If a guy on an app says he’s a “chaser” does that definitely mean chubby chaser?

On scruff, I see it on a lot of guy’s profiles and I wonder if they think it means “bear” or a “daddy chaser”. Especially when they then say they like to work out and they’re looking for someone who keeps their body in shape or something like that.

Are they just dumb, or am I?

Or both?

by Anonymousreply 26July 18, 2022 1:07 PM

Maybe they just mean they are chasing for a hairy and/or older guy, instead of chubby.

by Anonymousreply 1July 9, 2022 4:08 PM

It's the thing you drink after a shot of tequila, Rose

by Anonymousreply 2July 9, 2022 4:28 PM

I’ve wondered the same thing OP.

DL please enlighten!

by Anonymousreply 3July 9, 2022 4:50 PM

Sometimes it means "bug chaser", someone trying to get infected with HIV. (Or at least it used to mean that.)

by Anonymousreply 4July 9, 2022 4:52 PM

What R4 said. That's the first thing came to mind, although that was probably more of a 90s-00s thing.

by Anonymousreply 5July 9, 2022 4:53 PM

Chaser is short for chubby chaser.

Next.

by Anonymousreply 6July 9, 2022 4:55 PM

That's how I read it, that they like hefty.

by Anonymousreply 7July 9, 2022 4:55 PM

I've mostly heard "chaser" refer to men who are into trans women

by Anonymousreply 8July 9, 2022 4:58 PM

I think those saying "chubby chaser" are just being hopeful.

by Anonymousreply 9July 9, 2022 10:16 PM

I thought chaser was pretty commonly known to mean chubby chaser. But I see too many guys using it that I’m SURE aren’t interested in fat guys. I really hope they don’t mean bug chaser! God, that’s such a horrid thing. Being into “trans” is an option on scruff, so I don’t think they’re using it as trans chaser.

I feel like asking some of these guys. But I think they’ll just take it the wrong way and get offended if I ask (especially if they’re daddy chasers and not chubby chasers).

Can we not have a congressional blue ribbon committee appointed for clarifying and harmonizing hookup app lingo? Anyone in the Biden administration that can push for this?

by Anonymousreply 10July 15, 2022 4:08 PM

You do what the top says to do, R10. You don't need to know anything else, cunt.

by Anonymousreply 11July 15, 2022 4:11 PM

Huh. Google says it means trans chaser. That seems redundant because you can choose being into “transgender”. 🤷🏻

by Anonymousreply 12July 15, 2022 4:12 PM

Oh, God, here we go...

by Anonymousreply 13July 15, 2022 4:14 PM

Yes. R13. I almost immediately regretted posting at r12. I hate the anti-trans threads here and I certainly didn’t intend to start one.

by Anonymousreply 14July 15, 2022 4:17 PM

r4, everyone is on prep now.

sigh

by Anonymousreply 15July 15, 2022 4:25 PM

Off topic, but I’m on Tinder. Why does it match me with so many straight men? And cis-women? Are they gay chasing me??

That app is straight up weird and the only person I’ve matched with AND had a conversation with was a longtime friend!

by Anonymousreply 16July 15, 2022 4:39 PM

R15 - Don't be foolish or blithely misinformative. While the downward trajectory is great news, hardly "everyone" is on Prep. And hardly everyone practices safer sex.

MSM make up an estimated 2% of the US population, but accounted for 66% of new annual HIV infections in 2017

As of 2018, 1 in 6 MSM living with HIV was unaware of their status

Analysis of HIV diagnoses between 2010 and 2016 found that new infections among all MSM in the US remained stable, but they increased 65% among young Black American MSM aged 25 to 34 and 68% among Hispanic/Latino American MSM in that same age group15

I’m not r17, but I just want to qualify what they said. The high rates of HIV among young black gay & bi men does not reflect that they are having more unsafe sex. In fact, they use condoms more frequently than their white counterparts. They have lower PrEP use which is due to lack of access to medical providers, and they have higher rates in their sexual networks, so they are at a greater risk even if they are using condoms more. CDC published this data a long time ago and nothing has been done to help them. It’s a public health crisis. They have a 5% chance of getting infected every year. After 5 years, 1 in 4 young black gay men could be HIV positive. PrEP programs for young black gay men need to be 100 times more aggressive and they should be priority number one for HIV prevention, but sadly they’re not. PrEP use is higher among young white men who are more likely to be insured, have access to affirming care (doctors who won’t judge them) and also have lower rates among their sex partners.

Young black gay men’s lives matter and the HIV prevention community is and has been failing them spectacularly. And I say that as part of the HIV prevention public health workforce. *I* am failing them.

by Anonymousreply 18July 16, 2022 2:29 PM

It could mean he's into fats, trannies, or getting infected. ASK.

by Anonymousreply 19July 16, 2022 2:39 PM

R18 - Thank you for the clarification. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. My point is that we should not assume everyone is on Prep or that HIV does not continue to be a risk to our community.

No, I know you didn't. And I hope my comment didn't come off as scolding or judgmental. Whenever I see people post about the rates in Black gay and bi men, I feel obligated to provide the context because it's a health equity issue and to you and me, it makes sense. To some? They see those numbers and think "well, they did it to themselves!"

by Anonymousreply 21July 17, 2022 5:17 PM

R21 - No, you didn't either. It' can be hard to read tone online but we're good. :)

by Anonymousreply 22July 17, 2022 8:42 PM

Chubby Chasers don't shorten to "Chaser." They'll say they're into Chubs or Bears or whatever - it's not taboo so they can be pretty honest.

Whereas guys into trans-people is still very much a taboo so they use code - and Chaser is such code for a Cis-guy looking to hook up with only Trans.

Don't know why they note it if Trans-seeking is an option in the apps. Perhaps guys list it because "Chaser" is specifically more of a fetish thing and they want that known up front???

[quote]R6 Chaser is short for chubby chaser.

It’s a dangerous game. What if one falls on you?

Many deaths occur each year due to “chub crushing,” but are covered up by embarrassed friends and family.

by Anonymousreply 24July 18, 2022 1:14 AM

I've heard that gettin' the AIDS is a turn on for a lot of them boys.

by Anonymousreply 25July 18, 2022 8:26 AM

Unless there's some obvious context to indicate otherwise, it signifies chubby chaser.
