Ursula was inspired by the drag queen Divine and Divine was supposed to play her but he died before the production. Pat essentially was doing an impression of him and it worked wonderfully. She captured the campiness and sense of humor and using that deep voice kept the drag queen vibe.

She was also Mary Richards’ cranky hospital roomie and Shirley Feeney’s mom. She was also fantastic on a couple of episodes of The Carol Burnett Show in As The Stomach Turns sketches. She was a delightful actress.

I once chatted with one of her daughters some years ago and she said that her mom was a moderate Republican and was pro-gay.
As the article above says, she was a Republican as of the early 1990's when that interview took place, but who knows what she thought of the party during the Trump years.
