A Day in the Life of a Seminarian

Go behind the scenes of a young priest in training.

He's cute in a twinky sort of way. And with a workout video with his priest-in-training bros at the end.

They all seem *very* gay.

They are slightly less relevant than they are interesting.

There may be some gays there but there is a phenomenon of straight religious bros. They are conservative as a rule. It started about 20 years ago in Calvinist circles but one sees it now across the Christian denominational spectrum. Conservative Anglicans, evangelicals, and Catholics. Also JP II and Benedict made a concerted effort to ensure more conservative or orthodox teachers in the seminaries. A surprisingly high number of younger priests are of this type.

It's not the 70s, 80s, 90s any more bros in the Catholic Church. They actually speak of waiting for the Boomers to die off, they refer to it as the "demographic solution" to the problem of modernism in the Catholic Church.

by Anonymousreply 3July 25, 2022 11:45 AM

^ That's interesting R3.

by Anonymousreply 4July 25, 2022 4:49 PM

not all that gay, just bring. Glad I'm an atheist.

by Anonymousreply 5July 25, 2022 5:03 PM

I would like to believe these young men are following in the footsteps of Jesus.

But as a lapsed Catholic, I know far too many of them are more interested in their golf game and their tanning beds.

by Anonymousreply 6July 25, 2022 5:12 PM

I can't begin to imagine a young dude like that not jerking off. You can sense the hormones. He must get horrible headaches. Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 7July 25, 2022 5:49 PM

Oh, they jerk off. I have a former student who was a seminarian and was kicked out when he was discovered going down on two other seminarians. He said that sex is everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 8July 25, 2022 5:53 PM

I'm sure the oldest priests will love having him around

by Anonymousreply 9July 25, 2022 5:58 PM

[R3], I’m not understanding your post, but it seems interesting. Can you explain in laymen terms why the church is waiting for the boomers to die off?

by Anonymousreply 10July 25, 2022 6:25 PM

Is this the person who cleans up all the spilt semen?

by Anonymousreply 11July 25, 2022 7:08 PM

I have a straight friend who was in seminary (he dropped out). He said that EVERYONE was gay and he was the odd straight man out.

by Anonymousreply 12July 25, 2022 7:10 PM

I got a degree from a (Reformed) seminary and as far as I could tell I was the only gay in the village.

by Anonymousreply 13July 25, 2022 7:17 PM

R12 Good of him to come out as a straight man, their journey is a hard and treacherous one.

by Anonymousreply 14July 25, 2022 7:26 PM

That is a funny comment R14.

by Anonymousreply 15July 25, 2022 7:36 PM

He looks more like a SEMENARIAN.

by Anonymousreply 16July 25, 2022 7:41 PM

A close, family friend is a Catholic priest. He teaches philosophy at a university. He's now in his eighties. He was ordained just before Vatican II, and he is a very good man. He marched with MLK, jr., protested Vietnam and subsequent wars. Welcoming of me and other gay relatives and our relationships. He's like the Jesuit James Martin.

He is saddened at the state of the priesthood today and has been for a very long time. On the whole, Catholic seminarians today are extremely conservative and are very unwilling to bend. It truly grieves him to see so many who are so conservative and lack humility.

I saw that as soon as I saw the seminarian in OP's video take out the flask with the holy water and bless himself....ultra-conservative. Would not surprise me in the least if he were a closet-case too.

If he's ordained, I fear for the young woman who come to him for counsel when she finds herself pregnant and contemplating abortion. He will have no understanding of the very real struggles she and others like her experience. Only a rigid, dogmatic stance will guide him.

by Anonymousreply 17July 25, 2022 7:43 PM

I dropped off a guy the morning after at the seminary where he was studying. He invited me in to have a look around and that place was like a gay bath house. Guys walking around in towels camping it up. Full on gay.

by Anonymousreply 18July 25, 2022 7:43 PM

[quote]I'm sure the oldest priests will love having him around

I'm sure the oldest priests will love having him.

by Anonymousreply 19July 25, 2022 8:00 PM

Looks like a pretty boring life to me. Let's hear him talk about marriage, celibacy or homosexuality in the Church. Also, so curious that there are pictures of Pope John Paul but not of Pope Francis. Curious to know what his thoughts are on the current Pope. Conservatives generally don't like Francis.

by Anonymousreply 20July 25, 2022 8:00 PM

His OnlyFans is totally not worth it.

by Anonymousreply 21July 25, 2022 8:00 PM

He's trying very hard to make seminary life look cool - it isn't.

by Anonymousreply 22July 25, 2022 8:04 PM

R17 the lack of humility in US conservative Christians is quite bothersome - I think your family friend is absolutely spot on there. Young kids like this one are probably hyper aware of the abuse problems in the church and likely view their vocation as a personal holy war against those wrongs.

by Anonymousreply 23July 25, 2022 8:49 PM

Don't care enough to watch the video but is he Catholic, or some other denomination?

by Anonymousreply 24July 25, 2022 8:52 PM

The only seminaries seemingly attracting vocations are ultra-conservative organisations like the Society of St Pius X (SSPX) and Institute of Christ the King, both dedicated to the pre-Vatican II Latin liturgy. They have hundreds of men studying for the priesthood, whereas most of the regular seminaries are lucky to have 5 students each.

by Anonymousreply 25July 26, 2022 1:44 AM

It's a not a normal life for a young man.

by Anonymousreply 26July 26, 2022 2:55 AM

R25 SSPX is not officially part of the Catholic Church. It is a schismatic organization. B XVI tried to bring it in but that's largely failed and going no where. I'm not sure about "hundreds".

The seminary in the video appears to be conservative but not invested in the Latin mass. But it is conservative. The more conservative orders are growing, that's true. The more liberal orders in the US (e.g. Jesuits, Friars Minor) are getting seminarians but not in the same numbers as the conservatives. Also a Jesuit told me that younger Jesuits were often more conservative than previous generations.

The priests of the immediate post-Vatican Era were often too far out there but this is also problematic.

by Anonymousreply 27July 26, 2022 8:20 AM

No one cares. God. What a creepy thing to post.

by Anonymousreply 28July 26, 2022 8:22 AM

R24 Don't care much for lazy people like yourselves.

by Anonymousreply 29July 26, 2022 1:21 PM

Does he drink from the fountain of Semen?

by Anonymousreply 30July 26, 2022 1:33 PM

I'm facinated by all of this.

by Anonymousreply 31July 27, 2022 3:02 AM

Did he make it on to the LPSG hot priests and religious figures thread?

by Anonymousreply 32July 27, 2022 3:07 AM

So he studies with 4-5 others? Sounds like a quality educational experience.

by Anonymousreply 33July 27, 2022 5:37 AM

When do they whack off together? And do they have open, communal showers?

by Anonymousreply 34July 27, 2022 6:17 AM

I wish I had been introspective and spiritual enough when i was a youth. I'd have been happy as a monk.

by Anonymousreply 35July 27, 2022 7:12 AM

Seminarians can date. Most leave to get married/have romantic relationships.

My understanding is celibacy is demanded at this point but is highly encouraged.

by Anonymousreply 36July 27, 2022 7:26 AM

Celibacy is NOT demanded…

by Anonymousreply 37July 27, 2022 7:26 AM

I've BEEN to this seminary!!! I'm from this part of the world and my high school show choir did a show there circa 1981.

I remember the place as being full of all these HOT seminarians running around in skimpy athletic gear.

It's really a strange place....stuck out in the middle of no where. It's literally an intersection in the middle of farm country where there is this weird Catholic Church compound.

They had a terrible tragedy there in 2002....some nut came and shot up the place and killed two men, then himself.

It's also just a couple miles down the road from Skidmore, where the infamous "In Broad Daylight" murder occured where the entire town was in on the killing of the local bully.

by Anonymousreply 38July 27, 2022 7:36 AM

R36, I guess seminarians don't take a formal vow of celibacy until ordination but I can't imagine seminary administrators investigating the money involved in training, housing and feeding one who was "dating".

I doubt that's true for Catholic priests unless they are Eastern Rite who may marry before ordination .

by Anonymousreply 39July 27, 2022 9:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 42July 27, 2022 9:29 AM

Conception Seminary? I’m sure those boys are getting constantly fucked, but it’s only going to be a real miracle if any of them actually gets pregnant.

by Anonymousreply 43July 27, 2022 9:38 AM

Who has higher ranking a monk or a priest?

by Anonymousreply 44July 27, 2022 9:39 AM

I was going to ask how many of his class will end up at the treatment center for pedophilic priest in New Mexico, but looking it up it seems to have closed. Driving through there quite awhile ago on a trip with my parents we stopped in town at a place famous for its pie not knowing what was going on in there. When we found out it explained the bad juju that hung about the town in a palatable way, despite the pie we couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there.

At least he has the right picture of Jesus hanging up, the good looking one.

Not one of the ugly woke fantasies

by Anonymousreply 46July 27, 2022 9:54 AM

Everyone I know who was raised Catholic has had sex with a priest, and everyone I know who has gone to Rome, ditto.

by Anonymousreply 47July 27, 2022 10:04 AM

[quote] In Broad Daylight" murder occured where the entire town was in on the killing of the local bully.

That's fascinating. Any movie made about it? Could be a great horror movie.

by Anonymousreply 48July 27, 2022 10:23 AM

Not gonna watch this shit, but do they discuss where they buy their fabulous gowns?

by Anonymousreply 49July 27, 2022 10:30 AM

R49 At liturgical supply stores. ,

by Anonymousreply 50July 27, 2022 10:35 AM

A priest ranks higher than a monk because priests confer sacraments, e.g., they baptize, hear confessions, marry people, celebrate Mass, etc.). However, religious priests (i.e. an Order priest such as a Benedictine, Jesuit, Franciscan, etc.) outranks diocesan (or "regular") priests, theoretically.

by Anonymousreply 51July 27, 2022 10:35 AM

[quote]Can you explain in laymen terms why the church is waiting for the boomers to die off?

Seems odd to me, since the boomers are the ones still filling pews. There is a younger, conservative Catholic cohort but its comparatively tiny next to the boomer groups. Churches are already closing across the country, many more will have to as the boomers continue to die off. Still, I know some younger Catholics who believe a smaller Church will be stronger because the remaining flock will be "true believers."

by Anonymousreply 52July 27, 2022 10:46 AM

Well if we stripped churches of their tax exempt status we could speed that along.

by Anonymousreply 53July 27, 2022 10:47 AM

A very good friend of mine is an ex-priest. He left the church first, because he wanted to marry a woman he was in love with before he went into the seminary, and second, because it was well-known that most priests were either gay whores or pedophiles. He told me a story about going over to a fellow priest's apartment and the guy had the heat turned up to like 90 degrees, hoping my friend would take some of his clothes off. My friend called the asshole out and left the clergy soon after that.

by Anonymousreply 54July 27, 2022 10:52 AM

[quote]Still, I know some younger Catholics who believe a smaller Church will be stronger because the remaining flock will be "true believers."

Yeah, I've heard of this coping mechanism as well. The problem is that you can't have both a small church and political influence at the same time, you have to choose one or the other.

I love hearing the reports that the younger priests are more and more conservative. They will repel the younger folk and this cancer will die out even faster. Great news for humanity, millenia overdue.

by Anonymousreply 55July 27, 2022 11:21 AM

R3 I readily believe there are a lot of straight religious bros in Protestant churches. The big difference is that you can be, and are usually expected to be, married to a woman. I wouldn’t expect gay men to be significantly over-represented in Protestant ministries, but I would in the Catholic Church.

by Anonymousreply 56July 27, 2022 11:31 AM

Numbers 22:

28. And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.

30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.

by Anonymousreply 57July 27, 2022 11:45 AM

I completely agree, R59. Decent people who would otherwise have sought out the priesthood and other Catholic (and xtian in general) religious life will hopefully go on to contribute to humanity in other ways.

by Anonymousreply 58July 27, 2022 11:48 AM

Speaking of gay, I haven't met a male Episcopalian priest who wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 59July 27, 2022 12:18 PM

This guy is living every DLer's dream- 24/7 sex on tap with young guys, everyone on their knees receiving the 'host', the smell of young mens' semen pervading the corridors to such an extent that incense has to be burnt continually.

by Anonymousreply 60July 27, 2022 12:33 PM

When does his OnlyFans leak?

by Anonymousreply 61July 27, 2022 12:36 PM

R54 Your friend is exaggerating. No one turns up the heat so high in the hopes that people start taking off their clothes.

by Anonymousreply 62July 27, 2022 12:38 PM
