Mental illness is extremely difficult. Someone like Britney didn't have a normal stable upbringing. Her mom basically made her perform nonstop as a child into her early adulthood. That enormous amount of pressure and the stress of teen stardom would take a toll. Fame is traumatic by itself. Not many people could handle it. Also Britney seemed unsupervised and didn't have proper guidance. She was exposed to drugs and alcohol at an early she. It's possible Britney may have had the generic predisposition to mental illness because of her grandmother's bipolar disorder. But the stress of stardom, drug abuse and possible sexual abuse probably triggered something extremely complex. She'll never return to normalcy. Her fans need to give that up and stop enabling her behavior.

Surely there's a compromise between a draconian conservatorship and total freedom to wreck herself. Her family kept her working and making money but she couldn't make the smallest decision for herself. Now she can do anything she wants. It's a shame to have all that money and freedom to travel, to live in luxury, to enjoy life, and all she wants to do is be an attention whore on social media.

If Sam is not genuine, he will probably end up putting similar controls on her that existed under the original conservatorship, or otherwise take control of her money and ultimately run for the hills with a good haul.

If he is genuine, he will probably have to deal with increasingly erratic behavior and have the same struggles that many families have with severely mentally ill loved ones, trying to keep her taking meds and on a somewhat stable path. But, in most cases, the sick person goes off their meds and pushes the people trying to help away, and gets much worse.

Either way, I don't really see a good ending for Britney. The conservatorship was probably the best scenario for her, as much as she didn't like it. And it was strict for a reason.

Of course, but her family never pursued that. If the family cared about her, they would have gone into the court case last year with a new plan to keep some guardianship but give her more freedom, based on the fact that she was well enough to bring in millions of dollars while working a full schedule. They would have been steadily working toward her gaining more freedom and becoming more healthy over the years, rather than doing everything they could to keep her from even having a legal advocate.

If Federline is really concerned about how she's acting around her sons, then he'd be talking to an attorney and working to improve the situation for his kids' sake, not running to some tabloid show and complaining about Britney for a payday.

Growing up black I could never imagine arguing with my mom like that in public. I'd get the worst beating of my life. If the only thing wrong with Brit is bipolar disorder, then the conservatories system was misused. Conservatories is not meant for people who are capable of making rational decisions most of the time, or who are capable of managing their mental illness - whether they choose to manage it appropriately or nor.
