Lainey Gossip and Omid Scobie are some of the last major hangers on for Meghan and Harry. The Sussex Brand is in free fall in both the US and UK now. Even Penguin is allegedly nervous that Harry's book won't do as well in terms of sales as initially planned particularly against Michelle Obama's new book coming out around the same time. The only people who really are still fanatical in their support for H&M are people who believe social media is equivalent to real world opinion.

Honestly the best place for hot tea is usually the comments section on Instagram but who has the time or energy to dig through them?

If you share some real hot tea on social media, you get an angry mob of fantards and PR shills on your ass and get canceled. Goes double when you are an actual industry insider, and you get fired for sharing on social media.

I imagine there is some super secret message group in the dark web where insiders can gossip without getting caught. Like, secret society type of secret. Same goes with real hot gay celebrity sex tape and sexting image sharing. Super secret stuff barely anybody has access to.

I used to read Lainey a lot (circa 2008 going forward to about mid-2010s when I stopped checking in as much). I even bought one of her books (the 'Squawking Chicken" one about her mother) and went to one of her engagements when she came to L.A. I think a lot has changed since. She got the co-hosting gig on The Social (national talk show in Canada). I think she also became more "connected" to celebrities (as someone here already pointed out, whether due to that and/or political correctness, she stopped being as critical of celebrities and dropped monikers like "Granny Freeze" for Nicole Kidman). At one point, she even refused to acknowledge Kim Kardashian by name because she was of lower celebrity "caste," before she eventually gave in (maybe around the time Kardashian produced the receipts against Taylor Swift). But, then, the celebrity landscape has changed and it isn't as movie-star based and doesn't seem as interesting and mysterious. And, I've changed as well (I'm not as into celebrity shit).

It seems that the old-school Lainey Gossip couldn't last. Just the same, all of those blogs which support each other (at least, Dlisted) have been on a similar trajectory. They all had to hire a staff of writers to keep up the output that were never going to be good as the OG who started it. But, the OGs were getting tapped out just the same. Even Michael K DListed isn't the same when he writes. I don't think it's necessarily PC with him. I just think the landscape has changed. The same kind of humour just isn't as accessible? I really think we all have changed. Maybe I'm wrong.

Lainey had to move on and reinvent herself as well. She is more successful and good for her, but the blog was really good and fun for a while.
