Jan 6th Committe Hearing on 7/12/22

Probably best to have it's own thread.

by Anonymousreply 538July 22, 2022 12:35 AM

Thanks OP!

by Anonymousreply 1July 12, 2022 4:46 PM

*its

("its" = possessive; "it's" = abbreviation of "it is")

by Anonymousreply 2July 12, 2022 4:50 PM

Thanks for the link, ElderLez.

by Anonymousreply 3July 12, 2022 4:54 PM

Thank you OP, just fired up the ol’ Nespresso, hot beverage ready to go while I pack for a summer trip that starts tomorrow, no mug cradling. These hearings are my packing entertainment, I cannot wait to see this!

I’m worried how the committee can sustain the momentum from Mama Cass — but I also have great confidence in Liz. She absolutely knows how to build a case in a Bard-like crescendo of wickedness and drama. Bill Shakespearecould not do better than Liz.

Does anyone know if Thursday night is happening for sure? Can’t remember where I read they are doing a prime-time hearing at night, hope it’s on.

by Anonymousreply 4July 12, 2022 4:59 PM

That’s quite a line up witnesses.

by Anonymousreply 5July 12, 2022 5:03 PM

Liz is not gonna let The Don off the hook!

by Anonymousreply 6July 12, 2022 5:09 PM

I hope the committee gives more names of members of Congress that colluded with a Trump.

by Anonymousreply 7July 12, 2022 5:15 PM

IK hope this leads veto an indictment of the Orange anus.

by Anonymousreply 8July 12, 2022 5:26 PM

^^to an indictment

by Anonymousreply 9July 12, 2022 5:27 PM

Patsy Baloney has a saggy neck.

by Anonymousreply 10July 12, 2022 5:28 PM

This has been really boring so far. Just rehash and recaps. Someone needs to show these people how to put on a show.

by Anonymousreply 11July 12, 2022 5:30 PM
Someone needs to show these people how to put on a show.

They know. They have. They will.

by Anonymousreply 12July 12, 2022 5:32 PM

Guess they are showing us Team Normal first, proving plenty of important people told Trump it was over.

by Anonymousreply 13July 12, 2022 5:32 PM

They are being meticulous R11. This is a legal hearing, not entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 14July 12, 2022 5:32 PM

no fireworks in the first 30 minutes

by Anonymousreply 15July 12, 2022 5:33 PM

"Does anyone know if Thursday night is happening for sure?"

Rescheduled.

Good lord, do you think they'd really put that talking pile of pigshit Bannon out there? Live on primetime TV?

by Anonymousreply 17July 12, 2022 5:37 PM

Sidney just got burned.

by Anonymousreply 18July 12, 2022 5:37 PM

There has to be a recording of Ivanka’s real voice somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 19July 12, 2022 5:38 PM

I love Jamie Raskin, but it looks like he's been going to Debbie Wasserman Schultz's hairdresser.

by Anonymousreply 20July 12, 2022 5:41 PM

Does anyone think that Jason Miller is going to jail?

by Anonymousreply 21July 12, 2022 5:41 PM

Mike I take the 5th Flynn is intimately involved in sustaining the narrative the election was stolen. Bernie Kerick who is a felon, tapped out early.

by Anonymousreply 22July 12, 2022 5:42 PM
I love Jamie Raskin, but it looks like he's been going to Debbie Wasserman Schultz's hairdresser.

Poor baby, I'll give him a referral to mine.

by Anonymousreply 24July 12, 2022 5:44 PM

45 mins, but it looks like they’re finally getting to the good stuff.

by Anonymousreply 25July 12, 2022 5:45 PM

She’s a pepper!

by Anonymousreply 26July 12, 2022 5:46 PM

Sidney Powell looks like a librarian from Texas.

by Anonymousreply 27July 12, 2022 5:49 PM

“The screaming.” Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 28July 12, 2022 5:50 PM

Sidney is far more dangerous and idiotic than I previously believed.

And, I’ve viewed her as batshit crazy for years at this point.

by Anonymousreply 29July 12, 2022 5:51 PM

Rudy!

by Anonymousreply 30July 12, 2022 5:52 PM

"yer not fightin hard enuff fer duh president, yall need tuh be fired"= the kraken

by Anonymousreply 31July 12, 2022 5:53 PM

Rudy looks hungover.

by Anonymousreply 32July 12, 2022 5:53 PM

Miss Sidney sure thinks highly of herself.

by Anonymousreply 33July 12, 2022 5:55 PM

So . . . Trump realizes he’s out of legitimate options and can’t appoint Sydney Powell to seize voting machines. He then decides to overthrow the government.

by Anonymousreply 34July 12, 2022 5:56 PM

Trump liked the crazies because he's one himself.

by Anonymousreply 35July 12, 2022 5:56 PM

Twitter banned a sitting President of the United States from using its platform.

Shameful.

by Anonymousreply 36July 12, 2022 5:57 PM

social media is the end of society

wow

by Anonymousreply 37July 12, 2022 5:59 PM

R37, those clips of Alex Jones and the others ginning up Trump supporters for a “Red Wedding” are horrifying.

by Anonymousreply 38July 12, 2022 6:01 PM

twitter loved those clicks

by Anonymousreply 39July 12, 2022 6:02 PM

This is trump rallying the mob...proof.

by Anonymousreply 40July 12, 2022 6:03 PM

Red Wedding, Red Pill. terrible nerds

by Anonymousreply 41July 12, 2022 6:04 PM

What is damning is the fact that Trump sends out this tweet at 1 AM, and all these loonies had everything ready to roll. The woman who set up the rallie, and Alex Jones and Ali Alexander (who is very close to Roger Stone) all of this was ready to activate. Talk about pre meditation.

by Anonymousreply 42July 12, 2022 6:05 PM

Super creepy electronically disguised voice. Telling the truth can get you killed in MAGA world.

by Anonymousreply 43July 12, 2022 6:05 PM

that was a former twitter employee who works in a small industry

by Anonymousreply 45July 12, 2022 6:07 PM

Kayleigh M's lawyer is the son of Mark Meadows' lawyer. I guess representing anti-democratic fascists is a family business. He was also one of Trump's US Attorneys.

by Anonymousreply 46July 12, 2022 6:07 PM

"I'm ready to die for my beliefs, are you ready to die, Police?" -MAGAT

by Anonymousreply 47July 12, 2022 6:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 49July 12, 2022 6:09 PM

Rabit animals, chomping at the bit...salivating and drooling in the idea of killing and chaos....blood...blood! They are so bloodthirsty. trump knew this and took full advantage.

by Anonymousreply 54July 12, 2022 6:11 PM
Too bad the cops didn't shoot more of the rioters...since one said, we are ready to die.

Think about the fact that when people go off about Muslims who commit terrorism, it literally takes destroying their countries and killing hundreds of thousands to millions over decades for them to attack. It only took a white trash sore loser clown bitch losing a democratic election for these white people to go feral.

by Anonymousreply 55July 12, 2022 6:12 PM

Sidney and her Dr Pepper. She’s a cow.

by Anonymousreply 56July 12, 2022 6:12 PM

He gets a secret audience with the crazy orange Cheeto when he sucks dtrump balls& tells him he is a the greatest ever.

by Anonymousreply 57July 12, 2022 6:13 PM

The violent take over by right wing mobs. Just like they took over the Supreme Court. An overthrow of the will of the people. We are very VERY close to losing our Democracy.

by Anonymousreply 58July 12, 2022 6:15 PM

It’s a Diet Dr. Pepper, R56. Which makes her a heifer.

The tanned, silver haired man sitting behind Jamie Raskin is making my mussy very moist, indeed.

by Anonymousreply 59July 12, 2022 6:15 PM

first they scream law and order and in the next moment they scream "kill all Democrats, man, woman and child".

that is what we are up against.

by Anonymousreply 60July 12, 2022 6:17 PM

The Republicans, who always scream about the rule of law, do not follow the rule of law.

by Anonymousreply 61July 12, 2022 6:17 PM
How the hell does a former Overstock CEO get a secret audience with the President?

ANY person claiming to have proof that Trump actually won, he wanted to hear from. Every single bullshit conspiracy that claimed he really won, he wanted to hear. If you told him he lost, you were done.

by Anonymousreply 62July 12, 2022 6:18 PM

R61, what don't they project about?

by Anonymousreply 63July 12, 2022 6:19 PM

After that midnight meeting with all the shouting, it seems Trump was left alone boiling mad. He sent the tweet. It tells me he solely responsible for what happened on January 6th. He made the first move. Thus, all the blood is on his hands.

by Anonymousreply 64July 12, 2022 6:20 PM

"I'm a pepper....wouldn't you like to be a pepper, too..."

by Anonymousreply 65July 12, 2022 6:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 68July 12, 2022 6:24 PM

Witness wearing a Jeans Jacket, he really pulled out his best wardrobe for this.

by Anonymousreply 69July 12, 2022 6:24 PM

Those red wedding videos might be the smoking gun...not so much for Trump, but for many of his sycophantic cronies.

by Anonymousreply 70July 12, 2022 6:25 PM

They just DEMOLISHED any alibi or shadow of any excuse Trump might use to defend himself, and they rubbed Sydney Powell's face in her own deranged STUPIDITY. Giuliani shown to be a pathetic, laughable ass-kisser, in Congress, on live national television.

by Anonymousreply 71July 12, 2022 6:25 PM

Cipollone threw Trump ALL THE WAY under the bus, lol.

by Anonymousreply 72July 12, 2022 6:27 PM

This witness in the jean jacket looks like an alcoholic homeless guy.

by Anonymousreply 73July 12, 2022 6:28 PM

Is there any doubt that the current Republicans have devolved into the worst of the worst in American history?

by Anonymousreply 74July 12, 2022 6:28 PM

The bearded one looks bored. Wonder what’s on his T-shirt. Those little pins on his “coat”. I thought there would be some sort of dress code.

by Anonymousreply 75July 12, 2022 6:30 PM

ABC is talking about the midterms. Why? This hearing isn't interesting enough for them?

by Anonymousreply 76July 12, 2022 6:32 PM

R75, it gives them “authenticity,” though. These guys seem very neo-Nazi.

by Anonymousreply 77July 12, 2022 6:33 PM

How much did that little cunt Sandmann at R67 pocket from his various lawsuits?

by Anonymousreply 78July 12, 2022 6:33 PM

How could any American think this kind of behavior was okay?

by Anonymousreply 79July 12, 2022 6:33 PM

Nobody, but NOBODY, tells Trump he lost!

Trump DOES NOT LOSE!.

by Anonymousreply 80July 12, 2022 6:33 PM

Actually, he’s been a loser all his life.

by Anonymousreply 81July 12, 2022 6:39 PM

Trump pardon aside, Flynn and Stone need to be jailed for their involvement.

by Anonymousreply 82July 12, 2022 6:40 PM

The Brooks Brothers riot was a demonstration at a meeting of election canvassers in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on November 22, 2000, during a recount of votes made during the 2000 United States presidential election, with the goal of shutting down the recount. After demonstrations and acts of violence, local officials shut down the recount early.

The name referenced the protesters' corporate attire; described by Paul Gigot in an editorial for The Wall Street Journal as "50-year-old white lawyers with cell phones and Hermès ties," differentiating them from local citizens concerned about vote counting.

Many of the demonstrators were Republican staffers.

Both Roger Stone and Brad Blakeman take credit for managing the riot from a command post, although their accounts contradict each other.

Did his cunt son receive a pardon?

He was president and he has a huge base of insane gun-toting hillbillies.

He is not going to be charged.

by Anonymousreply 95July 12, 2022 6:53 PM

Ms. Murphy needs to correctly pronounce Cipollone.

by Anonymousreply 96July 12, 2022 6:54 PM

R95, but seeing the visual evidence adds to the impact.

by Anonymousreply 97July 12, 2022 6:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 101July 12, 2022 6:57 PM

Yuck. Bannon.

by Anonymousreply 102July 12, 2022 6:57 PM

by Anonymousreply 104July 12, 2022 6:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 109July 12, 2022 7:04 PM

Does the former Twitter employee have gayvoice, or is just the distortion?

by Anonymousreply 110July 12, 2022 7:05 PM

by Anonymousreply 169July 12, 2022 7:40 PM

Was the wife at the Capitol too?

by Anonymousreply 170July 12, 2022 7:41 PM

Did anyone else catch that wife's expression when Raskin welcomed her to Washington? She looked like she was about to puke. She probably has nothing but hatred for everyone on that committee.

by Anonymousreply 171July 12, 2022 7:41 PM

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I don’t feel sorry for this guy. He got caught and that’s the only reason why he’s appearing today.

by Anonymousreply 172July 12, 2022 7:42 PM

The wife was dressed and groomed correctly. Thumbs up for common sense.

by Anonymousreply 173July 12, 2022 7:42 PM

I felt pity for the red headed witness. Stephen Ayres. He seems like a fundamentally good family man. And he's not intelligent, has low critical thinking and information literacy, and he really followed Trump. And Trump destroyed his life. He's very lucky he only was guilty of "disorderly conduct".

Rinse repeat for thousands of people, perhaps.

by Anonymousreply 174July 12, 2022 7:43 PM

R170, she was probably there, but she looks too out of shape to have scaled the Capitol wall.

by Anonymousreply 175July 12, 2022 7:43 PM

It will be a travesty if only the little guys like this get punished.

by Anonymousreply 176July 12, 2022 7:44 PM

Why, why, why is it so difficult to say ASK rather than AXE?

by Anonymousreply 177July 12, 2022 7:44 PM

American carnage, Donald Trumps legacy

by Anonymousreply 178July 12, 2022 7:45 PM

American carnage. Yep. The whole fucking country needs to turn back from that.

Raskin is so eloquent. If only his hair...

by Anonymousreply 179July 12, 2022 7:45 PM

No R170, he went with “friends “.

by Anonymousreply 180July 12, 2022 7:45 PM

I don't feel sorry for anyone who attended that "rally". The Capitol cops deserve sympathy, though.

by Anonymousreply 181July 12, 2022 7:46 PM

I have lousy ethnic hair too, buzzcut helps.

by Anonymousreply 182July 12, 2022 7:46 PM

Actually, it is the problem of one party.

by Anonymousreply 183July 12, 2022 7:47 PM

The cute gay cop is in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 184July 12, 2022 7:47 PM

Committee didn't ask who the ploughed bois are.

by Anonymousreply 185July 12, 2022 7:47 PM

Don't waste your pity on these people. No one forced them to go down their respective rabbit holes. They chose to based on their white nationalist prejudices.

by Anonymousreply 186July 12, 2022 7:47 PM

Bravo, Raskin.

by Anonymousreply 187July 12, 2022 7:47 PM
Why, why, why is it so difficult to say ASK rather than AXE?

Maybe you should ask all the whites up in The Bronx and Brooklyn who can't say "ask". It's simply an effect of the accent they developed growing up. The same reason people have trouble pronouncing words in foreign languages they have no experience with. The way our mouths and tongues move when we speak is hardwired into our brains at a certain point in life, and it's hard to change those speech patterns.

by Anonymousreply 188July 12, 2022 7:48 PM

"We depend on weak minds" - Adolph Hitler, Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson, Donald Trump, Sun Myung Moon...

by Anonymousreply 189July 12, 2022 7:48 PM

There’s no real justification for the comments about the wife. Unless you know something the rest of us don’t, the hate is unwarranted.

by Anonymousreply 190July 12, 2022 7:49 PM

Miss Cheney will cut you down.

by Anonymousreply 191July 12, 2022 7:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 194July 12, 2022 7:52 PM

Those poor dear white nationalists would gladly skin any one of us alive. Not gay friendly at all.

by Anonymousreply 195July 12, 2022 7:52 PM

R186 With all respect I disagree. The only way we are going to get to something better is to be open to reconciliation.

"Both sides are the problem... " Well, sorta, but not really... the right wing extremists are much,, much more dangerous.

But I have one heart. I feel so sad for these poor "every day" people who just made mistakes in judgement. Accountability? Absolutely, especially for Trump and his elite circle. But I need to understand the struggle these folks experience. Part of the American family...

by Anonymousreply 196July 12, 2022 7:53 PM

Oh shit. Dump is still calling witnesses.

by Anonymousreply 197July 12, 2022 7:53 PM

Trump attempts to tamper with another witness!

by Anonymousreply 198July 12, 2022 7:54 PM

It's clear to me that this was always in the back of Trump's mind should he somehow 'lose' the 2020 election. He just didn't think he would lose by that much. He was hoping for 2000 redux, losing by 100 votes in Florida.

But he incredibly went ahead with it anyway! All his life he's gotten what he wanted, so why would this be any different? He thought the whole world- all his fans- would conspire with him to achieve a fake victory.

by Anonymousreply 199July 12, 2022 7:54 PM

Curious about this mystery witness.

by Anonymousreply 200July 12, 2022 7:54 PM

Witness tampering!!

by Anonymousreply 201July 12, 2022 7:54 PM

R174 it’s sad he lost his job. He’s clearly not educated and he’d worked his way up at his company. He really got his life fucked up by following Dump. Why can’t others like him learn from his mistakes? And Mary! Mrs. Murphys story made me cry.

by Anonymousreply 202July 12, 2022 7:55 PM

Trump is digging his own grave. Good.

by Anonymousreply 203July 12, 2022 7:55 PM

Trump still trying to tamper with witnesses. They may be able to get him on that.

by Anonymousreply 204July 12, 2022 7:55 PM

Isn’t this witness talk about Bannon?

by Anonymousreply 205July 12, 2022 7:56 PM
I can't help it, I feel so sorry for this guy and his family.

I thought that too; my video started buffering when he talked about what happened, but I gathered he lost his job & his home. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but not very intelligent & got caught up in something (that he believed was) larger than himself.

That said, if he had the opportunity, would he vote for Trump again? Probably...

by Anonymousreply 206July 12, 2022 7:57 PM

Excellent hearing very much needed to move forward.

Bennie Thompson is explaining what the government is needed for.

America needs to hear and understand this.

Militias obsessed with Ruby Ridge are driving the rest of us off the cliff.

by Anonymousreply 207July 12, 2022 7:57 PM

That Van Tatenhov guy wanted so badly to go full tilt boogie, he has so much more to say.

I've believed from the start that the object was to kidnap, torture (rape?) and murder definitely Nancy Pelosi, but also Schumer, Pence and Schiff. This was a FAILED coup. It didn't turn out as PLANNED. It wasn't tourists taking selfies.

by Anonymousreply 208July 12, 2022 8:00 PM

R206, these hearings have really underlined the class divides in this country. The wealthy and educated are protected. The less wealthy and less educated? Not so much. Remember what happened to the poll worker.

by Anonymousreply 209July 12, 2022 8:00 PM

Any idea that we should just move on because the coup didn’t succeed doesn’t make sense. If it had succeeded, we wouldn’t be in a position to do anything about it.

by Anonymousreply 210July 12, 2022 8:00 PM

Where is Mike Meadows? Is that who dump is reaching out to?

by Anonymousreply 211July 12, 2022 8:01 PM

CNN says Liz's statement: "Donald Trump is a 76-year-old man, he is not some impressionable child." is a signal to the DOJ to borrow her balls and go after the orange one.

by Anonymousreply 212July 12, 2022 8:03 PM

They are obsessed with Ruby Ridge and Waco to the point of actively committing sedition and violence but they want us to move on from J6?

Nothing they say or do makes any sense.

Pence is not a hero, he is a major part of this problem. No fucking MOF.

by Anonymousreply 213July 12, 2022 8:05 PM

The evidence keeps piling up against the trumpster. He should be excited about the next hearing because it will be all about him. I hope he gets nailed.

by Anonymousreply 214July 12, 2022 8:05 PM

OT- but Fox showed the hearing and they are discussing it. I’m shocked. But I’d heard the Murdochs were looking to move on from Dump.

by Anonymousreply 215July 12, 2022 8:09 PM

Rachel Scott on ABC = turning off ABC

by Anonymousreply 216July 12, 2022 8:10 PM

Agreed, R176.

Through this entire fiasco I keep being reminded of something the Rocky Carroll character on NCIS told the Sec'y of Navy and head of CIA, both of whom were trying to shift blame for a serial killer THEY created from themselves onto the lowly agents:
You can't blame them, Mr. Secretary. For once, the weight does not fall on the bottom of the pyramid. This operation was your call. Accept it.

If only that shit happened in real life.

by Anonymousreply 221July 12, 2022 8:17 PM

Pat Cipollone waited 18 months to tell the 1/6 committee what he knew about the goings on in the White House around Trump’s efforts to cling to a second term when he clearly lost. Cipollone is not a hero by any means. And if it wasn’t for Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony…

One thing that really struck me from the Oath Keeper was that it all started at the Bundy Ranch. I thought the same and the takeover of the wildlife refuge was even worse.

The FBI should have gone in and nipped that shit in the bud when all that was going on.

by Anonymousreply 228July 12, 2022 8:26 PM

Pascale was remorseful over Ashley Babbitt but didn't mention the cops who were killed and injured.

Law and order types have zero fucks for law and order.

by Anonymousreply 229July 12, 2022 8:29 PM

Ashley Babbitt was a terrible person and an insurrectionist. Have you seen the collection of videos she posted before Jan 6? She was a cunt.

I’m not sorry about her death. She knew what she was doing.

by Anonymousreply 230July 12, 2022 8:33 PM

This goes back further to Waco.

Waco was used as an excuse to commit the Oklahoma City bombing.

That is why it is said do not negotiate with terrorists.

They believe that "duh guvuhmint killed little kids" in Waco so they build a bomb to kill innocent civilians including kids in another state?

These people can not be reasoned with and are not lone wolves.

Nixon’s top staff went to jail for Watergate, which was nothing compared to this, so there is plenty of precedence. The Mueller Report & Mitch McConnell both said explicitly that Trump could (should) be prosecuted after he was out of office. DOJ has no excuse not to go after this gang of traitors.

Trump attempting to call a witness on his own at this late stage says two things. He no longer has anyone who's willing to do his dirty work for him as was done with that Hutchinson woman, and he's entered extreme desperation mode.

I will not be at all surprised if at some point they find out he's contacting friendly foreign leaders looking for refuge. I'm sure that pig down in Brazil would gladly take him in. I can't see him fleeing to any eastern European countries, so Brazil would probably be his only choice.

No, it doesn't start with Twitter. It starts with the FEDs who were warned over and over and over again. My friend works for a monitoring company and the Feds were warned about this long before it happened. They didn't take it seriously because these were white terrorists. I don't know why anyone is shocked by LE not taking WHITE terrorism seriously when a lot of them are sympathizers within its ranks or simply think white people shit gold and piss rainbows and are incapable of being savages. But he tried to explain how citizens were denied civil rights until government intervened.

He pointed out that when a natural disaster occurs and the state doesn't have resources to support its recovery, the feds have a role to aid those of us in need.

He did not win the election in 2016 and he expected the same grift to work in 2020.

But the grift only works when there is low voter turnout, it worked in 2001 and it worked in 2016. Too many citizens participated in the election of 2020 to grift.

"The Brooks Brothers riot was a demonstration at a meeting of election canvassers in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on November 22, 2000, during a recount of votes made during the 2000 United States presidential election, with the goal of shutting down the recount. After demonstrations and acts of violence, local officials shut down the recount early. "

That's why they stick to the truth in court filings and say differently on Fox. One of Sidney the crazy woman's defenses in he defamation trial is that no reasonable person would actually believe what she was saying.

R297, they're not the ones who scare me. The ones like Bill Barr and Rusty Bowers scare me more. They know what Trump did is attempt to destroy the country and they said they'd still vote for him. The people right now who are using Trump's lies to take over election results scare me more than some trash from Ohio, because they know there was no fraud and they've told the country that in fact they do put party over country even if they had a moment of clarity.

^I'm sure so, R313, on White House phones. Shitler liked to use his own cell, we know. Any President / advisor privilege in the law would HAVE to be waived where the commission of a crime is concerned, and what Bannon is saying above, that Trump planned to do, is CLEARLY pure and utter TREASON. So there would be a presumption that a Judge could review the call tapes or transcripts and if they show criminal intent (as they CERTAINLY will), they would not be protected by any privilege. Locking Trump up for this may be politically VERY difficult, but I seriously expect that motherfucker Bannon could get 10-20 years in Federal prison for this if any evidence backs this up re discussions with the White House or others near it. -R310

Cheney said the unheard from witness was contacted by DJT, but he or she didn’t take, or return, the call.

Now making an attempted phone call to someone (even someone who’s a witness in a federal proceeding) is not proof of witness tampering.

However, Cheney and the Committee never reveal all they know. She also said they turned “their information” over to DOJ.

Makes me think they turned over more than the mere fact of an unanswered call.

Might some sort of message been captured on the witness’s phone ? ?

I heard it a couple of times again today, and it really pisses me off. This line:

“We didn’t find sufficient voter fraud to sway the election.”

All of these Republican stooges have been coached to say this. How about saying there was relatively NO voter fraud found. Or what was found was Trump supporters voting twice through dead parents.

This is a concerted effort to still make the public believe there is a voter fraud problem which needs to be “fixed” through voter restrictions. Why doesn’t the committee call them out on this bullshit??

Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas

Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona

Jamie Raskin made me cry in his beautiful closing statement.

by Anonymousreply 406July 13, 2022 6:11 AM

R121, thanks! And, indeed, R406.

Warning possibly tl;dr category:

Yesterday when i finished @my local urgent care (dx:strep throat, baby!) and returned home, walked in the front door and 1st thing i saw was Rep. Murphy's tiny deep red bow of a mouth. So, yeah very Bow-ish/Gish-esque.

Been here a VERY long time, and some of you guys are generally familiar with my posts/style...and thank God for you, because my brain's just wired that way. I'm forever seeing/hearing/reading things to which I start seeing parallels. EVERYWHERE. Drove my students mad/exasperated/entertained for 3+ decades. Same with the friends I used to have.

So Datalounge has been my rescue; plus where else could I make a Clara Bow/Lillian Gish reference without seeing the virtual eyes glaze over...virtually.

Which led to my 2nd observation @R260: Jamie Raskin's hair that took me right back to my idyllic childhood where I learned to read at 2 years old; and I loved loved loved our [italic]Child Craft[/italic] and [italic]World Book[/italic] sets. Love them still. And at least my 4 older siblings totally get THOSE reference!

I do love Rep. Raskin's passion and intelligence.

And I am wishin', hopin', prayin' we have the resolve and balls to turn this country around, so all kids CAN have childhoods like mine: instilled love of reading, loving and engaged parents' appreciation of intellect and learning styles, encouraging didactic and dialectical learning, and especily autodidacticism; forbearance, and Sooooooo much love for my country.

I do what I can....but I am SO happy I never had children.

Thanks, DL.

Meanwhile over the NYT, they are crafting new stories about how increasing evidence of Trump's criminal behavior is bad for Biden and decreasing his poll numbers

by Anonymousreply 409July 13, 2022 11:42 AM

the nyt is responsible for normalizing an unsuitable POTUS candidate whose term in office has diminished the standing of the United States as a world power and destabilized our democratic principles.

Hillary had plenty of baggage, but that baggage comes with experience.

Clinton served as first Lady for eight years during a period of expansive economic growth, 8 years as NYS Senator and as Secretary of state.

It was insulting to have someone so accomplished compete with the host of The Apprentice for the highest seat in the land.

Dump didn't belong on stage with Clinton as a serious candidate for the position, he has no accomplishments other than be born wealthy.

Biden maybe old and infirm.

Biden may have low poll numbers.

But American citizens knew better than to put his predecessor back into office to finish off the American democratic experiment.

Why does the NYTs hate America?

by Anonymousreply 410July 13, 2022 12:32 PM

At one point, Patsy Baloney stated that the reason he didn't attend a meeting was privileged. It was one of those raging, planning meetings. What could possibly be privileged about the reason for not attending a meeting? Especially when there was no privilege between him and anyone in that meeting?

One thing I'm worried about with all of this is that it will make it completely impossible for the Democrats to actually protest a future stolen election. What happens when some red states decide to send false electors again or break their own laws in 2024 and fail to declare the popular vote winner in their state the winner if it's Biden? What if there are elector shenanigans and Kamala Harris really can't certify the electors because of legitimate cheating in some states? I know, we're supposed to count on the courts but these states are changing their laws and the Supreme Court may give the states complete control of this in their next session.

The whole thing where the Repugs keep saying, "We didn't find enough evidence of voter fraud that it would have changed the outcome." instead of the truth of them not having found any voter fraud (except by Repugs, of course), seems to be setting up that state-level narrative. We all know the Repugs project their crimes with their own accusations. That being the case, they are now free to cheat because no Democrat can ever, ever call out that actual cheating without having "but you always said we had the most secure elections".
On CNN's "New Day," correspondent Kristin Holmes reported that Donald Trump has been "riveted" by the televised hearings being conducted by the House select committee looking into the Jan 6th insurrection and that he has been badgering friends and aides about how he is coming across in them.
Speaking with host John Berman, Holmes also stated that Trump's inner circle is worried he is obsessing over the hearings when they would prefer that he be concentrating on the upcoming midterm elections.
"Trump is always watching, we are told, riveted, according to new CNN reporting," host Berman began. "Trump was particularly angry after hearing his former staffers and White House counsel."
Asking Holmes, "What have you learned?" she replied, "We've heard he's always following these hearings and that's much to the chagrin of those around him who would hope that he would focus on the November midterms."
"But behind closed doors he's always talking about these hearings, asking those around him how they think they're playing out," she continued. "In his speeches and rallies he prattles on about the committee, attacking them; his social media page is a never-ending rant, essentially just attacking leaders of the committee and even talking about more obscure members of the committee and interviews they do on cable news."
"So clearly here focusing very heavily on this. One of his biggest gripes, being still that none of these witnesses are being cross-examined and he feels he doesn't have anyone defending him, particularly after yesterday's hearing," she added. "He's not the only one focused on this. We also heard from a source close to Roger Stone who told us that Stone is watching these hearings very carefully because he believes, quote, 'the committee is trying to put him in peril.'"

Please remember that Congress had two opportunities to remove Trump after impeachment—the proper method of dealing with a disgraced president—and were blocked both times by Republicans. So it’s not as though Democrats have been just sitting on their hands all this time.

by Anonymousreply 416July 13, 2022 1:46 PM

R416, and that's why we can't allow the term "Team Normal" to be normalized. There is no team normal on the Republican side with the exception of Cheney and Kinziger and any lawyers helping the 1/6 committee like John Wood who was a (R) and is now running as an (I) for the senate seat in MO.

Even many of the lawyers representing witnesses are former Trump lawyers and/or Republican lawyers. Every fucking one of them has done their part to enable the dismantling of this nation and are now trying to help the ones directly involved in Trump's lies/policies over the years, get away with their roles.

It's all so toxic.

by Anonymousreply 417July 13, 2022 2:16 PM
R417: There is no team normal on the Republican side with the exception of Cheney and Kinziger and any lawyers helping the 1/6 committee like John Wood who was a (R) and is now running as an (I) for the senate seat in MO.

Those aren't 'Team Normal' either. Save in the context of bringing the Trump fascists to justice, Cheney, Kinzinger and the lot are themselves still unacceptable as hell, as what one might characterize as 'pre-Trump deplorables.' We cannot allow extremism to re-set our standards.

by Anonymousreply 418July 13, 2022 2:22 PM

I certainly don't expect a lot out of the "never Trumper" type of Repugs, but it's surprising how strong a "liberalizing" effect often happens when people come directly into contact with the kind of mindless, brute thugishness of the Trump "mindset." It is usually pretty *educational* for them. We'll see what happens.

by Anonymousreply 419July 13, 2022 2:30 PM

R418, I'm not saying Cheney and Kinziger are normal insofar as their political ideology, only in wanting to hold Trump and his enablers accountable for what they have done. All of his lies.

Look, we've always had conservatives and believe me, I loathe Cheney in every other way imaginable, but trying to take him down and not normalize this anti-democratic behavior, puts those two on "Team Normal."

Raskin himself said that he hopes to get back to arguing with Cheney on political policy. She is now being unseated with help of the very asshole who first mentioned "team Normal." Stepien is working for the MAGAt who is running against Cheney. The audacity of that parasite calling himself "Team Normal" as he continues to enable MAGAt bullshit.
I want that extreme Trump asskisser Meadows to get his. In Cassidy's testimony he came across as a stupid, do-nothing waste of space.

Can a lawyer explain why he won't testify when it's already obvious he's guilty? Wouldn't it help him with a plea deal if he cooperates? And his lawyer had the audacity to say he could easily take down Hutchinson's testimony in a 5-min CE.

by Anonymousreply 423July 13, 2022 2:52 PM

1. I have no idea why Meadows' testimony is on any kind of voluntary basis. Perhaps he's invoked a legal privilege as Trump's former adviser. I don't know. It hasn't worked very well for ole Steve Bannon as of now.

2. NO ONE has thusfar debunked a word of what Cassidy Hutchinson testified to. If they could have, they WOULD have, way over a week ago, before the July 4th holiday weekend. Cipollone did not contradict her. She told the truth.

by Anonymousreply 424July 13, 2022 3:00 PM

Meadows is a lying cunt. Remember when he screamed during that one hearing years ago about being immune from racism accusations because he had a black nephew?

by Anonymousreply 425July 13, 2022 3:34 PM

Trump’s inner circle increasingly views Meadows as a likely fall guy for the former president’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Members of Trump’s legal team are actively planning certain strategies around Meadows’ downfall — including possible criminal charges. Trump has himself begun the process of distancing himself from some of his onetime senior aide’s alleged actions around Jan. 6.

Meadows’ already bleak legal prospects could get even worse. Rolling Stone has learned that the Jan. 6 committee has been quietly probing his financial dealings, and any new revelations would add to an already long list of unethical and potential illegal actions he’s accused of taking on behalf of Donald Trump.

In all I believe 70 people went to jail for Wategate. This included the Attorney General, John Mitchell, and I think Richard Kleindienst, Deputy AG. John Dean went to jail, as did Haldeman and Elichmann. They were Whitee House advisors, Chuck Colson, also a WH advisor went to jail. At the time of his testimony, Dean had resigned as the White House Counsel. The position Pat Cippolini held under Trump

This was so much wose. At the very least, Trump, Rudy, Bannon, Stephen Miller, Flynn and Eastman as well as Sidney Powell and Roger fucking Stone ought to go to prison for a substantial period. Certainly not less than 5-10 years. As for that guy Ayres who lost his job, etc? I do not feel one ounce of pity for him. I was disgusted with him trying to apologize to the cops, like, "Oops, sorry!" will erase the damage that was done by him and thousands of others. He is typical of all these loonies who do not trust the media so they "do their own research" and get caught up with the fake news and conspiracy theories. They are predisposed to believe that shit because they don't like Gays or Black people or "liberals."

He had no reluctance to march on the Capitol. He could see what the mob was doing. At no time did he look around him and say, "Damn. This is not cool. I'm out!" No. He went into the Capitol. We have seen the footage. We have seen what those cops were dealing with. He was part of that. He ought to be made an example of. Lost his job, his home, and he is going to jail?(Not sure about the jail part.) People died that day. Hundreds were permanently injured. And the people who worked in the Capitol were in fear for their lives. So fuck M. Ayres.

by Anonymousreply 437July 13, 2022 6:31 PM

That Rolling Stone piece above is fantastic. The Trumpies are gonna try to lay the blame for ALL OF IT on Mark Meadows, widely seen in DC as deeply stupid. This will of course cause Meadows to bring forth EVERYTHING he knows about Shitler. They all should have seen that this scenario was inevitable from the day the riot happened. Perhaps the Congressional Committee has seen this coming and so has not put the squeeze on Meadows YET. He is in BIG fucking trouble. HE is going to jail.

by Anonymousreply 438July 13, 2022 6:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 446July 13, 2022 8:28 PM

It just occurred to me that Bill Clinton was "brought down" (so to speak), by the testimony of a 20-something woman who had no business working in the White House, and now, 25 years later, Trump may be brought down by the testimony of a 20-something woman who had no business working in the White House.

Same song, second verse.

All 50 state Republican party organizations were involved in fundraising, organizing transportation and housing, and recruiting participants for the 1/6 mess. In many red states there was direct coordination with local militia groups, Oathkeepers and Proud boys. The MAGA Trumpers who had infiltrated state GOP organizations were especially aggressive, thuggish pigs who also engaged in voter intimidation while working on state political campaigns. The GOP members of Congress knew the same people who ran their campaigns and donated to them were also a part of 1/6. You can thank Roger Stone for that efficiency. It is what he does and has done since the late 60's as one of Nixon's minions. It was a no brainer since the state Trump campaign organizations were still available following the November election.

He’s a brilliant, righteous man, but it who can focus on that when it looks like his hair is equal parts grease and shoe black.

by Anonymousreply 494July 15, 2022 5:21 PM

Just needs it shorter. I have a similar hair type, lousy. Coarse and wispy. Shorter hair is neater.

by Anonymousreply 495July 15, 2022 5:24 PM

Since everyone is weighing in on Raskin’s hair, I have to say I don’t mind it. It’s not stylish, for sure, but it reminds me, if not in color but style, of a hairstyle that the founders would have worn like Hamilton or Jefferson.

House Republicans are plotting revenge on the select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection.

Republican sources say there have been discussions about subpoenaing members of the select committee, particularly Liz Cheney Adam Kinzinger.

Other investigative ideas under consideration among House Republicans include establishing their own select committee -- or repurposing the current one -- to investigate matters such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi's role in Capitol security enforcement on January 6, 2021; the intelligence and security failures surrounding that day; and the treatment of the rioters who have been jailed for their role in the insurrection.
R490: As someone who has worked in legal and been through mounds of discovery documents, text messages being deleted does not mean they're not recoverable. The act of deleting itself is an attempt to erase evidence (spoliation), which should be prosecuted, but those messages can be retrieved, and should be retrieved.

It has been claimed that these texts were deleted only incidentally as part of a program to update all of the equipment, which they say had been planned well before the OIG requests to preserve the Jan 5/6 texts, and that it wasn't on purpose. °–°

If the equipment was replaced, it's possible that they're not recoverable. Nonetheless, they're trying.

Bullshit.

Not even a believable excuse

by Anonymousreply 502July 15, 2022 9:32 PM

R502, I believe them. Just like I believed them when those same assholes immediately tried to discredit Hutchinson, because it's perfectly logical to take the word of anonymous people who clearly were deplorables, saying things anonymously and not under oath, to challenge someone who is risking her life and was willing to go under oath.

Jamie Raskin's son committed suicide right before 1/6. Him taking on this committee role just proves what a mensch he is, a lesser person would've been crippled with grief but he's doing the right thing for the country.

by Anonymousreply 504July 15, 2022 10:15 PM

If the GOP regains the House there is NO WAY Kevin McCarthy will willingly give up his shot at Speaker. The question is will he have enough support to fend off a challenge from Trump or a Trump suppoted challenge.

The best thing trending on Twitter today was "Major Biden." Because he had a habit of biting SS.

I think if they get the House, Elise Stefanik will have McCarthy suicided so she can be speaker.

by Anonymousreply 510July 16, 2022 12:43 AM

If the GOP takes the house, Trump will be named speaker. SCOTUS will overturn the 2020 election results, and the Civil War predicted will finally break out. Date/Time-stamp this entry!.

Michael Cohen said Trump rarely if ever makes phone calls himself, so if he is personally calling people he is 'melting down':

"Donald Trump never changes his playbook," Cohen told The Washington Post. "He behaves like a mob boss, and these messages are fashioned in that style. Giving an order without giving the order. No fingerprints attached."

by Anonymousreply 515July 16, 2022 3:19 PM

Wouldn't a government agency have text messages sent while on the job stored somewhere as part of a regular back-up process? I know of businesses that do that, so why not the DHS, which manages the Secret Service?

by Anonymousreply 516July 16, 2022 4:34 PM

Garland has failed to be pro-active with any of this. I am tired of hearing all the excuses for his inaction and what a professional government server he is. If he is too wimpy and/or lazy for the task at hand, he needed to have resigned many months ago. If he is personally opposed to prosecuting top Republicans for alleged federal crimes, he needs to step aside. If he is worried about the political aftermath resulting from filing indictments, that is not suppose to be his primary focus. Go when the evidence leads.

Completely making digital information go away is possible, but it's EXTREMELY difficult. Also requires cooperation among all the organizations in possession of the data.

by Anonymousreply 518July 16, 2022 4:52 PM

So if it is gone-gone that could be more damning than anything else? Like the missing 18 and a half minutes on the Nixon tapes?

by Anonymousreply 519July 16, 2022 5:07 PM

I saw some discussion last night that said the SS agents were supposed to be backing up their messages as part of procedure but many did not. Don’t know if that’s just cover for if/when they can’t recover anything.

by Anonymousreply 520July 16, 2022 5:51 PM

I believe nothing they have to say. They never even reported the incident in the car when they were supposed to do so.
