Do you regret your purchase? Musk is such a disgusting creature.
Tesla owners

These days, your average Tesla consumer buys it BECAUSE of Musk, not in spite of him.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 1, 2022 3:00 PM |
Henry Ford was an anti-Semitic bigot but people still buy Fords. VW used forced labor yet people still buy them. Coco Chanel was a Nazi collaborator, yet people still buy Chanel. Etc...
I don't care about Elon Musk, I neither praise nor hate him. I don't own a Tesla, though I would like to have one because I find the product interesting, not the man. I preferred it when most companies were led by people no one knew and we had no ideas about their political and philosophical opinions.

I flip people off if they are driving a Tesla. They are lousy cars too
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 1, 2022 3:01 PM |
Yes, he's an asshole. He's also pulled off a manufacturing miracle in not just breaking into, but greatly disrupting the car industry. He did this by hiring brilliant engineers and pouring tons of cash into what he calls 'building the machine that makes the machines." He deserves credit for this. Too bad he's so damaged.

R4 What machine? What disruption?
They were making electric cars long before this idjit bought an EV company and made it bigger. They were transitioning the industry toward EVs without his help. And his engineers can't be too brilliant, given all the safety mishaps Teslas have. You never hear about a GM or Toyota locking people inside when the car catches fire.
He is a creation of our bankrupt media machine. He's not a genius, but merely a salesman. And the media, who no longer know the difference, treat the latter as the former.

Bullshit, R5.

I bought a Model Y in November. For the most part, it's a good car. I'll probably be in the market for a new vehicle in five or six years; by then, the other automakers will have more EVs in production, giving Tesla some serious competition.
The Cadillac Lyriq looks great, as does the Rivian R1T and the R1S. I can see myself being happy with any of them.
As for Elon, he's an asshole. I don't pay any attention to him.

Here's the thing nobody really talks about with EVS: the batteries need to be replaced eventually. I have a Honda Accord Hybrid and the battery is shot so the little amt I drive is running on the 12 volt at the moment. It would cost up to 5k to replace this battery, which I'm not doing.
I looked up Tesla battery replacement and it claims you won't need to replace it for at least 21-35 years which I absolutely don't believe. I've already seen a thread or 2 where the owners say they've had their Model 3 for 3 years have had their battery degrade at around 11% per year.
So, nope. I'm not going the EV way yet. Once bitten, twice shy, I'll wait until more EVs are in production and prices come down. Plus I can't afford it.

r9 here: it would cost around $5k to replace the HYBRID battery, not the 12 volt (I priced it out extensively). I have already replaced the 12 volt twice now.

Musk really is a fucking creep with fucked up ideas on many topics.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 1, 2022 3:37 PM |
R2 that was THEN this is NOW. A lot more people shared their views back then.

"He's also pulled off a manufacturing miracle in not just breaking into, but greatly disrupting the car industry. "
Yeah, but he didn't figure out the most important part of all that - scaling up. Ford and GM are unleashing their EVs and they have the infrastructure to mass produce and sell A LOT more and basically kick Tesla from its perch. Which is exactly what is going to happen.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 1, 2022 6:22 PM |
R13, seriously? Have you missed that Tesla has built 3 massive manufacturing facilities included battery manufacturing around the world in the past couple of years? They're far better positioned to meet EV demand than any competitor. By a mile.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 1, 2022 6:31 PM |
Tesla is too try-hard.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 1, 2022 6:51 PM |
R2, Henry Ford is long gone. No I would never by one of Musk’s cars, never.

Tesla's Fremont plant has a signifcantly higher worker injury rate than other domestic car manufacturers. Is it any wonder? Shifts are 12 hours and some workers have gone upwards of 6 weeks without a day's break. Demand is high and they can't keep up so the work force gets screwed. I assume that two shifts instead of three is to save having to pay a third set of benefits.
And then there are accusations of systematic racism at the plant leading to multiple lawsuits with the state's Dept of Fair Employment and Housing.

I put a deposit down on an Ionic 5, but now...I'm thinking of putting down a deposit on the Chevy Equinox EV. The Ioniq is a rear wheel drive and we can get a lot of snow where I live. I refuse to pay the $10, 000 upgrade needed to get the AWD version of the vehicle.
The Equinox is front wheel drive with available AWD. Also, Hyundai seems to be grappling with some faulty chips which may further delay production. Also, Chevy is currently offering an eight year warranty on their batteries PLUS they'll install equipment needed for a Level 2 charger. Pretty hard to beat.
Here's a pic. It's nothing too special looking, but it's still an attractive enough car.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 6, 2022 3:52 PM |
Sorry, that should be Ioniq, not Ionic.
Anyway, no I wouldn't buy a Tesla. I'm doing a lot of home renos and Teslas and I'm not paying a crazy price for one. $50/55 K is my upper limit. Also, I don't like Musk.

Recently purchased new homeowner's insurance, and when I told the agent I had solar he immediately asked if I had a battery and said they wouldn't touch me, particularly if it was a Tesla battery wall "because they explode and burn the house down." I asked if it would make a difference if I had a Tesla car, and he hesitated and asked if I drove one; I do not, but his response was telling.

I have a 10-year warranty on my battery (it's a Hyundai Kona Electric).

Amusing how R2 rattles off several examples of business tycoons whose political and philosophical opinions were widely known (and praised), and then says he preferred it when we didn't know business tycoons' opinions. Hmm...
Republicans liked it when business people supported them exclusively, but now that we have what they call "woke capitalism", it's a problem. Funny how hypocrisy and Republicanism are pretty much interchangeable.
Remember when they bleated that what we really needed was a president who was a businessman? Well, we finally got one, and he pretty much upset the world order that has kept the United States and our allies safe for 75 years, wrought economic devastation by ignoring the reality that communicable disease was a threat, and treated the election more like a hostile takeover than representative democracy.
Elon Musk is a big fat turd who got lucky. That's it.
