Star: Like a Virgin

OP, are you a I'm singer? Are you waiting to make it big? Madonna was worldwide sensation in her 20s. How is that old? Or, why do you think that demonstrates that it took forever for her to acquire fame?

She's the mother of Christ our Savior. Repent OP.

When did Madonna first become famous and when did she first become a star?
She first became famous on October 28th, 1929 when she escaped out of a locked water tank while wearing a straightjacket a la Houdini.
But unlike Houdini she was only wearing the straight jacket.
"Also, why did it take so long for her to become known?"
Stock market crashed the next day and the Depression began.

Everybody made her known as a dance club singer.
Borderline and the video made her known in general.
Like a Virgin and specifically the performance on the MTV Awards made her a sensation.

She wasn’t famous from the song Everybody. That much I know.

Poor thing’s career is in the shitter. Maybe we should discuss when she became a has-been.

American Bandstand then MTV.

OP is a Madonna stan who created this thread on Madonna so we could talk about her…he already knows everything about Madonna, including how high her mother’s legs were up in the air at the time of conception…

Madonna had her first hit single "Holiday" when she was 25. It was a fun song about enjoying life and people loved it. She had that special It/Success factor and took off like a rocket having hit after hit.

Yes, Holiday was pretty well known. But Like a Virgin made her a real star, and she followed that quite quickly with Desperately Seeking Susan, which sealed the deal. The fact that she wore the same very distinctive fashion style in the video clip for LaV and in the movie was a second factor in establishing her. Like Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, women wanted to dress like her, so she was established in pop culture beyond just the music.
Then she cleverly launched the Material Girl clip, in which she was dressed and made up completely differently (to look like Monroe), and that got everyone's attention all over again. She was a master of reinvention throughout the decade-long peak of her career.

Borderline/Holiday/Lucky Star/Into the Groove - FAMOUS; Like a Virgin - MEGASTAR; Ray of Light - "ARTIST"; Erotica - WHORE MOTHER; American Live - The downward spiral begins; MDNA - Asshole. Madame X - Unlistenable.

First blush of fame came from "Everybody" hitting the dance charts late 1982 - early 1983. Her first top 40 hit, "Holiday," was fall 1983. "Borderline" was one of the big songs of summer 1983. "Like a Virgin" made her a household name in fall of 1984.

That last tour at BAM was the worst piece of shit I ever sat (half) through. People walked out in droves. Starting at 11:30 was not a great idea, Miss M.

I have always wondered why she didn't make a proper music video for HOLIDAY. That was her first top 40 hit so I think there should have been a video for it. It is also the most remembered song from her debut album. All of the other singles from it got a video, even the ones that weren't as popular.
Had there been a video for it, she might have first became a star in 1983 instead of in 1984 with Like A Virgin. The song combined with the video would have been huge.
What a big mistake and a wasted opportunity.
Also, why wasn't her first single/video EVERYBODY played on Mtv? The first video they played of hers was BURNING UP. If they would have played it in 1982, her career would have took off quicker.
I don't understand why she wasn't promoted more at the very beginning of her career.
What a shame and what wasted opportunities.
Who agrees and also why didn't she make a video for HOLIDAY?!?

She's average at best in regards to talent and gets an F- for originality. Her ambition and vagina are what made her famous.

R19 I don't think the record company was expecting the first album to have as many chart hits as it did. They were waiting to release Like A Virgin. I think that's why there wasn't a video for Holiday.

Star is a pretty big word for her career. She was good at manipulating the press and building a career as a celebrity using her thin voice. Her controversies were always bigger than her talent (think Erotica). When everyone started to manipulate the press, she got left behind with just her voice. Which wasn’t terrible, but never great. Now, it’s all gone down the shitter and we’re left with her mental illness.

When did Cyndi Lauper's fame first start to fade?

Let's ask her. She still lives in 1990.

Everybody turns 40 in less than 2 months from now.
She better not fuck with the original recordings or leave out a ton of stuff people want on the album reissues.

ONE singing lesson and a yeast infection which caused her to wear her inderwear on the OUTSIDE of her clothes made her a star.
Then, she was looking at her photo album and said "Hey, wouldnt this makes great coffee table book- as is?" And that, children, is how Madonna's "book" "SEX" came to be.
