Don't mix Trittico with alcohol !!!

Never mix the antidepressant Trittico (Trazodone) with alcohol. I made that grave mistake yesterday. It's been over 24 hours and I CAN'T SOBER UP!!! I'm completely and utterly hammered and nothing helps. How did I get myself into this nightmare and how do I get out....

by Anonymousreply 64January 18, 2023 3:36 PM

I guess you didn't read the warning on the Rx bottle.

by Anonymousreply 1July 4, 2022 8:13 PM

There wasn't a warning

by Anonymousreply 2July 4, 2022 8:17 PM

Stay off the toilet!

by Anonymousreply 3July 4, 2022 8:29 PM

I have been using Trazodone for a decade and I usually have a cocktail and 1-2 glasses of wine/evening and have never had any problems.

by Anonymousreply 4July 4, 2022 8:33 PM

"NOW, a warning?"

by Anonymousreply 5July 4, 2022 8:34 PM

Oh, Judy . . .

by Anonymousreply 6July 4, 2022 8:34 PM

Also the metabolism of alcohol has been well studied. Doesn't jive with what you are describing. Maybe you were roofied.

"The body generally processes approximately one standard drink per hour. If you have 5 standard drinks, it will take 5 hours for your body to process the alcohol"

by Anonymousreply 7July 4, 2022 8:34 PM

LOL, R5!

by Anonymousreply 8July 4, 2022 8:35 PM

Trazodone is rather mild for a sleep aid but when it's prescribed in a higher dosage for its alternative use as an antidepressant then that's a bit different. Don't up and do what all you done did again Honey Child OP.

I'm thinking strong coffee to wake up and then just a ton of water. Set your alarm nice and loud and early for work tomorrow OP and take a Benadryl in order to just have any further residue if you will be neutralized if you will in your system. Then you wake up tomorrow somewhat better off and just in need of some coffee and perhaps some cranberry juice throughout the day. If you're one for breakfast stick with protein like some scrambled eggs just by themselves or a thick peanut butter sandwich.

I have a lot of drug addicts and alcoholics in my family and am not a doctor. My Ancestry DNA hits partially Wild Turkey and Quaaludes (which is what Trazodone reminds me of). So, I don't so much as drink personally.

Never do that again OP. That much I do know for sure. Just sip a soda pop next time.

by Anonymousreply 9July 4, 2022 8:37 PM

Thanks for the replies! I wasn't roofied because I drank at home. A quantity that will usually just get me very merry - 2 glasses of vodka - this time made me nearly pass out; made me call my mom and cry to her that I miss my cat, and scream at her that I wanted to die and be reunited with him; then I slept for 12 hours and woke up still completely drunk and disoriented. It's not a nice feeling; it's like a bad trip. You cannot convince me that the meds have nothing to do with this. I googled it and found out that Trazodone increases the effects of alcohol on the nervous system.

by Anonymousreply 10July 4, 2022 8:40 PM

Thanks so much for the advice, R9. I will try that. Hope that your family history is just that - history, and hasn't claimed you as well.

OF COURSE I won't do it again!!!

by Anonymousreply 11July 4, 2022 8:43 PM

[quote]take a Benadryl in order to just have any further residue if you will be neutralized if you will in your system.

Do not take benadryl if you are still hungover.

[quote] made me call my mom and cry to her that I miss my cat, and scream at her that I wanted to die and be reunited with him

Are you drinking “two glasses” of vodka on a regular basis?

I was a lot like that when my dog died of cancer and then my other dog died quite unexpectedly a month later (it’s been 12 years now and it is still too sad to think of).

For three months or so around that time I was drinking so frequently and heavily that I forgot what not-drunk felt like. Obviously, you can’t mix sedatives/depressants, but I think your thinking is clouded with what you’re going through, compounded and unhelped by alcohol and your prescription.

Are you the one who asked about eye drops a couple months ago? Either way, I feel so damn bad for you and I know you probably don’t want to hear it but it’s time to think about getting a cat again. It’ll be a win win. Your dearly departed cat wouldn’t want you doing this to yourself.

by Anonymousreply 13July 4, 2022 9:19 PM

Gurl, butch up.

I do this like errrrry day.

by Anonymousreply 14July 4, 2022 9:26 PM

R13, thank you for your very kind response. After my cat died in April, I started drinking from time to time to cope. Not every day, not even every week, but I get blind drunk, usually it's not two glasses but a whole bottle.

I know. I'm in a very unhealthy place. Yes, I'm the guy with the eye drops. By the way, another terrible side effect of the Trazodone/vodka combo is a weird suicidal feeling - not that I want to do it but that I will do it without wanting to. Again, I want to warn everyone - don't do what I did.

By the way, coffee made it worse. Now I'm jittery, panicky and paranoid too.

by Anonymousreply 15July 4, 2022 9:31 PM

Do a line of coke. It perks you right up.

by Anonymousreply 16July 4, 2022 9:42 PM

The liver metabolizes alcohol at a consistent rate. If you’re still intoxicated, you’re probably in liver failure.

by Anonymousreply 17July 4, 2022 9:48 PM

WHAT???

by Anonymousreply 18July 4, 2022 9:58 PM

^^^^ lol LOL QUIT WORRYING , YOU WILL BE FINE. QUIT THE DRINKING. Get a new kitty.

by Anonymousreply 19July 4, 2022 10:04 PM

Don’t fuck with op, he’s going through hell right now.

OP, you're not dying, but it sounds like you've reached the age where alcohol becomes less fun and more duplicitous (late 20s-30s).

Your pre-existing anxiety-depression will be greatly amplified the second you start to sober up and all your ruminations and regrets, real and imagined, will be set on repeat mode for the entire duration of your comedown and the twelve hours following, turned up to 11. This feeling will go away, but it will take some time.

by Anonymousreply 20July 4, 2022 10:10 PM

I had Trazodone prescribed to me but I dont want to take it for the same reason, I'm concerned it will interact with other stuff. Does it make you gain weight?

by Anonymousreply 21July 4, 2022 10:17 PM

Y'all are a bunch of lightweights. I get hammered every night, take a trazodone, a lorazepam and a few horks on a weed pen and wake up fresh as a daisy.

by Anonymousreply 22July 4, 2022 10:31 PM

I have a Trazadone prescription, but I never take it on worknights because it makes me incredibly groggy the next morning. And I take a very low dose. I can see how someone might feel that they're still drunk the next day.

by Anonymousreply 23July 4, 2022 10:35 PM

I think you don't gain weight from Trazodone. But it really can make you feel very groggy the next day, as R23 said.

by Anonymousreply 24July 4, 2022 10:53 PM

Ooh, god bless you, R20, I'm 41!

Thanks for the warning about the amplified depression. It will be less scary now that I know what's happening.

by Anonymousreply 25July 4, 2022 10:56 PM

Alcohol is well known cause of depression and can worsen depression.

1/3 of suicides involve alcohol.

Your problem is not Trazodone, which has been prescribed for over 30 years, but is alcohol. Please get help for it.

by Anonymousreply 26July 4, 2022 10:59 PM

But shweetheart, the alcohol jusht makesh the pillsh work that much fashter!

[quote]But shweetheart, the alcohol jusht makesh the pillsh work that much fashter!

And I'm the dame to prove it!

by Anonymousreply 28July 4, 2022 11:04 PM

OP: here’s your To Do list, from me, with love and concern…

1) Know that it’s ok to grieve, but it’s also important for you to move on from that grief and get on with your life. Start reflecting on the concept that moving on doesn’t mean you didn’t/don’t love and miss your cat. You do love and miss your cat. But it’s not healthy to make yourself ill in the process of grieving for something you’ve lost. This situation you’re in is a signal that it’s time to get back to a healthy mindset. Get going!

2) Read up on grief/the grieving process and maybe speak to a counselor or therapist. A few sessions will do wonders.

3) Find a replacement cat. And if it’s too soon for a new cat, volunteer at an animal rescue shelter. You have to fill that void with something besides vodka. Something healthy and productive. Your time and your love are valuable. Use them!

4) Learn from this mistake and don’t repeat it.

5) If all of this is too much to handle, just start with reading about grief and grieving. Baby step it.

by Anonymousreply 29July 4, 2022 11:04 PM

[quote]Are you the one who asked about eye drops a couple months ago? Either way, I feel so damn bad for you and I know you probably don’t want to hear it but it’s time to think about getting a cat again. It’ll be a win win. Your dearly departed cat wouldn’t want you doing this to yourself.

I agree. I remember that thread too and I'm worried about OP.

OP, you'll be giving a death-row inmate a reprieve! And Datalounge doesn't go for BOOZE and DOPE.

by Anonymousreply 30July 4, 2022 11:24 PM

I wouldn't use the term "replacement cat", R29.

by Anonymousreply 31July 4, 2022 11:26 PM

I love you, R29. And you too, R30. Thank you. Support from the lovely people on Datalounge is one of the very best things in my life. Kisses. ❤

by Anonymousreply 32July 4, 2022 11:41 PM

I don’t see any problem here. I have always imbibed an excellent Montepulciano d'Abruzzo while enjoying Il Trittico with no adverse affects.

[quote]Trazodone can cause problems with ejaculation. Some people say it gives them a higher sex drive, others say it makes it lower.

by Anonymousreply 34July 4, 2022 11:44 PM

Ugh, having Trazodone ptsd reading this thread.

25-30 years ago my doctor prescribed Trazodone for my intractable insomnia (this was several years before Lunesta, Mirtazipine, Seroquel, etc were available).

JFC the horrid night-into-morning I suffered through. That shit completely sealed up my nasal passages/sinuses...after the sedating effect kicked in. I woke up clawing at my own throat in terror because I. Could. Not. Breathe. At all. And I had a huge presentation to make at work the next morning, so I couldn't call in. I literally sat up the entire rest of that night, breathing from my mouth and chugging water for the dryness. By morning I looked (and still felt) a straight mess.

Soon as his office opened I called my doctor, and he was mortified and oh so apologetic. Said my experience was a known side effect in <0.5% of people taking Trazodone. He said "Stop taking it immediately, and never take it again."

But my 94-year old Dad takes 1/4 of a 150mg tab every night, and sleeps like a baby...breathing through his nose, no problem.

by Anonymousreply 35July 4, 2022 11:50 PM

Fuck me sideways, R35, I had the same experience 3 or 4 times already!!! So it's the Trazodone? I thought I had astma or something. Thanks very very much for the heads-up! I will tell my doc about that. Wow!

by Anonymousreply 36July 5, 2022 12:11 AM

Never mix sleepers/benzos and alcohol. Having said that, both the vodka and the tram should have worn off 24 hours later.

by Anonymousreply 37July 5, 2022 12:50 AM

I think OP is not drunk, but severely hungover (still under the influence/altered state).

by Anonymousreply 38July 5, 2022 1:09 AM

This is the Indian version of trazodone, you must order from the online pharmacy. I got it for my dogs for fireworks and thunder, we give the lowest dosage and it does indeed last until the next day, they're very groggy. I hate to do it but all three run around panicking and panting from the noise.

by Anonymousreply 39July 5, 2022 1:20 AM

R39 - you should get several plug ins of Feliway (cat Xanax) . Just plug them into several sockets and they'll calm your dogs without sedating them and possibly killing them if any had an undetected heart or breathing issue.

by Anonymousreply 43July 5, 2022 4:34 PM

[QUOTE] made me call my mom and cry to her that I miss my cat, and scream at her that I wanted to die and be reunited with him;

Surely OP is a young spazzy frau? Get another cat, OP, but NOT a rescue cat as they'll never be as loving and affectionate as a kitten you've raised since it was ten weeks. Ragdoll cats have an adorable, super friendly nature. Do NOT get some scuzzy rescue cat out of compassion as the contrast between its remoteness and your previous cat's friendliness will fuck you up.

by Anonymousreply 44July 5, 2022 4:43 PM

Check in, OP.

by Anonymousreply 45July 5, 2022 4:54 PM

Hi, I slept, shat up a storm and am better now. Still a bit dizzy. Gosh, never again.

by Anonymousreply 46July 5, 2022 5:56 PM

OP, get another cat ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 47July 5, 2022 7:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 48January 17, 2023 4:57 PM

Trazadone is awful. I can't recommend you stay away from it enough. I've never had a drug interaction worse than Trazadone. I almost stopped breathing because of it. It's a horrible HORRIBLE drug. Don't take it.

by Anonymousreply 51January 17, 2023 5:46 PM

What if I swap out "Suor Angelica" and "Il Tabarro" for "La Rondine," OP?

by Anonymousreply 52January 17, 2023 5:49 PM

The same exact thing happened to me r35! I had to sit up all night too, groggy and exhausted constantly drinking water just to get air in my throat! It was terrifying! Trazadone is bad. Really, REALLY bad.

by Anonymousreply 53January 17, 2023 5:51 PM

Yep, R53. And fighting mightily to remain awake against the terrible sedation and lethargy. I literally had the sense if I fell asleep again, I would die.

by Anonymousreply 54January 17, 2023 7:12 PM

Gentle suggestion, OP. Download one of the higher-rated EMDR apps, and use it while recalling clear memories of your cat (the happiest and the saddest. It will help you process your grief a little more.

And, yeah, anti-depressants and alcohol together can be a bitch. Add Zoloft to the list.

Oh how I love a good downer - I had a source for unlimited Valium for about 10 years but it dried up so now I'm giving them up. Never got addicted and I've taken them off and on since age 12 (50+ years). I don't even understand why you'd ever want more than 5mg a day.

But... the worst experience I had was Flexeril. I'd tried it before with no problems, but the last time, after taking it, for hours, I couldn't swallow food. Could NOT make my throat muscles do that. (I still managed to drink water) - so you can do ok with a drug, and then all of a sudden, have a different reaction. (and this was a pharmacy prescription so nobody had messed with it)

by Anonymousreply 57January 17, 2023 8:18 PM

[Quote] Never mix sleepers/benzos and alcohol.

This goes for antidepressants and alcohol also. Alcohol can make depression worse, and also increase the severity of antidepressant side effects. It's generally recommended that people on antidepressants abstain from alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 58January 17, 2023 9:07 PM

OP consider yourself lucky that you ONLY phoned your mother.

by Anonymousreply 59January 18, 2023 9:30 AM

Hmm. Your comments are very coherent and typo free for someone "completely and utterly hammered...", OP.

by Anonymousreply 60January 18, 2023 9:57 AM

I drink like a sailor. Trazadone doesn't do shit for me to fall asleep. Currently prescribed 200 mg.

I could eat those like Tic Tac's.

by Anonymousreply 61January 18, 2023 1:49 PM

Sounds like a party to me!

by Anonymousreply 62January 18, 2023 1:54 PM

"Trazodone can cause problems with ejaculation. Some people say it gives them a higher sex drive, others say it makes it lower."

It seems like every fucking drug I read about on Drugs.com or WebMD or Mayo Clinic, etc. has a similar pattern.

This drug can give you diarrhea. This drug can give you constipation.

This drug can cause weight loss. This drug can cause weight gain.

by Anonymousreply 63January 18, 2023 2:36 PM

I agree that most side effects are all over the place. But it’s mostly weight gain, to be honest. Very few drugs actually cause weight loss. And those drugs are either highly regulated or running out of supply.
