I bought this years ago. I tried to watch it today and have been advised that it is "not currently available". I assume Bezos is going to keep the money I spent to "buy" it.
Should've bought the dvd.

You can get a used copy on Amazon for ten bucks.
My friend the other day said “I wanna rewatch The Rose sooo bad but I can’t find it!!” I said well if you really want to watch it, why not just shell out the $3 for a dvd of it? (Or better yet, the beautiful Criterion Collection Blu-ray)
Public libraries also have huge DVD collections and you can do inter-library transfers for anything that’s available. No excuse for whining about “not being able to find” a movie.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 22, 2022 9:12 PM |
Why don't you just torrent it?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 22, 2022 9:14 PM |
There's a fairly decent resolution of the film on youtube
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 22, 2022 9:14 PM |
I am watching that now, R5.
But I should be able to watch the copy I bought.

Yes. But I haven't streamed anything from the gray market since Napster disappeared.

R3 Fascinating conversation

Watched on TCM last night. Yes, Maggie is divine but so is Pamela Franklin as dependable Sandy. And Robert Stephens was totally fuckable back then. What a great movie.

The 1978 TV adaptation with Geraldine McEwan is also available on Youtube.
It is rumored that Muriel Sparks preferred this one to the movie version.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 23, 2023 8:15 PM |
Maggie was great in that scene where she broke down while showing her girls photos on the projector

by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 23, 2023 8:34 PM |
Thanks R5. That's actually better quality than my old DVD.

OP- Not FUCK Amazon for this
FUCK Amazon for charging $8.99 per month extra beginning in January to watch their shows without commercials.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and it was so hot in summer I couldn’t sleep (no AC). I’d be up all night watching old movies. Prime of Miss Jean used to come on about 1am. It was comforting.
My mother finally bought a window AC when my father was dying because the hospice aide told hospice she couldn’t come back because it was too hot in the house. So my mother bought a window AC for the room he was in. A few years after he died she got AC put in the whole house. It was my father who refused AC for all those years. Too cheap.

To be fair, it's bad if you've paid to own a movie via Amazon Video for them to then remove access to it.
But then apparently they're going to put ads on all Prime content from next year, unless you pay extra to remove them, so it doesn't surprise me.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 23, 2023 9:35 PM |
OP send them an email and authoritatively and calmly demand a new copy. Prime are actually pretty reasonable to deal with.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 23, 2023 9:57 PM |
I e bought music from iTunes that has been declared “not available in your country” and grayed out in my music library. Also Apple removed music I’d downloaded onto a computer from CDs I’d bought, then downloaded into iTunes.
I bought Breaking Bad years ago from Amazon but I don’t have it anymore. And Amazon music …all Da I bought from 5hem were downloaded onto my computer/phone/iPad that I used to play in car. Now half the time I can’t even access Prime music.
Americans used to be smarter than this. They’d boycott Amazon & apple until things we paid for were restored. Not anymore. Tech had frozen peoples brains.

I broke down and bought Murder on the Orient Express a few years back.
If Amazon pulls it, can I get a refund or is this something buried in the tiny font that I didn’t read when I agreed to the purchase?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 23, 2023 10:09 PM |
R28 preemptively email them saying there's a playback error and you want a refund
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 23, 2023 10:12 PM |
R27 Weird you can't access music you bought from iTunes as they download as files, which you should be able to play offline, so iTunes (or any other app) should play them without invoking a geographic restriction.

Or was it The Max of Miss Jean Brodie

I think it was the one where Jean is confronted by the headmistress.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 23, 2023 10:49 PM |
R1 That seems so illegal of them. You paid for it and they took it away from you. Theft.
Btw, I've never seen that movie, of course I've heard about it. I guess it's good being how you are so angry they took it and bought it and all. I've bought prime movies and now I'm wondering what ones they will just take away at some point.
You've a right to be angry.

I bought rather inexpensive software online that allows me to copy anything that plays on my laptop via Firefox and I can record zoom calls. I usually rent movies on Amazon and copy them.

I'm sure there's been some fuckery inserted over the years in small print tucked away on the Amazon streaming website. Usually accompanied by a "Our Terms Of Service Has Changed" type of thing - consisting of seventeen pages of gobbledygook that nobody ever reads because they have you by the balls no matter what you decide.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 24, 2023 8:56 PM |
R40. I pay for the rental and copy it for my own use. I don't sell or share.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 24, 2023 9:03 PM |
I suggest STILL ALWAYS buying physical media (aka dvds cds) of movies, albums, etc that you like and would re-watch/re-listen
The streaming services have proven they'll pull stuff with no notice and no plan on future availability.
