Do you think she was a good actress or not? She had a distinctive voice.
Sondra was from Tennesee and purposely changed her Southern accent.

No, she was awful in pretty much everything. I'm puzzled by the constant refrain that Clint Eastwood ruined her career - she had a much, much longer career than she would normally have had because of him.

Didn’t he slap her around?

She wasn't a great actress, but she was usually competent.

I loved her in Bronco Billy.

Terrible actress

She SUCKED in the clip OP posted. The actor playing the cop pasted her.

I’m reading Sondra’s 1997 memoir. I feel sad for her. Clint sounds like a petty asshole, even though I love his movies. Really, how could any woman have hoped to hang onto him forever? She had a good run with him, but he could have ended it more gently and generously.

She wasn't a BAD actress. Fuck off.
She got fucked over by Eastwood and she went after him (at a time when women "sat down with their mouths' shut") and she still lost in court, unfortunately!
Today, in a court of law, she would have won and made him look like a piece-of-shit!

Jane Brolin really emerges as a villainess in the book. Always making trouble between Sondra and Clint, who had a weird attachment to her.

I don’t know why exactly, other than he’s possibly a huge Clint fan, but my dad hated Sondra with an intense passion & I never really knew why. He thought she was a bad actress & hideously ugly.
The only other female celeb he hated that much was Flo Henderson, but Mom really hated her equally.

OP The gauntlet was an awful film it was like being locked in a shooting gallery. Locke's best performance was her first and she was Oscar nominated as was Arkin who is excellent.

A dull psychological thriller with Locke as a repressed young girl.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 28, 2022 6:21 AM |
disappointing sophomore effort of both Locke and director Noel (Pretty Poison) Black

Her first directorial effort was a film titled Ratboy and she starred in a popular sleeper hit about rats, Willard (1971)

She directed Teresa Russell in Impulse (1980)

REX REED
I was shocked to read about the death of actress Sondra Locke, the girlfriend and living companion of Clint Eastwood who lied so much during her brief but colorful career that when she lost her battle with cancer at age 74, I wondered if it was a publicity stunt. When I met her in 1968, she had been cast in the starring role of the long-awaited film version of Carson McCullers’ literary masterpiece The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. She told me she was an unknown 14-year-old adolescent from Shelbyville, Tennessee. She was actually a 24-year-old living in a Bel Air mansion with Eastwood, who co-starred with her in six films, directing her in four of them himself. In 1989, after years of domestic partnership, she sued him for palimony and fraud in two trials that hypnotized Tinsel Town

Rex reed needs to get his facts straight. In 1968 Sondra had never even met Clint.

R18 Indeed, and to call HER a liar? Is that even a real quote from Rex?

Also what a stupid headline - “The biggest stars of 2018.” I used to read the observer, does it no longer employ competent fact checkers and headline writers?

I saw this on YouTube Sandra talking about her dogs. I don't know how recent this clip is

I thought I posted this already but it seems to have disappeared. I said there was a delicate quality about Sondra, that might tend to bring out either a protective instinct or cruelty in a man. While we don’t know what went on between her and Clint privately, on paper at least he was a dick.

She was married to Gordon Anderson from 1967 till her death in 2018. He was homosexual. I assume the man seated next to her at 1969 Academy Awards is Gordon. Gordon won.

^Yes and he also made the dress Sondra wore to the Oscars. He and Sondra were childhood friends in Shelbyville,TN.
