What are the real issues in Deploraville?

Surely it’s not CRT. They are mostly homeschooled except for the guy who owns the town’s car lot who puts his kid in private school one town over.

It’s not lgbt issues. Gays are not taking over small towns and painting them rainbow colors.

It’s not immigration, if anything, those towns are desperate for immigrants. They need the labor.

So what is is? What are the real, genuine kitchen table issues in deploraville?

by Anonymousreply 251August 14, 2022 12:06 AM

All the red state legislatures are rushing to pass overnight abortion bills.

Is that really the biggest problem in small towns and rural areas? Too many abortions?

I don’t think so.

by Anonymousreply 1July 26, 2022 9:29 PM

But these legislatures prove that they can change the laws in one day with a stroke of the pen if they want to. They could make life better for everyone in one day. A single day.

Why don’t they help these poor people???

Let’s talk about the issues that really need to be addressed.

by Anonymousreply 2July 26, 2022 9:30 PM

For one, the Chinese have run amok buying up huge tracks of rural land.

Florida is a current hotspot.

Why don’t deplorables get mad at that? The DeSantis administration openly courts foreign investors. Isn’t that a problem. Doesn’t that clash with deplorables wants/needs/goals?

by Anonymousreply 3July 26, 2022 9:31 PM

Fuck off, op. You’re not holier than thou because you’re gay in the city. Dumb fuck.

by Anonymousreply 4July 26, 2022 9:32 PM

by Anonymousreply 5July 26, 2022 9:32 PM

There issues are the same as everywhere--jobs, pay, healthcare.

by Anonymousreply 6July 26, 2022 9:32 PM

"Don't take my guns"

"We want the church to run the country"

"Keep women and minorities and LGBTQ oppressed/under our thumb"

"We want more babies to make more poor, undereducated masses and that will be future military"

by Anonymousreply 7July 26, 2022 9:33 PM

How about insulin?

They practically all have diabetes. Entire families with it. Whole deplorable towns with a 65% diabetes rate.

They vote and support candidates that make laws in favor of pharmaceutical companies. Isn’t that a problem with deplorables?

How do they reconcile that? They extra money they spend?

by Anonymousreply 8July 26, 2022 9:33 PM

What about healthcare writ large. Republicans are helping the hospitals consolidate and reduce services and increase wait times and accidents and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Did you know that the super staph infections that we have now were largely created by investor owned hospitals watering down their cleaning solutions? To save a few cents?

When you have republicans who run cover for these systems and owners, doesn’t that conflict with deplroable’s desire for locally owned and operated hospital systems and doctor clinics?

by Anonymousreply 9July 26, 2022 9:36 PM

Fuck your condescending post r9

by Anonymousreply 10July 26, 2022 9:37 PM

What about the affordable care act? That gives millions of people who make too much for Medicaid but too little to qualify for insurance life saving options.

Isn’t that a good thing? Republicans are still seeking to repeal it.

by Anonymousreply 11July 26, 2022 9:37 PM

Many deplorables enjoy recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, or even like to drink the well water from their property.

All poisoned by filthy corporations and their Republican enablers. It’s a disgrace.

Deplorables are on the front lines of toxic chemical run-off and see first hand the effects of environmental pollution. They taste it. They smell it.

So tell me, why vote for the Republican enablers of this system?

by Anonymousreply 12July 26, 2022 9:40 PM

There are a truckload of legitimate issues out there in dire need of addressing. Unfortunately the voters only care about one thing: owning the libs.

by Anonymousreply 13July 26, 2022 9:41 PM

Americans are so arrogant and spoiled.

You have no idea how bad it can actually get. None.

by Anonymousreply 14July 26, 2022 9:44 PM

Can I take the microphone for a minute?

by Anonymousreply 15July 26, 2022 9:44 PM

How about all the off-shoring that has devidtsted these towns? Why don’t they protest for better jobs? Less pollution?

Dressing up in Republican regalia is fighting for the wrong team. They need to fight for their communities in a constructive way by isolating the real issues from these stupid memes and distractions.

by Anonymousreply 16July 26, 2022 9:44 PM

What about the Us postal system that affects them the most?

It’s gone down the shi****.

This was intentionally done by republicans.

by Anonymousreply 17July 26, 2022 9:45 PM

What about Medicaid?

These deplorables work in the coal mines their whole life and republicans want to deny them the right to their own public insurance.

It’s inexcusable.

by Anonymousreply 18July 26, 2022 9:46 PM

hate troll

by Anonymousreply 19July 26, 2022 9:47 PM

They talk about “America First” but when was the last Republican to really do something about offshoring instead of profiting from it.

They talk the talk and then do the opposite.

Why would deplorables continue to vote against themselves time and time again?

by Anonymousreply 20July 26, 2022 9:47 PM

Another thread where one person is talking to themselves.

by Anonymousreply 21July 26, 2022 9:48 PM

Medicare?

Republicans want to cut it and let all the elder deplorables die off. Why would they support that? They paid into, presumably, in their working years.

by Anonymousreply 22July 26, 2022 9:48 PM

There are deplorables in blue states as well.

by Anonymousreply 23July 26, 2022 9:49 PM

What about the Republican tax hike of 2018?

by Anonymousreply 24July 26, 2022 9:49 PM

What about the way the intentionally spread Covid and killed off all those deplorables. 1 in 300 people died. It was close to a million people that died. Is that not enough?

by Anonymousreply 25July 26, 2022 9:50 PM

I could care less about deplorables & what happens to them. Every time they vote it's to hurt other people they hate for no reason. Fuck every single last one if them.

by Anonymousreply 26July 26, 2022 9:51 PM

OP - As if you genuinely cared. Calling your opposition "Deploraville" shows just how small and closed-minded you are. Did you create this thread about of the sheer boredom that is your existence, and so that your 5-6 sock puppets can talk to each other? Bitch, please. Get a life.

by Anonymousreply 27July 26, 2022 9:51 PM

I would love to know what the genuine kitchen table issues are under all that grievance and aggression.

by Anonymousreply 28July 26, 2022 9:51 PM

Lack of jobs Lack of community services Declining quality of life

by Anonymousreply 29July 26, 2022 9:51 PM

They need hate to feel good about themselves at all times so they need someone to attack because in their minds they are good and they are fighting evil. Ultimately it comes down to a warped view of reality that's been twisted to make their existence tolerable. Constantly being threatened by easily explained things doesn't help their mental health, its a big reason why they hate science so much, it explains a lot of mysteries to them they they wish could still be attributed to the mysterious way of Jesus and God.

They are simple creatures being ruled by primal instincts from our past, just a bunch of chimps with guns and too much Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 30July 26, 2022 9:52 PM

In my neighborhood?

1) They better not take my guns away.

2) Why can't I get on disability? Why isn't my SSI payment higher?

3) The doctor won't give me oxy anymore -- so now I have to get a medical marijuana card. That shit's expensive!

4) Where's my lawsuit money from when that guy rear-ended me? It's taking forever to get it, and I already spent the money.

5) They want me to get a covid shot -- and I know the government's gonna put a chip in me that tracks where I go. I won't get one!

6) I don't know whether I like Trump or DeSantis better.

by Anonymousreply 31July 26, 2022 9:52 PM

These people are ruining the country and ruining your way of life. Hey are taking your freedoms and just getting started so it would be wise to know what exactly their problem is.

by Anonymousreply 32July 26, 2022 9:52 PM

Oh -- and I forgot the high cost of gas for my 8-cylinder 4x4 jacked-up truck and the high cost of junk food and booze at the convenience store.

by Anonymousreply 33July 26, 2022 9:54 PM

As if anyone in this thread actually spoke to, let alone had a real conversation with, an actual MAGA person. This thread is just masturbatory projections and vitriol.

by Anonymousreply 34July 26, 2022 9:56 PM

R7, republicans sent all the jobs to China and are trying to kill healthcare as we speak.

They raised taxes on those paychecks that are already small because of Republican efforts to stop wage increases through blocking minimum wage bills, off shoring, union busting, and adopting a false rhetoric that people should serve their corporate masters unquestionably or be labeled a communist and outcasted.

by Anonymousreply 35July 26, 2022 9:57 PM

Their issues are the dirty environment, oppressive state legislatures, an attack on democratic values and unregulated corporate captivity.

They just don’t seem to know that. Those are the real threats to deplroables.

by Anonymousreply 36July 26, 2022 9:59 PM

Maw and paw don’t own the trailer park anymore.

Either the Chinese or some shady LLc in another state owns it now.

“All the flower beds are dead and the rents doubled but I’m going to vote for the same crooked Republican who helped the Chinese close the deal anyway.”

It’s just crazy.

by Anonymousreply 37July 26, 2022 10:01 PM

R13, what are those issues though?

Can you name two or three?

by Anonymousreply 38July 26, 2022 10:02 PM
So what is is? What are the real, genuine kitchen table issues in deploraville?

They are having the exact same issues that working class black and brown people are having, but because they're white, they don't want to be lumped in with working class black and brown people. Instead, they throw in with wealthy white people, hoping for some trickle down that's never gonna come. Because wealthy white people, wealthy people in general, don't give two shits about them. They throw their votes away on people who don't have their backs because of identity politics.

by Anonymousreply 39July 26, 2022 10:03 PM

R29, ok I accept that but which of the two parties have been overwhelmingly responsible for that?

Republicans. So why do they vote for them. They don’t have to. There is no law that says they can’t nominate better candidates with real, genuine issues.

by Anonymousreply 40July 26, 2022 10:04 PM

I just think this propaganda bubble can be popped at just the right time.

Take a look around Deploraville. It’s as bad as ever. It was bad 20 years ago and now it’s just a wasteland.

They need some self intervention. And reinvention. Leave the gun happy, mass shootings and white supremacy terrorism behind and rejoin society.

Where is the American spirit anymore?

by Anonymousreply 41July 26, 2022 10:06 PM

These people are crazy.

Give these people a job.

Bring back manufacturing. Bring back the American way.

by Anonymousreply 44July 26, 2022 10:15 PM

The real issues in MAGA country are massive stupidity, selfishness, fear and greed, multiplied by brainwashing for decades by Rush Limbaugh and FOX News.

by Anonymousreply 45July 26, 2022 10:15 PM

Those are the conditions but not the underlying issues per se.

by Anonymousreply 46July 26, 2022 10:16 PM

Most people don’t know this. It’s very interesting.

Groups like American for prosperity (gag!) and freedomworks are much more effective that Fox News.

Fox gets them rattled but the groups get them to the polls.

They knock on hundreds of thousands of sorts every year and do push jobs right there on the spot. They go right into it and scare these people into voting right in their homes. Letting them know that they know where they live.

For any that are not showing full allegiance, they are intimidated and subtly threatened into voting.

by Anonymousreply 47July 26, 2022 10:20 PM

They are ruining once great parts of this country. A turn around is in order.

When one’s states the question with the tact of Hillary Clinton. One should expect results like these.

by Anonymousreply 51July 26, 2022 10:26 PM

I think democrats in rural areas need to amplify these real issues and recruit support. Tune out the social issues and focus on real life.

by Anonymousreply 52July 26, 2022 10:34 PM

It’s misdirected anger and hypersensitivity.

Working class whites were promised an American dream as kids-that they could have an upper middle class lifestyle without a college degree or working in a trade after years of training.

This dream was sold down the river, by Reagan, Subsequent Republican administrations and the Clinton-backed NAFTA.

Instead of directing this anger at the GOP, they point blame at Democrats.

Why is that? Democratic messaging and white fragility. Democrats tend to come across as condescending, vinegary schoolmarms, lecturing them on society’s ills and the solutions to these problems.

But these people don’t want to be told they’re part of the problem, they already feel like they’ve been conned and ripped off because those high paying blue collar jobs are nonexistent.

The Democrats don’t seem to grasp that white fragility is very real. These people don’t think their racist and they don’t really think about race unless they’re confronted with it

So when the Democrats allow messaging like “defund the police” to gather steam, they don’t seem to understand that working class whites hear that phrase and get angry, as they feel cheated by the system and don’t feel their whiteness has given them a leg up in life.

The reason Reagan and Trump succeeded with working class whites is both of them promised these folks that they would restore the American dream, and that THEY aren’t the problem, but these pushy big mouth liberals, who make every thing a racial issue, were a problem. They promised them a life where they would make good money coal mining and building things. They don’t want to be forced to drive an electric car, or reduce meat consumption, or allow for affirmative action.

Essentially, these idiots are thin skinned, delusional babies. Unfortunately, they hold the country’s future in their hands. Democrats must find a way to relate to them without making them feel bad or we are all fucked.

by Anonymousreply 53July 26, 2022 10:35 PM

here is wage growth under trump. As you can see, after the Obama momentum wore off, labor rates nosedived during trumps presidency and didn’t rebound until the Biden admin was in full swing.

Republicans are terrible for jobs, wages and employment.

That needs to be considered at the polls.
What are the real issues in Deploraville?

You mean, what are the real issues outside of the bubble.

Inflation (including gas prices) is so overwhelmingly number one, everything else pales in comparison. However, the other issues would be school related issues (including “CRT”, trans, and exposing very young children to sexuality discussions), illegal immigration, Covid and general cultural concerns. Abortion would be an issue to people on the extreme end of both sides of the spectrum, so that’s harder to gauge. What are the real issues inside the bubble?

by Anonymousreply 58July 26, 2022 10:51 PM

Price gouging stops were voted down by republicans.

by Anonymousreply 59July 26, 2022 10:52 PM

I’m sorry but trans is just not a real issue in rural America or small towns. It’s purely ginned up nonsense.

What are the authentic issues? Not the ones on Fox?

by Anonymousreply 60July 26, 2022 10:53 PM

Why is someone else’s abortion more important than a job to raise your family on and health insurance for your diabetic kids?

It’s not.

by Anonymousreply 61July 26, 2022 10:54 PM

Deplorables have big problems they need to solve and worrying about what someone else is doing cross town with their body is not a priority.

They need to focus on the blight and neglect that has ravaged rural America. What is their plan for that? What ever happened to bootstraps and personal responsibility?

Have we thrown that out of the window?

by Anonymousreply 62July 26, 2022 10:55 PM

Don’t they want the opportunity to go to the dentist? And to see a doctor when sick?

by Anonymousreply 63July 26, 2022 10:56 PM

Enough with these ginned up fake social issues.

Focus on the real problems and offer real solutions.

Deplorables can do better than another gimmick job from republicans.

by Anonymousreply 64July 26, 2022 10:57 PM
Inflation (including gas prices) is so overwhelmingly number one

If this were the case, there would be widespread rejoicing as the price of gas has fallen by over a dollar a gallon in the last month. The national average is now $4.54 a gallon, and the price is going to continue to fall. But that doesn't fit with the MAGA hate message, so no one is talking about it (including the Democrats).

by Anonymousreply 65July 26, 2022 10:59 PM

Tell us why you’re really upset. It’s not Nancy Pelosi, is it.

by Anonymousreply 66July 26, 2022 11:14 PM
If this were the case, there would be widespread rejoicing as the price of gas has fallen by over a dollar a gallon in the last month. The national average is now $4.54 a gallon

Is that the thinking inside the bubble, that people who can’t afford to pay $4.54 a gallon and make ends meet should be incredibly grateful that the price is not even higher?

by Anonymousreply 67July 26, 2022 11:18 PM

It was already plainly established at the Op that CRT is not a genuine issue.

by Anonymousreply 68July 26, 2022 11:18 PM

Deplorables are not paying 4.50 a gallon.

They are paying 3.50 a gallon right now and below.

Again, the blame lies with the republicans here. so why do they vote for them if they don’t like $3.50 gas?

by Anonymousreply 69July 26, 2022 11:20 PM
It was already plainly established at the Op that CRT is not a genuine issue.

Except, of course, with the voters who will decide elections, as in Virginia.

by Anonymousreply 70July 26, 2022 11:21 PM

Gas prices are set locally and if the local Republican AGs are not prosecuting price gouging and the Republican assemblies are not putting pressure on gas companies to lower prices and if the republicans in Washington don’t approve every oil merger then this what you get.

And then the Republican offshoring efforts and enabling cleared out all the jobs so wages just aren’t there to combat higher prices.

Blame republicans and get rid of them for good. Kick them out of office. They have failed deploraville.

by Anonymousreply 71July 26, 2022 11:22 PM

R70 that’s not the topic of this thread. This is GENUINE ISSUES.

You can post that crap in any other thread.

by Anonymousreply 72July 26, 2022 11:23 PM

Take it up with your local rethug crooks. They are they ones who have ruined rural America. Not the democrats.

Take a look around.

by Anonymousreply 73July 26, 2022 11:24 PM

Put it this way:

What are the rural voter issues that are not talked about on Fox News?

Well?

by Anonymousreply 74July 26, 2022 11:26 PM

Do people really want to know what the issues are outside the bubble, or are they just looking for some kind of affirmation that the real issues that concern the people living outside the bubble are not in fact their true issues? It seems like the latter, but come Election Day, don’t act surprised (like in 2016).

by Anonymousreply 75July 26, 2022 11:37 PM

Exactly, R69; the reason that the national average is $4.54 is because the price of gas is higher in cities and some states (like California) pay a much higher cost while the price in most rural areas is and has been below the national average — by a wide margin — all along. To listen to R67, you'd think people in rural America have been paying the highest prices. They have not. In fact, the price of gas in rural America is subsidized by those who live in cities and populous states, just as rural America has been subsidized in every conceivable way, for decades if not longer. If rural America payed the actual cost of everything they enjoy, it would be out-of-reach.

Those in rural areas think they deserve a break simply because they have been given a break since, well, forever. Almost like [italic]they[/italic] live in a bubble.

I know my QAnoner, batshit uncle doesn't speak for all the MAGAts but I'm sure a lot of them are marinating in their own self created victimhood.

Others, who are reachable (unlike my conspiracy theorist uncle, who is now beyond hope), need to be assured that they can be an integral part of our society ALONGSIDE everyone else.

It can be done. It's hard work but our country and our democracy is worth it.

by Anonymousreply 81July 27, 2022 12:24 AM

r81 Sounds like extremism likely runs in the family. Just sayin.'

Anyway...

Keep in mind, that a large number of Trump supporters voted for Obama. Twice.

They're mostly broke, rural, working-class people who just want to make a decent living and take care of their families. That used to be the group Democrats were supposed to represent. Now, they, too, have become elitist, out-of-touch, corporate puppets, who campaign on completely tone-deaf policies that relate very little or at all to their constituents.

America, indeed, is doomed.

The only real issue for MAGAt/Deplorables is: they believe they are entitled to America and that others are trying to take America from them. Ultimately it's territorialism. In some cases those people believe they actually are America.

by Anonymousreply 87July 27, 2022 7:01 PM

Anybody know the rural issues that they are genuinely facing?

by Anonymousreply 88July 27, 2022 7:36 PM
by Anonymousreply 89July 27, 2022 8:34 PM

I already told you, R88 -- and believe me, most of you gentlemen couldn't survive a week in my neighborhood in Marion County, FL. There's a reason I call it Deplorable Haven!

Meth and heroin are a way of life here. Very few people actually work, and many who do work under the table so they don't lose their government disability benefits (to which they feel entitled). Most people smoke pot every day (some have a medical card), and many do have prescriptions for oxy for one reason or another. My neighbor across the street is on disability because he's too fat to walk. My neighbor three trailers up (who's functionally illiterate) is on worker's comp because he fell out of the work trailer on the job and hurt his foot. That's been going on for three months although they've been unable to find anything wrong with him. Another guy has a $600 medical disability from the Army (high blood pressure) but he's drunk every day before noon and refuses to work even though he owns almost literally nothing. Many here have lost their driver's licenses due to drunk driving charges, but they usually drive some beat-up old gas-guzzler truck anyway. People here are so broke that if you put an old, beat-up pair of sneakers by the side of the road, you'll see someone wearing them tomorrow. There are a couple of people who are legitimately retired (of which I am one), and a handful of guys who have their own small businesses like repairing lawnmowers. But mostly they're bums and junkies. BTW, they're all white, have "Fuck Biden" flags and bumper stickers, and love Trump and "hate the libs."

And there's not enough money in the world to change these attitudes and behaviors.

Back in the day, folks like this didn't vote ("All politicians are crooks!"). But Trump energized them and even the felons who have paid their fines show up at the polls to vote Republican.

Hope that helps. (I know -- get a blog).

by Anonymousreply 90July 27, 2022 8:59 PM

Thank you r90. those are genuine issues.

And if they want systematic improvements, better jobs and opportunities, county-ran mental health and addictions services then they are going to have to vote for democrats. It’s the only way. Even if they pinch their noses while they do it.

by Anonymousreply 91July 27, 2022 11:27 PM

I think we are getting somewhere. I see progress even within this thread.

There is a way to lead these people to better times. In spite of themselves.

by Anonymousreply 92July 27, 2022 11:29 PM

R90 have your explained to them that republicans want to take away their disability and the reason it’s so low is because of republicans.

Putting those stickers on their car is counter productive to what they desire.

by Anonymousreply 93July 27, 2022 11:33 PM

I’d like to know how they account for that.
There are deplorables in blue states as well.

by Anonymousreply 95July 27, 2022 11:46 PM

It’s sad sad to see what’s happened to these people.

Many of them used to be democrats.

They were on their last leg when trump and the republicans conned them into one last hope.

And then to find out that was just one more scam, I don’t know how on hearth we get them back but we should try.

by Anonymousreply 96July 27, 2022 11:49 PM

If they could see the facts for themselves then nobody would have to convince them.

The only way we are going to get back to being a functional country is with more democrats in charge.

Deplorables can’t see that it’s their own country governments, their own state reps and DC reps are all screwing them over. Lying to them constantly. Taking their money. Ripping off veterans. There is no low too low for republicans.

The rural people need to see that. They need to open their damn eyes.

by Anonymousreply 99July 27, 2022 11:52 PM

It’s just so frustrating to watch these people shoot themselves in the foot every two years.

It’s infuriating.

by Anonymousreply 100July 27, 2022 11:53 PM

R98...Isnt it adorable how you think electing more Democrats will save us...THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ARE 2 SIDES OF THE SAME COIN.

by Anonymousreply 101July 27, 2022 11:56 PM

It’s all the same, both parties are identical!

by Anonymousreply 102July 27, 2022 11:58 PM

No they are not the same and if you want some kind of normalcy and to bring back jobs and basic services and push back on the corporate hijinx then you’re going to have to vote for local democrats.

Dems are far from perfect, but they are they only way to get things back on track in rural and blighted areas that have been picked clean by the same local GOP networks that have been at it for eternity.

Time for a change in “red states” and for them stop being last in every measurement.

by Anonymousreply 103July 28, 2022 12:05 AM

An issue for rural dwellers is the lack of medical care and lack of hospitals nearby.

by Anonymousreply 104July 28, 2022 12:09 AM

Good on r104. Thank you. And guess who has been closing down these suckers after they bleed them dry? The hedge funds that bought them in the last 5 years.

So they don’t compete with their hedge fund owned hospital systems and also because they sell the rural hospitals for real estate and scraps.

This is a Republican racket carried out by many red state legislatures and local reps.

So if you want change in rural areas you are going to need to vote, support and promote democratic candidates and stick to the real issues.

by Anonymousreply 105July 28, 2022 12:13 AM

I have a deplorable relative from Apple Valley (aka the Kentucky of California). He's pushing 50, had never voted before, but registered to vote for Donny ShitPants. Now he posts illiterate rants on Facebook, claiming to be a political scholar and understanding all the issues.

by Anonymousreply 106July 28, 2022 12:16 AM

You can trace back every single rural problem to a filthy Republican. Every time.

by Anonymousreply 107July 28, 2022 12:17 AM

Who let the pharmaceutical companies get all these people addicted to Oxys?

The republicans and their quest to eliminate all FDA regulations and any accountability for their actions.

by Anonymousreply 108July 28, 2022 12:18 AM

Rural pollution and toxic leeching is not an accident.

Closing down rural clinics is not by mistake.

The wholesale sell-off of factories and farms to international interests and the offshoring of millions of Americans jobs was not and inevitable outcome.

The addiction of millions to opioids was not an oversight.

Republicans are not going to help you but they will help these corporations ruin the entire country to make a buck.

by Anonymousreply 109July 28, 2022 12:20 AM

R93, I have gently voiced a concern or two, but as those of you with deplorable family members already know, they refuse to listen. You must know Biden caused all the inflation and he's the reason gas is so expensive (even though today it's down to $3.67 from almost $5 a few weeks ago) -- and the Democrats are coming to take their guns away any minute now. My one neighbor even has a bug-out kit ready, but what's motivating him, I don't know. I don't ask questions like that because I'm not an idiot.

You're awfully naive if you think I'd try to reason with these people. Even the convicted felons (of which there are many here, and child molesters too) who technically aren't even allowed to possess firearms have rooms chock full of them -- and my across-the-street neighbor has a habit of shooting his out across the swamp just for fun. When I call the sheriff's department they laugh at me. "Maybe they're shooting at ducks!" Frankly, the deputies don't have the balls to challenge these guys even know they know the shooting is illegal -- and you think I'M going to?? No one in FL is allowed to shoot on their own property unless they have over an acre of land, and all these lots, while sizable, are smaller than that. But the (white) cops don't care about these (white) good ol' boys, and I'm just an old woman making trouble.

What I find most ironic is that not five miles east of me is a FREE PUBLIC GUN RANGE in the Ocala National Forest that is open from dawn 'til dusk. Why don't they just go there in their big trucks? The only conclusion I can come to is that their guns aren't legal -- like I didn't know that already.

I own two handguns (I have a permit to carry) and have cameras all around my property. Still, I'm grateful for the "stand your ground" law. I survived here on my $800/mo. government retirement pension until I could collect my SS @ 62, so now I'm just marking time saving money until I have enough to leave. Wish me luck!

by Anonymousreply 110July 28, 2022 12:20 AM

Like victims of online scams or cult members, having the realization or a suspicion they've been had, instead of thinking rationally and correcting the behavior that led to it, they'll double down and get even more aggressive in their beliefs. It's what behavioral scientists and economists refer to as sunk-cost fallacy. Psychologists also call it escalation of commitment.

by Anonymousreply 111July 28, 2022 1:12 AM

OP is now at 63 posts out 111. I still think at least half of that balance is his alternate account.

by Anonymousreply 112July 28, 2022 2:06 AM

Democrats need orgs like Freedom Works and Americans for Prosperity that go out and talk to people and register them.

Like ACORN used to do.

by Anonymousreply 113July 28, 2022 2:22 AM
An issue for rural dwellers is the lack of medical care and lack of hospitals nearby.

And you know what the Democrats did to make [italic]progress[/italic] on this problem? Pass Obamacare, which had subsidies for the states to save regional hospitals, hire doctors and nurses, and build the infrastructure to provide healthcare to rural residents. And their governors and legislatures stopped Medicare expansion to the direct detriment of their constituents, who all voted them back in because Obama is black and the Democrats are evil.

Re: R116

I see the Righties on my socials asking for "prayers up!" from the "prayer warriors" for all of the (increasing numbers of) cancer patients. Kids with cancer, more and more often "rare" kinds. Passing on go fund mes for those cancer victims. Bitching about "Big Pharma" and having to go three states away for quality medical treatment. Astronomical medical bills.

But yet, they still vote Republican. Straight ticket. Every election.

Republicans, who give tax breaks to companies that routinely toxify our land, water, and air. Republicans, who loosen or destroy regulations allowing those companies to escape ligation for doing so. Republicans, who take kickbacks from "Big Pharma". Republicans, who vote against lowering the cost of LITERAL life-saving medicine. Republicans, who vote against expansion of the ACA. Republicans, who want to destroy the ACA with no plan to replace it. Republicans, who want to gut Medicare and Medicaid.

I guess those guns the REPUBLICANS are benevolently allowing those fools to keep will come in handy, when they need a quick way to off themselves. Those same Republicans they vote for won't give a fuck when they're full of cancer from contaminated water, or toxic air, or not being able to afford chemo. Save a bullet, Rightie! #WinRed

They want their guns, stye sen to assume the US is Christian country (it's not) they hate most foreigners, hate Blacks, hate Latinos, hate gay men/lesbians and basically hate any kind of gay rights, they also want 'their women' to revert back to being 1950s housewives. They want their women to be their property.

Deplorables don't seem to care about passing any new laws which would actually [bold] improve their own personal lives [/bold]. They are too busy being concerned with others sex lives and womens reproductive systems. They don't seem to care about affordable healthcare, medicine prices, keeping Social Security and Medicare solvent, well paying jobs and real issues which directly affect them.

These people also don't seem to comprehend that so many US jobs were offshored because of the greed of CEOs and investors. They'd rather blame foreigners for taking 'their' jobs.

They want the US to revolve around their own personal gripes, most of which do not affect them personally. Deplorables still don't comprehend they are in the minority. Most are uneducated, when interviewed they sound as if they barely finished 6th Grade.

Watch Jordan Klepper's (from Trevor Noah's show) YouTube clips of him interviewing these deplorables. Most of these people can barely answer any of his simple questions. They cannot articulate why they think Drumpf helped them. Perhaps they know he didn't help them at all.
Working class whites were promised an American dream as kids-that they could have an upper middle class lifestyle without a college degree or working in a trade after years of training.

That is the gist of it, R53

In the midcentury postwar period the social classes were not that far apart which is why most people considered themselves "middle class"

That started to change in the 80s and 40 years later it is off the charts.

So that is their main issue--they went from" Leave It To Beaver" to "Roseanne" very quickly and they are furious about being left behind and feel--not without some justification--that the upper middle class educated meritocrats, many of who came from middle class backgrounds, blame them for their fall from grace while giving Black people a free pass because of racism.

The Meritocrats are almost all Democrats now too--Wall Street, Tech, Media--it's rare to meet a Republican, at least one who is open about it.

So much of the anger is about that--their fall from grace and Trump is a great big Fuck You to all the nerds like Hillary who Thought They Were Better Than Everyone Else Because They Went To College and now seem to live on a different planet, whereas 50 or 60 years ago, the gap between a unionized factoru worker and a lawyer was not the yawning chasm it is today.

by Anonymousreply 144July 29, 2022 12:50 AM

The only way to beat these people is to go door to door. It’s the only way. We need mass volunteers and bonus points for having a similar culture to the zip codes you are assigned.

This so possible, there is still time. Donate to local candidates and ones that are within a point or two. It will make a difference.

by Anonymousreply 145July 29, 2022 12:54 AM

They claim to be really vigilant about voter fraud but Dr Oz was busted voting illegally and there were no charges.

by Anonymousreply 146July 29, 2022 12:55 AM
In the midcentury postwar period the social classes were not that far apart which is why most people considered themselves "middle class"

Very true. There wasn't the huge chasm between the rich and everyone else like there is today.

For an example, look up movie stars' homes in the mid-century era. They're not sprawling mansions with multiple other buildings on grand estates. Most movie stars and other big celebrities lived in homes that today we would consider upper middle-class or moderately wealthy.

Lucille Ball's house.....

by Anonymousreply 147July 29, 2022 12:55 AM

The division now is astounding. As someone who is plopped right in between the ultra wealthy and the dirt poor it’s like something out of another world.

The distance from nothing to a million is a long way. The distance from nothing to fifty million is light years apart.

by Anonymousreply 148July 29, 2022 1:00 AM

The richest corporations in the country pay no tax. Some even get refunds.

Why do deplorables keep voting for this crap. The rest of us have to suffer the consequences of the malfeasance.

by Anonymousreply 149July 29, 2022 1:05 AM

The biggest gap today R147 is between the top 15-20% and everyone else.

Yes, there is an insanely wealthy .001%

But the gap is most obvious in how the upper middle classes--who are far more numerous and thus far more visible- live completely separate lives from the rest of America.

You know how in midcentury movies and TV shows there was often a rich kid or bunch of rich kids in the town in the same school with everyone else?

That doesn't happen anymore. The UMC have moved into these sort of fortress-suburbs, places like Palo Alto and Lake Forest and Scarsdale, and they don't interact with anyone else... nor do their kids, who graduate from (good) colleges without any debt, placing them on an even more distant plane from the rest of the country.

I've said this in other threads, but we are in many ways back to the 18th and 19th century world of "gentlefolk" and "peasants" portrayed by Dickens, Austen and others of that era.

by Anonymousreply 150July 29, 2022 1:06 AM

Yes r 150 the distance between the two has widened even spatially. They never interact anymore.

Summer camps and community centers and schools and even malls and just public areas that used to be integrated now seem completely segregated by class.

I live in a rural Virginia county where Bill Clinton was the last Dem to win the presidential vote.

Gas is still 4.39 here (though 3.89 at the Sam's club in the nearest bigger city 30 miles away). Based on conversation at the post office and Gas-and-Go, the major issues here are prices in general, the lack of local manufacturing jobs (though the last manufacturing plant in the county closed in the 1950s years ago when the tomato cannery got bought out by Birdseye), the Libs in DC who want to take their guns, and the lack of things for kids to do (social stuff, after school activities, jobs). The forward-thinking youth generally see no future here, so they are moving away for school, better jobs, etc. The young folks who stay are those who get married/pregnant right after HS. The county's biggest employer is a prison. We are 30 miles from a college town with jobs, so some young couples and retirees move here because you can still buy a 3BR home for under 200K. But they are regarded as 'come-heres' and not native born, and therefore regarded as outsiders.

We've lived here for 25 years, and still regarded as come-heres. We were the first same-sex couple married in the county (made the cover of the weekly newspaper), and generally welcomed by most. We've been told that we are 'good gays' (not like those in San Francisco or NYC).

There are any number of reasons (Fox, social media, globalization, etc), but I think it comes down to this: it used to be possible to have a decent life (own a modest home, drive a reasonably new car and occasionally take the kids to the beach or an amusement park) on a blue collar salary. Now benefits - if you get them at all - have been slashed, wages are stagnant, the best jobs are going overseas all while you can't afford to send your kids to college, retire and heaven forbid you get sick because then you're really screwed. I also think that the advancement of women and minorities in the work and the efforts to create a level playing field make the same people have to work harder and they don't like that.

I think people are angry & hopeless & repigs have been very effective at tapping into that hopelessness. There really is no answer - and certainly no easy answer for any of these things, so repigs demonize the other & that gives them a place for their hatred & frustration.

Team D have plenty of shit on them too. I really believe A lot of what makes deplorable ness is inequality, Offshoring jobs that could easily have remained profitable in The USA. Voting to remove financial laws to stop abuse by wall street, in place since the great Depression. Such as the The future commodities trading act. The fair reporting doctrine that spurred the Rush Limbah mind spam media revolution. Don't be fooled by Team D and Team R labels. Amerikkka should be CHRISTIAN. With the white people on top, with all the advantages. Then, even if they're poor, they won't be as angry about it because the blacks, Hispanics, and other foreigners will be kept down.

by Anonymousreply 185July 31, 2022 3:11 PM

Oh and for a lot of the men, the Jordan Peterson following young ones and the elderly pissants - also don't like uppity women, being vice president, Supreme Court justices, well, any kind of judges, or running things. Fuck 'em and keep 'em out of menfolk's work. They're taking jobs a white man could have!

by Anonymousreply 186July 31, 2022 3:13 PM

Yes, it is also Patriarchy. But no one with two brain cells would ever respect these white trash! I don’t care what they want…with whites on top of others or WTF others! These white trailer trash, inbred, toothless wonders will never get an ounce of respect - not ever. Not from the gay community or any other minority group. It’s simply their own delusion. If anything, uppity educated women and Asian MDs or professional POC minorities should ban together and boycott their services from these white trash deplorables in order to hasten their extinction.

And Trump is a thieving, deeplorable-exploiting (for cash to put in his own pocket but they’re too dumb to realize it), treasonous, lying, rapist, conniving, self-serving exclusionist, lawbreaker with messianic criminal Presidential aspirations. (Also red-state COVID denier (but vaccinated) murderer killing his own voters). Good.

That’s chump change! One deal between multinational Corporations and Goldman Sachs and former Republican Lawmakers can yield 100s of billions in profits!!!

Do you really have no idea the money that flows from the government to the Republican Party via Wall Street??? Especially during a Republican Presidency.

by Anonymousreply 197August 1, 2022 2:45 AM

R194. The Republican Party votes in favor of big tax breaks for the wealthy and large corporations. They also receive a ton load of money from Big Oil and Gas lobbyists…but you already knew this. People like you must enjoy fucking over the average person and not give a shit about how much destruction and lives are taken due to climate change that these asshole Republicans keep supporting.

Have you not noticed the out of control fires breaking out all over the Yosemite area, destroying one of our most precious national parks.. Or perhaps you haven’t noticed the record-breaking heat all over the world. Or the fires breaking out across Europe…and I’m just pointing out natural disasters that happen to be in headlines today.

Why don’t you pull your head out if your ass and take a look around. Read the news. Or better yet, go haul your ass to Kentucky to find more flood victims in Kentucky. Go help out your buddy, Moscow Mitch, and do his work for him.

You know, those same Pigs that have never met a war they didn’t love and in favor for.
I would love to know what the genuine kitchen table issues are under all that grievance and aggression.

The vast majority of the time, if they have a complaint, it's shrugged off with a comment about it being the fault of Biden or the liberals. It's been that way for generations. Disasters are God's will and suffering is just how life is. The Protestant work ethic, already troubling, has been systematically bastardized by the Republican Party into a system that tells people that their sacrifice for the capitalist good is their entire purpose in life. What used to be the ideal of hard work, discipline, and adherence to Protestant morals which would lead to a good and comfortable life, is now just the first part -- work hard, defend a set of strict morals -- but with no payoff to anyone but corporations.

It's not really any different than the kind of societal issues you would see in Europe centuries ago. Churches telling their flock to suffer, donate, be moral, judge others, while the clergy swanned around in golden robes and waved jewel-encrusted whatnots, in the name of the Lord, of course.

The kind of person who wants to do something about problems and wants to help others is not going to be part of any corporatist, conservative party. Their ideologies simply are not compatible.

by Anonymousreply 201August 1, 2022 10:19 AM

He probably put you on ignore, r196, since you posted about 20 times over the course of 24 hours (I hope you slept; not sure you did) as you obsessively recorded how many times the OP posted, and who you thought were his sockpuppets, because "it's so easy to tell."

I will never not be astonished by the obsessives who get all "J'accuse!" at others for obsessive behavior.

by Anonymousreply 202August 1, 2022 10:28 AM

R202 -

Dear shit for brains. My posts of 20 in 24 hours, if that's accurate, is less than one an hour. But more importantly, they aren't posts that compliment or agree with other posts I made. THAT is the psycho behavior. I also see you didn't respond in his stead. As for R196, still waiting. If he did put me on block it's only because he lacks the balls and brains to counter intelligently.

And lastly, I am sure a lot in life astonishes you. You sound basic and simple-minded.

by Anonymousreply 203August 1, 2022 11:51 AM

R202 has only two posts in their history. Both on this thread, and both supporting the OP. Why, that's not strange at all...

by Anonymousreply 204August 1, 2022 11:58 AM

R200 - Hey genius, the Governor of Kentucky is a Democrat. He's even kind of cute. Oh, and making fun of people dying and becoming homeless is just disgusting. You're not just ignorant, you're a piece of shit too.

by Anonymousreply 205August 2, 2022 2:21 AM

R199 - How do you sit down? Aren't you worried about crushing your brains? Oh that's right, you haven't any.

by Anonymousreply 206August 2, 2022 2:23 AM

R198 - Oh my. So, so many words and yet nothing said. Certainly not any proof of anything, or refutation of Wall Street bankrolling the DNC. I'd would say, "Nice try," but I'm not that generous.

Why don’t you help out your Republican state residents and help Gov. Beshear by actually putting your words (albeit weak ones) to action. Go there now! Help the first-time Democratic Governor find and save survivors. Maybe your strained conscience will let you sleep better. But who am I kidding. You don’t have one.

Lots of the people we're calling deplorables used to be Democrats. Many middle, working class and poor people didn't even vote in 2016 (voter turnout=54%) because they likely thought it was pointless. Neither party had improved their lives. If the Dems want to win in 2024 they have to stop ranting about Trump and start making it clear to voters what they will do for them. Get the message out there and be specific, register voters, clean house. Be the party of the people again.

For 16 years when the Democrats had the White House things only got worse for the middle and working classes. Yes they only had control of both houses for 4 of them but in all that time they did not reverse the decline of wages and job security. Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama ardently pushed for free trade agreements without providing millions of blue-collar workers who thereby lost their jobs means of getting new ones that paid at least as well.

They stood by as corporations hammered trade unions, the backbone of the white working class – failing to reform labor laws to impose meaningful penalties on companies that violate them, or help workers form unions with simple up-or-down votes. Partly as a result, union membership sank from 22% of all workers when Bill Clinton was elected president to less than 12% today, and the working class lost bargaining leverage to get a share of the economy’s gains.

Bill Clinton and Obama also allowed antitrust enforcement to ossify – with the result that large corporations have grown far larger, and major industries more concentrated. The unsurprising result of this combination – more trade, declining unionization and more industry concentration – has been to shift political and economic power to big corporations and the wealthy, and to shaft the working class. This created an opening for Donald Trump’s authoritarian demagoguery, and his presidency.

Americans rebelled by supporting Trump who wants to fortify America against foreigners as well as foreign-made goods. The power structure understandably feared that Trump’s isolationism would stymie economic growth. But most Americans couldn’t care less about growth because for years they have received few of its benefits, while suffering most of its burdens in the forms of lost jobs and lower wages.

by Anonymousreply 213August 2, 2022 2:14 PM

Again, simply go back and look at the many pro-working class bills that were passed in Pelosi’s House of Representatives that were unanimously blocked by ALL Republicans. It’s all well documented, from the anti-price gouging House legislation to the bill to provide health care to Vets that suffered from fire pits. It’s not a hard thing to research because the RePigs vote nearly every week to fuck over the working poor! From providing basic healthcare to the less wealthy to increased taxation of fucking hedge fund billionaires! Any ignorance on your part is completely and entirely a WILLFUL one! Please peddle your bullshit somewhere else. We’re all stocked up for now!

by Anonymousreply 214August 2, 2022 2:25 PM

THE REPUBLICANS SOLD AMERICA TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER

by Anonymousreply 215August 2, 2022 2:29 PM

Yes. Billy boy did allow the merger of big banks like Chase and CITI to buy up many smaller banks that allowed them to form too-big-to-fail banks that enabled the 2008 crash. I’ll give you that. And fuck Billy boy for that and NAFTA! However, he was Lewinski-fellated just as hard by the Republicans. They are not innocent in that at all. To the point, Bill Clinton did win the Presidency X2 and we had a good time in the 90s. Oh well…..

by Anonymousreply 216August 2, 2022 2:33 PM
Any ignorance on your part is completely and entirely a WILLFUL one! Please peddle your bullshit somewhere else.

And you thing this attitude is going to attract voters? It's blowhards like you that will snotty us into another Repug president in 2024.

by Anonymousreply 217August 2, 2022 2:38 PM
For 16 years when the Democrats had the White House things only got worse for the middle and working classes. Yes they only had control of both houses for 4 of them but

That "but" is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama ardently pushed for free trade agreements without providing millions of blue-collar workers who thereby lost their jobs means of getting new ones that paid at least as well.

When Hillary Clinton outlined her plan to help coal workers find new jobs when their industry continued to downsize, the media fucked her up the ass constantly for months on end for daring to say such a thing. Trump promised to bring coal jobs back but by the end of his term, jobs were down 25%. The media barely said anything about it, other than a few articles here and there.

They didn't want to face reality and get new jobs. They want their old jobs forever. That's not the fault of the Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 218August 2, 2022 2:43 PM

R217, explain how some anonymous comment on Datalounge will lead to a Repug president in 2024. Show your work.

by Anonymousreply 219August 2, 2022 2:44 PM

R219 Obviously I was referring to the arrogant attitude of the anonymous commenter as unlikely to win over undecided voters. Show your brains.

by Anonymousreply 224August 12, 2022 3:05 PM

They have these fake issues for like a week and then poof. Nothing.

by Anonymousreply 225August 12, 2022 3:10 PM
It’s not immigration, if anything, those towns are desperate for immigrants. They need the labor.

Really, OP? I assumed these towns are dying and it's difficult to find gainful employment.

by Anonymousreply 226August 12, 2022 3:14 PM

The biggest problem is joblessness and rising costs. Uneducated whites don't realize that those bue collar factory jobs are GONE and not coming back.

by Anonymousreply 227August 12, 2022 3:31 PM

There's all the towns in Massachusetts that used to have textile mills and are now economically depressed, eg Lowell. Plenty of people addicted to drugs. That's not going to change unless they can find work and have a brighter future.

by Anonymousreply 228August 12, 2022 3:40 PM

Republicans closed the deals to sell the few remaining factories in deploraville to the Chinese and they can’t fill the slots.

by Anonymousreply 229August 12, 2022 3:45 PM

Democrats can win back these voters if they focus on the issues.

by Anonymousreply 230August 12, 2022 3:45 PM

Same old shit. White Christian assholes mad at the world for not treating them like the anointed monarchs of Earth. Which their pastors, politicians, and assorted propagandist are more than happy to encourage.

by Anonymousreply 231August 12, 2022 3:48 PM

Trans swimmers, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 232August 12, 2022 3:49 PM

Take a state like Florida. The state government has collapsed. They do nothing for the people. The water is toxic and a kid died the other day from the water.

Republicans ruin rural areas. They need to vote democrat in 2022. Change the tape. Rural and Republican strongholds are always dilapidated and neglected.

by Anonymousreply 233August 12, 2022 3:53 PM

deplorables entire agenda is fake. All the issues are fake. It’s like a mass delusion.

by Anonymousreply 234August 12, 2022 3:54 PM

What are the deplorables' real issues? That those uppity colored folks think they're as good as God-fearing white Christians. And, heaven help us, one of them even became president

by Anonymousreply 235August 12, 2022 5:10 PM

That’s not going to help the recover from the factory closings and offshoring of their entire lifestyles.

These people are husks. They have nothing left. Voting Republican will only continue to make it worse. This needs to be a change election for rural communities.

by Anonymousreply 236August 12, 2022 5:40 PM

Nah, rural folk don't want to vote for those Godless homo-loving Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 237August 12, 2022 7:34 PM

I agree R235. Hispanics too. Any foreigners, really.

And then there's Fox News and all the similar propaganda tools the far right has, when before it was just talk radio -- now it's all manner of horrible shit online, Facebook bubbles making it where they never question their opinions because all their friends hype them up - mob think.

Some states are probably write-offs for the foreseeable future (forever)? But maybe a few purples will drift blue? If we can keep North Carolina and Virginia, maybe get Georgia, make some progress in some parts of the Midwest - Michigan, western Pennsylvania, Wisconsin. Keep Minnesota. Oh I don't know... it's a slog but it ain't over yet.

by Anonymousreply 238August 12, 2022 7:35 PM

To those in the know, if Florida among the write-offs? Obama won it twice, didn't he? Hillary was close.

by Anonymousreply 239August 12, 2022 7:36 PM

R239 -- that was before Trump-lite DeSantis was in power, and who, since then, has done his best to destroy Florida and any obliterate any semblance of free elections in the state.

by Anonymousreply 240August 12, 2022 11:28 PM

We just can’t write off half the country. We need to open rehabs and bring in some structure and design to get things back on track. Real solutions.

People need to lay off the stupid social divisive issues and focus on real life issues in rural area and get these people moving again.

by Anonymousreply 241August 12, 2022 11:31 PM

Every problem has a cause and a solution.

You can never identify those things and work to fix them if you’re too busy fighting fake issues and repeating billionaire talking points disguised as rural grievance.

by Anonymousreply 242August 12, 2022 11:33 PM

I'm not sure every problem has a solution. Maybe a culmination. Terminal cancer? Climate change? The sun dying, as all stars do.

by Anonymousreply 243August 13, 2022 1:55 AM

Terminal cancer is not so much a problem as it is a condition or an outcome.

Sheesh.

Every problem does in fact have a solution or it’s not a problem.

Don’t give up so easily and pitifully.

by Anonymousreply 244August 13, 2022 4:30 AM

R243: “woe is me, we must surrender to the fates. We must accept the oppressive republican forces and submit and obey. all hope is lost just give up and give in”

You’re dealing with dumb (uneducated) white trash that is being kool-aid by the Republicans that their sorry, loser-asses have been denied their birthright supremacy by foreigners that have no right to be here in the first place. As stated in the Bible.

by Anonymousreply 246August 13, 2022 10:43 AM
