This is the very definition of legendary legend.
PLEASE. She didn't do anything but show up and sing it. She didn't write it, come up with the music or the melody, design the dress, or even put on her makeup. Just like Beyonce. You can see the puppet strings if you look hard enough. She's essentially a Barbie doll.
ENOUGH of this legend shit.

Diana Ross does put on her own make up, she insists on it. I read that somewhere ridiculous obviously.

I discovered this song when it was a hit in the U.K.
It's cheezy, yes, but I still really like it and a practically elderly Miss Ross looks great in the video. The young guys climbing fences to get at the old girl is pretty over the top though.
Basically a Bee Gees' song like Swept Away is basically a Hall and Oates tune. Still fun.

Something like 16 key changes. Massive #1 hit in UK and Australia, though it fared poorly and mostly as a dance tune in the US. Still a fun song and video.

It really is considered a classic song in the UK. It's one of those songs everyone of a certain age knows the lyrics to. And it had an iconic video.
Steps recorded a version in 2001 which was kept at #2 behind Kylie, revenge for their dreadful version of Better The Devil You Know. After the success of Tragedy they decided to do another GIbb x3 song.
Poor H for Homosexual was being locked in the closet by his manager/boyfriend when they recorded it so he was made to sing the the line "you taste a little then you follow slower" rather than swallow.

I love how she sashays through the dirty street dragging her white fur on the ground.

She performed this song for the Queen just a few months ago

I love the Steps version. Their video was done in one take. But I really love Diana’s version too.

A massive hit outside the US. One of those decade-defining songs.

By that logic, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard should have had hits. They didn't. Diana is a winner, baby!

I liked the Supremes when I was a kid- less as I got older, ditto Diana. Lots of production and show biz glitz. Frankly old YouTube of Marlene Dietrich is much more interesting. Gowns and big hair and mostly silly songs have their limit. Dietrich with limited vocal chops served a song better, and sang better songs. She was much more fun. I’ve never taken Diana seriously as a singer.

Yes. Because gowns and big hair had nothing to do with Dietrich.

I spent a semester abroad when that song was a huge hit in UK. You heard it everywhere. Still love it!

This is a Diana Ross thread. This is not a Marlene Dietrich thread. Back to the topic at hand of our legendary legend, Miss Ross.

Love the song, both versions. Was it Steps or S-Club 7 that did a mash-up of Michael Jackson songs too?

I think it's a fun song, but as we learned on Barbra's Guilty album, the Bee-Gees wrote some really stupid lyrics.

"Taste a little then you swallow slower..." is about precum, right?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 26, 2022 4:28 PM |
I assumed it was about orgasms.

No one swallows jizz slowly.
