Who was better-looking in their prime: Sophia Loren or Raquel Welch?

I cannot separate them in my mind.

Raquel of course. Sophia had a coarse face.

I shagged both of 'em!

Sophia - prettier eyes and less square jaw, though both are a little wide-faced.

Interesting R2. I think Raquel is a bit trashier looking - though both have that low-brow quality

Loren, a bit older, had the more classic beauty image in the 50s and 60s while Welch was the sex kitten/bombshell in the 60s/70s. Not sure why the two of them would be compared to each other.

"Just beautiful" becomes tiresome very quickly. Sophia Loren is far more interesting to watch as an actress because her beauty is awkward/imperfect, earthy/elegant. Although she was beautiful, Raquel was always groomed and lit to perfection. In other words, boring.

I think Raquel was more beautiful and could be funny and self deprecating. She was so good in The Three Musketeers, for instance.

Sophia was striking and more alien looking but not beautiful. But Sophia had that regal bearing that stars of her magnitude have and that in and of itself is hot.

Sophia has signature features, Raquel doesn't. Both are beautiful but if you had to pick one as an iconic beauty, you'd have to pick Sophia.

Raquel, absolutely. Fantastic in both the Three and Four Musketeers.

For sheer beauty I’d go Raquel, but Sophia has a lot more likeable a persona. Funnier and warmer, and more sensual.

In the looks department, definitely Sophia. Nothing beats that carnal, Mediterranean earthiness and sensuality she had.

In terms of acting ability, again it’s Sophia hands down. Her performance in Two Women is still extraordinary, despite the radical changes in acting styles since then.

Sophia always looked more earthy and sincere; Raquel was a studio confection of plastic surgery, wigs, and Chiclet teeth.

Sophia was better looking, but Raquel had a good body. Supposedly made better via implants, and a lot of other refinements to various places including her face.

Or at least that's been the rumour.

Sophia had foot-long nostrils.

Both were incredibly beauty but I give the edge beauty wise only to Raquel and Sophia the much nicer person.

Welch is still gorgeous at 67.

Sophia was stunning with a gorgeous figure. Raquel was the knock off version.

Madonna looks better than both combined.

Was she actually offered top drawer scripts?

She was in a few good movies, The Last of Sheila, Three and Four Musketeers, The Wild Party. But despite her being a huge star, I never recalled her being up for big roles a la Fonda, Streisand and others.

She did that movie with Nick Nolte, but it wound up becoming mess that she sued and won money for.

Raquel guest starred on Seinfeld

Raquel was definitely more beautiful and sexy but Sophia had more staying power.

I knew someone who was in Welch’s scenes before that famous firing, and she said Welch was “just perfect” in the role. It’s too bad that didn’t work out, because it might have been one of Welch’s rare good roles/performances.
