she was possibly still conscious and in a state of confusion (and terrible pain). From the reports I’ve read, it sounds like she lost consciousness shortly after the accident, likely while being rushed to the hospital. Irrespective of when she was precisely at the point of “lights out”, her last conscious moments had to have been utterly horrifying. I presume she has been brain dead since the day of the crash, but the family and doctors were giving her some time to see if there was any upward progress. It’s a tragedy even if the responsibility falls on her. It seems she was in a downward spiral for some time now, but I’m sure few expected it to end like this.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 12, 2022 4:46 AM |

R35 r59 I completely agree. Anne Heche dominated the media for weeks at that time. It was all about “Will audiences buy a gay actress in a straight romantic movie?” We were just getting out of the AIDS era and moving into the fight for marriage equality and Anne Heche and Ellen were part of that era.

Here’s the link to the Gofundme for the woman whose house burned down, it’s at $134,000, which is not a lot, since she lives in LA, needs to hire a lawyer and replace all her things. It will likely take a long time for her to get any money from the estate, even if it’s not protected. And she’s lost all her business contacts, she’s going to have to start over trying to reconstruct everything. That’s not as much as it sounds like.
It’s kind of surprising to me that people aren’t doing more to help her, LA is very expensive to live in and she has to be very traumatized by this. She’s going to need therapy and a place to live.

R77, her lungs were so damaged she couldn’t take in air. The brain damage may have happened after the accident, but if your lungs can’t work any more, the options are really limited. She wouldn’t have been a good subject for a lung transplant, even if one was available.

R79 exactly. Given the severity of her burn injuries, a lung transplant wouldn't have been possible—her body would have been in far too delicate of a state to undergo an operation like that. Furthermore, there's obviously no point in transplanting lungs into a patient who is already braindead. The damage was unfortunately already done.

R47 inhaling smoke and fumes from the interior of a burning car for 30 minutes is more enough to ruin your lungs and render you unable to breathe. All of the reports of her sustaining "pulmonary injury" would suggest that the brain death was caused by lack of oxygen, not head trauma.

I was reading about her two sons and it sounds like they were close. In a post, Anne said they looked out for each other when Homer was like 12 and the other one 5ish. And Anne had an episode where she claimed her husband (younger son's father) locked her out of the house -- and yet it turned out that her older son (by a different man) had spent the night at that house, and so the accused wondered if "sustained drug use" had something to do with her making up the weird claim, because she could have had her older son let her in, if she forgot the code or lost the key -- as he hadn't changed the locks/code, like she claimed.
I didn't explain that very well but it's easy to find reports about her custody battles - with BOTH sons, that went on for years and years.

Because of the fire and debris that fell on top of the car, the firefighters were unable to get to the car and remove Heche. They had a special fire truck with a crane, and had to attach steel cables to the car and literally pull it outside of the house using a winch.
Some dumb ass from fox news also made an ignorant comment, claiming that the firefighters were just standing around, without any sense.of urgency, and wrongly assumed the victim was probably already dead. They also kept referring to the victim as "he/that guy."

This is what the fire fighters saw upon their arrival to the house (note that their hoses have not filled with water yet). The car was another 30 feet further inside, covered in rubble, and the passenger doors were inaccessible. In addition to punching through the front wall (which had a large picture window), Heche's car obliterated the kitchen wall.

[quote]Every time I come on here and see a thread about her bumped I think it might be because she died.
Because R90 has no connection to the real world or other news sources? The only thing I know about the world is what I read on Datalounge! Gee, her thread was bumped a lot. I remember Anne from my afternoon stories that I watched with Gramma.
DL just copies and pastes breaking news from Page Six Alerts. Are you aware how pathetic you sound old dude?
Anne Heche is dead and the bitch living in that garage will be making the rounds and collecting pity funds. More dog pics.
Heche was a pretty good actress and she didn't give gays or lesbians a bad name or reputation. That kind of thinking comes from weak and insecure old gays living in their town, still. At 60 years old. Nobody gives gays or blacks or Asians or women or worms or preachers a bad name but themselves. Heche was mentally ill - but she was living her life and following her heart and desires. Love is at least lust and being "gay" with Ellen cost Anne her film career. She went on to be a mom and remained a loving person. Troubled. Sad. Destructive.
Who the fuck checks Datalounge threads to find out if a famous person burned up in a horrendous car crash is feeling better? Or DEAD. Or preferably disfigured and charged with attempted murder! A lot of low level human beings on this site.

From her wiki:
The family settled in Ocean City, New Jersey, when Heche was twelve years old. Due to the family's strained finances, Anne went to work at a dinner theater in Swainton.[9][10] "At the time we’d been kicked out of our house and my family was holed up living in a bedroom in the home of a generous family from our church," she said.[11] "I got $100 a week, which was more than anyone else in my family. We all pooled our money in an envelope in a drawer and saved up enough to move out after a year."[11]
On March 3, 1983, when Heche was 13, her 45-year-old father died of HIV/AIDS, which she believed was contracted from a homosexual partner: "He was in complete denial until the day he died. We know he got it from his gay relationships. Absolutely. I don't think it was just one. He was a very promiscuous man, and we knew his lifestyle then," Heche said on Larry King Live.[8] Heche said that he repeatedly raped her from the time she was an infant until she was 12, giving her genital herpes.[12] When asked "But why would a gay man rape a girl?" in a 2001 interview with The Advocate, Heche replied "I don't think he was just a gay man. I think he was sexually deviant. My belief was that my father was gay and he had to cover that up. I think he was sexually abusive. The more he couldn't be who he was, the more that came out of him in [the] ways that it did."[12] In a 1998 interview, she reflected that her father being closeted ultimately "destroyed his happiness and our family. But it did teach me to tell the truth. Nothing else is worth anything."[13]
Three months after her father's death, Heche's 18-year-old brother Nathan was killed in a car crash.[11] The official determination was that he fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree,[6] though Heche claims it was suicide.
Holy shit, poor bitch. What's a bet she topped herself the same way her brother did.

Everyone thinks firefighters bust in as if real life is like the movies.
There was a house fire in my area years ago where neighbors blamed firefighters for the residents' deaths because the firefighters didn't just rush in like in Backdraft. Meanwhile, the neighbors had busted the windows trying to get into the house, which only fed the fire.
Regular people mostly just need to stay out of the way in these kinds of emergencies.

R94, she did, and on the episode of Ellen that Anne famously guest starred in, Ellen rushes into the ER because she heard her girlfriend Laurie was in a severe auto wreck. Anne played Laurie’s ex-girlfriend who was also there checking in on her status. She figures out who Ellen is and decides to be play mind games with her. Eventually Laurie’s sister shows up at the hospital and makes a nasty comment about Anne’s character, telling her to leave because “that’s what she’s good at.”
Lots of weird parallels in that episode. Laurie was the name of Ellen’s dead ex. Her and Anne had a really nice chemistry in that episode. I think the idea was for Ellen to move on from the real Laurie to Anne symbolically and in the TV/PR narrative. Anne would eventually ditch her and die in her own horrible auto wreck.

r155, They both got ENORMOUS, constant publicity and media cheerleading out of it. Her relationship with Ellen made her a STAH.
Ellen knew that, which is why she went to extraordinary lengths to detroy Anne Heche's reputation and career after the relationship ended. Ellen wanted to be damned sure that Anne got a lot less out of being with Ellen than she might have, and to ensure that if Anne used her, she profited as little as possible from it.
To the poster claiming they were "brave" and "how hard it was". Stop gaslighting those of us who were there. They were THE couple to be covering, to be seen with, to have at one's event. They were hardly "brave". The 90's was very pro gay and nobody can tell me othewise because I was fucking THERE.

I'm happy for a gay person to be recognized and celebrated. Ellen didn't deserve this honor. She's a whitewashed toilet trained innocuous gay woman. She won't even say the word lesbian. Too radical. She came out and then immediately went about trying to reframe being gay in the most heteronormative ways. Anne Heche kind of screwed up Ellen's deal for a while. Because it was a predatory lie Ellen lived. She's not a bottom. Ellen's next ex Alexandra Hedison has been very happily married to Jodie Foster for many years now. They live quietly. No medal of Freedom for Jodie. She'd be mortified. Ha.

I am really bummed by this whole thing. I have always liked her. She was nutty, but (for the most part) endearingly so. Her problems were no doubt related to her abusive upbringing and dysfunctional family, as well as (ostensibly) some genetic predisposition to mental illness. Both of her parents were royally fucked up, and clearly did irreversible psychological damage on their children. Her family story is a tragedy of grand proportions—abusive father, a denialist Jesus freak mother, and all but one of her siblings predeceased her. The whole family seemed to splinter apart after her father's death, and they all estranged from one another. It's just plain sad.
As some have noted, Anne was a legitimate talent. Unfortunately, her role in the zeitgeist seems to be forever reduced to her relatively short relationship with Ellen; now, given the way she's leaving this earth, it'll be paired with her extreme self-destruction. Hopefully she'll at some point get some recognition for her acting, which was consistently very good. She gave great performances in Donnie Brasco, Six Days Seven Nights, Birth, My Friend Dahmer, and even the ridiculous Psycho remake (which I actually in truth find some enjoyment in). She could handle drama and comedy, and often stole the show in whatever she was in. She was a quirky and believable actress.

Anne was mentally ill and an addict and it makes no sense attack her now that she's brain dead. It was a target all around but the woman so be fine and will most likely come out of this even better than where she was before the accident.

[quote]In the footage of her sitting up while being put into the ambulance that people are referring to, she was possibly still conscious and in a state of confusion (and terrible pain).
I'm still convinced she was coughing and not entirely conscious, based on the couple of seconds we saw of her in the video that was taken from the sidewalk next to the ambulance. I don't think it was adrenaline or similar to some headless dead guy running back home after being dead or whatever. The jerky movement she made looked to me like she was trying to cough and wasn't able to while lying down, so sat up reflexively, like you would if you have a bad cold and are only half awake.
If her lungs were damaged enough that she couldn't properly get oxygen, it may have been a relatively slow progression from injured to brain dead. I mean "relatively" literally here, as in she may have been injured but somewhat conscious in the ambulance, but 5-10 minutes of hypoxia from lack of oxygen during the transport could have been enough to cause brain death, even if she was ventilated immediately upon arrival.

California firefighters may be brave and strong as human beings, but they absolutely do NOT go in to help anymore until the danger is passed. Not worth it to them, I suppose.
Source: I was in Malibu during the 2018 Wolsey Fire, helping to save my friend's house with nothing more than constant, 24 hour application of garden hoses and pool water. We each took turns while the other slept.
We were in the fire for three days and nights and we saw TWO individual firefighters in a mini-truck in all that time. Two in 72 hours. This was across PCH from Zuma beach. Most of the area burned.
They simply never came. No one did, and nearly the entire area just burned down around us. My friend was a lifelong Californian, and knew that no one would save her house if we didn't stay and do it.
She was incredibly right.

I have no sympathy for Anne. I know that is cold but I am unable to do that. I have known three people who died as a result of someone who decided it was okay to drive while fucked up. I feel some sympathy for the woman who lived in the house Anne decided to use as a target but she's alive, she's uninjured, she can rebuild her life. The people who have my sympathy are Anne's children. My mother died in January of this year. She wasn't a young woman so her death, while sudden, wasn't entirely unexpected but her absence has made life seem weird and somehow wrong but I assume those feelings will be gone one day. Anne's children lost their mother so suddenly, so out of the blue and under such bizarre circumstances. They have to be reeling in shock, everything must seem to be unreal to them. Add to that the fact that Anne's impending death is happening under the glare of the media spotlight. The media can be vultures but that is a thought for another thread. Her children will probably have to deal with the legal fallout from Anne's crash. I am hoping that her car insurance company will take on that responsibility. Her children have enough to deal with as it is. I think we all knew Anne's death was a foregone conclusion. She was trapped in a burning car for an hour or so. There is no coming back from that.

It’s not just an unfortunate circumstance. It’s the violent and unexpected event of having someone drive at high speed 30 feet into your house. It’s not like losing your home in foreclosure. It’s an event that will probably generate anxiety and fear for her physical safety for some time.

[quote]Most people who suffer an unfortunate circumstance do not suffer from "severe PTSD for rest of their lives."
This is something I don't understand about the "Who gives a shit about Heche, won't someone think of the renter?" line of thinking. You can have empathy for everyone in a situation like this. You can think Heche was a POS and still be horrified by how her life ended.
"Her home was DESTROYED!" doesn't negate that the renter is alive and physically healthy, while Heche will have died one of the most grotesque self-inflicted deaths imaginable. In my twenties, my apartment was destroyed in the blink of an eye on a tranquil, snowy morning because of the misdeeds of my neighbors, so I'm not talking out of my ass.
One minute you're reading the newspaper and eating breakfast, the next you're vulnerable and homeless, uncertain if your possessions can be salvaged. All because of someone else's actions. (They started, and then ignored, a fire. Three fire trucks later, water destroyed whatever the fire hadn't.) It was traumatic, yes. But no one was seriously injured or died, so you pick up the pieces and move on. If you can't find a healthy way to move on from such things, you'll be as tortured as Heche your whole life.

That's where Ellen could step up. Ellen could give credit where it is due and put aside her ego and feelings for once and acknowledge how groundbreaking that was for people. Since Anne has a minor child, I wonder if that will effect her estate. A lawsuit couldn’t just take money away from a child after their parent dies, can it?
I know that claims against an estate must be made within a certain number of days after death. If, say, Anne died with a property tax lien, the municipality would make a claim and the amount would be paid from her estate before the heirs would get a penny.
But if there are minor children, I don’t know what happens.

Anne publicly cuckholded Ellen- ditching her for Coley Laffoon the cameraman and then getting pregnant. I’m sure Ellen doesn’t give one fuck about this. She probably rolled her eyes, said good riddance and went back to processing some seemingly minor argument with Portia.

The nastiness on this thread towards the renter seems to be due to her being seen as diverting sympathy some people feel is due properly instead to Anne.

My $0.02 as to what happened (as someone with a little medical knowledge). She was flailing about on gurney initially because she was still highly inebriated, in a lot of pain, and likely pissed off at the EMS crew for moving her about causing her more pain. Hospital staff likely noted she had signs of inhalational injury and preemptively intubated her. The inflammation in her lungs caused massive edema, making her lungs essentially useless at delivering oxygen. No oxygen = organ failure = brain death. The end. Sorry if this has already been answered. I’m too tired to go through other posts.

An estate can certainly be sued, and the executor of the estate, or the Trustee of the trust, (often the same person) is required by law to settle any debts the estate has. There is a certain time period for any creditors to file a claim against the estate.
If a court became involved, the court would not allow the trust to be dissolved and distributed until all claims or debts the estate had were settled.
If there is a case against Anne's estate due to this incident, it could delay the dissolution of the trust and distribution of its assets for a long time.

Your lungs are actually more toward the back of your torso, so patients frequently pronate (lie prone) when they're having trouble breathing, because it helps respiration.
In early COVID days I read a lot of healthcare professionals talking about how difficult it was to get people to pronate for a while, because COVID was so painful that turning over was impossible for many of them.

[quote] I wonder if the homeowner's insurance will also sue Heche's estate?
You bet they will.
Insurance companies sue anyone that they can to cover their payouts. This will include Anne's car insurance (which will reach a limit, and then she/her estate would be fair game), any liability insurance she has (most wealthy people have an extra policy), the house insurance of the home owner, and the property insurer of that apartment garage that she hit.
Most likely get together and settle out of court with Anne's lawyers, since there is only a finite amount of money in her estate. (She probably was not super rich.)
The first to sue/get to her money will be the hospital. Those bitches don't wait.

This is very sad news, I had hoped she would make it for the sake of her children and family.
Mental illness and addictions are terrible, most people can’t comprehend what it’s like for the individual suffering or the effects on their loved ones who are left feeling frustrated and helpless, it’s tragic for all involved.
I’m glad she didn’t kill anyone at least, the house and material possessions can be replaced and both the owner and tenant have my sympathy as well, they didn’t ask for this and do not deserve the online vitriol.

After taking a shower, Heche entered the living room, asked for a pair of slippers, and suggested that they should watch a movie. Heche later told the deputies that she was "God, and was going to take everyone back to heaven in a spaceship."

by Anonymous | reply 369 | August 12, 2022 5:57 PM |
So she only died because she was an entitled celeb who thought she was above the law and didn't need to get out of the car when the cop told her so? She probably threw a hissy-fit in the car, thinking to herself "Nope, this cop ain't gonna ruin my career with a scandalous arrest, I rather flee the scene". Then she drove off like the drunk whore she was, endangering others and ruining that woman's house. What an idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 371 | August 12, 2022 6:14 PM |
R371, there wasn’t a cop at that scene. If you think that He He was in her right mind and thinking of her career when she drove off, you haven’t been following this story very closely. You seem to need to construct a story to focus your anger. God bless.

I just did a quick google because I was curious if insurance companes cover you if you're impaired (the way life insurance won't pay if you kill yourself):
"Does insurance cover DUI accidents in California? Generally, insurance companies in California are not required to pay for damages caused by an intentional and illegal act. Upon first consideration, this makes it sound like insurance companies will not pay for drunk driving accidents, as DUIs are illegal."

Well, at least they performed better than the cops at Uvalde who waited 70-something minutes before confronting a killer who had a bunch of little children in the room with him (and the cops had weapons and the children were helpless).
But to the Heche case, maybe they had to put the fire out to safely get inside to the car? Though if they had already done that and stood there waiting for a crane, then yeah, that's appalling.

by Anonymous | reply 379 | August 12, 2022 6:29 PM |
She's lucky to have died, burns are painful and disfiguring. Not to make this about me, but my grandfather accidently set his pajamas on fire and had third-degree burns all over his back. He had to be treated at the state burn unit; I heard burn patients crying and screaming in agony.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | August 12, 2022 6:41 PM |
She was in for a whole lot of agony -- unless they've found a way to medicate people with terrible burns so they don't suffer.
They have to have bandages repeatedly changed - the wounds cleaned up - it's just staggeringly painful, so I've heard. Maybe treatment has improved and they sedate people before working on their wounds, but that has to be done frequently or infection would kill them for sure.
Then there's the damage to her lungs, which I don't even want to contemplate.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | August 12, 2022 7:04 PM |
R381 alcohol lung?
by Anonymous | reply 382 | August 12, 2022 7:05 PM |
Burnt lungs..
by Anonymous | reply 383 | August 12, 2022 7:06 PM |
Don't most people who die from fires die from smoke inhalation?
I don't know what alcohol lung is, R382. She had soooo much potential lung damage - the smoke, the crap that comes out of airbags, the melting plastics inside the car (I think some of that gets in the air and can be inhaled at high temps).
I hope all these considerations help her son Homer feel better about the decision he's had to make - and surely her other family or exes, friends, etc., would help him. There was a video of him and her podcast partner having a long hug in the hospital parking lot, and a different young woman left the hospital with him -- then at house later, there were two women about his age photo'd (probably by DM) leaving his house and he was at the door, shirtless, saying goodbye to them -- and they had shorts and halter tops - very sexy girls, not that that's important... but implies he has some good, supportive friends.

Oh lord - that just makes it worse. And how did she use the cocaine? If she snorted it, that's not exactly good for your nose and throat, either, and may affect lungs?
And really, all this is irrelevant if she was declared brain dead. Which would effectively make Homer's decision pretty clear - and I'm sure the doctors would help him understand.

I looked at the younger boy's dad's Facebook and he seemed so devoted to the kid (his only one and dad's around 50). That made me feel better.
Judging from Homer's girlfriends - apparent closeness to his younger half-brother (whose dad let Homer stay at his house), he has a stepmother and two young half-sisters (preteens or early teens I think).
Anyway, makes me feel better about the future for those kids, as awful as the immediate future must be for them. Maybe they'll be open to therapy, if it's extra rough-going.

by Anonymous | reply 406 | August 13, 2022 12:14 AM |
I’m still confused about how she went from sitting up and flailing around on the stretcher to ‘brain dead.’ The brain has to be deprived of all blood flow and oxygen for several minutes for that to occur. I guess her lungs were so fried that they couldn’t absorb any oxygen at all despite manually ventilating her. Yikes.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | August 13, 2022 12:23 AM |
I think someone said on one of the videos of her rising up on the gurney that it looked like she was coughing. Maybe she was gasping for air?
Though she answered that neighbor who tried to help her, when he said, "Are you ok?" - she was able to say "No"
I guess damage takes a while to take full effect. I've heard of people shot who are bleeding out but they're able to walk a ways, talk to people, etc. Not everything shuts down immediately.
