Why Did “I Love Lucy” Do So Many “Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Cheating On Her” Stories

It's interesting to look at the storylines and themes artists were drawn to after they're gone. You do start to see patterns. The roles actors take, the films writers and directors pick to work on, the songs singers decide to sing, etc.

Ball seemed to have a lot of power with the direction the scripts would go, so maybe she give the writers a few ideas and thought maybe covering a topic like this would make Desi think about what he'd done and how it could hurt someone. Clearly, it didn't make much of an impression on him, but I suppose it could have been the case.

I read that she only had Desi as her husband on the show to keep an eye on him. He would be on the road all the time if she didn’t. They filed for divorce a few years before the show started. They even fucked the day before she was heading to court to file. She got dressed and still went that day. Desi couldn’t believe it. She did drop it.

1 - Not everyone knew Desi Arnaz was major skirt hound at the time. Yes, Hollywood and other entertainment circles and so forth, but average Mr. and Mrs. America in Podunk, Flyover USA likely didn't.

2 - Desi Arnaz was a very handsome man who was surrounded by nature of his work with young and attractive women. Band leaders, night club owners, musicians, etc... were known often to be skirt chasers.

A good many wives of band leaders, musicians, night club owners of the time showed up nightly (or often as they could) to stake out their territory as it were. It may or may not have done much good as their husbands still pulled, but you can't blame a girl for trying.

3 - Lucy wanted to be in show business, and Ricky kept saying "no". However a young thing who was willing to do whatever it took (and there were plenty) likely could have scored a chance or even job.
