Do Any Of These Actors Have A Second Chance To Redeem Their Careers?

Or did their deeds permanently make them unredeemable? Thomas Gibson Stephan Collins Kevin Spacey Jeffrey Jones Jussie Smollett O.J. Gina Carano Emile Hirsch Brian Williams Ezra Miller Armie Hammer Roseanne Barr lance Armstrong Danny Masterson R.Kelly

by Anonymousreply 61August 23, 2022 12:11 PM

Brian Williams the actor? Sure, he was on 30 Rock...

by Anonymousreply 1August 8, 2022 2:04 AM

Not Danny Masterson or R. Kelly or Stephen Collins.

by Anonymousreply 2August 8, 2022 2:09 AM

Thomas Gibson is the only one who might because his crimes were being verbally abusive, shoving an assistant director, and kicking a writer - basically anger management issues.

The other ones committed offenses that have a moral component, so if you don't censure them, you appear to condone being a pedo or a psycho cannibal or political loon.

Brian Williams is a specific case because he lied, but his career is based on his being a "trusted" source of new and information. So, while he could work at some place like Faux News where truthful reporting is unnecessary, his ego won't let him.

by Anonymousreply 3August 8, 2022 2:11 AM

R. Kelly is going to prison, so no.

Roseanne, no. She's too old and also unstable.

Jussie, yes. He could rebuild within his community. A lot of people still support him.

Spacey, fuck no. He's insane and he freaks everyone out. He has embraced being a supervillain.

O.J. was revered then was a murderer and now he is a joke. No redemption.

Lance Armstrong aged out of athlete years, so no.

Ezra Miller seems to be mentally ill and dangerous. I expect they will kill someone and then go to prison,

Armie Hammer...if he can get a bodybuilder body and do some shirtless scenes in a movie, sure, everyone will forgive him even if he has human heads in his freezer.

by Anonymousreply 4August 8, 2022 2:11 AM

I *still* don't get what Armie Hammer did that was so wrong. He said he wanted to eat a woman. He didn't ACTUALLY eat a woman! What's the big deal?

by Anonymousreply 5August 8, 2022 2:15 AM

Emile Hirsch seems to be getting work.

Armies Hammer possibly....if James Franco could get work, so can Armie.

Those not in prison are too old and most were overrated anyway.

by Anonymousreply 6August 8, 2022 2:22 AM

Possibly Thomas Gibson, Brian Williams and Gina Carano. In Gibsons case, Americans don't care that much about bullying if there's no sex element ( unless you're a certain famous blonde lesbian then you'll be cancelled for sure). The fact that Americans mostly don't give a shit about bullying is one reason this country is a violent mess but I digress...For Brian Williams he was never taken that seriously as anything other than a pretty talking head. He could stage a comeback doing some frau catnip Feel Good News type show. And for all of the fuss about Carano iirc she never actually trashed transgender individuals. She just didn't want to do the pronoun thing. For the others probably not.

by Anonymousreply 7August 8, 2022 2:23 AM

Wait, what did Emile Hirsch do?

by Anonymousreply 8August 8, 2022 2:40 AM

Jussie S. will have a future career. The right won't support him but he has fans of the left & the political middle.

After the right tried to smear him as worse than the pussy grabbing marital rapist, most indies like myself will forgive & forget.

He's a gloryhound bonehead but who isn't in Hollywood these days?

by Anonymousreply 9August 8, 2022 2:43 AM

I’ll throw in Scott Bairstow who is a singer now.

Armie Hammer was always a treat to look at.

by Anonymousreply 11August 8, 2022 2:49 AM

R11 One would say a snack.

by Anonymousreply 12August 8, 2022 2:51 AM

R9 Not sure if you have internet or not, but I searched and found his Wikipedia page

by Anonymousreply 13August 8, 2022 2:53 AM

I hope not.

by Anonymousreply 14August 8, 2022 2:56 AM

Linda Fiorentino deserved a second chance

by Anonymousreply 15August 8, 2022 2:58 AM

Arnie Hammer Yes. Juicy Smollett Fuck No.

by Anonymousreply 16August 8, 2022 3:03 AM

R13 But that’s not a cancellation type event, it’s a crime, but not necessarily something the industry as a whole would punish and block him for.

by Anonymousreply 17August 8, 2022 3:05 AM

I hope G has a comeback in her. I believe in miracles.

by Anonymousreply 18August 8, 2022 3:11 AM

Gina Carano sleazed up to Ben Shapiro and other far right types. There's no coming back to the mainstream for her, just those right wing and Christian-themed projects.

by Anonymousreply 19August 8, 2022 3:11 AM

Spacey, Smollett, Armstrong, Barr, Miller: unlikely.

Collins, Jones, Armstrong, Kelly: never.

Masterson's will depend on his trial's outcome.

Carano said anti-Semitic things online, so she might be allowed to do work so long as it is not ij front of the camera. This seems to be the situation Hollywood worked out with Mel Gibson, who also said anti-Semitic things 9and sexist things), but was still allowed to direct successful films.

if Gibson and Hammer did big Barbara Walters style interviews (or interviews with a celebrity magazine) and said, "Look, I was an asshole because I was fucked up then for various personal reasons, but I committed no crimes, and I repent that i was an asshole," they could both get work again. Maybe not at he level they once had.

Brian Williams already got work again with MCNBC after his scandal, so the answer is that he will get work again but will not be an anchor.

I'm not clear what happened with Emile Hirsch--he got shitty work after his misdemeanor trial, but he has worked steadily since then.

by Anonymousreply 20August 8, 2022 3:17 AM

Are people forgetting Brian Williams had a show on MSNBC for years and was their breaking news anchor?

by Anonymousreply 21August 8, 2022 3:18 AM

*Sorry, i meant Armstrong only in the "never" category--I mistakenly also listed him in the "unlikely" category.

by Anonymousreply 22August 8, 2022 3:18 AM

So the threads here trying to rescuscitate OJ are obviously deliberate attempts by PR trolls to work out the thrust of their arguments and line of attack which they will then attempt on the public.

Spacey has also been tentatively mentioned in a thread questioning how he can be rehabilitated.

Told you this place is nonstop PR.

by Anonymousreply 23August 8, 2022 4:28 AM

Hey, what about Brian Singer? I don't think what he did warranted cancelation, do you? I feel bad for him because he has a son to support. I hear a great dad.

The emile Hirsh thing was so bizarre. What the fuck was that about?

by Anonymousreply 26August 8, 2022 4:51 AM

[quote] The other ones committed offenses that have a moral component

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.

by Anonymousreply 27August 8, 2022 5:01 AM

"Sin" has a fairly wide spectrum r27, and yet I, along with most of those reading probably are not filled with the sins of:

1) sexually abusing children

2) pressuring supporting cast members for sex while publicly denying you're gay and befriending Ghislan Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein

3) faking your own homophobic attack while blaming your political opponents and then using the prestige of an ABC News Anchor to boost your lies

4) etc....so we'll judge them from here to eternity

by Anonymousreply 28August 8, 2022 3:28 PM

Yes, R28.

[quote] "Sin" has a fairly wide spectrum

And I consider that Word-Crime and Thought-Crime are lesser crimes than Touch-Crime and Rape-Crime.

by Anonymousreply 29August 8, 2022 11:06 PM

Well you missed the canceled Golden Gloves OP but it appears they'll be back on tv in 5 months!

by Anonymousreply 30August 10, 2022 12:32 AM

[quote] "Sin" has a fairly wide spectrum

Yes, R28 Moses had Ten Commandments and ten sins.

But the new generation of Cancel Culture Zealtos have 16 Sins which MAY NOT BE FORGIVEN!

Cole Slaw

by Anonymousreply 32August 10, 2022 1:33 AM

Armie is too fucking hot to not get more work. All will be forgiven if he shows peen and pounds Timmy long and hard in Call Me By Your Name 2: The Reckoning.

by Anonymousreply 33August 10, 2022 4:18 AM

I think Thomas Gibson has a chance at redeeming himself in part because he was never charged with any crimes.

I hope Jussie Smollett doesn't have a career comeback. He's entitled douchebag sociopath.

by Anonymousreply 34August 10, 2022 4:54 AM

I will bury myself alive before I do what you did!!!!

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 35August 10, 2022 5:51 AM

Stephen has a career? What else is he known for besides 7th Heaven?

by Anonymousreply 36August 10, 2022 1:40 PM

Now? Deservedly nothing.

Years ago though, Stephen was in a hell of a lot of films and TV shows.

by Anonymousreply 37August 10, 2022 9:45 PM

None of these are exactly heavyweight talents. Are any of them really worth trying to rehabilitate? Who’s going to hire them or back their projects? Who’s willing to work with them? Who’s the audience for their work?

by Anonymousreply 38August 10, 2022 9:59 PM

Exactly r38.

by Anonymousreply 39August 11, 2022 1:31 PM

Someone called Justin Timberlake "Jussie" on a thread recently, and I suddenly longed for the days when JT was the ONLY Jussie we knew about.

by Anonymousreply 40August 11, 2022 4:07 PM

Jeffrey Jones already had a comeback. He was cast in "Deadwood" the year after he was found guilty.

Brian Williams already had a comeback as well, but he inexplicably left MSNBC last year and hasn't been seen since.

Both seemed to be doing well during their comebacks but then the work dried up again, no idea why.

by Anonymousreply 41August 11, 2022 4:14 PM

R9 I thought you said “gloryhole” bonehead…

by Anonymousreply 42August 11, 2022 5:24 PM

May I come back yet, please?

by Anonymousreply 43August 11, 2022 5:31 PM

The truly talented ones have a shot at it. Keep your head down add do the work. Spacey is probably one of those.

by Anonymousreply 44August 11, 2022 5:33 PM

I hope Sean Young comes back. She's especially good in comedy, and now could play some great wacky moms.

by Anonymousreply 45August 11, 2022 5:47 PM

Hirsch look quite hot here.

by Anonymousreply 46August 22, 2022 10:48 AM

Nope, discard them all and bring in the fresh meat.

by Anonymousreply 47August 22, 2022 11:25 AM

Which no one will watch and then they’ll be canceled again R30.

by Anonymousreply 48August 22, 2022 12:22 PM

Spacey is nowhere near done dealing with the massive consequences of his actions, R44. He’s not coming back. Ever.

by Anonymousreply 49August 22, 2022 12:24 PM

[quote]r45 I hope Sean Young comes back.

I have a soft spot for that wacky broad. She’s only marginally talented, however, and doesn’t have the brains or wherewithal to orchestrate anything major.

Poor Sean.

by Anonymousreply 50August 22, 2022 4:55 PM

Thomas Gibson, because the world needs a Dharma & Greg reboot, and no-one else can play an upper-middle class country club Republican quite so well.

by Anonymousreply 51August 22, 2022 4:59 PM

[quote]Carano said anti-Semitic things online,

No she didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 52August 22, 2022 5:33 PM

Yes, five men suffered with imperceptible bruising on their shoulders and knees

by Anonymousreply 53August 22, 2022 8:56 PM

She did, r52, sorry. Just the fact that she posted a photo of a Jewish woman who was in the middle of being assaulted (and probably raped, since her clothes were being ripped off) by a group of Nazis, then said that being a Republican in the U.S. was to be assaulted daily just like that woman had been, is antisemitic.

by Anonymousreply 56August 23, 2022 8:27 AM

Burn the lot of them at the stake.

by Anonymousreply 57August 23, 2022 8:30 AM

Gina Carano's "anti-Semitic" sentiments are NOTHING compared to John Fitzgerald Kennedy's anti-Cuban sentiments.

"Gina Carano's "anti-Semitic" sentiments are NOTHING compared to John Fitzgerald Kennedy's anti-Cuban sentiments."
