The tolerance he developed with that massive girth of his must have been off the charts. I recall reading about the amounts of pills he had to take to cause so much hearing damage. I was shocked -- it was multiple dozens per day. I'm sure he was hoarding thousands since an addict's worse fear is running out.

The thing that pissed me off, other than he didn't OD and die twenty years sooner, is that he had his house cleaner but the pills for him. A lowly woman without special skills who would have faced decades in prison on behalf of an employer who found her very easily expendable.

Many heroin addicts like Philip Seymour Hoffman who are clean for a period OD because they often relapse using same or similar amounts when they quit and had a tolerance. Same with Amy Winehouse.
