Let's discuss Debra Winger
I ended up rewatching Terms of Endearment, because of the other thread.
As a young actress she had beautiful eyes, gorgeous hair, a great voice. She was big for awhile. I read on Wikipedia that she took a break on purpose and that she was a principal on a Netflix streamer called The Ranch for a few recent years.
Also know there are often references to how she had so many difficult relationships on sets.
What is the story?

Never got the hype. Not more beautiful or talented than the many in her age range. Like Val Kilmer, she nuked her own career through bullheaded behavior.

She was known for arriving on set, announcing she "wasn't feeling it", then leaving, and thus leaving her costars and the crew without a job for the day. People eventually stopped hiring her.
I think she is a big talent, but she definitely ruined her own career.

I liked her in An Officer and a Gentleman. After that? Not so much.

R4- I always thought Richard Gere looked too ETHNIC to have ancestors who were on the Mayflower.

She had drug and mental health issues. She alienated a lot of big stars and directors so no one wanted to work with her. In hindsight I wonder if she was really talented or just on drugs.

He's not only selfish and egomaniacal but she's also genuinely nasty and vindictive. She frequently trash-talked her fellow performers or her directors. Mental health problems do not excuse you for being a mean person.

In my mind she’s the same as Lindsay Wagner, Linda Blair, Margot Kidder and Lynda Carter.

R8 agreed. Silver lining is that few under 40 know who Debra Winger is.

She's difficult. Allegedly.

Debra Winger has been vocal about her on-set clash with Gere. In a 2009 interview with the Daily Mail, she explained that insecurity about her own acting skills was one of the reasons she sometimes lashed out on her co-stars on set. Winger admitted she "took it out on everybody," but added a disclaimer about the film she made with Gere. "It's no secret that I didn't love 'An Officer and A Gentleman' then, and I certainly don't love it now, so at least no one could accuse me of being inconsistent," she said.

God, she was sooooooo cute back in the day! I want to go up one side of her and down the other with nothing but lips and tongue. UGH!

Watching Terms of Endearment I thought she had that intangible stuff going on the equals start quality. I can't explain it or define it, she just seemed to me to pop somehow.

Leap of Faith (1992) is somewhat underrated and probably the best movie she starred in post-Terms of Endearment. 1
