I thought alcohol shortened one’s lifespan.
The Queen did she drink daily, if so how did she make it to 96?
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 15, 2022 4:43 AM |
OP, please don't use the past tense when referring to HM. I am not prepared for that just yet.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 10, 2022 5:37 PM |
Apparently not when you have access to the best health care on the planet, which I'm sure she does.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 10, 2022 5:38 PM |
She's English, OP.
Her blood is 80 proof.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 10, 2022 5:40 PM |
Everything in moderation. She probably drinks the same small amount every day, and doesn’t overdo it.
Also, genes.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 10, 2022 5:41 PM |
She did drink daily, but we've been told it was always measured and in moderation--a cocktail every evening at the same time.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 10, 2022 5:42 PM |

Why do DL sisters say THE QUEEN, as if that POS was everyone's Queen.
Not our queen, that is for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 10, 2022 5:51 PM |
It's those shopping bags of cash that she gets from Arab billionaires which give her something to live for. Charles just says they're for his charities though nobody has any idea what charities he's talking about.
Anyway when did charities stop accepting checks?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 10, 2022 5:53 PM |
I'm told a glass of wine a day is actually beneficial to your health. Moderation is the key.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 10, 2022 5:58 PM |
You'd be half in the bag, too, if you had to tart it up like Mary Bloody Poppins every time you left the bloody house, OP.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 13, 2022 8:30 PM |
What I recall reading, HM had a Dubonnet and gin cocktail every night prior to dinner, and a glass of German wine with dinner. HM is no where near the booze bags that were her father, mother, and sister, but there have been stories about her over indulging at family parties/occasions. When that happens, supposedly the filter comes off!

From Tom Hanks interview:
"The "Elvis" actor said that he asked the queen about her drink of choice after he came prepared with some topics to talk about because conversing with her is “something you got to get ready for.”
"I knew I was going to be sitting next to her, and so I wanted to be able to talk about things that were of import, but not presumptuous, you know?" he explained. "So a few things about how often she truly has time off and what have you. It was nice chit-chat. It was OK."
Hanks then changed the topic to drinks once he saw someone place a beverage in front of the queen.
"And then out of the corner of my eye, I saw this white-gloved hand just put between me and Her Royal Majesty, this glass of water. That's all it was — a white glove, glass of water. But it wasn't in a water glass," he explained. "It was a clear liquid, and so I dared to ask the queen, 'And what is Your Majesty's cocktail of choice?' And she said, 'Ooh, martini.'"

by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 14, 2022 12:50 AM |
It’s been well-documented by various firmer chefs and other staff that the old girl has four drinks each day…gin/dubonnet ore lunch, wine with lunch, martini pre-dinner, champagne in evening. That’s why she was told a couple years ago to slow down on the tipple. She, along with her parents and sibling, were alcoholics.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 14, 2022 12:54 AM |
She's not an alcoholic, R41, you dry fucking drunk.

All reports otherwise are LIES!

by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 14, 2022 1:28 AM |
By YOUR definition, dry-drunk R44. There's nothing clinical that says 4 drinks a day defines alcoholism. But you're welcome to prove your assertion with actual medical facts, if you can find any.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 14, 2022 1:33 AM |
She drinks according to her station in life and her upbringing.
She is particular about ice cubers in her drink.
Gin and Dubonnet on ice with a slice of lemon before luncheon.
Wine with dinner.
Prince Philip liked his scotch (The Famous Grouse), while dressing before dinner in the evening.

I never claimed she was a “drunk”, broken down or otherwise, hysterical R50. Four drinks spread over an entire day will generally not make you drunk. It does make you an alcoholic. Fairly simple, really.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 14, 2022 1:56 AM |
Prove the number of recorded drinks that define alcoholism, R57--with actual medical evidence, not your opinion. We're still waiting.

At least Paris Hilton & Kim Kardashian earned their Wealth. They turned being socialites into a lucrative business and pop culture career in entertainment. Elizabeth Windsor has money handed to her by the fucking government via taxpayers.
So much more respect for Paris & Kim. They "Royals" do nothing but suck up resources from the British public and gives absolutely nothing back in return. They live a life of luxury because of the criminal family they we're born into. The UK is filled with Suckers for allowing a monarchy to continue in this day in age.

R61 They monetized their names & personas to get what they wanted. Kim did it better tho. According to forbs her skims business is now worth $3.2 Billion dollars. That's pretty impressive. Not a fan, but that's really inspirational.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 14, 2022 2:04 AM |
They all did, R63. And R64, anyone who considers Kardashian "inspirational" has abyssmally low standards.
God, you can't even have a thread about the Queen's daily cocktail habits without arousing the ire of the rather humorless (humourless?) Windsor haters. I think the existence of the Royal Family is ridiculous, too, but I'm not baying for their blood like Madame Defarge and calling the old queen a "POS."

As r65 said, they all did. More people probably imbibed more back then. While the royals probably had clean stream water brought from the country, many cities and towns didn't have fresh piped water, a well water supply, or adequate sanitation for that matter. Drinking low alcohol content wines was considered safer.

A lot is genetics. Obviously, HM has longevity on both sides - her mother was 101 when she passed, her paternal grandmother was nearly 90 (and smoked like a chimney), and there were also several great aunts that cracked 90. It also doesn’t hurt that HM has probably some of the best medical care of n the world. Go on, ma’am and neck back a few! You deserve it! 🍸
I was reminded by this thread of I think the last or penultimate British WWI veteran, and last surviving founder of the RAF - Harry Allingham. He lived until a bit past 113! He smoked, he drank, and even tho in later years he used a wheelchair, he was active with the British Legion, the RAF, and traveled to give talks at schools about WWI until the end. Genes trump all I suppose.

As a Brit I can tell you that lots of people drink similarly . Both of my parents always have my whole life. They say they've never been drunk and are in good health. It goes something like this.. my dad will have beer with lunch, keeps a 2l bottle of cider for hot days at work, has wine with supper, whisky in the evening in front of the TV.

"Major Colin Burgess was the Queen Mother’s “fixer,” and he recalls her drinking habits in the Daily Mail:
“What was memorable was her fondness for red wine,” he writes, “particularly heavy clarets, which she loved.”
In their first meeting Burgess says they must have made their way through a bottle- and-a-half. “Following my appointment, I discovered the Queen Mother’s pattern of drinking rarely varied,” he went on. “At noon, she had her first drink of the day — a potent mix of two parts of the fortified wine Dubonnet to one part of gin. This was followed by red wine with lunch and, very occasionally, a glass of port to end it. Later came the ritual observed at 6pm, deemed the earliest acceptable time for an evening drink. ‘Colin, are we at the magic hour?’ the Queen Mother would invariably ask, and I’d mix her a Martini. After a couple of these, she would sit down to dinner and drink one or two glasses of pink champagne.”
