That shit is disgusting and it's becoming almost impossible to find normal yogurt now. Thank you.
You Guys Need To Stop It With The Greek and Icelandic Yogurt

Well, I guess we know where YOU stand

Go to the Indian market and get desi yogurt.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 17, 2022 11:44 AM |
We like it Greek style

[quote]Icelandic Yogurt
Never tried it, but I will.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 17, 2022 11:46 AM |
Years ago, I’d get thick yogurt and fruit from a deli. It was absolutely delicious. I had no idea it was Greek yogurt, which subsequently became huge in the US. The problem is that, as it became mass produced, it lost its thickness. Now everything is called Greek yogurt
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 17, 2022 11:56 AM |
That Icelandic shit just seems like yogurt mixed with a lot of cornstarch.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 17, 2022 12:01 PM |
I found skyr bland at first but now I love it. Trader Joe's "Icelandic style yogurt" is like Elmer's paste, but both Siggi's (vanilla and berry) and Icelandic Provisions (especially key lime flavor) are great.
When I first started eating it, I mixed in a little xylitol and vanilla but I adapted and it tastes sweet enough on its own to me. I like to mix in frozen wild blueberries with vanilla Siggi's. It's delicious, full of protein, and it can really cool you down on a hot summer day.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 17, 2022 12:05 PM |
I whisk the Icelandic yogurt before adding fruit—gives it a lighter texture.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 17, 2022 12:07 PM |
Is there a Norwegian version?
now all i have to do is wait
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 17, 2022 12:09 PM |
I refuse to abide by your command, OP. Greek and Icelandic yoghurts are lovely!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 17, 2022 12:09 PM |
I don't like the Greek ones. Stinky.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 17, 2022 12:15 PM |
There is no such thing as "normative" yogurt. What OP should have said is "cis yogurt".
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 17, 2022 12:17 PM |
Greek yogurt was good when it first became popular in the US ten years ago. Just a few brands. Then all the regular yogurts were trying to do it, then the other Greek ones ended up lowering their quality. I ate "Greek Gods" brand of Greek yogurt when it first became popular here. Then a few years ago they rebranded and the yogurt became the consistency of American yogurt. They also changed the label; it used to say "Greek yogurt", now it says "Greek style yogurt". 🤢
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 17, 2022 12:17 PM |
Greek yogurt usually is higher in protein and the thicker texture makes it more filling. I have the opposite problem as OP...I am in Buenos Aires and I can't find Greek yogurt to save my life. I don't know why, but it's just not a thing here.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 17, 2022 12:19 PM |
[quote]I am in Buenos Aires and I can't find Greek yogurt to save my life. I don't know why, but it's just not a thing here.
r14 cause the Argentine people know that shit is bland and tastes like glue. If they want protein they eat a piece of meat like normal people instead of fucking up some perfectly nice yogurt like Americans!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 17, 2022 12:30 PM |
Well, I guess OP does type fat.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 17, 2022 12:46 PM |
Fage has the best Greek yogurt.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 17, 2022 12:49 PM |
I love Fage!

by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 17, 2022 12:59 PM |
Where's this mythical normal yogurt desert, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 17, 2022 1:03 PM |
I had Fage yogurt with fresh blueberries this morning....mmm...mmm...
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 17, 2022 1:05 PM |
Fuck the Geek yogurt trend. I still eat my Activia every day and it's done wonders for my digestive system.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 17, 2022 1:08 PM |
You can use Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. It's very creamy and rich...without all the calories, and less fat. You get more protein, too.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 17, 2022 1:11 PM |
Silly Fat Whores
All those flavored yogurts-- Greek, Icelandic, French or otherwise--are loaded with sugar and not "healthy" or good for you at all.
You can add your own fruit and sprinkle some cinnamon on top if you want something a little sweeter.
(And fresh fruit! Not peaches from a can with heavy sugared syrup!)
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 17, 2022 1:18 PM |
[quote] without all the calories, and less fat.
And you people doubt us when we say it is still 1987 on Datalounge.
Fat is not bad for you R23. Certainly not in moderation. It leaves you feeling fuller and does not actually make you fat or whatever it was people thought back in the Aerobics Era.
The main advantage to Greek yogurt from a nutritional POV is that it is high in protein and has probiotics which can help with gut health
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 17, 2022 1:21 PM |
Siggi's vanilla skyr has 9 grams of sugar and 16 grams of protein.
Original vanilla Yoplait has 22 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein.
Cottage cheese has 5 grams of sugar and 25 grams of protein. But who wants to eat that as a snack?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 17, 2022 1:24 PM |
Fage plain 0% fat Greek yogurt
Add 2 pkgs of Truvia+1 pump sugar free Torani lemon syrup+Several walnuts
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 17, 2022 1:29 PM |
I heard that French yogurt is very good. I never had it. People who went to Paris bought it in a supermarket, and the container is a crock. Supposedy, it's much better than our yogurt here.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 17, 2022 1:29 PM |
Slimy liquid American yoghurt is inedible, so the backlash is understandable.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 17, 2022 1:30 PM |
I eat yogurt as "dessert" because its a healthier alternative. So I refuse to eat the bland varieties, and I don't care about sugar content. In most cases it's better than eating a bag of oreos, pie or cake.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 17, 2022 1:33 PM |
I remember, back in the '60s, when I never heard of yogurt....but you would see Dannon yogurt in the stores. I think that was the only yogurt available then. I thought it was so exotic.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 17, 2022 1:33 PM |
Dannon is disgusting. Long live Chobani!
I hope chocolate is next. Hershey needs to die!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 17, 2022 1:35 PM |
"Yogurt" is an ugly word that makes an ugly sound to me, and "yoghurt" is even worse. It's a turnoff to me.
I much prefer the Icelandic "skyr."
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 17, 2022 1:36 PM |
I have a coworker who is always eating Chobani yogurt in her office and it makes her office smell disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 17, 2022 1:37 PM |
Normal yoghurt is what's disgusting. It's basically sour milk. The vegan version tastes better and is healthier. No milk hormones for me, thanks. Milk hormones are terrible for the skin and create maasive breakouts. I stopped eating/drinking milk products and the breakouts stopped, funny that. As I said: hormones in milk are terrible for your skin and your body. Avoid at all costs.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 17, 2022 1:41 PM |
I'd rather die than eat vegan yogurt.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 17, 2022 1:46 PM |
+1 R35
Foragers or Trader Joe's Creamy Cashew are both excellent.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 17, 2022 1:51 PM |
I had this delicious greek yogurt years ago. It was actually imported from Greece. Much better than crap like Chobani or Fage. I guess they discontinued it, because I haven't seen it in supermarkets since.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 17, 2022 1:54 PM |
I've been a Kefir gurl for some time now
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 17, 2022 1:57 PM |
I used to eat Yoplait yogurt. The vanilla actually tasted like real vanilla instead of that artificial stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 17, 2022 1:57 PM |
Skyr isn’t yogurt, although it looks like it. It’s actually cheese.
Icelandic people will silently judge you for calling it otherwise.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 17, 2022 1:58 PM |
I just call it skyr. I don't like the word cheese or the word yogurt.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 17, 2022 1:59 PM |
[quote]You can use Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. It's very creamy and rich...without all the calories, and less fat.
Unnatural low fat yogurt is garbage; useless for cooking. The main thing is the fat percentage. You can fix the yogurt by hanging it over your sink in cheesecloth so that it's actually fit for use in recipes calling for normal yogurt.

Ellenos is fantastic and I recommend it to anyone who ever sees it. But it's basically dessert, and it's overpriced.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 17, 2022 4:28 PM |
I ate yogurt for years because it was a health food then one day I just stopped. Greek food is my favorite type of cuisine but I never loved the taste of Greek yogurt. Once in a blue moon I will have the creamy French style. I do wonder if yogurts health benefits are overrated. I'm becoming more cynical about the pro biotic craze.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 17, 2022 4:39 PM |
What I like is Brown Cow Cherry/Vanilla and Liberté Washington Black Cherry and I have to *order them online* because you jerks keep buying so much Greek and Icelandic yogurt that they won't even carry what I like, they won't even stock it. So, please, just stop. Cut it out. Go on and adulterate something else.

Greek yogurt is just regular yogurt with most of the whey strained off. You can do that with cheesecloth or a strainer.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 18, 2022 4:27 AM |
Mel Brook‘s Yoghurt is the best.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 18, 2022 5:31 AM |
When I was a child we bought Columbo yogurt and it was very tart and tangy. It wasn't "Greek style" yogurt, just a mass brand supermarket yogurt and even the fruit-on-the-bottom cherry flavor tasted intensely different from yogurts today.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 18, 2022 5:42 AM |
Brown Cow yogurt is good. I love to eat the creamy layer on top, without mixing it.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 18, 2022 8:34 AM |
Would you like a gooseberry and cinnamon yoghurt?
What I really like about this clip is how simply Catherine Tate shows up the aspirational middle classes. The panic over dates is one aspect, but also, well-bred people do not say yo-gurt, it's yog-urt!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 18, 2022 9:01 AM |
I've started eating bulgarian yogurt; it's not as thick as Icelandic or some forms of Greek Yogurt, but very sour so you need to mix in honey & fruit. It's very filling and it cleans out your pipes in no time!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 18, 2022 9:09 AM |
Albanian yoghurt is the best by far. It’s hard to get in the US, I have it flown in.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 18, 2022 9:54 AM |
I don't *need* to do fuck all for your little yoghurt problems, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 18, 2022 11:00 AM |
I make my own Greek yogurt, it is so much better than the stuff you buy in stores. I make a batch on the weekend and it lasts all week.
BTW Greek yogurt is just regular yogurt that's been strained for up to 12 hours to get the liquid (whey) out. And all yogurt is is milk that's been been heated at low temperature for several hours with good bacteria added.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 18, 2022 11:13 AM |
^do you use a yogurt machine or some other gadget? I've tried my hand at making yogurt before & it ended up being runny cottage cheese

OP is trashy and probably still eats sugary cereal for breakfast.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 18, 2022 11:32 AM |
R67 I make it in my Instant Pot. It is seriously SO EASY.
Use whole milk.

R52, I would normally buy their plain unsweetened yogurt (you could get it for a great price at Costco). But yes, their flavored versions are basically dessert; however, it’s a great simple dessert.

Another vote for brown cow cream top yogurt. I don’t like their flavored yogurts because I don’t find maple syrup pleasant as a yogurt sweetener, but nothing beats their plain as is or with a few added blueberries. Sugar for the plain version is 8 grams.
