NPH Starring in Netflix's "Uncoupled," A Show about Single Gays in Middle Age
In the first episode, his character is dumped by his longtime husband/partner, and he has to reenter the dating world at that age and with that baggage.
I predict ample jokes about "What's an app? What's NSFW? Ooops, I popped a Viagra and now my boss is coming over for dinner!"

Love the show. Love Tisha Campbell the most in this. NPH is sort of the weak link here, playing the protagonist and being a total dick, because he got dumped (DUMPED!). But I thought the scene of the doctor trying to botox his ass was hilarious (like, WTF?). The two friends are great, too.

R6
Just who do you think is largely responsible for NPH's success and constant PR? Largely fraus, that's who.
Likely good majority of gay men don't give NPH a second thought. Not even Broadway/theatre/entertainment queens get much excited about NPH in huge numbers. But fraus just love NPH's whole story.
NPH is white bread/blonde-blue eyed boy next door who happens to be an attractive gay man. Fraus have watched him on television as young Doogie Howser, grow into a out gay man who married and had children. Fraus just cannot get enough of his story and NPH in general. Only Nate Berkus likely ranks on same popularity scale with that demographic.

Guys, don't look down on Fraus as a viewership demographic. From Gays for Gays (only) entertainment is never successful. Shows that appeal to both Gays and Fraus are more likely to be successful. If you want someone to blame, blame the "just because it's gay doesn't mean I have to like and support it!" critics and haters. Their lack of support makes alternative support necessary.

I think the show is horrid...it's Dynasty with all cocks. Rich primarily white people in narcissistic angst. However, NPH is a draw on Broadway/theater and he is really quite good...He was fantastic in Assassins and Into The Woods (which basically has become a puff piece due to abhorrent direction). People keep talking about their feelings...

I'm torn over gay love scenes. On one hand, it's fine for two men to show affection. I'm as tolerant as the next person. On the other hand, in this day and age, with covid and monkey pox, the latter rampant within the homosexual lifestyle, I think it's irresponsible to show gay men being so promiscuous. I do like NPH, though. He is so cute and adorkable.

Why do people assume gay = slut? That’s so homophobic. Gay men who come out late have more psychological problems then promiscuity going on. There’s things going on with them that are much deeper.

It's basically Sex in the City, but with Gays dealing with being single , middle-aged, and, for the most part, dating so-called lemons while the main cast seem, to put it nicely, rather flawed. It even features Sex & the City type of jazz jingles.
I enjoyed the scene where they play poker with that African American eldergay, who shares a nice story about dealing with a celebrity in his profession.
It's mildly funny, frau / gay entertainment. One episode shows off gay hardcore cartoon art in an art gallery.

I like the show. It's good, not great, but I identify with the storyline. My story is a bit different. I broke up with my ex after 13 years when I was in my mid-30s, not fortysomething like NPH's character. Having been coupled up since my early 20s, and not much experience before that, suddenly I was single. This was the early 2000s, so pre-apps. I had to navigate going back to the bars, online dating sites, the hookup culture, etc. It was a big adjustment.
I was into guys my age or older, but the majority of them were pining for younger men. Dating again reminded me how many wounded birds there were in our community. Getting hit on by younger men was flattering until I started to talk to them. There was such a wide gap in life experience I just felt nothing in common with them and always passed. Well, except that one time . . .
At least for me, sex is always better when I at least care about someone, but it's great when I'm in love. Hooking up every now and then always left me feeling like something was missing. I had a few guys I dated for a few months. After about nine years, I finally met my partner and we're getting married later this year.
The show is very Sex-and-the-City-esque. I like the actors who play his two best friends. There are a lot of scenes where I just think, yeah, I remember going through something similar. I assume at least one of the writers of the show is pulling from personal experience.

R25, the popularity of Heartstopper isn’t because of how much sex they have. It’s because the characters are charming and it’s all very sweet.

R27 It's "sweet", yet the teenagers aren't allowed to have sex. They are asexual. Just as always on tv. It's offensive and homophobic. Gay male characters on tv are not allowed to have sex, especially in America. I know it's different in foreign countries. Thank god for shows like Elite where the gays are treated the same as the straights when it comes to sex. Oh, and btw, it is possible to make the gays have sex and still do it right, sweet as you said. Elite is an excellent example. The gay sex scene was excellent, the nerves of the first time, the "messing up", the guidance from the more experienced guy yet they had chemistry and passion. Very well done.

I’m not a fan of his but I took a chance on the show and I liked it overall. I like Sex and the City and I’m an urban elder gay so I’m the target audience. I did get distracted by the poor-man’s Nathan Lane but he’s much better than Jai from Queer Eye. And there is no way that NPH’s cock looks like the one in the pic flashed onscreen—we’re not that stupid.
I hope that the show gets a second season.

Why is it offensive and homophobic? It's just entertainment. Not all entertainment is aimed at you and your likes and dislikes.
Lifetime and Hallmark don't show straight romantic relationships in a sexual way, either. Are they offensive and heterophobic because of that?
Some people like so-called wholesome entertainment. Some may call it family friendly entertainment, some age appropriate entertainment.
There are plenty of options for wholesome entertainment like Heartstopper, as there are plenty of options for more mature and edgier entertainment like Elite or HBO's Euphoria.

LGBT content on streaming services is generally unwatchable but I thought this was pretty good. Not crazy about NPH but still enjoying the show. Maybe his character annoys me because I’ve known so many men who are just like him. Understandable that his partner left him but confused as to why he stuck around for 17 years. Andre deShields is lovely as the neighbor. Stephanie Faracy as the mom should get an award for aging naturally and GASP having wrinkles! And I love anything filmed in nyc and happy they made it a maskless nyc. I just watched the series then, due to a mate of mine telling me just to give it a go. I wasn't going to, because all I had seen on here was people complaining about it.
I thought it was fine! I laughed quite a bit. This isn't my type of show normally, I will be honest, but I just went along with it like the other current Darren Star show, Emily in Paris, and I had a fun time. I enjoyed the characters, particularly Suzanne. I am actually surprised in some ways that more DL-ers didn't like it just because it was a bit more "we can make jokes about everyone" in style rather than trying to be too "unproblematic". And without getting bitter and "kids these days" about it either. They made fun of nonbinary people for heaven's sakes, I thought that would be catnip here, haha. It made fun but wasn't judgy about age-gap relationships or anything like that either. I find this less lecturing comedy easier to take.
The only characters I weren't so keen on were the two Jonathons whom I found to be a bit insufferable, but that's probably just because I could imagine being at an event and chatting to all the other characters, but those two came across like those gay men you meet at a dinner party who won't talk to you because they don't know you, and then after you've met them seven times they still don't remember you, haha.
I dunno, it was gentle and sweet, and I thought the scene of NPH with the bisexual Italian was actually pretty hot, especially when he's helping NPH get hard for a dick pic. I'm 41, so I guess in the same age bracket as his character and single too, so it was interesting to watch from that perspective for me. Haha, and like Michael, I would also greet "we don't need to use condoms" with "what about chlamydia? herpes? warts?" like he did.
It's not that I don't have some criticisms (storylines for the two gay mates came too late in the season and if it doesn't get picked up for a second season then it feels way too rushed, NPH picks up a different hot guy every episode while complaining his ex is the one moving on), but I'm honestly not fussed. Fluff can be good sometimes. I do totally respect others in their opinions they don't like it, but I guess I just was much more pleasantly surprised than expected.
