Orson was no master thespian, just very good in certain flamboyant roles. Leave him alone. He got enough shit during his lifetime.

No, no, no, no.....Orson Welles was a completely underrated actor. Always believable, always in the moment, just there. Present. Right from the start with Citizen Kane. Very subtle performance. Take a look at the scene from Man For All Seasons. Again a very nuanced performance. Look at the body adjustment before he speaks. Of course, it helps if you got Paul Scofield to play off of

Imagine being the other actors.
“OMG this is insane. What do we do?”
“Shh just keep smiling! This is our big chance!”

He was probably drunk, although you can't rule out some medication. Orson had been the king of overindulgence for most of his adult life, that he was also doing some drugs is not out of the question.

He slips in a bit of an Irish brogue to amuse himself. The poor guy clasping the bottle is cute.

Why is R4 being labeled a troll? Not seeing the problem.

Orson Welles was a fucking genius. Undisciplined and sometimes unstable, but one of the greatest figures of modern drama, both stage and screen, acting and directing. He even manages to be a magnetic presence while hopelessly inebriated in a low-rent wine commercial.
He actually gave a fuck, even at his lowest ebbs.

R9 I heard that and it made me laugh. He slips into a "Me wants me Lucky Charms" voice for a second. What a gas he must have been at parties.

Look for a recording of the Voodoo Macbeth he staged during the Great Depression. It was set in Haiti and featured Black actors. It's one of the most thrilling theater performances I've ever seen.

I think this is all we have of his production of Voodoo Macbeth.
It looks incredible.
