I'm sure Bash or Joe or both could've or maybe did net an invite. I know generally they're both outgoing and attend a lot of events but it's not super odd to me that they'd turn this down. As someone mentioned upthread Joe has a play probably in rehearsals and while I agree it's not running through 7pm most likely he needs to learn off the script etc, which does eat into his evenings. I presume if Bash wanted to go he could've found a way. I suppose them both choosing not to go could be linked to the DM article but I have the perhaps unpopular opinion that it didn't phase them much.

Twitter is in an uproar about the possibility of Bash’s character Ben being back next season. Obviously don’t actually care about fan tweets and they’re not particularly interesting but the context is that the creator (Alice) was on Twt answering a bunch of questions about S2. There were a load about Bash/Ben returning and she chose to ignore them all; obviously this is speculation but if he wasn’t given a brand new storyline and was written out as he was in the books as seems to be the popular demand, alice probably would have scored the easy online points of saying “I don’t want an abuser in the show more” blah blah. Seems pretty clear he will in fact be back and fans will be in a tizzy about it.

They need him back to add some conflict, there's barely any plot in the comics.

I've just been over to Alice's Twitter and she only answered like 6 questions - I'm sure she had many many more that she also didn't answer. So may just be a coincidence - although I understand her not wanting to discuss season 2 plot points.

Charlie's a hot ass mess in parts of the story, and some of that is because of Ben's treatment of him, so there's plenty of room for him just to be a douchebag in the background to bother Charlie while Ben also seethes about Charlie dating someone else for more conflict. I'm sure Bash will be around in S2-3 but won't become their friend.

He seems like a sweet guy overall and obviously his boyfriend is the lead in it so maybe he’d be supportive either way, but it’s hard to think anyone would be that invested in a show that wrote them out after S1.

My guess is that they won’t show the self-harming incident on screen (after the 13 Reasons Why backlash, I don’t think Netflix would even allow it), but we’ll see more of him in hospital, with his therapist, and of his mental breakdowns.

Anyone who thought one of the most popular actors from the show who did a shit ton of free promo for it and was the primary antagonist of S1 wouldn’t be back was completely deluded. His and Tobie’s tweets are very clear that he’ll be back, Alice or Patrick will probably reply at some point hammering home that point. Definitely no redemption arc but as others have said him playing a dark character will be a good chance for him to perform well. Joe and Kit are great and do their best but have some of the most unrealistic and saccharine dialogue I’ve ever heard; he’s honestly lucky to escape a lot of that.

The general consensus among the fans being that a 16 year-old is beyond any form of redemption because he did some awful and manipulative things by reason of his internalized homophobia is absurd. He forcibly kissed Charlie at one point and played him hot and cold. I’ve known guys like Ben and most of them don’t stay like that for the rest of their lives. If anything Ben needs help.

He’ll obviously still be the villain since Alice is writing the script, but the black and white mindset in regards to the characters is funny. Meanwhile Nick is the Manic Pixie Dream Boyfriend without any flaws. No character on the show is particularly nuanced, but since it's primarily aimed at a younger audience it probably doesn't matter to them.
